    Police arrest 2 ritualists with human head in Kwara

    The Police Command in Kwara has arrested two suspected ritualists, Femi Adeniji and Shittu Abdulmalik, with fresh human head in Amuyo Area, Offa.

    This is contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), SP Ajayi Okasanmi, on Monday in Ilorin.

    The statement said that the first suspect (Adeniji), kidnapped one Rianat Yusuf of the same area and he severed the two hands and the head of the victim and dumped her lifeless body in an uncompleted building in Amuyo.

    It said further that the deceased left her home on errand to buy ‘Kulikuli’ which was to be used to drink Garri (cassava flour) and had since not seen.

    It added that the suspect was arrested in connection with a case of missing girl and during the investigation, Adeniji confessed further that he had sold one of the hands to his accomplice who is presently at large

    “The second suspects, Abdulmalik, confessed to have used the second hand of the deceased for money-making soap.

    “The Commissioner of Police warns of grave legal consequences for perpetrators of crimes and criminality in Kwara State.

    “The Command therefore wishes to advise criminal elements to vacate Kwara State or risk being arrested, prosecuted and be permanently accommodated in the correctional facilities.

    “The Command wishes to call the attention of parents and guardians to the rising incidents of ritual murders among the youth for money ritual purposes.

    “Investigation into the matter is ongoing, the suspects will be charged to court at conclusion of investigation.”

    Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Police Command, CP Tuesday Assayomo, advised the youth to shun the desire for quick and easy money, as there is no alternative to hard work.

    Court orders interim forfeiture of N5.3bn linked to Kwara based firm

    A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the interim forfeiture of the sum of ₦5,318,517,789 warehoused in a new generation bank.

    Justice Tijjani Ringim made the order on Wednesday following an ex parte motion filed and argued by counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Rotimi Oyedepo.

    Oyedepo linked the sum to a firm, Kaiser Strategic Services Ltd, located at 9, Orioko Ilorin Kwara State.

    He added that it was reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activity as the firm has no known business endeavor.

    He told the court that the money was deposited in three bank accounts in tranches of ₦1,407,182,797.00, ₦2,275,525,493.17 and ₦1,635,809,499.31.

    The lawyer asked the judge to forfeit the sum to the Federal Government for 14 days in the interim and subsequently, permanently.

    To this end, he applied for an order of court “directing the publication in any national newspaper the interim order…to enable any interested party in the sum sought to be forfeited to appear before the court to show cause within 14 days why the final order of forfeiture of the funds should not be made in favour of the Federal Government of Nigeria”.

    Oyedepo backed his application with a four-page affidavit sworn to by an EFCC investigator, Adamu Usman Yusuf.

    Justice Ringim in a bench ruling granted the application.

    He then adjourned till September 29, for a report of compliance.

    According to the affidavit, Kaiser Strategic Services Ltd was incorporated on November 18, 2010, with a registered address at No. 9. Orioko Ilorin, Kwara State.

    Yusuf said: “That there is no business endeavour in the said address. That the Company is not carrying out any legitimate business but rather was primarily procured to retain proceeds of unlawful activities.

    “Upon incorporation of the Kaiser Strategic Services Ltd, a corporate account was opened. The account started witnessing huge cash deposits which are not proceeds of a legitimate business but rather represent funds reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities.

    “We invited the Managing Director of Kaiser Strategic Services Ltd vide a letter dated 3rd August 2021 which letter was acknowledged by one A. Muhamed.

    “Till date, we have not received any objection or opposition from Kaiser Strategic Services Ltd to the Commission’s decision proceeding against the funds sought to be forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria, same having been reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities.”

    Police rescue kidnapped student, arrest six suspects in Kwara

    The Police Command in Kwara says it has rescued the abducted Kwara State University student, Khadijat Isiaq, and arrested six suspects.

    This is contained in a statement issued by the command’s Police Public Relation Officer, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, on Saturday in Ilorin.

    Ajayi said that the victim, a 300 Level female student of Mass Communication, KWASU, Malete, was kidnapped on August 23, at Okoru Village, near Malete at about 9.30pm.

    According to him, operation conducted in rescuing the abducted student was in accordance with the support of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba.

    “Also, with the help of the local hunters, vigilante group and the school authority,” he said.

    The PPRO said that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Tuesday Assayomo, has reassured his commitment to making the state inhabitable for criminals.

    Ajayi said that assorted weapons used in the kidnap were recovered from the suspects.

    “The victim has been medically examined and declared fit and will be reunited with her family soon.

    “The suspects will be charged to court after investigation,” he said.

    Saraki condoles with Kwarans over death of Ex-Dep. Governor, Ogundeji

    Immediate-past President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has commiserated with the people of Kwara State over the passing of Chief Joel Ogundeji, who served as Deputy Governor of Kwara State, between 2003 and 2011.

