I met with Pep Guardiola, but… – Laporta

Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta concedes a return for Pep Guardiola is now off.

Guardiola won two Champions League titles with Laporta during the latter’s previous time as Barca president.

There has been talk of Laporta trying to revive the partnership, but a new Manchester City contract signed by Guardiola last month has ended those hopes.

Laporta recently met Guardiola at a function in Spain and he revealed: “He came to see us and have a good time.

“I congratulated him on his renewal at City and I hope all is well for him because he is a friend.”

Laporta dismisses Neymar urging Messi to make PSG move

Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta insists he’s unconcerned over comments made by PSG star Neymar last night.

After victory at Champions League opponents Manchester United, Neymar declared he wanted to play again with former Barca teammate Lionel Messi, hinting he wants the Argentine to join him in Paris.

Neymar stated: “I would like to play with Messi again. This is what I want the most. I would let him play for me, there is no problem. I want to play with him again, for sure. We have to do it next season.”

In response, Laporta declared: “I’m not worried about his words. I have things to say but I will not say it so as not to destabilise the team. The team will go further, we must not destabilise the team. I know what can destabilise the team. I will not enter this match and will not give the names of the players who can come.

“It is normal that he says this, they are friends and have an established hierarchy between them. This relationship is normal. I hope Leo can wait and listen to the proposal of the new Barcelona president.”

If I was Xavi, I’d never join this Barcelona – Laporta

Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta has warned Xavi off a return to the Nou Camp.

Al Sadd coach revealed that he turned down the chance to succeed Ernesto Valverde as Barcelona boss in January.

Laporta, who is thought to be interested in running in the upcoming presidential elections at the Camp Nou, spoke out against current president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

“If I were Xavi, I’d never come with this board,” Laporta said.

Laporta also touched on the future of Lionel Messi, whose Barcelona contract expires in 2021.

“I hope that he’s there in 2021, but I’m scared that a bad decision from the board could cause an irreversible decision,” he said.
