Prepare for pleasant surprises in 2017, Ambode tells Lagosians

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Sunday said there would be pleasant surprises in the state in 2017.

Ambode gave the assurance at the state’s annual thanksgiving service with the theme “Gratitude to God” held at the State House, Alausa.

He said that the surprises would be witnessed in every sector of the state.

We are determined, and God willing, we shall continue to achieve an all-inclusive progress and prosperity in the state.

We believe that as we are gathered this evening to praise Him and glorify His Holy name, new doors and windows of opportunities shall be opened for us as individuals, as a state and a nation.

Exactly a year ago, we were gathered here.

Recall as part of my wishes, I had stated that despite the bleak economic outlook predicted in many quarters, Lagos State will grow in leaps and bounds and be prosperous.

“No doubt, God has been faithful.

“As we covet greater prosperity for all of us here and the state this year, we are confident that our God will never fail us,” Ambode said.

He said that the occasion was to reaffirm faith and belief in God and His grace.
The governor said he believed that the occasion would also open new doors of opportunities.

He prayed that God would honour President Muhammadu Buhari as he leads the ship of the nation to its rightful destination.

Ambode, while thanking religious leaders for their steadfastness, urged them to continue to pray for the state and for the government.

“We appreciate your ceaseless prayers and wise counsel and pray that divine anointing shall never cease to flow in your lives,” Ambode said.

In his sermon, General Overseer (Worldwide) of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye, said for people to experience a new beginning, they must be willing to follow God completely.

  • Scarcity of Kerosene hits Lagos

    Scarcity of Kerosene hits Lagos

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) on Saturday lamented that there is no single drop of kerosene in any of the private depots and that of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in Lagos.

The National Chairman, Surface Tank Kerosene Peddlers (SUTAKEP) Branch of NUPENG, Mr. Rotimi Benjamin, disclosed this to the newsmen in Lagos.

Findings reveal that kerosene was last brought to the depots on December 27, 2016.

Benjamin, who is also the Vice-Chairman of NUPENG, Lagos Zonal Council, said that scarcity of Kerosene had made its price to go up, thus making it unaffordable for the masses.

He urged the Federal Government to come to the aid of the masses, who could not afford the price of cooking gas, by making kerosene available at the depots and filling stations.

He said, “It is very sad that things are going on this way, for the past two weeks, there is no supply of kerosene to any of the depots in Lagos.

The two refineries in the country have not been pumping kerosene to the depots.

This has forced the marketers that have the product in their stations to increase the price by over 60 per cent.

This is not the right time for our refineries to stop kerosene production, as everybody cannot depend on gas.

Common man cannot afford the price of cylinder and cooking gas. Our mothers in the village depend on kerosene, an essential household commodity, to cook.

Government should address the issue and alleviate the sufferings of the masses by making the product available.”

LASG okays funding for 281 MSMEs

The Lagos State Government says it has so far approved funds for 281 micro-enterprises, of which 150 have received offer letters under the pilot scheme of its Employment Trust Fund (ETF).

Mr Akintunde Oyebode, the Executive Secretary of the ETF, made the remark on Friday in Lagos, at the presentation of offer letters to some of the beneficiaries.

According to Oyebode, the pilot scheme of the ETF seeks to support 1,000 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Oyebode said the distribution of the offer letters was in pursuit of government’s overall goal to support 100,000 MSMEs and create 300,000 and 600,000 indirect jobs by 2019.

He said that under the pilot scheme, beneficiaries would be given five per cent interest loans between N300, 000 and N500, 000 and are expected to repay within 12 months.

  • How Bez set Lagos ablaze on Christmas eve

The last time I saw Bez perform live was at The Future Awards nominee’s party held about eight years ago. He was still trying to break into the industry then. After that night’s performance, I knew there was something magical about this dude and that he was wired for the top.

Fast forward to 2016, Bez has come full circle, making melodious timeless music. He was the first African artiste to world premiere his music video on BET and the first Nigerian artist to do a solo show at the iTunes store in Soho, New York.

On the 24th of December 2016, I set out to experience the Bez magic at his Bez Live concert held at Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island Lagos.

The show kicked off with Sir Dauda performing some of his songs like Kalakuta. I first heard Sir Dauda in the song he collaborated with Aramide on, titled Funmi Lowo. He gave a believable performance. Thereafter, John Drille animated the crowd with his soulful performance of My beautiful love, Dear Future Wife and other songs that got the fans cheering him on.

The beautiful Falana showed great delivery performing with her signature Cajón drum. The gifted soul artiste took the audience on a voyage of harmonious sounds. The high point of her performance was when she did a medley of some of Bez’s song ending with the phrase ‘Happy Bez day’.

    The Bez Moment

Bez came on stage like he owned the moment. He was dressed in an all-white ensemble, armed with his artistic guitar and ready to thrill the audience.

His performance was marred by a series of technical glitches that almost made him lose the attention of the audience. One thing Bez did well was to be in control, despite the hitches. He treated the audience to a freestyle that was welcomed by the audience. The show went on a brief break as a result of the technical glitches, it later resumed with better clarity and technical coordination.

Bez mounted the stage this time with the hunger to make the audience get value for their time and money. He performed the hit single, Zuciya Daya alongside Kaline. Cobhams Asuquo, Timi Dakolo and Simi also joined Bez on stage with their unique vocal prowess.

From his interaction and bonding with the audience , Bez became a story teller that night telling tales of love, sadness, joy and pain with his poignant voice .

Bez is not an everyday Nigerian artiste, he does music on his own terms and stays on his own lane . He isn’t everywhere, but his value lies in that depth that emanates from not just his lyrics but from his soulful sound