    Saraki, in whose administration as Governor of Kwara State, Ogundeji served, described the death of the late politician, civil servant and educationist as a great loss to the state, particularly at this time, when the wisdom and experience of senior stakeholders are needed to steer the ship of the state.

    “I am extremely sad and heartbroken to learn about the passing of Chief Joel Ogundeji, who served as Deputy Governor, in the eight years of my tenure as the Governor of Kwara State.

    “Throughout his life, which was dedicated to the service of his community, our state and the country, Chief Ogundeji was a steadfast, reliable and experienced leader and educator, whose commitment to the development of our state and its people was undeniable in both his words and action.

    “During our time in the Governor’s Office, Chief Ogundeji’s advice, particularly in dealing with issues concerning the bureaucracy, education sector, and traditional institutions were invaluable. He was also a diligent and loyal deputy, who despite his age, kept up with the fast-pace with which the administration moved in tackling the challenges of the time.

    “As we mourn the passing of this great Kwaran, I pray that Almighty God comforts his wife, Mrs. Comfort Ogundeji, and his children; the people of Iwo in Isin LGA; and the entire government and people of Kwara State. He will be dearly missed,” Saraki said.

    Following Saraki’s election as the candidate of the PDP in the 2003 Gubernatorial Election, Chief Ogundeji was nominated to run alongside Saraki as his Deputy. Ogundeji, who was a devout Christian and a party leader from Iwo, in Isin local government area, was also a senior education officer in four post primary educational institutions between 1970 and 1995.

    The late Deputy Governor was also a career officer in the Kwara State Civil Service from which he voluntarily retired in May 1993 as the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics in the Local Government Service Commission. He was the chairman/administrator of Irepodun Local government, Omu-Aran between June 1986 and December 1987. He also served at Edu LGA in Lafiaji as the Secretary of the council between January 1988 and June 1990.

    Police rescue 4 kidnapped victims in Kwara

    The Kwara Police Command said it has rescued four of the seven people abducted on Ilorin-Omu-Aran road on Saturday.

    The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Ajayi Okasanmi, disclosed this in a press statement on Sunday in Omu-Aran.

    The command said it received reports of two kidnap incidents simultaneously on Saturday at about 5:35p.m on Oke-Onigbin/Omu-Aran highway and Ekiti -Ekan Meje axis.

    The statement explained that six armed men emerged from the bush and stopped a Siena bus in transit from Ekiti on its way to Ilorin and marched the seven occupants of the vehicle into the bush.

    “The command promptly dispatched its tactical units, comprising the anti-kidnapping and anti-cultists units, joined by local hunters and vigilantes while policemen who were on patrols on the routes were alerted.

    “The abductors were instantly chased into the bushes, four out of the seven abducted persons were rescued; efforts are still in top gear to get the remaining three rescued.

    “Deploying similar tactics by operatives, those abducted in Ekan-Meje-Ekiti axis using the same modus were equally rescued, remaining a pastor and his wife who the command is frantically doing everything possible to rescue unhurt,’’ the police said

    The statement said some suspects had been arrested and were helping the command in its investigation.

    “The situation is under control; the good people of Kwara State are advised to go about their lawful businesses without any fear of molestation and attack,’’ the police said.

    The statement said the police have intensified patrols on all the routes.

    It advised residents to report suspected activities to the police.

    Day-old baby abandoned on refuse dump site in Kwara

    Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara Command, have saved a day-old-baby girl, abandoned at a dump site, in the early hours of Friday.

    The Command’s Spokesman, Mr Babawale Afolabi, said this in a statement made available to newsmen in Ilorin on Friday.

    Afolabi said the incident occurred at Dokoyirigi Compound, Patigi, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara.

    “In the early hours of Friday, one of our officers at the Patigi Divisional office, was on her way to the office, when she discovered an unidentified baby girl.

    “The baby was left in a stinking dump site, located around Dokoyirigi Area, of the town.

    “She said the baby, already becoming unconscious, was a girl and the officer quickly took her to the general hospital in Patigi.

    “The baby was immediately attended to and her medical condition has stabilised,” Afolabi said.

    The Spokesman, however, said efforts were ongoing to arrest the wicked person that left the baby in such a dehumanising condition.

    He said a staff of the hospital had signified her intention to adopt the baby, after all the necessary and proper documentation and actions might have taken place.

    Kwara govt. appoints Polaris Bank director as new Emir of Lafiagi

    Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq of Kwara, on Friday, approved the appointment of Ahaji Kawu Mohammed-Kudu, as the new Emir of Lafiagi, headquarters of Edu Local Government Area of the state.

    According to reports, Mohammed-Kudu was, until his appointment, the Director (North Central) of Polaris Bank.

