Lagos: If Seyi Tinubu decides to run, I’ll campaign for him – VeryDarkMan

Social media analyst Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan has said he’s willing to campaign for Seyi Tinubu if he decides to contest the governorship race in Lagos.

Recall that Seyi Tinubu who is the son of Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu was endorsed by the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders in Owerri, Imo State, suggesting that Seyi would be welcomed to run for governor in Osun or Imo states, where his family is reportedly from.

Otse, also referred to as VDM advocates for the active participation of Nigerian youths in politics, cautioned that while he typically distances himself from the political sphere, he would defy this stance for Seyi.

“If Seyi Tinubu decides to run for governorship, I’ll campaign for him. Though I don’t involve myself in politics, I’ll do it because of him,” VDM said in a video shared via his Instagram page.

“Based on my calculation, Seyi Tinubu is a bridge to achieving something I believe will make Nigeria work,” he added.

“I’ve been studying Seyi Tinubu’s pattern; he seems to have his father’s political mentality,” VDM said.

VDM further stated that: “The problem is these older men know that if Seyi Tinubu becomes governor, they’ll be kicked out of power. They’ve seen the traits of his father in him, so it’ll be a problem,”

“So, if he decides, which I believe won’t work, especially when his father is in office, it might be hard for him to become governor.”

In November 2024, the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party declared that citizens would resist any attempts to impose Seyi as the next governor of the state.

Poll: We didn’t ask LG chairmen seeking re-election to resign – Lagos APC

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has denied issuing any directive to incumbent local government chairmen, seeking reelection, to resign ahead of the 2025 council poll.

The APC Spokesperson, Mr Seye Oladejo, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday evening, said that the purported directive was fake news to mislead the public and party members.

“Our attention has been drawn to a false directive purportedly issued by the Lagos State Chairman of APC, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, to incumbent Council Chairmen, who intend to seek re-election to resig from  their offices.

“We want to make it abundantly clear that there is  no iota of truth in the publication, as it was twisted to suit the interest of the publisher,” Oladejo said.

He said that on the contrary, the directive issued was to APC Local Government Party Chairmen seeking elective offices during the forth-coming elections to resign their positions, as they could not be umpires and contestants at the same time.

“The local government party chairmen, who double as aspirants in the coming elections, for emphasis, will be required to resign their current positions when the guidelines are released.

“We wish to enjoin party members and the general public to refrain from peddling misleading information that can heat up the polity,” Oladejo said.

He said that the party was awaiting the electoral guidelines from the newly reconstituted Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).

The spokesperson said that the party members should all continue to promote activities that would engender party cohesion and understanding.
