Everything is a possibility – Jibrin on Kwankwaso joining APC

Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin, a member of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in the House of Representatives, has said Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, National Leader of the opposition party, is open to joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jibrin, who has met President Bola Tinubu twice within few weeks, said this on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme.

The lawmaker who represents Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency said some APC members from Kano are not comfortable with Kwankwaso.

However, he added that talks on Kwankwaso’s political direction were still ongoing.

“If you say Kwankwaso is moving into APC, or we are moving to APC, even within the APC in Kano, you have a lot of people that wouldn’t want him to come. Perhaps, those who want to be governor, or those who don’t want to be governor.”

“I’ve tried to ensure that, in the interest of Kano and Nigeria, there is some sort of stability in our polity — It is quite a complex process.

“But everyone knows that I’ve always advocated, even right from the beginning of the government, for us to work with a government of national unity.

“As far as that [joining APC] is concerned, he has always maintained that his doors are open, our doors are open for discussions. Everything is a possibility,” he said.

  • I am not leaving NNPP – Kwankwaso

I am not leaving NNPP – Kwankwaso

The Natonal Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, has maintained that he has no plans to defect to another political party.

Making the clarification at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Thursday, Kwankwaso said the NNPP was performing well in Kano and other states, adding, “we are very happy about that.”

He acknowledged that many people attended the meeting to hear from him following recent fake news reports that he would be making a critical decision about his future with the NNPP.

“But let me take this opportunity to tell you that we have our party, and we are comfortable. We are happy. We are ready to do whatever it takes because we are not in a hurry,” he said.

Kwankwaso emphasised that any negotiation regarding 2027 general election would be a collective decision, as he believed in party supremacy.

“If there will be any negotiation, it will be collective. It will not be only for the negotiators but for the entire members of this NNPP family.

“The fact remains that there is nobody in Kwankwasia today that I know, or even in NNPP, who is saying that, ‘yes, I want to go,” he said.

He advised party members not to be swayed by the hype of politicians defecting to any party.

“Those people don’t understand, and they don’t have much experience. They believe that they know when they actually don’t know.

“Even if they are interested in knowing, I think they should come and ask one of us,” he said.

Kwankwaso recalled how he lost the 2003 governorship election in Kano, even as a sitting governor, due to public support for the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

He noted that he returned to power eight years later, calling it a “good lesson for everybody.”

He said that Nigerians had already made up their minds about the 2027 general election, adding that “reality will determine the people’s votes.”

In his remarks, the party’s National Chairman, Dr Ajuji Ahmed, said the NNPP was “the beautiful bride of Nigerian politics and democracy,” waxing strong as the country heads towards the 2027 elections.

Ahmed urged eligible citizens to register for their permanent voter cards.

Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State, represented by his deputy, Aminu Gwarzo, said despite all plots against the NNPP, the party was progressing under Kwankwaso’s leadership.

He claimed the party won the two recent by-elections in Kano but was robbed of the victory, expressing confidence that the mandate would be reclaimed.

The NNPP’s 2023 Vice Presidential candidate, Bishop Isaac Idahosa, affirmed the party’s readiness for victory in 2027, noting that it was gaining a “focused direction” under Kwankwaso’s leadership.

Highlights of the event included the appointments of caretaker committees for Kogi, Gombe, Taraba, and Jigawa states and the extension of the Lagos State chairman’s tenure.

Attendees included NEC-elected political officers on the NNPP platform and an INEC observer team.

  • Why Kwankwaso cannot be friend with APC – Galadima

Why Kwankwaso cannot be friend with APC – Galadima

A chieftain of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, Buba Galadima, has explained why the former presidential candidate of his party will not join hands with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Galadima accused the federal government of appointing two emirs in Kano, noting that there is a federal government emir and a state emir.

The NNPP chieftain stated this on Monday while fielding questions on Channels TV’s Politics Today programme.

He said: “Why can’t we Nigerians look at issues dispassionately? How can Kwankwaso be a friend of the APC with what they are doing to us in Kano?

“They appointed two emirs in one town. There is a federal government emir, and there is a state emir. Who has got the responsibility to appoint the emir and pay them their salary?

“The federal government have their emir. They have not less than 40 pickup trucks filled with mobile police guarding their own emir.

