Newcastle would suit Frank Lampard – Giroud

AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud says Frank Lampard would be a success at Newcastle United.

Giroud’s former Chelsea manager is being linked with Steve Bruce’s job at Newcastle following the club’s takeover.

He told talkSPORT: “I talked to him a little bit last year.

“I think he’s looking forward to a good challenge to come back as a manager. It’s a good option definitely for him.

“I think Newcastle is a big team in the Prem and it’s a good challenge for him to bounce back and show his quality.”

Lampard has been out of football since his sacking by Chelsea in January.

Tuchel believes in me, Lampard made life difficult – Christensen

Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen has revealed that German tactician, Thomas Tuchel truly believes in him.

The Dane fell out of favour under previous manager Frank Lampard.

But Christensen, 24, has become an important player for Tuchel and has now started talks on extending his contract with the Blues.

“I know Thomas Tuchel believes in me,” he told Ekstra Bladet. “I have also played a big role since he came.

“I had a very difficult period under [Frank] Lampard, shortly before he was fired. Now luckily it’s going the right way for me. Things can go fast in this world.

“The most important thing is just that I have never given up.”

I urged Chelsea not to sack Lampard – Tuchel

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel admits he urged the club not to sack Frank Lampard.

Tuchel replaced Lampard in January and would go onto lead Chelsea to victory in the Champions League final.

Recalling Chelsea’s first contact, he told Sky Sports: “I actually said to the board: ‘Are you sure about this? Because they will not like you for it. Maybe he deserves more time’. When I think of Chelsea, I think of Frank Lampard, John Terry, Petr Cech and Didier Drogba.

“I think of Lampard as the first because he is the epitome of everything Chelsea is: hard work, aggressive players, great leaders, but at the same time a normal guy on the pitch and a huge team player. A true, true legend.

“But I understood that the decision was more or less made. It was take it or not for me. Then I just hoped that I would get a fair chance with the players, because when you step in, not all 20-22 players are happy.

“You can not expect everyone to be happy that the coach leaves. Especially not because they had a good Champions League group game, good results, good performances and sometimes they were simply just unlucky from the data we saw.

Frank Lampard’s possible next club revealed

Former Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, is set to become the manager of English club, Swansea.

According to talkSPORT, Lampard has emerged among the favourites to become Swansea next new manager.

The Chelsea legend tops the list for the Swansea job alongside Eddie Howe.

Others have also been linked for the Swansea job such as John Terry, Neil Lennon, Alex Neil, Paul Warne, Gareth Ainsworth and Tony Pulis.

Swansea are currently on the hunt for a new manager after the departure of Steve Cooper, 41.

Cooper guided Swansea to the Championship play-off final in May this year.

But Swansea, however, missed out on promotion to the Premier League to Brentford.

Cooper was linked with a host of jobs earlier this summer

  • The only problem I had with Kante, Lampard reveals

The only problem I had with Kante, Lampard reveals

Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has spoken about the only issue he had with N’Golo Kante.

The French midfielder has shown his quality over the past few months, lifting Chelsea to the Champions League title and starring for his nation at Euro 2020.

Lampard, who managed Kante at Chelsea before his sacking in the New Year, spoke about the 30-year-old all action midfielder while on pundit duty.

“When I arrived at Chelsea he’d been off the back of playing so regularly for a few seasons because everyone relies on him so much, he’d had an injury that took him into my first season, we missed him a lot,” Lampard told BBC Sport.

“You seriously miss N’Golo in big games because he’s a big-game player. Nobody will want to play against him because of the attributes he’s got.

“In those big games, finals, tournament football, players like N’Golo are just priceless.

“The main reason why he’s so good that he’s the best in the world at being a destructor. When I say destructor I’m talking about winning the ball back. To win the ball back with his anticipation, having the speed to get tight and close distances, his main attribute for me is destruction, leaving areas to win balls back.

“An old-fashioned holding midfield player you’d say would sit in front of the back four, Makelele did it years ago for Chelsea so well.

“But he has so much more to his game. When you see the distances he closes to get in front of people, that acceleration and speed, that is something special to him, it’s very unique.

“I got asked it a lot [about playing him as a strict defensive midfielder], my feeling was that he had so many attributes that were more than just that, I was holding him back by saying, ‘please just sit there’

“You have to allow N’Golo to travel with the ball, he can find passes I think people don’t give him credit for, his close control in tight areas is fantastic as well.

“He can do multiple jobs at the same time. He makes people around him better, he helps everybody.

“He’s exactly how you’d expect from the outside, nothing’s an act, he’s very humble, very quiet, he doesn’t want loads of conversation.

