  • EPL: Solskjaer blasts Chelsea website and Lampard

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was furious with his side not getting a penalty against Chelsea.

United played out a tame 0-0 draw with Thomas Tuchel’s men at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Neither team created a clear cut chance to score, but United could have been awarded a penalty when Callum Hudson-Odoi handled the ball in the penalty box in the first half.

Asked if they should have gotten a penalty, Solskjaer told Sky Sports: “Yep. 100 per cent.

“When they stop it and [Attwell] walks across. From here you can see it’s handball, they’re shouting handball against our player. It’s taken two points away from us.

“I can’t say, because that’s not gonna be good for him. I didn’t say it, I don’t want to cause controversy. It’s not right is it.

“It’s all this outside influences, VAR talk before the game on Harry, cheeky when they put that on the website [article on Chelsea’s official website]. That’s influencing referees.

“You can read what they’re saying about Harry Maguire and putting pressure on referees to give penalties against us.

“We’ve seen there was a manager, was it Frank [Lampard], that started it. Loads of talk about us getting penalties when there’s no doubt, and of course today we should’ve had a penalty.”

Azpilicueta opens up on Chelsea future, Lampard sacking

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta says he’s happy at Stamford Bridge.

The Spain international insists he’s settled in London and with his role at Chelsea.

He told Mundo Deportivo, “I am very happy at Chelsea. I don’t like to look much further. I enjoy the moment, I have the ambition to leave the club as high as I can and I am going to train with the hope of continuing to do important things. Hopefully it lasts a long time.”

On the dismissal of former manager Frank Lampard, Azpilicueta also said: “The results just weren’t good. Frank has been a myth as a footballer, I was lucky enough to share a dressing room with him and after he trained me, but (Roman) Abramovich and his executive were the ones who decided to change course.

“The dressing room is responsible to the extent that we did not earn enough, but nothing more.”

Lampard sacking most ruthless of Abramovich era – Cole

Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole says Frank Lampard’s sacking was the most ruthless of the Roman Abramovich era.

Thomas Tuchel was appointed as manager on Tuesday, just 24 hours after Cole’s former team-mate was shown the door.

Cole told Coral: “The sacking of Frank is the harshest of all the Chelsea managers which have been dismissed.

“He has not had a bad spell in 18 months. I think it’s a mistake letting him go. Time will tell if I am right though.

“I was at Chelsea for seven years and that seems to be the culture of the club. They have gone through managers very quickly.

“Roman and his team will argue that since he took ownership, no club has won more trophies than Chelsea, and he is right there.

“Logic tells you that you need stability. I thought Frank had that from the outside.

“Let’s not forget he was bringing through the likes of Reece James, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Tammy Abraham. Chelsea players through and through.

“They possibly over-achieved last year. When you are blooding through that many young players, it is not easy. They finished well in the league and got to the FA Cup final.”

  • Jurgen Klopp slams Abramovich for Lampard sacking

Jurgen Klopp slams Abramovich for Lampard sacking

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp took aim at Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich today over the sacking of Frank Lampard.

Lampard was shown the door on Monday with the Blues ninth in the Premier League, and was swiftly replaced by Thomas Tuchel.

Klopp said on Wednesday: “Obviously two things happened, Frank Lampard lost his job and that’s really a tough one to be honest.

“Chelsea did an incredible job in the market and things like this need time, it’s normal. It’s really harsh to make the decision that early but obviously Mr Abramovich gives you chances and money but isn’t the most patient in the world.

“I really feel for Frank because he’s a young, talented manager but it’s a hard one if it’s your club. The story is over now and he can go everywhere and be fresh without history.

“For Tuchel, unfortunately a really good manager who I respect a lot! This Chelsea squad is a present eh, and I am sure Thomas sees it like that.”

Klopp did not have any advice for his countryman, but suggested that he will find it hard to please the owner as the 13th manager he has appointed in 18 years.

“I don’t have his actual number so I can’t text him but no advice necessary from my side,” he continued.

“I have been lucky with my clubs, Mainz everyone wanted to do well, same at Dortmund and same at Liverpool. Why did I get time? Directors and owners thought we were doing the right thing.

“How many coaches did Chelsea have in the last 15 years? There you are successful or out, that’s the mantra.

“I have nothing to do with that but I say plenty of times I was lucky with the clubs I have had. For Frank, everything will be fine. The football people out there, if they saw what Chelsea played last year, they had a clear plan.

“He’s a young manager and did a lot of really good stuff. He will be back soon and he will get more time.”

  • Harry Redknapp slams Werner after Chelsea sack Lampard

Harry Redknapp slams Werner after Chelsea sack Lampard

Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp felt his nephew Frank Lampard deserved more time to turn around Chelsea’s form.

Lampard was sacked on Monday morning following a run of five defeats from eight Premier League games.

Redknapp told talkSPORT: “They’ve been on a bad little run, but so has everybody. This is a different time for football, it is almost a different game with no fans.

“Jurgen Klopp’s going through a bad spell. Does that suddenly make him a bad manager? He will come out of it again as we all know, but you need time. You will have your ups and downs.

