Yahaya Bello is a pathfinder, transformed Education in Kogi state -Kogi Collectives

A leading socio cultural organization in Kogi state; Kogi Collectives (KC) has praised the immediate past Governor of the state Alhaji Yahaya Bello for giving Education sector a new lease of life in the state during his tenure.

The group particularly noted that the establishment of two new universities in addition to the Prince Abubakar Audu University in Ayingba gave the three Senatorial districts a sense of belonging as prospective university students now access admission with ease.

The group led by Chief Philip Olusesan Orebiyi and Mr. Segun Arogboni spoke after their meeting in Lokoja , the state capital at the weekend.

The two new universities are the Confluence university of science and Technology, Osara for Kogi central, Kogi state university, Kabba for Kogi West as well as the Prince Abubakar Audu university, Anyigba for Kogi East.

They added that to the credit of Yahaya Bello , he equipped and facilitated the accreditation of the College of Medicine at Prince Audu University, Anyigba.

The new universities were established by Bello under four years just as he gave face lifts and improved Kogi state polytechnic, Lokoja, College of Education Ankpa as well as College of Education (Technical), Mopa.

According to them “ On September 21, 2023, Yahaya Bello took a visionary and audacious step by declaring free education from primary to secondary school levels in public schools in the state”.

Besides, they stated that the Yahaya Bello administration undertook to pay external examination fees for west Africa Examination Council (WAEC), National Examination Council (NECO) and the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Examination for prospective tertiary institutions students in the state.

They stated: “the administration of Yahaya Bello has transformed the Education landscape from one marked by neglect and decay to the one filled with hope, improved access, equity, infrastructure development and enhanced service delivery.

“One of Bello’s groundbreaking achievements in the Education sector was the allocation of 30 percent of the state budget to Education in each fiscal year since 2021. This allocation exceeded the UNESCO’s recommendation benchmark of 26 percent, thus underscoring his unparalleled commitment to Education in the state”.

Bello, they opined has reversed the trend of out of school children in the state which stood at 554,943 between 2014 and 2015 to 86,803, thus ranking the state with the lowest number of out-of-school children in Nigeria as at 2019.

Bello had anticipated that every school-aged child will be in the classroom this year 2024 and beyond.

Bello’s investment in primary Education includes but not limited to renovation of 833 classroom blocks, construction of 1,800 classrooms across the state and the establishment of GYB Model Science Schools in the state.

For effective implementation of his renewed Education policy, Bello made it a cardinal project to train and retrain teachers across all schools in the state.

They therefore urged Governor Usman Ododo to improve and sustain Bello’s transformation legacy on Education in the state.

Kogi extends tenure of LG caretaker chairmen

Kogi House of Assembly on Friday approved the  extension of the tenure of the 21 Local Government Areas Transition Committee Chairmen in the state by six months.

This followed a request by Gov Usman Ododo, seeking approval of the Assembly to extend the tenure of the chairmen, which was expected to end on July 8.

Ododo in a letter to assembly, said that the state could not conduct local government election at this time due to paucity of funds, the high wage bill among other pressing needs.

He expressed the hope that before the expiration of the extended tenure in Jan. 8, 2025, the state government would have successfully conducted the LG polls.

The speaker, Mr  Umar Yusuf, who read the governor’s letter, sought the contributions from members of the house, who unanimously granted the governor’s request.

Yusuf commended his colleagues for seeing reasons with the governor, whom he said meant well for the growth and development of the state.

The speaker, thereafter, announced the resolution of the house at plenary for the approval of six months tenure extension for the 21 LGAs transition committee chairmen.

“By this resolution today, July 5, 2024,  the state house of assembly has extended the tenure of transition committee chairmen by another six months,” he declared.

The speaker, however, charged the 21 transition committee chairmen to be good ambassadors of their respective local government areas by initiating people oriented policies and programmes.

  • FUL gets NUC’s accreditation for 42 programmes – VC

FUL gets NUC’s accreditation for 42 programmes – VC

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted accreditation to 42 academic programmes run by the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) in Kogi State.

FUL Vice Chancellor, Prof Olayemi Akinwumi, made this known while speaking in Lokoja on Friday.

Akinwumi said that the good news was conveyed to the university via a letter signed by the acting Director of Accreditation, Engr. Abraham Chundusu on behalf of the Acting NUC Executive Secretary, Mr Chris Maiyaki.

