How my late mother served as my music composer – Kwam 1

Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as Kwam 1 or K1 De Ultimate, a Nigerian Fuji icon, has disclosed how instrumental his late mother’s contribution was, to his musical career.

Speaking during the podcast show for his latest project, “Ganusi The Album Fuji Classical,” the singer explained that his mother’s contributions to his career success inspired him to dedicate the song “Mama” from the album to her.

The 68-year-old veteran disclosed that his mother, had wanted to be a musician as a young girl, but was prevented from doing so due to her royal background and gender

He went on to add that she taught him the rudiments of music and served as his composer during her lifetime.

He said, “The song ‘Mama’ is to the memory of my mother, who also taught me about the rudiments of music and singing. My mother as a young maiden lady was a singer, a princess by birth that was denied the opportunity of showing dexterity in music because of what she was; a princess of a sitting king and so also a woman whom they want her to settle in marriage.

“But everything [my mother’s talent] was transported on me by God. She transferred it to me and oftentimes she served as my composer, very many times during her lifetime. She made her own contribution into my musical development. So, I think it’s honourable for me to remember her and have a blessed track for her.”

K1 De Ultimate lost his mother, Princess Halima Anifowoshe, in January 2025.

Why I refused to attend Kwam 1,’ mother’s burial – Alhaji Kollington finally breaks silence

Fuji legend Alhaji Kollington Ayinla has stated his reason for staying away from King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, popularly known as Kwam1 or K1 De Ultimate’s mother burial ceremony.

TheNewsGuru reports that K1 De Ultimate, while speaking candidly during an interview on Agbaletu TV, revealed that he felt hurt that Kollington, whom he had supported wholeheartedly when he lost his mother, did not even pay him a visit over his own loss.

According to K1, when his colleague lost his mother, he went above and beyond to help him give his late mother a befitting burial, including footing the entire bill and rallying high-profile guests for the event.

“I am so angry with Alhaji Kollington because he never showed up to offer his condolences when I lost my mum. When his own mother passed away, I supported him to give his mum a befitting burial. I brought a lot of dignitaries to the burial for him and I handled all the finances 100%. See how he paid me back,” K1 said during the interview.

In a recent interview, Ayinla responded to the allegation by revealing that when Wasiu’s mother passed away, he tried calling him multiple times, but the Fuji star neither answered nor returned his calls.

He stated that since Kwam 1 refused to answer his calls or return them, he decided to let it go. The veteran singer mentioned that Kwam 1 couldn’t be so busy that he couldn’t return his call.

He further emphasized his dominance in Fuji music, noting that the foundation of Fuji music was established prior to K1 De Ultimate’s rise to fame.

In his words: “When Wasiu Ayinde’s mum d!ed, I called him severally. He didn’t pick neither did he return the calls. Even on New Year Day, I called and he didn’t pick up.

“I was like what’s wrong with this boy so I let him be. He can’t tell me he was busy. What was he busy doing? If it is because he was crowned The ‘Olori omoba’, that position is for his family at Ijebu, not for me.

“Does he want to become God? I am the leader of all Fuji Singers. If he wants to become the leader, he can come and kpai me. He can never be the leader when I am still alive. For me to have survived the sickness that happened to me recently, it is only God that can kpai me.”

Flashback! Kollington Ayinla reveals reason behind beef with Kwam 1

A decades-long feud between Fuji music legends Kollington Ayinla and K1 De Ultimate has resurfaced, with Ayinla revealing the true reason behind their rift.

In a trending old video circulating online, Ayinla opened up about the incident that led to their estrangement.

According to Ayinla, the rift began after he reached out to K1 De Ultimate to offer condolences following the death of his daughter. However, instead of receiving a warm response, Ayinla claimed that K1 De Ultimate treated him with disdain and subtle public ridicule.

Ayinla recounted how they both attended an event, and K1 De Ultimate walked past him without acknowledging him. When Ayinla sent someone to call K1 De Ultimate, he returned reluctantly and greeted Ayinla grudgingly. The situation escalated when K1 De Ultimate mounted the stage and paid homage to every notable Fuji artist present, including younger stars like Pasuma and Saheed Osupa, while intentionally ignoring Ayinla.

For Ayinla, this incident sealed their rift. He believes that K1 De Ultimate’s actions were motivated by a desire to prove that he pioneered Fuji music, and that Ayinla is seen as competition. Ayinla, however, maintains that the foundation of Fuji music was laid before K1 De Ultimate’s rise to fame.

The revelation has reignited conversations around the history and hierarchy of Fuji music, with many fans wondering if the gap between the old guards and the newer generation can ever truly be bridged. The feud between these two Fuji legends has been a topic of discussion for years, and Ayinla’s recent comments have brought the issue back into the spotlight.

KWAM 1 speaks on being slapped by new wife, Emmanuella

Popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde also known as, KWAM 1, has debunked reports that he was slapped by his new wife, Emmanuella Ropo, over infidelity allegations.

KWAM 1 issued the disclaimer via his media advisor, Kunle Rasheed.

Recall that Wasiu and Emmanuella got married at the Palace of the Alake of Egbaland, Ake Abeokuta, in November 2021.

A popular gossip blogger had alleged that the famous singer and his wife, Emmanuella, had an altercation that became physical.

The blogger had also alleged Emmanuella accompanies him to his official engagements and distracts the Fuji lord on such occasions.

Reacting to the allegations, Mr. Rasheed said: ‘‘Mrs Emmanuella Ropo Marshal is very busy with her wifely duties than to follow the fuji lord to his official engagements. In recent times, the only party she has attended with her husband was the one held in GRA Ikeja Lagos when a top society buff who is a common friend of the couple celebrated his 60th birthday’’.

His statement partly read: ‘‘The said blogger had gone on social media, to allege that Fuji king and Mayegun of Yorubaland, K1 de Ultimate had quarreled with his new wife Emmanuella Ropo Marshal and that the lady had even slapped the fuji king during the said altercation.

“Ordinarily, we would not have bothered to exchange words with this barefaced liar who chooses the holy month of Ramadan to tell hideous lies.

“We merely want to state that at no time did the Mayegun quarrel with his wife Ropo to the extent of her raising her hands on him. We are shocked that such an allegation can be thrown so casually.

“We make bold to say that this allegation is malicious and shudder even more than it could be peddled during Ramadan. Therefore, let the evil peddlers repent and seek the face of Allah for forgiveness’’.

“It is not true that it is only after the use of drugs that they will give a good account of themselves on stage; It is all about education.

“But this problem is not peculiar to fuji, it is the same with all genres of music, talk about Rock music, it is important that we educate them.