“Alex Ferguson survived by the skin of his teeth when the board looked like they would sack him after 18 months or two years at Old Trafford where he hadn’t won anything.

“Suddenly he goes on to arguably be the greatest manager we’ve ever seen. You need time and unfortunately at Chelsea it seems a club where they don’t seem to give time.”

Redknapp questioned if the players brought in during the transfer window were wanted by Lampard and criticised the form of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.

“You are only as good as your players at the end of the day and the two Germans have been massive disappointments, massive,” the 73-year-old said.

“I am not even sure, especially the centre forward, if he is cut out for English football. He looks to me like the physical side is too much for him. I don’t know who has brought them in.

“Suddenly it is, ‘We have spent £200million, there you are Frank go get on with it’, and that is football management these days.”

Abramovich messages Lampard: Pays first tribute to all sacked Chelsea managers

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has said Frank Lampard’s status as the club legend will “remain undiminished” after the Blues sacked their manager on Monday.

Abramovich, who has never previously released a statement after axing a manager, paid tribute to a club legend in the wake of his departure, insisting that, although a tough decision had to be taken, he still enjoys the full respect of the board.

“This was a very difficult decision for the club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost respect for him,” the Russian billionaire’s statement on Chelsea’s official website reads.

“He is a man of great integrity and has the highest of work ethics. However, under current circumstances, we believe it is best to change managers.

“On behalf of everyone at the club, the board and personally, I would like to thank Frank for his work as head coach and wish him every success in the future.

“He is an important icon of this great club and his status here remains undiminished. He will always be warmly welcomed back at Stamford Bridge.”

Frank Lampard speaks after Chelsea sacking

Frank Lampard has released a statement after being sacked by Chelsea on Monday.

The club’s all-time top goalscorer was dismissed on Monday morning, just a day after leading the Blues to a 3-1 FA Cup win over Luton.

But recent results have left Chelsea ninth in the Premier League, with a number of big summer signings – including Timo Werner – underperforming.

Lampard wrote: “It has been a huge privilege and an honour to manage Chelsea, a club that has been a big part of my life for so long.

“Firstly, I would like to thank the fans for the incredible support that I have received over the last 18 months I hope they know what that means to me.

“When I took on this role I understood the challenges that lay ahead in a difficult lime for the football club.

“I am proud of the achievements that we made, and I am proud of the academy players that have made their step into the first team and performed so well. They are the future of the club.

“I am disappointed not to have had the time this season to take the club forward and bring them to the next level.

“I want to thank Mr Abramovich, the board, the players, my coaching team and everyone at the club for their hard work and dedication, especially in these unprecedented and challenging times.

“I wish the team and the club every success for the future.”

Thiago Silva and Tammy Abraham were among the first players from Chelsea to thank Frank Lampard after his sacking as manager today.

Silva took to Instagram to thank Lampard for his help during their short stint together.

“I would like to thank you for everything you and your committee have done for me since the day I arrived,” Silva wrote.

“As I told you, it seemed like we had been together for 10 years!! Thank you for everything legend.”

Silva was one of Chelsea’s arrivals in a summer spend of over £200million under Lampard.

Tammy Abraham, who was Lampard’s main striker in his first season in charge, posted a picture of them together, writing: “A role model, a mentor & a great manager. Thank you Gaffer.”

Reactions: Lampard trends number 1 on social media after sudden sack as Chelsea coach, successor underway

Frank Lampard has been sacked from his role as Chelsea manager and will be replaced by former Paris Saint-Germain coach Thomas Tuchel.

Chelsea fans and twitter users has reacted to the latest development at the Premier League club after the sacking of Lampard.

    See reactions:

Chelsea desperately need to get their passing philosophy back, they’ve been struggling since Sarri left. I’d give Pepe Mel a chance, West Brom played some brilliant football under him.

Fully expect Tuchel to turn up to get a tune out of Havertz and Werner. Rodgers would be a sensible choice but there is always the cloud of bottling it in the grasp of success. Would be happy with Hasenhuttl and Ings rocking up.

  • BREAKING: Frank Lampard to be sacked by Chelsea

BREAKING: Frank Lampard to be sacked by Chelsea

Frank Lampard is set be sacked by Chelsea less than 24 hours after the club’s FA Cup victory over Luton Town, The Telegraph reports.

Confirmation could come as soon as today after Chelsea players were told not to report to the training ground until this afternoon.

Chelsea are currently on a poor run of form in the Premier League, losing five of their last eight games and well off the pace, struggling to get into the top four.

Lampard had not sought any reassurances over his future, and was confident he could find a solution to Chelsea’s current predicament.

Now 18 months into the three-year contract he was given when he was appointed in the summer of 2019, Lampard overachieved in his first season in charge – during which the club did not sign any players – by guiding the club to Champions League qualification and the final of the FA Cup.

It is believed that Julian Nagelsmann would be among Chelsea’s top targets to replace Lampard, but it appears unlikely that the German would leave RB Leipzig before the summer.

That would leave Abramovich with the task of either trying to find an interim coach or hiring an out-of-work coach such as former Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel or Max Allegri.

Chelsea have been warned off Tuchel in the past, following his run-ins with his previous employers, but it is not clear whether that would be held against the 47-year-old now.
