The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters were joined in the suit as co- defendants.

The kingmakers, in the suit filed on their behalf by their Lead Counsel, Mr Kazeem Sobaloju, after the withdrawal and subsequent striking out of a similar case by the court, had approached the court on Thursday with a fresh suit.

Sobaloju reminded the court that he had two pending applications filed on Nov. 1 on the subject matter before the court.

He said that the counter affidavit to the notice of preliminary objection and the interim injunction were served on him barely 45 minutes ago.

Sobaloju prayed the court for maintenance of the status quo in spite of the notice of the preliminary objection filed by the defence counsel.

He equally said that he had filed a counter affidavit to the notice of the preliminary objection.

However, the defence counsel, Mr L.A. Abiola, who doubles as the Director, Department of Civil Litigation and Advisory Council in the state Ministry of Justice, assured the court of his preparedness to move the application for his notice of preminary objection.

He said that they were not, in any way, running away from the legal battle.

According to reports all the claimants were present in court.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Ladiran Akintola, said following the agreement between both counsel, the matter was adjourned till Dec. 14 for hearing of the preliminary objection filed by the defence counsel.

Obaship Tussle: Youths stormed Aree of Iree’s palace, set bonfire in Osun

Some youths in Osun state stormed the palace of the Aree of Iree and set bonfires on the road leading to the palace as a form of protest against the choice of the newly installed king.

The action of the rampaging youths caused Chaos in Iree town as residents scampered for safety while traders and shop owners hurriedly shut their businesses and closed for the day.

The cause of the action of the youth was yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing in this report, but a source said trouble started when some security operatives reportedly arrested the head of kingmakers in the town, Aogun of Iree, Chief Soliu Atoyebi.

Meanwhile, in an interview with the journalists, the Odoka of Iree, Chief Kayode Abiola, explained that the some security operatives arrested Chief Atoyebi when they discovered that kingmakers were about to make some pronouncements on Friday.

Ikeja Stool: Royal families, kingmakers reject new king-designate

Controversy surrounds the nomination of Temitope Ibikunle as the king-designate for the vacant stool of Olu of Ikeja.

Royal families in Ikeja, the capital of Lagos State, have kicked against the nomination of the 33-year-old as the king-designate for the vacant stool of Olu of Ikeja.

Ibikunle, who is of Oshoja Ruling House, was a youth representative on the now-defunct Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Restitution for Victims of SARS Related Abuses and Other Matters.

The stool of Olu of Ikeja had been vacant for nine years following the demise of Oba Rauf Matemi, Amore 1, who joined his ancestors in October 2014.

Speaking at a news briefing on Friday in Ikeja, leaders of some of the royal families and kingmakers in the kingdom, said that Prince Tajudeen Muritala, who had earlier been unveiled as the king-elect, remained the sole candidate for the throne.

The Oluwo of Ikeja, Chief Adeniyi Illo, and Prince Jamiu Folami, who spoke on behalf of others, accused politicians of blocking the progress of the area by sabotaging their efforts at installing the king-elect.

They said that the issues should not have degenerated to what it is at present, with the different royal families antagonising one another if politicians had not infiltrated the families.

Folami, who denied the claim that Muritala was not a member of any of the royal families, provided an oral historical record that linked him to Iyade and Oshoja families.

The kingmakers called on the state government to ensure that the will of the indigenes of Ikeja Kingdom prevailed, by giving approval to the installation of Prince Muritala as the new king.

Specifically, the Oluwo of Ikeja land raised the alarm that his life was in danger owing to his stance on the issue.
