Kwam 1 bags top appointment after NCAA petition to IGP

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced the appointment of Fuji music star, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1, as an ambassador for airport security protocol.

Speaking in a statement on Wednesday, Keyamo, said the decision followed consultations with stakeholders in the aviation sector and a review of recent incidents involving unruly passengers, including the cases of Kwam 1 and Comfort Emmanson.

Though regrettable, we think valuable lessons have been learnt by all sides to these incidents and airport security protocol, especially, have been well highlighted for the travelling public.

“If nothing at all, the episodes have undoubtedly helped to raise public awareness about appropriate conduct within the aviation space,” Keyamo said.

TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) reports that the appointment is coming hours after the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) over his alleged misconduct aboard a ValueJet flight.

Another headache for KWAM 1 as NCAA tags act ‘terrorist’ extends ban from 6months to indefinite

Fuji King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as KWAM 1, has been banned indefinitely after the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) upgraded his six-month flight ban to a full no-fly order pending outcome of probe.

This development was revealed on Tuesday night by NCAA spokesman Michael Achimugu on Channels Television, who accused the singer of conduct tantamount to “a terrorist act” during his airport bust-up.

The August 5, 2025, incident at Abuja Airport saw KWAM 1 attempt to board a ValueJet flight with a flask containing an unidentified liquid. When security insisted on inspecting it, he allegedly splashed the contents on an officer before blocking the aircraft from taxiing.

A furious Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo waded in, branding it a “hostage situation” and ordering an immediate no-fly listing—domestically and internationally—warning airlines that defy the ban could lose their licenses.

The NCAA swiftly imposed a six-month suspension, followed by letters to the Attorney-General and Inspector-General of Police urging criminal prosecution for obstructing aviation operations.

Now, Achimugu says that punishment has been stretched to an indefinite ban while investigators dig in, stressing that the matter is far from over.

KWAM 1 has since apologised, claiming the flask contained only water for medical reasons. But regulators remain unmoved, as legal trouble and possible court action loom over the Fuji legend.

‘Do you know who I am’- Supsended ValueJet pilot recounts airport clash with KWAM1

Suspended ValueJet Airline pilot, Capt. Oluranti Ogoyi, has broken her silence on the clash with Fuji maestro, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Tuesday August 5.

TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) recalls that Ogoyi, alongside her co-pilot, Flight Officer Ivan Oloba, was suspended by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for violating safety rules. The NCAA has also barred the Fuji icon from flying within Nigeria for six months.

Capt. Ogoyi in a written statement disclosed that the boarding for the scheduled flight VK201 commenced at 8:10 am, and the musician approached the aircraft around 8:15 am, carrying a gold flask of unknown content.

“Ground staff requested, as per standard procedure, to verify the contents of the flask, but he refused. He was seen drinking from it, and the staff suspected it contained alcohol, which is prohibited onboard aircraft in Nigeria.”she stated

According to the report, Ogoyi said the musician dismissed the request, asking “Do you know who I am? You have no right to tell me to open my flask.”

“Ogoyi said security personnel at the foot of the aircraft reiterated the instruction, but K1 became confrontational, disrupting the boarding process.

“To manage the situation, I left the cockpit to engage him amicably. Without warning, he poured the contents of the flask on me, security personnel, and some nearby passengers,” she recounted

She said airport security intervened, and the Head of Security advised that the musician should not be allowed to travel on the flight. Ogoyi said she agreed, prioritising the safety of passengers and crew.

“After shutting the aircraft doors, I saw Mr. Ayinde still near the aircraft, obstructing movement. I made a public announcement to explain the delay while security worked to move him away. Once he was out of sight, I commenced taxiing and departed for Lagos at about 8:50 am,” she stated

BREAKING: I suffer from chronic dehydration – Kwam 1 publicly apologises over airport misconduct

Renowned Fuji musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1 or K1 De Ultimate has tendered an unreserved apology over the ugly incident at the airport on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

In a statement signed by the singer, he tendered apologies to all concerned but firmly insists that he didn’t have alcohol in his flask but water.

He also tendered an apology to the Presidency, Aviation ministry, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) as well as Value Jet.

    The statement in full below,

“The incident that occurred at the local wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on August 5, 2025, involving my humble self and ValueJet Airline, was to say the least, unfortunate.