“It’s a federal government appointee because it’s the Federal High Court that has ruled halfway to suggest so. I’m not making an accusation. I’m making a statement.”

Kwankwaso slams Tinubu days after meeting with him in Aso Rock, says “he’s marginalizing North

Barely four days after visiting President Bola Tinubu, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has accused his administration of marginalising northern Nigeria by concentrating the country’s resources in the South.

Speaking during the Kano State Stakeholders’ Dialogue on the 2025 Constitutional Amendment on Thursday, Kwankwaso alleged that the federal government was unfairly directing national funds to one section of the country, while leaving the North under-resourced and neglected.

“A situation where the government is taking our resources and dumping it in one part of the country and other parts of the country are left just like that — I don’t believe that is the right thing to do by the government,” Kwankwaso said.

“This is the time for the government to convince our people that the government is not just on one side of the country.”

The former Kano State governor said information available to him suggests that “most of the national budget is now tilting in one direction in this country,” warning that the imbalance could worsen the challenges already facing the region.

He further cautioned that the North is already grappling with insecurity and poverty largely because of a lack of sufficient resources and poor management of what little it receives.

“Let me advise those who are struggling by all means to take everything to remember that some of the issues that we have in this part of the country today have to do with the lack of enough resources and mismanagement of the little that comes in,” he said.

“That is why we have insecurity, we have poverty, and so on. It is happening here mainly, but like a desert, it would go everywhere.”

Kwankwaso’s comments come amid ongoing concerns in northern Nigeria over perceived lopsidedness in appointments, project siting, and allocation of federal funds under the current administration.

  • We’ll give Kwankwaso red carpet reception if he decides to join APC – Ganduje

We’ll give Kwankwaso red carpet reception if he decides to join APC – Ganduje

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has said that the party will give red carpet reception to Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former Kano Governor if he decides to join.
Addressing the press after receiving Alhaji Yusuf Ata, Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development, Ganduje said:” The APC is deepening and widening democracy in the country.

”Kwankwaso is a fish out of water, trying to find its way back into the waters.

“We cannot say we can’t accommodate him, because a friend in need is a friend indeed.

“We don’t want to leave him completely abandoned, we can still have him in, if he wants to join us”.

“When you see your son running to where he would get shelter and you are a big brother in a big home, I think it is morally right to accommodate him.

“So, we cannot say we cannot accommodate him,” Ganduje stressed.

In 2023, Kwankwaso ran for the Presidency under the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) receiving 6.23% of the vote.

Ata, who is a former Kano Speaker, stated that his reason for visiting Ganduje was to appreciate him and give his support for what the President Bola Tinubu-led administration is doing in Kano State.

“We are strongly behind Tinubu, and we are working round the clock to ensure we deliver Kano State in 2027,” he said.

Speaking on the ‘Kwankwasiyya movement”, Ata said the Kwankwasiyya red cap era was becoming a thing of the past in the state.

”For me, I will not want the former Kano State governor to be welcomed into the APC fold. But I have no choice if our national chairman decides to have him on board,” Ata said.

Gov.Abba Yusuf of Kano State  has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Sen. Rabiu  Kwankwaso’s political decisions.

Yusuf pledged to follow Kwankwaso’s political lead, stating, “wherever he goes politically, his supporters will follow.”

The Governor made this declaration while addressing 484 local government Councillors from the 44 Local government areas at the Government House on Sunday.

Yusuf also dismissed the allegations made by Baffa Bichi, former Secretary to the State Government labeling him as ‘a shameless liar’, describing the claims as false and laughable.

The governor particularly refuted the claim that Kwankwaso receives N2 billion monthly from the Kano State Government, describing the allegation as “the height of political desperation and dishonesty.”

Yusuf praised Kwankwaso as “one of the purest and most selfless individuals in Kano,” stating that he has never demanded any funds from the administration or interfered with government’s finances.

The governor questioned Bichi’s timing and motive, stating that he served in the government for over a year without raising concerns, adding, “he is only speaking out after his dismissal due to poor performance.”

Yusuf criticised Bichi for lacking integrity, suggesting, “he should have spoken out while still in office if he had genuine concerns.

“You were in this government for more than a year, If you had any integrity, you would have spoken out while still in office.

“But you chose silence until you were sent parking. That exposes your real motive.”

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and good governance.

Yusuf also urged the people of the state to disregard what he described as ”the noise of bitter politicians who have lost relevance.”

