Bosso denies report he rejected bribe money from agent

Flying Eagles’ Head Coach, Isah Ladan Bosso has denied a report in a section of the media that he granted an interview in which he claimed to have rejected the sum of €100,000 offered by a football agent to have the latter’s player in the Nigeria U20 squad.

The report claimed that Bosso, who tinkered the Nigeria intermediate team to win the WAFU B U20 Championship in Niger Republic last year and will lead them to the Africa U20 Cup of Nations starting in Egypt next month, made a statement to the effect that he had refused the amount offered by a certain overseas-based football agent.

“Please permit me to clear the air on this news making the rounds about me rejecting an amount of money from a football agent. I never made such a claim to any journalist, talk less of in a formal interview. There was no time I made such a statement to either a journalist or any other person for that matter. If anyone has proof of my making such a statement, the person should come out and tender it in public.

“At the moment, I am focused on ensuring the Flying Eagles prepare very well and we are able to pick the very best legs to represent Nigeria at the Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Egypt. We surely can do without such distractions.”

Bosso also shed more light on the number of players invited to camp for the final phase of preparations ahead of the U20 tournament.

“I have also read somewhere that we have 65 players in the camp; this is outright falsehood. There’s no way we can have that bogus number in the camp. We resumed with 35  players in the camp and that is the number we have for now. Working with my assistants, we will start to trim the squad once the overseas-based professionals start arriving in camp.”

The veteran trainer also called on stakeholders to rally round and support the Flying Eagles as the team embarks on the mission to conquer Africa for the eighth time. “I am calling on all critical stakeholders including the media to rally round and support this team. We need no distractions at this point; all we need is the support of everyone in our quest to qualify for the FIFA World Cup finals in Indonesia.”

WAFU: Nigeria will present formidable team, in spite short preparation – Bosso

Flying Eagles coach Ladan Bosso says the technical crew are working round the clock to present a formidable team for the WAFU B U-20 tournament in Togo, in spite of the short time for preparation.

Bosso told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the team started intense training at the FIFA Goal project of the Moshood Abiola national stadium Abuja just last week in preparation for the tournament.

NAN reports that Nigeria are drawn in a tough Group B of the WAFU U-20 qualifying tournament alongside Ghana’s Black Satellites and the Junior Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire for the tournament taking place in Togo from Nov. 18 to Dec. 2.

Hosts Togo, Niger, Benin Republic, and Burkina Faso will battle it out in Group A, from which the top two teams will qualify to represent the zone at the 2021 U20 AFCON in Mauritania.

Bosso said the technical crew had strategicaly prunned down the 180 players in camp to 35 in just a week due to the time constrain, noting that the 25- man provisional squad would soon be released by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

“For the first time within seven days, I was able to streamline the team from 180 to 35 players.

“You can see that the team is taking shape, we have had two friendly matches, so we are trying to build on the mistakes noticed in the matches before we move to the next phase,” he said.

The experienced gaffer said the players were selected from former U-17 national players and those within the age bracket from former U-20 team, the League and former LMC U-17 boys.

He said the technical crew was also scouting Europe for some players, just in case there might be need to draft them to the team.

The coach called for the support of Nigerians and football stakeholders while expressing confidence in the team’s ability to qualify for the tournament in Mauritania.

Bosso was recently appointed coach of the Flying Eagles for a second time.

In his first stint, he led Nigeria to the quarter-finals of the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada.

  • Supremacy of personal interests delaying kick-off of 2018/2019 NPFL season – Bosso

Supremacy of personal interests delaying kick-off of 2018/2019 NPFL season – Bosso

Ladan Bosso, the Chief Coach of Gombe United Football Club, on Monday said the 2018/2019 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has not kicked off because of the supremacy of personal interests.

Bosso told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe that divergent views resulting from administrators’ personal interests have been making it difficult for the competition’s organisers to reach a decision.

“This is not good for the development of the game, and it is frustrating coaches, players, referees and other stakeholders.

“When action is supposed to be taken, they find it difficult to reach a decision because of too many interests.

“When there are too many interests here and there, it will be difficult to take decisions and that has been delaying the commencement of the league,’’ he said.

Bosso then said the league’s organisers, the League Management Company (LMC), needed to be firm and direct in order for the game to develop.

“If this is the case it will take no time to decide,” the coach said.

He decried attempts by some groups to hold the football community in Nigeria to ransom.

“Administration of football is not by relevance or ego, but a deliberate effort through purpose-driven leadership for the good of the game.

“Some people at the helm of affairs also have to calm down, not because they are not wise but for the development of the game and the sake of players and coaches.”

Bosso lamented the fact that coaches and players have been training in preparation for the new season without knowing when the league would begin.

“This is frustrating for all football stakeholders.’’

He then appealed to all those who have grouped themselves into factions to come together for an agreement on the way forward for the sake of football development in Nigeria.

The coach said his movement to Gombe United FC was to help in uplifting the club through collective efforts involving the players and the Gombe State Government.

He added that he would aim at building a legacy that would ensure he would be remembered after he must have left the club.

NAN reports that Bosso, who was unveiled as Gombe United FC’s Chief Coach on Dec. 24, had earlier coached at Enyimba International, Kano Pillars, Niger Tornadoes, Abia Warriors and FC IfeanyiUbah.

LMC had on Oct. 31 proposed a Dec. 1 date for the resumption of the 2018/2019 NPFL season.