The VC noted that accreditation was sequel to the October/November 2023 accreditation exercise which has now been released to the University.

He thanked the NUC, a supervisory agency of the Federal Government, saddled with the statutory mandate of accrediting academic programmes in all Nigerian Universities, for the accreditation of the 42 programmes.

“We are glad that all the 42 programmes assessed by NUC (most for the first time) in the last year’s exercise have been accredited.

“This is because upon my assumption of office in 2021, I inherited most of these new programmes established by my predecessor which were not resource verified by NUC or recognized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

“I then took it upon myself to ensure that these programmes undergo resource verification by the supervisory bodies as the first step and prerequisite before presenting them also for subsequent accreditation as government is a continuum.

“This was in spite of the daunting challenges of sourcing for the huge financial resources needed to ensure a smooth and successful resource verification of such a large number of new programmes inherited.

“Indeed, this is a milestone received with great joy by members of the University community, particularly the 400L students whose hope and chances of graduating this year and mobilized for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme were uncertain before now, ” he said.

He said that the university had earlier secured the re-accreditation of the existing programmes in the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences, while the administration, in line with its five-year vision plan, went ahead to also establish new programmes including Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory, Engineering, Law, Agriculture, Educational Management and Planning, among others.

Akinwumi  expressed profound appreciation to the NUC, members of Senate, Staff and Students of the University for their cooperation and tireless efforts that led to thw remarkable achievement.

He gave the list of the newly accredited programmes which cut across different Departments and Faculties to include: administration, accounting, banking and finance, business administration and public administration.

Others are arts, arabic, archaeology, christian religious studies, islamic religious studies, linguistics, music, philosophy, theatre arts, communication and media studies.

Others are mass communication, computing, computer science, business education, education Biology, . Education Chemistry, Education Computer,  Education Economics, Education English Language, Education Geography and  Education History.

Ododo signs 7 bills into law

Gov. Usman Ododo on Thursday signed seven bills into law with a charge to the residents to embrace the new laws and be law abiding to move Kogi forward.

The seven bills signed into law include: A Law to repeal and Re-enact the Kogi Local Government Service Commission Law 2014 and for other matters connected therewith, 2024.

A Law to repeal and Re-enact the Kogi State Scholarship Board Edict, 1998 and other matters connected therewith, 2024.

A Law to establish the Kogi Electricity Market and the Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission to Regulate Electricity Generation, Transmission, System Operation Distribution, Supply and Promote Access to Electricity in the State through increased Private Sector Investments or Public Private Partnership in Grid, Multi-Grid and other Off-grid Electricity Option using Renewable and Non-renewable Fuel Sources in the State and other Purposes Connected Therewith, 2024.

A Law to Establish the Kogi State Anti Corruption Agency and other matters connected therewith, 2024 and Kogi State Commodity Exchange, Export Promotion and Market Development Agency Law, 2024.

The Kogi State Information Technology Development Agency Law, 2024 and the Kogi State Urban Planning Law, 2024.

Ododo, who signed the bills in his office at the Government House, Lokoja, described the laws as people’s laws.

He explained that his assent to the bills were in line with his promise to lead with transparency, accountability and fear of God.

“I believe that the new set of laws will serve as catalyst for the rapid social and economic development of Kogi State as they deal directly with critical aspects of the lives of the people.

“Let it be known that under my administration, nobody is above the law.

“This is in line with my promise to lead with the fear of God and to ensure that our resources work for the people of the state,” Ododo assured.

  • APC reacts over Ododo’s tribunal victory

APC reacts over Ododo’s tribunal victory

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has congratulated Gov. Ahmed Ododo of Kogi on his victory at the Election Petition Tribunal.

Mr Felix Morka, the party’s National Publicity Secretary said this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

He thanked the party’s teeming members, supporters and the good people of Kogi for their steadfast support during the legal process in defence of Ododo’s electoral victory.

Morka commended the judiciary for its professionalism and commitment toward strengthening the country’s democracy.

He said Ododo’s victory at the Election Petition Tribunal was a solid affirmation of the popular mandate handed to him and the APC by Kogi electorate.

He assured that Ododo would devote himself to consolidating on good governance of the confluence state and justify the confidence reposed on him by the electorate.

