They both attributed the deplorable condition of the roads to activities of tank farms in the area.

Egoh stated that he personally felt ashamed about the insensitivity and neglect by the present administration to the plight of the people, pointing to bad road, poor electricity supply, poor education, lopsided appointment and fighting against corruption, increase in the activities of Boko Haram and killing, increase in the country debt, granting of amnesty to those that defected to APC regardless of billion of Naira/Dollars they stole.

According to Agbaje the purpose of the town hall meeting was not for rally, but to enable stakeholders to present bordering issues for inclusion in his plan.

After listening to stakeholders submission, Agbaje responded that issues raised by Egoh and some of the questions raised had been budgeted for, but that for corruption that had eaten deep into the system, such allocation cannot be accounted for.

He made a reference to Alhaji Lateef Jakande achievements within a period of four years which he said is worthy of emulation.

Agbaje promised some key points agenda as his major priority to ameliorate the suffering of the people if elected as the Governor of Lagos State.

By Kehinde Ajose and Ediri Oyibo

A domestic worker and her plumber boyfriend have been apprehended and handed over to men of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), after preliminary investigations revealed that they were involved in alleged kidnap of 15-year-old Bella which they reportedly intended to use for money rituals.

TheNewsGuru (TNG) gathered that the domestic worker known as Tope [Surname withheld] and her plumber boyfriend, Sunday [Surname withheld] allegedly connived and kidnapped the victim, Bella on New Year Day.

17-year-old Tope said she carried out the dastard act with 24-year-old Sunday, who is a plumber to Bella’s guardian, because he had promised her marriage, TNG gathered.

Tope during interrogation said: “Sunday, my boyfriend called me on phone on the 30th of December 2018, saying he wants to be rich and that he is tired of wallowing in poverty”.

Sunday and Tope all loved up

She further said: “I asked him how he intends to become rich, knowing that he is a plumber”.

“He then said he will do what his mates are doing to get money.

“I then asked him if he wants to go into money rituals, but he said nothing,” Tope stated.

“Thereafter, he convinced me that once he becomes rich, he is going to marry me.

“He called me very early on the 1st of January to bring Bella outside the gate of our house, which I did,” she added.

While explaining how she got Bella to Sunday, Tope said, “I woke Bella up and I took her outside in the guise of going to sweep the entrance of the house.

“She succumbed and I left her outside with hope that Sunday would come to pick her.

“I don’t know if Sunday came to pick her himself or if he sent someone to pick her”.

In a chat with TNG, Bella’s guardian, whom Tope is working for, speaking on the incident, said that when Bella could not be found, they were compelled to question Tope, after discovering there had been communication between the plumber and her before and on the day of Bella’s disappearance.

The guardian who reside in the Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos state said they had woken up with high hopes on the 1st of January 2019, getting set for their morning devotion when they found Bella was missing.

“We had to beckon on Tope to go upstairs to call Bella for the morning devotion.

“Amazingly, she wasn’t found and that was how she became missing for 3 days,” the guardian narrated.

“She didn’t even confess until after Bella came back. When Bella came back, she was shocked. She was even crying.

“I was thinking she was shocked that she has seen her, but later I realize that the shock was not about that.

“It was about the fact that everything has been exposed,” he further stated.

TNG gathered that Bella was miraculously found in the neighbourhood January 3rd looking shabby, without footwear.

However, when Bella was questioned by her guardian about her disappearance in the night of her return, she could not recall anything, and then lost consciousness.

“She cannot remember anything,” family sources who preferred anonymity told TNG.

According to the guardian, she was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment, where she is said to be recuperating.

After hearing Tope’s confession, the guardian reported the case to the police in Festac town.

“The case is still there at the Festac police station,” the guardian said.

The guardian revealed that the police is also following up on one Alfa that Sunday took Bella to for ritual purpose.

He said the police saw communication between Sunday and the Alfa, but that when Sunday was interrogated, he denied he doesn’t know anyone like that.

However, Sunday later agreed he knows the Alfa, whom he took Bella to for the ritual purpose.

“The police are saying that Tope is just 17, a juvenile, therefore, should be released on administrative bail.

“I have to call the DPO and told him I don’t understand what his men are saying, that they want to release a kidnap suspect on a weekend on administrative bail on age grounds without proper investigation of the case,” he said.

When contacted, the DPO, did not immediately pick TNG’s call nor returned our calls as at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the guardian told TNG that “Sunday could not say much because probably he has sworn to an oath not to reveal anything on the matter”.

“If we didn’t find this girl, today, it would have been a different story. If the girl didn’t come back or we didn’t see her, we will be running helter-skelter, she will be sitting down here eating, and be asking, “Have you found her?” You will think she is on our side.

“And more danger in it is that, if Sunday should finish with the rituals and the money comes, and Tope is still here, God forbid, he might want to eliminate Tope since she knows the secret.

“They will say, one got missing, another one died, this pastor, what is he doing with people’s children. So, I really thank God.

“We thank God that Bella is getting better at the hospital where she has been placed on admission,” the guardian stated.