2027 realignment: Kwankwaso denies pact with Atiku, Obi

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the National leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has denied having an agreement with the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his counterpart from Labour Party Peter Obi.

Kwankwaso said claims of him ruling Nigeria for four years, Atiku ruling for four years, while Obi for eight years was false.

Speaking in an interview with BBC, the former Kano State governor said he was unaware of such a plan.

He, however, admitted to have heard that members of Atiku’s camp are consulting and having meetings with regional leaders and clerics to push such narrative.

According to Kwankwaso: “I did not appreciate this at all.

“They were told that I had agreed to a deal where Atiku would serve for four years, I would serve for another four years, and Peter Obi would serve for eight years.

“This is completely false; such an agreement never existed.

“Such lies and deceit are precisely why we left. Myself, Peter Obi, Wike, and others all left.

“Now they are coming back, asking us to help those who humiliated us to achieve their goals.”

  • Kwankwaso’s meeting with Gov Otti ignites political realignment ahead 2027

Kwankwaso’s meeting with Gov Otti ignites political realignment ahead 2027

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State hosted Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), over the weekend in a visit that has igniteted growing speculation about a potential political alignment between Kwankwaso’s party and a faction of the Labour Party (LP).

Kwankwaso’s visit to the Abia State governor comes amid ongoing internal divisions within the Labour Party.

These divisions became more pronounced after Governor Otti, alongside other prominent LP figures, led an effort to challenge and oust the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee of the party just weeks ago.

This leadership crisis within LP has created uncertainty at both the state and national levels, and many have attributed the party’s internal turmoil to its poor performance in the recent local government elections held across the 17 local government areas of Abia State.

During his visit, Kwankwaso explained that he was in Abia to express his condolences to Governor Otti following the death of Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, the first civilian governor of Abia State, who was laid to rest over the weekend.

In addition to offering his sympathies, Kwankwaso took the opportunity to congratulate Otti on his successful tenure as governor, highlighting the progress and development Abia State has experienced under his leadership.

am impressed by what I have seen during my short time here. I have had conversations with several individuals, and they have all confirmed that you are doing exceptionally well. Your efforts are visible, and the projects in the state are truly remarkable,” Kwankwaso remarked, acknowledging Otti’s leadership and the strides the state has made in various sectors.

Governor Otti, in turn, expressed his gratitude to Kwankwaso for his visit and support. He emphasized how much he values the senator’s guidance and patriotism, which have played an important role in shaping his own political journey.

The visit has stirred further conversations about the future of the Labour Party and the possibility of a strategic alliance as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.

  • Kano Gov reacts to alleged rift between him and Kwankwaso, says it’s unimaginable

Kano Gov reacts to alleged rift between him and Kwankwaso, says it’s unimaginable

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf has denied having any form of rift between him and his political leader, Rafiu Kwankwaso.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG recalls that the media was agog barely two days ago that the governor snubbed Kwankwaso’s 34 calls, this gave credence to the fact that things were falling apart.

In response to the rising tensions within the party, the NNPP’s state leadership recently suspended Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, Secretary to the State Government, and Muhammad Diggol, Commissioner of Transportation, accusing them of involvement in the “Abba Tsaya da Kafarka” campaign. Both officials have denied these allegations.

As support for this faction grows, other prominent members of the Kwankwasiyya movement, including House representatives Aliyu Sani Madakin Gini and Alhassan Rurum, have publicly distanced themselves from Kwankwaso, encouraging Yusuf to assert his independence. Governor Yusuf, however, stood firm in his loyalty.

“It’s as if people do not understand the role Kwankwaso has played. Where were these critics when he was laying the foundation for what we are doing now?” he questioned.

Yusuf also expressed frustration with media reports suggesting that he had ignored multiple calls from Kwankwaso. “They said Kwankwaso called me more than 30 times, and I refused to answer. Where did they get this from?” Yusuf asked. “If not for my respect for journalists, I would have taken the person who wrote that to court. But I know, and Kwankwaso knows, that it’s all lies. There is no rift.”

Finally, he appealed to his supporters to reject divisive slogans, urging respect and unity within the party. “As of today, I don’t want to hear ‘stand on your own’ in Kano State or anywhere in Nigeria,” he said. “We were raised to respect elders, not to insult them.”