“This is a spectacular victory for all Kogi people irrespective of difference of any kind, we urge the opposition to accept the verdict of the tribunal and support Ododo.

“As he continues to design and implement his many development policies and projects for the shared progress of the state,” Morka said.

Alhaji Murtala Ajaka, the Socal Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate had challenged Ododo’s victory at the tribunal aledging irregularities at the election.

He described his loss at the tribunal as a temporary setback, saying he would pursue the case to the highest court.

In the judgement, the three-member tribunal, led by Justice Ado Birnin-Kudu, held that the election of Ododo was conducted in substantial compliance with the Electoral Act.

Kogi: Tribunal dismisses SDP, PRP, AA’s petitions, affirms Ododo as duly elected governor

The Kogi  Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja on Monday dismissed three separate petitions filed by the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and Action Alliance (AA) against Gov. Usman Ododo’s election victory.

The three-member panel of justices, headed by Justice Ado Birnin-Kudu, in separate judgments, affirmed Gov. Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the valid winner of the Nov. 11, 2023 Kogi governorship election.

The panel, in a unanimous decision, held that the poll was conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in substantial compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.

The SDP and its governorship candidate, Murtala Ajaka; the PRP and its candidate, Abdullahi Bayawo, and their counterpart in AA, Olayinka Braimoh, had filed the petitions to challenge the Election victory of APC and Ododo.

Some of the allegations against INEC’s declaration of Ododo as winter of the November election were non-compliance with provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022; irregularities, certificate forgery, among others.

Delivering judgement in SDP and Ajaka”s petition, the tribunal held that the petitioners failed to prove the allegations of over-voting and non-compliance with the Electoral Act, 2022 in the petition.

It held that all the witness evidence filed before it were incompetent and full of inconsistencies.

It also agreed with the submissions of the respondents that the allegations of forgery raised in the petition were pre-election matter, which ought to have been raised 14 days after the documents were submitted to INEC.

Birnin-Kudu said : “I agree with the respondents that most of the exhibits tendered from the Bar without the makers constitute documentary hearsay.

“This is because any witness, who must testify before the tribunal must have his witness statement on oath, and be allowed to bring and demonstrate evidence to be made per incuriam,” he said.

The tribunal held that the first prosecution witness (PW1), who was an INEC Staff, was not the maker of the documents tendered, hence, the document were inadmissible.

“Unfortunately, PW1 is not a competent witness. All documents tendered through him are hereby expunged.

“PW4, and PW24 did not demonstrate the documents tendered. They could even not, if they wanted to, because they were not the makers of the documents

“Again, considering the evidence of the expert witness (PW25), exhibits 1 to 55 and (a lot more) are hereby rejected and expunged from the record.

“I agree with respondents that exhibits 1 -207 are inadmissible hearsay as they were tendered from the Bar without linking them with the case or calling the makers, so they attract no probative value.”

The tribunal held that the witnesses were petitioners’ witnesses and not the tribunal’s witnesses.

On whether the petition was filed out of time (statute barred), the tribunal chairman held that “it was validly presented and filed within time.”

On Ododo’s qualification to contest the election, he rejected the qualification documents of the expert witness on the ground that they were not pleaded.

It said that the petitioners failed to prove allegation of forgery as they failed to show that Ododo submitted the documents to INEC.

The panel equally restated that the allegation of forgery against Ododo was a preelection matter.

“Once the petitioners tie their allegation of forgery to the content or documents attached to INEC Form EC9 submitted to INEC, the matter is clearly a pre-election one which the tribunal has no jurisdiction to entertain.

“Tribunal agrees that the alleged falsified document was not a certificate as an affidavit of loss is not a document capable of disqualifying the 2nd respondent (Ododo).

“Also the evidence to establish non-compliance must be of those who witnessed the election or those who made the documents,’ it said.

The tribunal held that out of the scores of witnesses listed in their petition, the petitioners only called 25 witnesses, describing it as insufficient to establish their case against the respondents.

It said in the instant case, the petitioners only called 3.4 per cent of their witnesses.

It said the petitioners abandoned 96.6 per cent of the witnesses they set out to called at the tribunal and the depositions of the witnesses adopted were full of inconsistencies and contradictions.

Besides, the panel held that out of the 25 witnesses called, none of them was either a polling agent or presiding officer who could have been regarded as makers of the documentary evidence tendered.

