    4 burnt to death, 16 injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway accident

    Four persons were burnt to death on Friday while 16 others sustained injuries in a lone accident involving a Mazda bus at Oniworo, Foursquare Camp area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

    Mr Ahmed Umar, FRSC Sector Commander in Ogun confirmed the accident in Abeokuta, saying the accident occurred at 7:50 a.m.

    He stated that the bus driver was speeding excessively before losing control and ramming into the median. The bus summersaulted and went into flames.

    “A total of 20 persons were involved, four burnt beyond recognition while one female and 15 men were injured.

    Umar stated that the injured victims were taken to a hospital at Ogere in Ogun.

    He advised motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations to avoid crashes.

    Car crushes two men to death while fighting on Lagos-Ibadan expressway

    Two adult men have lost their lives when fighting on the Oshodi-Oke inward Gbagada linking  Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Lagos state, Nigeria.

    The victims were arguing and fighting when an incoming car crushed them to death.

    Lagos State Emergency Management Agency(LASEMA) permanent secretary, Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu,  who confirmed the incident mentioned that the Nigeria Police, Lagos Response Unit paramedics, and other agencies were first responders at the scene.

    He said, “Upon the arrival of LRT at the scene of the incident, it was discovered that two male adult casualties were found on the ground.

    “One of the casualties was confirmed dead at the scene.

    “Further information gathered from the Police at the scene revealed that the two male adults were fighting on the expressway and were hit by a vehicle.

    “The Agency’s paramedics team gave first aid to the other victim at the scene, who was then transported to Gbagada General Hospital for further treatment.”

    The other victim also gave up the ghost a few hours later at the hospital.

    FG to deliver Lagos-Ibadan Expressway before Christmas – Fashola

    Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has assured Nigerians that the gridlock on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway will soon disappear by the time the road is completed.

    Fashola reiterated the Federal Government’s desire and commitment to delivering infrastructural projects to Nigerians, saying the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway project will be completed before December 25, 2022.

    Fashola made this known during an interview on Channels Television’s political program Sunday Politics, where he commended President Muhammadu Buhari’s efforts in delivering the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.

    Asked when the project will be completed, the Minister said the Federal Government plans to deliver the project before Christmas.

    “People used to do a one-week trip for a whole day so that is progress. We plan to finish this year,” the minister said.

    Fashola however said that the government is waiting for the Oyo State Government to play its role to aid the speedy completion of the project.

    “It is less than two hours now to go to Ibadan, you can do Ibadan and come back twice a day now and we haven’t finished. We don’t want to finish and the road is open again.

    If you see, the lane marking is already going on, the road furniture is simultaneously being installed road marking is going on and we are waiting for Oyo State. Governor Makinde and I will resolve that pretty soon,” he stated

    Tanker explodes, goes up in flames on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

    A tanker fully loaded with diesel went up in flames on the long Bridge, Warewa axis of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Ogun state.

    The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said the crash occurred at about 10pm on Tuesday, involving three male adults.

    It was gathered that the diesel tanker with the registration number, KSF336XX, was the only vehicle involved in the fire accident.

    The FRSC spokesperson in Ogun State, Florence Okpe, told pressmen that one man was injured in the crash, stating that no death was recorded.

    Okpe blamed the accident on mechanical deficiency, adding that the injured victim has been rushed to the hospital for treatment.

    He  warned drivers of articulated vehicles, especially those carrying flammable substances to always be cautious and drive within the regulated speed limit and also maintain all vehicle safety protocols like the use of safety valves to prevent spillages of content in the event of a crash.

    “Three persons were involved, all male adults, and one sustained injury. No death was recorded from the crash.

    “One vehicle, a diesel truck, was involved. The suspected cause of the lone crash was mechanical deficiency.

    “The injured victim was taken to Hopeland Medical Centre, Warewa.

    “The scene of the crash was cordoned off to avoid a secondary crash,” Okpe explained

  • Five dead, few injured as bus catches fire on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

    About five persons have been reported  dead as a bus caught fire while plying the the Lagos -Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday morning.

    The crash occurred at about 08:38am on Wednesday, opposite Tabiorah Church, Ogere, Ogun State.

    The crashed  bus a Toyota Hiace bus, marked KAA601XA, had 14 persons on board – seven men, four women, a boy and two girls.

    It was gathered that the remaining passengers on board have been rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

    The Ogun State spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Florence Okpe, disclosed that ”the suspected cause of the lone crash was mechanical deficiency which resulted to fire outbreak while the vehicle was still on motion.”

    Okpe identified the  victims to be  two male adults, one female adults and two young female.

    She added that nine persons – five male adults, three female adults and a boy sustained injuries.

    The injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, while the corpses were deposited at FOS Mogue in Ipara, Okpe disclosed.

    “The Sector Commander is deeply pained by the unfortunate incident and wishes the families of the deceased the strength to bear their losses.

    “He also advised motorists to always put their vehicles in good condition before planning for any trip,” Okpe said.