“Unknown to many, I suffer from chronic dehydration, and my doctor strongly advised that I remain constantly hydrated. This is why I always carry a water flask with me. And contrary to the negative narrative being circulated in some quarters, the flask I carried on that particular day contained only water not alcohol, as wrongly alleged.

“For the record, I passed through two security screenings with the flask empty. The flask was only filled with water at the lounge area, just before heading to the tarmac. This fact can be verified by the CCTV footage at the airport lounge. More so, I hadn’t even boarded the plane, let alone being deboarded.

“However, I acknowledge and deeply regret the concerns that arose from the incident. It was never my intention to cause any disruption or violate aviation protocols in any way.

“My unwavering patriotism and unshaken loyalty to the Federal Republic of Nigeria have never been in doubt.

“To the Presidency, Ministry of Aviation, FAAN, NCAA, ValueJet, fellow Nigerians, and my teeming fans across the world who have shown great concern since the incident happened, I tender my unreserved and heartfelt apology.”

Kwam 1: ‘They would’ve blamed Peter Obi if the Pilot was Igbo’ – Fayose

Social commentator, Isaac Fayose, has weighed in on the clash between Fuji singer, KWAM 1 and a ValueJet pilot, Captain Oluranti Ogoyi during a flight boarding process on Tuesday.

Fayose while reacting to the incident suggested that if the pilot involved were from the Igbo ethnic group, many would have assumed the action was politically motivated, linking it to Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) in 2023 general elections.

The controversy surrounds an incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, where K1 De Ultimate allegedly attempted to board a ValueJet flight with a flask containing alcohol, sparking a safety breach.

The situation escalated, with the plane taxying and nearly hitting K1 De Ultimate. Two ValueJet pilots involved in the incident, Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba, were suspended for violating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) however, sanctioned K1 De Ultimate, restricting him from flying nationally and internationally for six months. The sanction follows the incident at the Abuja airport, where K1 De Ultimate’s actions were deemed a breach of aviation safety regulations.

The NCAA also petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police, asking them to investigate and prosecute veteran Fuji musician.

Speaking, Fayose said: ‘’Just imagine that the pilot is an Igbo man or woman, the thing when go dey happen now for our country be say them for say na Peter Obi send am. Just Imagine! The country is so lawless. People we see now are the arrogant people. The ‘’Do you know who I am.”

NCAA petitions AGF, IG to investigate, prosecute KWAM 1

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police to investigation the incident involving a musician, King Wasiu Ayinde, and domestic airline, ValueJet.

‎This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of NCAA on Thursday in Abuja.

‎The incident, which occurred on Tuesday reportedly disrupted standard operational procedures and raised concerns over passenger conduct and airline safety protocols.

The statement said preliminary reports revealed that during a scheduled ValueJet flight VK201, Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, allegedly involved in actions that violated the Nigeria Civil Aviation regulations.

‎”While full details of the incident are still being compiled, the NCAA has emphasised the importance of upholding aviation safety standards and ensuring accountability, regardless of the parties involved.

‎”In a letter addressed to both the Attorney-General and the Inspector-General of Police, the NCAA called for a comprehensive criminal investigation and the initiation of appropriate prosecution in accordance with the provisions of the Nigeria Civil Aviation regulations (Nig. CARs) 2023 supra and all other applicable laws.

“Director-General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Najomo, has also issued an advisory to Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), urging immediate consideration and institution of a No-Fly List for K1 De Ultimate(on any commercial flight), pending outcome of official investigations,” the statement said.

‎It noted that the advisory was in line with global aviation standards that prioritise the safety of passengers, crew and airline operations.

‎”The NCAA reiterates its commitment to ensuring that no individual, regardless of their status or public image, undermines the integrity of our aviation industry as passengers are held to the same standards of behaviour and compliance within Nigeria’s airspace.

‎”Further updates will be provided as investigations progresses,” the statement added.

  • Kwam 1 was baited by airline staff, and they succeeded in riling him- Veteran actor, Doyle

Kwam 1 was baited by airline staff, and they succeeded in riling him- Veteran actor, Doyle

Nollywood actor Patrick Doyle has weighed in on the ongoing airport incident involving Fuji star, KWAM 1.

As reported by TheNewsGuru, KWAM 1 was blacklisted due to an incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The singer was scheduled to board a morning flight from Abuja to Lagos on August 5, 2025, however, when the Aviation security personnel stopped him after attempting to carry a flask onto the plane, a confrontation ensued, with KWAM 1 reportedly spilling the contents of the flask on a security officer and refusing to step aside for clarification.