“The entire expert evidence/report of the PW25 is documentary hearsay.

“No probative value will be placed on same. Section 137 of the Electoral Act is not a magic wand; the petitioners are to demonstrate their documents and tie them to their case

“Again, the witness who demonstrated the BVAS stated that he could not tell if those machines were the ones deployed in Kogi simply because the witness was not in Kogi on the day of the election but was in Imo.

“My conclusions is that the petitioners have failed to establish the ground of non-compliance with Electoral Act, 2022.

“Consequently, this petition has failed in its entirety, ” the tribunal declared.

The panel, therefore, held that the petition was bereft of substance and was accordingly dismissed.

Delivering judgement in PRP and its governorship candidate’s petition, the tribunal dismissed the petition on the grounds that the petitioners failed to prove the allegations of non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022 during the poll.

The tribunal, in a unanimous judgement, held that the petitioners’ evidence that Forms EC8B and EC8D (the ward result sheets and the state result sheets) tendered were not prepared for the Nov. 11, 2023 poll, were bereft of substance.

The panel said that the testimonies of the petitioners’ witnesses were hearsay and that failure to call polling agents from the alleged affected polling units to give their evidence was fatal to the case of the petitioners.

Besides, it held that some of the evidence of the witnesses had no probative value.

“The petition lacks merit and it is accordingly dismissed,” Justice Birnin–Kudu-led tribunal declared.

Equally, the tribunal dismissed the petition filed by AA and its candidate.

The panel held that the oetitioners could not adduce any evidence to establish the allegations of non-compliance with the law.

The tribunal had, on Feb. 20, struck out the petition filed by the Action Peoples Party (APP) against the election victory of Ododo in the Nov. 11 governorship poll in the state.

The panel struck out the petition following its withdrawal by counsel for APP, Daniel Edeachi.

The application, seeking the withdrawal of the petition was not opposed by lawyer to Gov. Ododo, Ibrahim Muhammed, SAN; counsel to APC, DC Denwigwe, SAN, and that of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Kanu Agabi, SAN.

The APP had, in the petition number: EPR/KG/GOV/02/2023 filed on Dec. 1, 2023, before the tribunal, challenged the declaration of Ododo as the validly elected governor of Kogi in the Nov. 11, 2023 governorship poll conducted by INEC.

The party had sued Ododo, APC and INEC as 1st to 3rd respondents respectively.

However, in its motion on notice dated and filed on Feb. 15, the party sought two orders, including an order granting leave to the petitioner/applicant to withdraw the Petition No: EPT/KG/GOV/01/2023 and an order striking out or dismissing the petition, having been withdrawn by the petitioner.

Giving eight-ground of argument, APP said though it filed the petition to challenge Ododo’s victory, the party said upon the re-evaluation of the grounds and facts of the petition, it “is not reasonably convinced about the sustainability of the grounds of the petition as presently constituted before this honourable tribunal.

According to the party, the withdrawal of the petition is based on the perceived unsustainability of the grounds of the petition and to avoid overburdening this honourable tribunal with numerous petitions.

    Steel Minister congratulates Ododo

The Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Audu, has congratulated Gov. Usman Ododo on his victory at the election tribunal.

Audu congratulated the governor in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Mrs Lizzy Okoji on Monday in Abuja.

The Governorship Election petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja on Monday, dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), challenging the election victory of Gov. Usman Ododo in the Nov.11,2023 Kogi governorship poll.

The Minister described the tribunal’s verdict as a testament to the people’s choice.

Audu called on the opposition to accept the verdict as an act of God and to work together with the governor for the peace, progress, and development of the state.

“I want to congratulate the Gov. Ododo on this well-deserved victory at the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal.

“This has further affirmed the free, fair, and credible polls that took place in the November 11 governorship election in Kogi.

“As Director-General of the All Progressive Congress Gubernatorial Campaign Council, I have always been confident in the capacity of  Ododo to deliver the dividends of democracy in the  state.

“I want to use this opportunity to urge the opposition party, the Social Democratic Party ,to come together and work with the governor for the development of our dear state.

“Let everyone sheath their swords irrespective of their political, ethnic and religious differences, and give the governor all the support he needs to attain great success,” he said.

He also urged the governor to extend a hand of fellowship to the opposition and work assiduously to deliver on his campaign promises to the people of Kogi.