    Seven die, five injured in Lagos-Ibadan expressway accident

    Seven persons have reportedly died at the Ogunmakin end of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Ogun State,

    The accident, which happened just opposite the office of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) at about 5:40pm on Friday, involved a Mazda bus, with registration number, LSR696XS and a truck, marked T-4889LA.

    The FRSC confirmed that a total of 16 persons were involved in the accident, comprising 15 male adults and one female.

    Florence Okpe the Ogun FRSC spokesman said about five men got injured in the accident while 7 confirmed dead.

    According to her, Six adult men and a woman lost their lives in the accident.

    “The injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere for medical treatment, while the dead bodies were deposited at FOS morgue, Ipara.

    “The suspected causes of the crash were excessive speed, which led to the loss of control on the part of the Mazda bus as it ran into the moving truck,” Okpe disclosed.

    Ahmed Umar the FRSC sector commander in Ogun state has called for caution application of speed limit to avoid accident in this holiday period.

    He urged travellers to thread with caution while going for Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

    No fewer than four persons were burnt to death while 13 others sustained injuries on Wednesday in a lone accident involving a Toyota Hiace bus, at Fidiwo on Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

    Mr Ahmed Umar, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta.

    Umar said that the accident occured at 2:25p.m. and was caused by excessive speed, tyre burst and loss of control which led to the vehicle summersaulting and in the process catching fire.

    He said that all those involved in the accident were male adults.

    “The vehicle registration number could not be retrieved,” he said.

    Umar said that the injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital Ogere and Idera Hospital Sagamu

    He said that the deceased were deposited at the morgue of Victory Hospital.

    The sector commander commiserated with the families of the crash victims and advised motorists to drive cautiously, always check their tyres and avoid excessive speed.

    Fuel tanker explodes on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

    A fuel tanker exploded on Thursday on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway after it had a collision with two buses.

    Mr Ahmed Umar, Ogun Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta.

    “A multiple crash involving a tanker and two other vehicles occurred around a worship centre on the outward section of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Thursday.

    “Motorists are advised to drive cautiously and remain calm until the resultant fire is extinguished,’’ he advised.

    Umar assured that FRSC personnel and sister agencies were on ground to ensure orderliness.

    Police burst 12-man gang terrorising travellers on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

    The Police Command in Oyo State has arrested no fewer than 12 suspects allegedly connected with cases of kidnapping at Onigari in Oluyole Local Government Area, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

    The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ngozi Onadeko paraded the suspects on Thursday at the Command’s Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan.

    The command also paraded 20 other suspects involved in alleged conspiracy, armed robbery, murder and impersonation as an army officer.

    Onadeko said that owing to the rising cases of kidnapping on Lagos/Ibadan expressway and murder at Onigari area of Oluyole Local Government Area on Jan. 7, the command immediately swung into action deploying intelligence and tactical assets.

    She said that the deployment at 3.30p.m., on Jan. 14, led to the arrest of one of the suspects, alias Maku-Maku, a suspected member of the kidnapping gang that had been terrorising travellers on the Lagos/Ibadan expressway.

    The CP said that further investigation led to the arrest of other suspects while some were still at large.

    Onadeko said the suspects confessed to have carried out the the kidnapping operations that led to the death of one Oluwatosin Anwajoye, 45, at Onigari area of Lagos/Ibadan expressway on Jan.7.

    In an interview with the journalists, one of the suspects, a commercial motorcyclist, confessed to be the one supplying the gang members food and other items.

    He said that N10, 000 was paid to him for each errand he ran for the gang.

    The commercial motorcyclist said the kidnappers promised to buy him a new motorcycle after their operation.

    A victim of the gang, Folahan Olaleye, told journalists that his family was coming from Lagos on Dec. 24, 2021 at 8.00p.m., when they were attacked and kidnapped at Onigari area on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

    The victim said that he was shot while his daughter and pregnant wife were beaten.

    He said that his wife and daughter were later released, but he was held in captivity and a ransom was demanded from his family.

    Olaleye said that N2,750,000 ransom was eventually paid before he was released by his captors.

    2 die in tanker explosion on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

    The Ogun Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said on Wednesday that two persons died in a tanker explosion on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

    The Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Ahmed Umar, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota, Ogun, that the accident occurred at about 6.05 a.m. near CDK Company.

    Umar explained that tanker, with no registration number and laden with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), was inbound Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when it exploded some few kilometers after the Sagamu interchange.

    The Sector Commander said that eight male adults, three vehicles and a Bajaj motorcycle, were involved in the unfortunate incident.

    Umar said that two persons died, while six other persons came out unhurt from the accident.

    “The corpses of the dead have been deposited at Idera Morgue, Sagamu,” he said.

    The FRSC boss blamed the accident on excessive speeding on part of one of the truck drivers.

    He said that the inferno had been put off by fire fighters and traffic has also been diverted to ease the free flow of traffic.

    Umar implored motorists to cooperate with the FRSC personnel and other sister agencies to reduce the time being spent in the gridlocks.

    He further enjoined motorists to drive cautiously and adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations.