This action, prompted the NCAA to take disciplinary action.

The thespian while reacting via his Facebook noted that the singer may have walked into a trap set by airline staff.

He explained that he once had a similar experience at the Asaba airport, where a staff member treated him harshly despite knowing he was a celebrity. Describing the pattern as common, the veteran noted that KWAM 1 may have been pushed to react out of frustration.

He wrote on his Facebook page: “For the most part, celebrities and famous people get preferential treatment in most public spaces. I made a trip to Accra a few days ago, and from the immigration officers at passport control to the supermarket, check out cashier I was given VIP courtesy. However, there have been a few times when I am confronted by a service personnel with a chip on his or her shoulder, who perhaps has been nursing a grudge against me and finally I am within reach for cumuppance.

“Most times, I may never have ever set eyes on the person, but he or she, for whatever reason, has it in for me. maybe for how I acted in a movie or the answer I gave in an interview. Next thing I know, this service personnel from Hell decides to give me a tough time. Like the lady at the airline check-in counter at the Asaba airport, who bluntly refused to let me carry my hand luggage onboard because it weighed half a kilogram over the accepted limit. I tried to jokingly cajole her, and rather than give in, she rudely barked at me to respect myself.

“I knew she recognised me because her colleague had come to take a selfie with me while I was in the queue. I took her rebuke seriously and comported myself before she escalated the issue and cause a scene. Of course, I knew she was baiting me and hoping to upset me enough for me to activate the “insulted big man” mode. Then there would be a shouting match, and I would be in breach of airport protocol, and she would have bragging rights that she humiliated that “useless” Patrick Doyle. Kwam 1 was baited by the airline staff, and sadly, they succeeded in riling him. I can’t say I blame him because I have been known to go ballistic during such episodes myself. These days, I just pray that God should keep such irritants far away from me and whenever I encounter such “blessed” people, I pray for self control and the grace not to fall into their diabolical traps.”

JUST IN: Fuji Star, Kwam 1 blacklisted from Nigerian airports over misconduct

Renowned Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as Kwam 1, has been blacklisted by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) following his alleged unruly conduct at the domestic terminal of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu during a press briefing on Thursday made the announcement.

Achimugu said, “As we speak, the passenger is going to be blacklisted for the next six months flying in Nigeria. Everybody involved in this will be brought to book.”

He emphasised that aviation safety regulations apply to all passengers, regardless of social status or political connections.

“Aviation rules are made for everybody, for the protection of everybody. These rules are global. There is nothing about the rules that is to antagonise any passenger,” he said.

He revealed that the authority is currently writing to the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police to initiate legal proceedings against the music star.

When asked whether Ayinde’s close ties to President Bola Tinubu might shield him from prosecution, Achimugu replied firmly, “The President, as well as the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, are committed to the rule of law. No individual, regardless of status, is exempt from due process.”

Meanwhile, Kwam 1 through his Media Aide, Kunle Rasheed, earlier today disclosed that at no point did he act in a manner that endangered lives or breached safety regulations.

Rasheed stated that the substance in question, which was wrongly sensationalised, was nothing more than plain drinking water, given to him at the airport lounge while waiting to board the aircraft.

The statement emphasised that K1 was the victim in this incident, stressing, “No one else but him and his personal assistant was directly involved. A few concerned passengers who witnessed the incident firsthand appealed to him to remain calm, recognizing the undue pressure he was under.

The statement added, “Our attention has been drawn to reports alleging that King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1 De Ultimate) displayed unruly conduct while attempting to board a ValueJet flight on August 5, 2025, allegedly causing a breach of aviation protocol. We wish to categorically state that this narrative is not only exaggerated but also misleading.

“At no point did K1 act in a manner that endangered lives or breached safety regulations. The substance in ,question which was sensationalised, was nothing more than plain drinking water, given to him at the airport lounge while he waited to board the aircraft. Despite his respectful effort to clarify this, the situation was unnecessarily escalated.

“Claims that K1 blocked the aircraft or attempted to disrupt operations are completely unfounded. The veteran artiste, who is globally respected and frequently travels both locally and internationally, understands and strictly adheres to aviation protocols.