He also commended the governor on his achievements in his first 100 days in office, urging him to continue his commitment to providing  enduring legacies in the state.

  • Ajaka vs Ojoko: Kogi tribunal picks May 27 to deliver judgment

Ajaka vs Ojoko: Kogi tribunal picks May 27 to deliver judgment

The Kogi Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja has picked May 27 to deliver judgment in the petition filed by Murtala Ajaka the Social Democratic Party (SDP) against the election victory of Governor Usman Ododo.

Justice Ado Birnin-Kudu led three man panel announced the date on Thursday in Abuja in a message communicated to counsel to the parties through its secretary, David Mike, and made available to newsmen.

Recall that the Kogi state gubernatorial election was held on the 11th of November, 2023 and the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC)  Ododo was declared winner by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) beating his closest rival, Ajaka of the SDP with a wide margin.

Ajaka, dissatisfied with the outcome of the election, had filed a petition before the tribunal, challenging Ododo’s victory.

The case, which commenced in December 2023, came to its highest point on May 13 when SDP, Ajaka, APC, Ododo and INEC adopted their final written addresses, after which the tribunal reserved judgement in the petition.

The APC and Ododo had prayed the tribunal to dismiss Ajaka and SDP’s petition in its totality, claiming that it lacks merit.

INEC, Ododo and the APC had, through their lawyers; Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN; Joseph Daudu, SAN and Emmanuel Ukala, SAN, respectively, had told the tribunal so while adopting their final written addresses and presenting their arguments against the petition.

Tribunal set date to deliver judgement on Kogi governorship election

The Kogi Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja has fixed May 27 to deliver judgment in the petition filed by Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its governorship candidate, Murtala Ajaka, against the election victory of Gov. Usman Ododo.

The three-member panel of justices, headed by Justice Ado Birnin-Kudu, announced the date on Thursday in Abuja in a message communicated to counsel to the parties through its secretary, David Mike, and made available to newsmen.

Kogi had, on Nov. 11, 2023 held its off-cycle election in which Ododo of the All Progressive Congress (APC) emerged winner beating his closest rival, Ajaka of the SDP with a wide margin.

Ajaka, dissatisfied with the outcome of the election, had filed a petition before the tribunal, challenging Ododo’s victory.

The case, which commenced in December 2023, came to its highest point on May 13 when SDP, Ajaka, APC, Ododo and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) adopted their final written addresses, after which the tribunal reserved judgement in the petition.

INEC, Ododo and his party, APC, had prayed the tribunal to dismiss Ajaka and SDP’s petition in its entirety for being incompetent and lacking in merit.

However, Ajaka’s lawyer, Pius Akubo, SAN, had urged the tribunal to discountenance the respondents’ submissions and uphold their petition.

In his argument, INEC’s lawyer, Chief Agabi, had told the panel that the petition lacked merit and incompetent, urging the court to strike it out or dismiss it.

“It is our humble submission that your work in the determination of this petition is simplified in recent judgments by Court of Appeal and Supreme Court,” he said.

He argued that Appeal Court had decided that if the grounds of a petition are inconsistent with one another and are not consistent with the reliefs, it should be struck out.

He also argued that the evidence of the petitioners were grossly insufficient, citing a Supreme Court decision in a case by Tonye Cole against INEC.

The senior lawyer, who described the case as frivolous, prayed the tribunal to strike out or dismiss the petition for being incompetent.

Ododo, through his Counsel, Daudu, also urged the tribunal to dismiss the petition in its entirety.

Adumbrating, he had argued that the petition was statute barred (filed out of time).

He also urged the tribunal to dismiss the allegations of forgery against his client, saying it bordered on pre-election matter, which the apex court had decided in Gbagi’s case against INEC.

Daudu also argued that Section 137 of the Electoral Act cited by the petitioners on allegations of over-voting did not apply in the instant petition.

Also backing Daudu’s submission, Ukala, who represented APC, urged the court to dismiss the petition for lacking in merit.

The petitioners’ lawyer, Akubo, disagreed with Daudu that their petition was filed out of time.

He argued that the respondents themselves confirmed that the petition was filed on Dec. 2, 2023, even by their own witness.

“I urge your lordship to hold that we filed this petition within time under our law,” he said.

