    ‘I miss you’ — Lasisi Elenu tells former president Buhari amid hardship

    Popular Nigerian comedian, Lasisi Elenu, has taken to social media to express an unexpected nostalgia for former President Muhammadu Buhari.

    In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the comedian, whose real name is Nosa Afolabi, shared a voice note he recently sent to the former president.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) recalls that Buhari left office in May 2023, after serving as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023. His reign was known to be a tumultuous period in Nigeria’s history.

     He, however, was succeeded by President Bola Tinubu, who assumed office on May 29, 2023.

    Elenu in the voice note sent privately to the ex-president, was heard saying, “I miss you, sir”.

    Elenu, however, did not provide any context as to why he sent the message.

    Boss, how is work and the family? I am not sending you this message on behalf of anyone,” he said.

    “I think I owe it to myself and my family and to be honest, I never thought that I would be here doing this at this time.

    “First, I don’t even know how to say this. I honestly don’t know how to go about this. I feel like I am just trying my best to keep myself and be as respectful.

    “I miss you. I miss you, God. I miss you, God abeg, abeg. God help me, I miss you sir.”

    Psychologist Prof Richard Wiseman, from the University of Hertfordshire, says “finding the funny” is a “common way” of coping during the COVID-19 crisis.

    “For people staying at home to help curb the spread of Covid-19, watching a TV programme, a film or reading a book that they find funny is good “partly because it distracts you and also because it puts you in a good mood.

    “Laughter is contagious: you hear people laugh and you laugh as well.

    “In your household, if you find something funny, sit and watch that or tell jokes to each other. They don’t even have to be particularly funny – they are all good for promoting mood.”

    Speaking as a panellist at the Nigerian Entertainment Conference held on the 25th of April 2018, Lasisi shared his success secret. He added that he didn’t need anyone or godfather to become the brand that he is today.

    He said:” I didn’t have to go through a certain channel to become who I am. We are a new generation; new media has given someone like me hope.

    I didn’t have to have someone sign me to a record label. I saw an opportunity and I took it. Snapchat has been there for a while but being able to seize an opportunity gave me an edge over a lot of people out there. A lot still has to be done, understanding where the future is headed”.