“The problem I found with him more than anything was trying to hold him back in training because every day you train and you let him off the leash in an opposed session he does that, and you have to try to pull him back because he can just put that output into anything he does.

“He’s incredible, he’s exactly what you see from the outside.”

  • Mount didn’t need me to make it at Chelsea – Lampard

Mount didn’t need me to make it at Chelsea – Lampard

Frank Lampard insists Mason Mount would’ve made it at Chelsea without him.

Lampard gave Mount his break at Chelsea before his sacking in January.

He told the Daily Mail: “I’m positive he would have made it. Mason is different. It’s not just talent – it’s work ethic and desire. He is a tough kid.

“Whether he would have come through, played 50-plus games last season and really accelerated his improvement which has seen him become one of the best players in the Premier League, I’m not sure.

“It would have been easy for me to send Mason on loan. That pathway can work. But I decided that Mason needed backing and was ready to play at the top level.”

Lampard ‘loved’ statement from Abramovich after sacking

Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard admits he was happy at reading the statement club owner Roman Abramovich released after Lampard’s sacking.

The Blues parted company with Lampard midway through this season, replacing him with German manager Thomas Tuchel.

While Abramovich typically remains quiet following manager sackings, he released a statement thanking Lampard for his services to the club.

Lampard said about the statement to the Daily Mail: “I loved that. I could never sit here and say I have anything but appreciation for what he did for my career.

“I was disappointed because I felt we could change things. I saw games coming up as opportunities to get points.

“Your pride takes a hit. There is no doubt about it. That’s human. But with reflection, I would have been absolutely naive to think it would be any different for myself than it had been for managers in the past.

“History says Chelsea make changes and sometimes they have real success off the back of it. It was never for me to go against their model. I have full appreciation to Roman for the opportunity. I can only look forward.”

  • Tuchel’s team falling back into Lampard ways – Ashley Cole

Tuchel’s team falling back into Lampard ways – Ashley Cole

Chelsea legend Ashley Cole fears they’ve fallen back into bad habits after their FA Cup final defeat to Leicester City.

Youri Tielemans’ long-range strike earned the Foxes a 1-0 win over Chelsea, with Brendan Rodgers’ side winning the competition for the first time in their history.

Speaking on BBC Match of the Day after the game, Cole claimed that Chelsea’s recent performances under Thomas Tuchel have “felt the same” as some of their displays under Frank Lampard.

“Chelsea have three cup finals now basically, if they want to finish in the top four and win the Champions League,” Cole said.

“They have got to pick themselves up and go again. They can’t feel sorry for themselves.

“Is it the same team as Frank Lampard’s?

“When Frank was here they controlled and dominated games but couldn’t finish it off.

“The last couple of weeks it has felt the same.”

  • Chelsea job was too big for Lampard – Jorginho

Chelsea job was too big for Lampard – Jorginho

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho says the Blues job was too big for former manager Frank Lampard.

The midfielder believes Lampard “skipped” some steps that he “needed” to succeed with such a prolific team.

He told ESPN: “Look, I’ll be very honest with you about Lampard. I believe that because he is a legend of the club, I believe that he skipped some steps that you need to learn to reach a great team.

“He arrived at the club where he is a legend, without having experience with other teams.

“I think he arrived too early, skipped a few steps and was not ready for a job at that level, honestly.”

  • Chelsea midfielder aims dig at Lampard’s style of football

Chelsea midfielder aims dig at Lampard’s style of football

Jorginho aimed a thinly-veiled dig at Frank Lampard as he claimed he is far more suited to Chelsea’s superior play style under new manager Thomas Tuchel.

Jorginho was in and out of the team under Lampard and was heavily linked with a move to Juventus last summer.

Chelsea were far from being direct during the reign of a club legend, but they were prepared to go from back to front quickly when required.

The Italy international told Chelsea’s official website: “The coach wants us having control of the game, playing from behind, even when the pressure comes.

“So, for me, it’s a good way to play football that I like and enjoy, and I think it’s better for my characteristics than playing long balls, and second balls.

“When it’s Kova [Mateo Kovacic], his style is to play short, to come, so I know if he wants to play one-two or when he wants some space to move forward and to dribble.

“So, I just try to help him, either give him the space, or come over to help him and give him an option – whatever he needs to get out of the situation.

“With Kante, it’s kind of the same. When you play with your mates, you need to understand each other, and understand their characteristics as well. So, I know that Kante has big power, so I tell him when he can turn.

“With Kante, it’s more about talking: ‘Turn!’ ‘Man on!’ or talking so he knows I’m there for the short pass. So, I just try to give him an option to do a one-two and get out.

“Oh yes, big brains [Kante and Kovacic have big brains]. They have more legs than me, though!”