“If indeed there had been anything inappropriate in his conduct, the Head of Airport Security, officials from relevant agencies such as FAAN and NCAA, as well as the Chairman and Managing Director of the airline, would not have reached out personally to appeal, tender apologies, and even go as far as arranging a private jet to fly him to Lagos at no cost. Despite persistent persuasion from the airline’s top executives, K1 graciously declined the offer.

“In light of recent developments, it is important to note that the pilot involved now has her license suspended. Given the circumstances, it is no surprise if she attempts to deflect blame surely, she must lie to cover herself up.

“We urge the media and the public to avoid sensationalism and allow the truth not assumptions to guide their judgment. K1 remains a law-abiding citizen and continues to cooperate fully with all relevant authorities to ensure that the matter is responsibly resolved.”

This singer’s statement comes after the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) accused the singer of splashing alcohol on an aviation security officer after being stopped from boarding the aircraft with the drink. The agency said K1 refused to comply with protocol and had to be escorted off the tarmac.

Following the incident, NCAA suspended two ValueJet pilots over the incident for attempting to take off without proper clearance, a violation of aviation safety procedures.

Two suspended after Kwam 1 forced pilots to breach safety protocol

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has described the incident that happened at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja between ValueJet and Fuji maestro, Kwam 1 as a breackh of safety protocol by two pilots.

FAAN reveals that the two ValueJet pilots attempted to depart without concluding the pre-departure protocols.

According to reports, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had on Tuesday announced the suspension of two pilots working with a domestic carrier, ValueJet

NCAA’s Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, in a statement issued late Tuesday, confirmed the development, saying the NCAA was notified of the violation by the pilots.

A 23-second video posted on the X page (formerly Twitter) of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) showed that the aircraft involved was a CRJ-900ER with registration 5N-BXS.

The aircraft was seen taxiing from its bay with some ground staff maintaining close proximity to the plane indicating that it is not yet cleared to depart. Some of them were seen running away from the aircraft as the pilots taxied with speed from the apron.

Also the airline had issued a statement confirming the crew’s mistake and said the two pilots had been withdrawn from its service.

But the airport operator in a statement explaining the incident said it involved a notable Nigerian musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (also known as K1 De Ultimate), and a pilot of ValueJet Airlines.

According to FAAN, preliminary investigations confirmed that the passenger was scheduled to board the morning flight to Lagos operated by ValueJet Airlines (Flight VK 201).

During boarding, the passenger attempted to carry an unidentified liquid substance on board despite repeated warnings from Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel and the Flight Captain, FAAN explained.

According to reports, KWAM 1, a prominent socialite had on Tuesday breached the aviation protocol after attempting to bring an unidentified liquid substance on board despite repeated warnings from Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel and the flight captain not to.

In the video that surfaced on social media, the singer could be seening standing alongside some aviation workers, when the fliight captain moved the plane abruply, prompting the singer to immediately dodge for his life.

Reacting to the incident, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) accused the Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde of spilling alcohol aviation workers during a boarding process at the Abuja airport.

The FAAN Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, in a statement described the event as a breach of aviation protocol that occurred on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the domestic terminal of the airport.

According to FAAN further disclosed that the musician was scheduled to board ValueJet Flight VK 201 to Lagos when he attempted to bring an unidentified liquid substance on board despite repeated warnings from Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel and the flight captain.

“Liquids exceeding 100ml are not permitted through security screening unless medically necessary and properly declared,” FAAN stated, citing Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP)and ICAO Annex 17 as the regulatory framework.

The passenger, according to FAAN, was informed of this regulation but allegedly declined to comply. When asked by an airline security officer to step aside for clarification, the passenger allegedly refused and spilled the flask’s contents on the officer. The substance was later confirmed to be alcohol.

The situation escalated when the Flight Captain intervened and faced resistance from the musician. After confirming that boarding was complete, the captain instructed that the aircraft door be shut. However, the passenger reportedly moved to the front of the aircraft and refused to leave, causing further disruption.

He was eventually escorted off the plane by the AVSEC crime unit for investigation, and was released shortly after.

FAAN emphasised that the matter remained under “thorough investigation,” stressing its zero tolerance for behavior that threatens aviation safety or undermines operational integrity.

“The Authority will not tolerate any actions that compromise operational integrity or undermine aviation safety standards, regardless of the individuals involved,” Mrs. Orah said.