We will bring perpetrators of Ogbe killing to justice – Kogi Govt

Gov. Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State has vowed to deploy available resources to bring the perpetrators of Ogbe killing to book and guarantee security in the area.

Two persons were allegedly  killed on Friday by bandits at Ogbe Community in Yagba West Local Government Area of the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, visited the community on Sunday on behalf of the governor.

He commiserated with the people over the dastardly act and assured them that government would do everything possible to bring the perpetrators to book and restore security in the area.

The governor assured the people that the state had all the forces required to tame criminality and defeat terror across the state.

Ododo urged the community to demonstrate confidence in the commitment of his administration to stamp out insecurity in the area and the state at large.

He, however, admonished the community not to take the law into its hands by launching repraisal attacks and restated government’s determination to go after the perpetrators.

“President Bola Tinubu through the Armed Forces and security agencies is giving Kogi State all the necessary support to launch a holistic offensive on the agents of criminality.

“I assure you, Kogi would remain one of the safest states in the country,” he said.

Responding on behalf of the community, the former Councilor of Ogbe Ward, Adeleke John, thanked the governor for promptly coming to identify with the community in its darkest hour.

“It shows we have a governor who is responsive and responsible.

“We will not embark on any reprisal attack because we are not hopeless.

“We have confidence in the government to protect us,” John said.

The commissioner was accompanied on the visit by the Transition Committee Chairman of Yagba West Local Government Area, Tosin Olokun; and a former member of the Kogi House of Assembly, Philip Orebiyi.

  • We will win war against criminality – Ododo

We will win war against criminality – Ododo

Gov. Usman Ododo of Kogi, says the state is committed to win the war against criminals, and enemies of peace and progress.

Th governor stated this in a statement by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, on Saturday in Lokoja.

Ododo was quoted as saying that: “My administration is rising to the challenge of defeating the torrent of criminality waged against our dear state in the last one month.

“We believe that the torrent of attacks on insurgents, bandits and kidnappers in the North-East has dislodged them and many of them are now trying to find their feet in the North-Central.

“All the same, Kogi government is deploying an iron-cast approach to safeguarding the state from the fangs of these criminals “.

He said the recent rescue of 21 out of the 24 kidnapped students of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), was a clear testament that Kogi would be ruthless against criminals in the state.

The government, he said, on Saturday received heart-warming reports of the rescue of two kidnapped women from Yagba West and Yagba East Local Government Areas of the state.

Ododo said the government had also secured the release of scores of kidnapped victims who were not even residents of the state but kidnapped in their various states and taken to the forests.

He added that: “We are still searching frantically for the three remaining CUSTECH students yet to be rescued.

“This is because every citizen’s life is important to the government.

“Consequently, I have approved the immediate employment of thousands of local hunters across the 21 local government areas of the state.

“Their immediate task is  going after the criminals and taking the fight to their camps and hideouts, which is already yielding positive results.

“Also, the Joint Forces of the army, police, DSS, NSCDC, Metropolitan Response Squad and hunters group are currently carrying our simultaneous operations in Lokoja as well as across the three senatorial districts, including our border communities.”

Ododo disclosed that he had silently declared war on criminals in the state, deployed resources and forces to ensure that enemies of the people are defeated.

The governor also expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support and encouragement to make Kogi a crime free state.

Accordong to him, his administration is working hard to protect everyone, adding that the criminals were learning in a hard way that Kogi would not be a ground for their criminal trade.

“The criminals are rattled and they won’t escape justice as this government has put everything into winning this war against criminality.

“Therefore, we urge residents to also play their part by volunteering intelligence to security agencies for the effective security of our dear state”.

  • Army reassure of security for Kogi residents

Army reassure of security for Kogi residents

The Nigerian Army has reassured of improved security for Kogi residents, especially with the rising cases of kidnapping in the State.

Maj.-Gen. Obinna Onubogu, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, said this when he addressed newsmen in his maiden operational visit to the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Chari-Maigumeri Barracks, Lokoja.

Onubogu said that nothing would be spared to ensure peace in all areas of his responsibility including Kogi.

“We have been able to significantly reduce most issues of kidnappings and communal clashes within Kogi.

“Just recently, we had two incidents of kidnapped students at Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) and the communal clashes at Omola in Kogi East.

“In those attacks, the troops of NA in collaboration with other security agencies were able to curb the incidence, and reassured the citizens of their safety.