A meeting, which was held in closed-door between the vice president and the leader with his council, lasted for about 45 minutes.

Addressing newsmen, the Treasurer of Arewa Community in Agege, Alhaji Abdulkareem Abubakar, said the members felt happy that the vice president decided to pay the leader of Arewa Community a visit.

He said they would vote massively for All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019 elections because they wanted continuity of good governance in Lagos State and Nigeria at large.

  • 2019 election: APC Chieftain plays down debates after Obi, Osinbajo, others outing

2019 election: APC Chieftain plays down debates after Obi, Osinbajo, others outing

After the outing of Yemi Osinbajo, Peter Obi and other candidates in the vice presidential debates, immediate past Commissioner for Works in Lagos State has played down importance of the debates.

TheNewsGuru (TNG) reports the former commissioner, Ganiyu Johnson, on Sunday said the debates would not determine who would win the 2019 presidential elections in Nigeria.

Johnson, who recently resigned to run as the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives candidate for Oshodi Isolo II Federal Constituency, made the assertions at an interactive session with newsmen in Lagos.

He spoke against the backdrop of the debate between vice-presidential candidates of five political parties on Saturday and the upcoming Presidential debate scheduled for Jan.19.

It was organised by the Nigeria Election Debate Group (NEDG) and the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON).

Johnson argued that though, debates might have counted in other climes, in Nigeria majority of voters do not watch such debates, but vote based on benefits from governance.

He was, however, optimistic that that President Muhammadu Buhari would have a landslides victory at the polls.

Johnson said: “Debates are good for the enlightened, but you cannot use it to judge.

“Most of the viewers are not voters. You can make statistical judgment from it, but it doesn’t affect results or show voting patterns.

“How many market women or ordinary Nigerians tuned in for the debate?

“The elites who did are the ones crediting or discrediting the contestants based on their affiliations and these group of Nigerians hardly vote. Their criticisms and choices end on the internet.

“This is not to say that such debates are bad as it gives an idea of the performances of the present administration and an opportunity for the opposition parties to tell Nigerians who watch and the International community what they could have done differently.

“In this case, it was obvious that there is no alternative to the present administration, having watched the debate and realising that no other party has better plans than the APC.”

Johnson said that the achievements of the Buhari-led administration were being felt by Nigerians across the country and the administration have scored over 80 per cent in performance in less than four years.

“It is the elites that are exaggerating what is not. If you benchmark us today, you will see that our performance is so high in spite of the fact that we met the problems we are tackling.

“We met 16 years of rot, and we have tried to contain them and move the country forward. APC will take Nigeria, not only to the next level, but the desired level,” he said.

On the Wharf Apapa road gridlock, the former Commissioner of Works, said that the only solution was an alternative route.

“While there is need for expansion and serious rehabilitation of the road, only a dedicated route that will run from the port via Snake Island , through Mowe to the Lagos-Ibadan can resolve the gridlock.

“We have already identified this, but it is capital intensive. There must be financial backing to implement such projects,” he said.

Explaining why he resigned to run for election, GAJ said his people clamoured for it, saying “they want me as their representative based on my pedigree of having their interest at heart.

According to him, I also cater for them through my foundation which provides scholarships, support for widows and the elderly, among others.

Johnson said he would bring his experience to bear at the lower chamber of national assembly, if elected.

  • Police kill kidnap suspect, arrest one other in Lagos

Police kill kidnap suspect, arrest one other in Lagos

The Police in Lagos, on Sunday said they had gunned down a suspected kidnapper and arrested one other during exchange of gunfire with the syndicate.

The Lagos Police spokesman, CSP Chike Oti, confirmed the arrest in a statement, stressing that the incident happened at Agbowa area of Ikorodu, a suburb of Lagos State.

Oti said the two suspects belong to a kidnapping syndicate terrorizing some parts of the state, particularly Ikorodu area, stressing that two other suspects escaped with bullet wounds after exchanged of gunfire.

According to him, the Anti-kidnapping Squad of the State Command, acted on the directive of the Command’s Commissioner of Police, CP Edgal Imohimi, on Friday, at about 11 a.m.

He said that the command received two separate reports on Nov. 13 and 16 from one Suleiman Eniola Ajumobi and one Veronica Ewuru about the kidnapping of their daughter and husband respectively.

“While Suleiman Eniola Ajumobi reported that his 7-year-old daughter was kidnapped from his house in his presence.

“Veronica Ewuru stated that her husband, one DSP Patrick Ewuru, a police officer attached to Force Headquarters annex, Obalende, was kidnapped from their house in the night when the victim came out to check on the Power Generating Set that suddenly stopped working.

“The kidnappers demanded for ransom of N25 million from Mr Suleiman and N10 million from the family of DSP Patrick Ewuru but later settled for N500, 000 for both families.

“At this point, the CP directed operatives handling the matter to play along with the kidnappers in the interest of the victims, who were still in captivity,” he said.

The spokesman said that as soon as the release of the two victims was secured, the kidnappers hideout at Agbowa was busted, where one Festus Abama was killed and Austin Ebimiyenwei surrendered.

