BREAKING: Guinness World Records denies Nigerians access to website

Currently, Nigerians are not able to access the website of Guinness World Records as the website has been configured to block traffic from the country.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports a visit to the website returns a “403 Error” page with a message boldly written, “The request could not be satisfied”.

The message on the website also contains the following information: “The Amazon CloudFront distribution is configured to block access from your country.

“We can’t connect to the server for this app or website at this time. There might be too much traffic or a configuration error. Try again later, or contact the app or website owner”.

However, a visit to the website using a virtual private network (VPN) went through.

TNG reports this is coming after Guinness World Records made a publication on the website with the title, “Nigerian chef Hilda Baci bids for longest cooking marathon with 100-hour kitchen stint”.

The publication posted by Vicki Newman quoted a Guinness World Records spokesperson as giving reasons why Hilda Baci was yet to be recognized as the record holder for longest cooking hour by an individual.

“We are aware of the record attempt and are looking forward to receiving the evidence for our Records Management Team to review, before we can confirm the record is official,” the spokesperson was quoted to have said.

Hilda began cooking on Thursday and continued through to Monday, reportedly whipping up 55 recipes and more than 100 meals in a whopping 100-hour stint.

She snapped up the record title for longest cooking marathon (individual) which currently belongs to Lata Tondon (India) with a time of 87 hr 45 min.

JUST IN: Guinness World Records delays recognition of Hilda Baci

Guinness World Records has acknowledged the “amazing record attempt” by Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci.

However, the people who monitor world records and put them in a big book once a year are yet to officially confirm the record.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Hilda Baci on Monday broke the previous Guinness World Record for the longest cooking time held by an individual.

The longest cooking time held by an individual had been 87 hours, 45 minutes, set by an Indian chef known as Lata Tondon.

After Hilda Baci surpassed the 87 hours, 45 minutes record, most fans and loved ones were expecting the Guinness World Records to announce on their official page that the Nigerian chef is now the new title holder.

However, Guinness World Records disclosed that they need to review all evidence to show if Hilda Baci complied with all the rules before officially confirming her record.

TNG reports Hilda Baci started her cooking for the record on Thursday at exactly 4 pm after she turned on her cooker. She is on her way to set a new record notwithstanding.

In a matter of few hours, Nigerian chef and entrepreneur, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, would have broken the Guinness World Record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual”.

Hilda Baci hit the 85-hour mark on Monday morning, with less than 3 hours remaining to set a new world record.

She started her cooking for the competition on Thursday at exactly 4 pm after she turned on her cooker.

She will be breaking the record initially set by Lata Tondon, an Indian chef who made the feat in 2019.

The event, which is taking place at Amore Gardens in Lekki, Lagos, is being live-streamed on YouTube, and several celebrities, including Nigerians who have defied rain physically cheering up the visibly tired chef.

As of Sunday, the chef had hit the three-day mark amid cheers from popular celebrities and politicians.

The cook-a-thon’s Instagram account, @hildabacicookathon revealed that the event is headline sponsored by GB Foods. Other sponsors include Arla Foods, BaigeWallet, Filmhouse, Jumbo, Uber and Woodscop

The Cookathon has garnered attention both online and at the physical venue where celebrities are trooping in to support the chef.

Nollywood actor, Charles Okocha; actress, Kate Henshaw; singer, Tiwa Savage; media personality, Enioluwa, and many others appeared at the event.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also visited the venue on Sunday to cheer up Baci.

Filmmaker, Kevin Adetiba, wrote on Twitter, “REALLY rooting for HILDA BACHI. Don’t know her personally, but her drive, ambition and resilience, inspire and motivate me IMMENSELY.

“Sending her prayers and the best vibes to PUSH THROUGH. She’s inspiring people she doesn’t even know. GO HILDA… YOU GOT THIS!!!”

Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, also lauded Baci for her “determination and focus.”

“The efforts being made by Hilda Effiong Bassey (Hilda Baci) to beat the current Guinness World Record for cooking for 4 days nonstop shows the true Nigerian spirit of hard work and resilience. I applaud her determination and focus on the goal, which is inspiring many Nigerian youths to live their dreams through hard work and dedication.

“I wish her well on this noble journey to pen her name in the golden book of history. -PO,” he tweeted on Sunday.

This is not the first time she is making giant strides in cooking competition, she participated in the maiden edition of the Jollof Face-off Competition in 2021 where she emerged winner with a sum of  grand prize of $5000.

Although it’s on record that there is no official  grand prize attached for breaking winning on Guinness Book of Records but the feat will open her up for endorsement opportunies from brands across the globe.