    NAN also reports that the appointment of the new emir was in conformity with the powers conferred on the governor by Chiefs Appointment and Deposition Law of the state.

    Consequently, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Aliyu Saifudeen, has presented letter of appointment to the first-class traditional ruler, on behalf of the governor.

    Saifudeen, while presenting the letter, congratulated the new emir on what he described as a well-deserved appointment.

    He reminded Mohammed-Kudu that the appointment had put him in a good stead to build bridge of harmony, understanding, tolerance and peaceful coexistence among his people.

    In his acceptance speech, the new emir praised Allah for making the occasion a reality, assuring that he would be fair to all and carry everyone along in the discharge of his responsibilities.

    He also assured that he would promote peaceful coexistence and participate in the laudable programmes and policies of the state government.

    The new traditional ruler succeeds Alhaji Saadu Kawu-Haliru who died on July 8.

    APC summons Minister Lai Mohammed for opening factional office in Kwara

    The Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has summoned the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, over a parallel state secretariat the minister opened in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

    According to reports, the National Secretariat sent two letters to the minister inviting him to come and explain why disciplinary measures should not be taken against him for the action.

    The state headquarters of the party is located in the Tanke area of the state while the minister’s faction recently unveiled its secretariat at GRA, Ilorin.

    This is coming on the heels of a threat by the State Caretaker Committee Chairman, Alhaji Samari Abubakar, to sanction the minister for anti-party activities.

    Abubakar told reporters in Abuja on Wednesday that the party may sanction the minister in line with its constitution.

    A source at the Secretariat said the party has received a report of anti-party activities against the minister.

    “I know that Lai Mohammed has been summoned. The Caretaker Committee sent him two letters asking him to explain the rationale behind a factional party secretariat he opened in Kwara,” the source said

    The party’s National Secretary John James Akpanudoedehe said he could not deny or confirm the invitation to Muhammed but added that APC leadership would not tolerate anyone who tries to divide the party at any level.

    Akpanudoehede said the Committee was committed to ensuring peace at all levels of the party, hence “the need to invite the Minister to interface with a committee”.

    “The Minister is an elder and we shall accord him the much respect and the party will not allow anything to put him to disrepute. The party on another hand will no allow anybody to violate its constitution,” the Secretary stated.

    10 members of a family die after taking herbal mixture in Kwara

    Ten members of the same Fulani family have died in Kwara after consuming a herbal mixture said to be the cure for foot infection.

    The Kwara Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP. Ajayi Okasanmi, made the confirmation in a statement on Wednesday Ilorin.

    According to him, on June 22, at about 0700hrs, one Ibrahim Bonnie of Fulani camp Biogberu, via Gwanara, reported at the police station.

    He said that one Okosi Musa and Worugura Junlin, came to his mother, Pennia Bonni of same Fulani camp, who was having a foot infection, with a local herbal mixture purported to be the cure for her ailment.

    “She was also told to ensure that all her family members take out of the mixture to prevent the spread of the disease to other family members.

    “After taking the local herbal mixture, the family members started dying one after the other, at the last count, 10 members including the infected mother, have died.

    “The Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Lawal Bagega, has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident; the two suspects are already helping the police in their investigation.

    “The commissioner of police advises sick members of the public to seek medical solution in recognised medical homes spread across the length and breadth of the state to avoid ugly incidents of this nature.

    “Suspects will have their day in court at the conclusion of investigation,” he added.

    Man flees as hotel exposes murdered female companion

    The Kwara State Police Command has begun searching for a man who allegedly killed a lady in a hotel in Ilorin, the state capital, about three weeks ago.

    The suspect, whom the police recognized as Adegboye James of Okelowo Street, Ede, Osun State, was alleged to have killed the lady whom he brought to the hotel on Adewole Housing Estate, Ilorin, on May 27, 2021.

    The police, in a statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ajayi Okasanmi, said the address given by the suspect was fake and could not be found.

    He called on members of the public whose daughter or female relation was missing since May 28, 2021, to check the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for possible identification of the corpse.

    The statement read, “On May 28, 2021, around 7.30pm, we responded to a call from one Olalekan Anafi, the supervisor of Premium Diamond Hotel, in the Adewole area of Ilorin that on May 27, 2021, around 2pm, one Adegboye James, lodged at their hotel.

    “The said Adegboye James went out and came back with a lady. The said Adegboye James later checked out of the hotel without the knowledge of any of the hotel staff.

    “In the morning of the following day when nothing was heard from the room occupied by the said lodger, a spare key was used to open the room and the hotel was confronted by the dead body of the lady.

    “Investigation into the incident is already at an advanced stage as ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State, CP Mohammed Bagega, to arrest the lodger whose name and address as reflected in the hotel’s logbook is fake.”