Oti said that the arrested suspect confessed to the crime, while the victim had identified them as those who kidnapped them.

He said that concerted effort was being made to arrest those on the run, while the suspect already in police custody would be charged to court.

  • Abuja is not Nigeria – Mideno Bayagbon

    By Mideno Bayagbon
The old man, who shared a ride with me from the airport into the city of Abuja, could not hide his confusion; infact, incredulity. He had never been to Abuja in all his 73 years as a native Nigerian. He has, however, seen a bit of the world, and worked in some of the cities in the south. He is educated.
At least he went to Ahmadu Bello University at a time there was nothing called Abuja in the national lexicon. “Is this Abuja?” he kept asking. And for the umpteenth time, i quietly tell him it is. Each time, he keeps repeating to himself: “Abuja is not Nigeria.”
At first i was confused. He was almost convinced, that by some unexplained chance he has landed in Dubai or Cape town in South Africa, the finest city he has ever been to, all his life. Abuja, however, holds him spell bound.
There is something delightfully enthralling about Abuja, a charm uncharacteristically Nigerian. It bewitches with its allure. it envelops one in a love grip. Abuja appears, on face value, to encapsulate the failed dreams of Nigeria’s many cities.
Before now, it was Lagos that entraps and refuses to vomit, to ever let you go. it kolobis you! You live in Lagos for a few years, settle in, and nowhere else seems to compare. You get sucked in by the hurly burly, the peculiar madness unique to Lagos, the city of dreams. From its slums, bank executives, governors, great athletes and musicians spring up and blossom.
Lagos was Nigeria’s God’s own state! The place where dreams are transformed to reality. The place where all who desired a good, fulfilling life found abode. It was and still is the economic capital of Nigeria. The main city, if you are not a politician, to make it big, if you have your head correctly screwed to your neck and shoulders and are not afraid to work hard and smart. Lagos is it; or, gradually becoming, was it.
Lagos is not it anymore, it seems. Lagos is becoming a dream killer; a frustrating city to live and work in. Lagos is stewing in refuse and in a hellish canister of traffic jams, in untold federal and state neglect. It is evolving into an Orwellian Animal Farm.
Slums are springing all over, sharing fences with once opulent mansions and estates; choking the comfort out of dreams. The soon to be third economy in Africa hides a deep seated, brutish, short and nasty existence. Yet it didn’t just happen over night. It had it coming.
Abuja is a breath of fresh air. A seeming oasis from the federated underdevelopment, nationwide. It is planned, ringed round with a cobweb of well paved roads. Abuja is green with a soothing touch of gardens. But nothing compares with the scenic mountains, or rocks if you like, which ring it round, undulating, inviting and captivating.
You come face to face with opulence that stuns in Abuja. The mansions are truly big and legion. The estates are tastefully expensive and mouth watering. There appears to be a conscious effort to distant Abuja from the Nigeria we all know and live in.
But beautiful Abuja is a lady whose luscious looks are fed with booties from our collective shrine. For Abuja hides its own contradictions, truth be told. Abuja is a civil service town. it is also the political headquarters of our thieftricians who wallow in unearned affluence and influence.
That perhaps explains why ninety percent of the opulent homes and estates belong to thieftricians of the political and civil service hue. In Abuja, corruption sits in eye popping mansions and estates.
So sad President Muhammadu Buhari, has become the ostrich, in his claimed fight against corruption. For in Abuja alone, he has his work cut out for him.
BUHARI DOES NOT NEED WAEC TO BE PRESIDENT
President Muhammadu Buhari and his handlers self inflicted a gory injury on the president recently when they caused an unnecessary attestation to be the most detested news of the week. And the national uproar, instigated by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the legion of dissatisfied Nigerians who cannot wait to see the back of the most nepotistic, divisive and incompetent president, was expected.
By that singular action of getting the head of the WAEC office in Nigeria to go to the villa to present the attestation, the president and his handlers, seem to be telling Nigerians that there is something still left unsaid, a truth yet untold.
People are beginning to say, that in good conscience the president cannot claim to have written the 1961 school certificate leaving examinations. If he did, they say, there sure must be record in the military to show that the president got a leave of absence to go write the examinations. if attestations from his then principal and others are still kept intact in the records of the military, why not record of the leave of absence?
But like most interested people know, legally, the WAEC certificate brouhaha, is an unnecessary distraction, a pull him down tactics learnt from the then hard fighting All Progressives Congress, APC, when the game was to do all and everything to demonise President Jonathan and make him unelectable. The tables have turned and the heat is on the major beneficiary of that strategy.
Nevertheless, constitutionally, given his well recorded military service record, and the various trainings he went through to qualify to be a major general in the Nigerian Army, it is a no issue, whether he presents a WAEC certificate or not. What should qualify him now is his record of service as president of Nigeria since 2015.
How has he impacted the lives of the average Nigerian? Are they better off now than they were four years ago? It is his ability or inability to meet up to expectations of Nigerians that should determine whether he should be voted in again or not. As for me and my household, our red card is ready.
