Kelechi Iheanacho out for rest of the season

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho is set to miss a number of weeks for Leicester after picking up an injury against Leeds United.

The Foxes manager, Dean Smith announced the severity of the injury during Friday’s press conference.

“He’s got a tear in his adductor muscle,” Smith informed the media.

“He’s out for a number of weeks. I’m not going to rule him out for the rest of the season, but it’s going to be tough to get him back. Hopefully, we can.”

Iheanacho has scored two goals in his last three appearances for the former Premier League champions.

The 26-year-old played a key role in the equalising goal against Leeds United at Elland Road.

Smith admitted the Nigerian’s injury is a big blow for his side.

“It’s a blow. He came on at half-time against Man City and did ever so well. He played really well in the Wolves game as well. He scored the penalty and created chances,” he said.

“His all-round displays have been really good, so it’ll be a loss, but it’s an opportunity for others.”

Leicester City will face Everton in their next Premier League game on Monday.

  • Faes own goals earn Liverpool win over Leicester

Faes own goals earn Liverpool win over Leicester

Wout Faes scored two own goals as Liverpool came from behind to beat Leicester in their final Premier League game of 2022.

The Foxes made the ideal start when they took the lead after just four minutes as poor defending by the hosts allowed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to race through on goal before firing past Alisson.

Both sides had opportunities to score after that in an open and entertaining first half but Liverpool’s equaliser came in hugely fortuitous circumstances.

With seven minutes to go the break, Faes stuck out a boot to try and divert Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross behind but instead the ball looped over goalkeeper Danny Ward and into the back of the net.

It got worse for Faes and Leicester seconds before the break when the defender again managed to put the ball into the back of his own net, this time firing in after Darwin Nunez’s chipped shot had bounced back off the post.

It was the tonic Liverpool needed and they really should have put the game out of Leicester’s reach in the second half, with Mohamed Salah putting a decent chance wide of the post with only Ward to beat while Nunez – not for the first time in recent games – failed to make the most of a couple of decent opportunities.

In the end, Faes’ two own goals were enough to give Liverpool the victory that moves them to within two points of the top four.

Defeat for Leicester, meanwhile, means they remain 13th and four points above the relegation zone.

  • Why Arsenal pulled out to sign Youri Tielemans

Why Arsenal pulled out to sign Youri Tielemans

Arsenal pulled out of the transfer race for Youri Tielemans due to tactical reasons.

The Leicester City star was linked with a move to the Gunners and Manchester Untied all summer.

Despite only having a year left on his Leicester deal, the Belgian international is still at the club.

According to Give Me Sport, Arsenal prioritised a late bid for Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa over Tielemans.

This is because Arsenal ‘lost belief’ that Tielemans was the right fit for their team.

The north London club ultimately failed with three offers for Luiz.

Jesus hits double as Arsenal maintain 100% start

The impressive Gabriel Jesus scored his first Premier League goals for Arsenal as Mikel Arteta’s side beat Leicester City in an entertaining encounter at Emirates Stadium.

The Brazilian striker, signed from Manchester City in the summer, scored twice before the break and missed several chances for a hat-trick as well assisting his side’s other goals.

William Saliba’s own goal early in the second half gave Leicester hope, but Granit Xhaka struck just two minutes later to restore Arsenal’s two-goal lead.

James Maddison again reduced the arrears, only for Gabriel Martinelli to quickly made it 4-2 as the Gunners maintained their 100% start to the season.

Leicester were awarded a penalty before half-time when Jamie Vardy and Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale collided, but the decision was overturned by referee Darren England after consulting with the video assistant referee.

After scoring, Jesus was twice thwarted by Leicester keeper Danny Ward before half-time, and the 25-year-old also hit the side-netting from close range with 10 minutes of the game to go.

  • Boehly to break world-record for Leicester defender

Boehly to break world-record for Leicester defender

Chelsea are prepared to make a world record bid for Leicester City centre-back Wesley Fofana.

The Blues are desperate to give manager Thomas Tuchel another top-class centre-back before the transfer window shuts.

Todd Boehly has already spent £35m on Kalidou Koulibaly this summer as a centre-back but the new American owner is being made to pay more than double that for the 21-year-old target, with their first offer falling well short of Leicester’s valuation.

Fofana is very highly rated in the Premier League, and Leicester are adamant he is not for sale.

According to football.london, the Blues are ready to put in a bid that would make Fofana the most expensive defender in the world.

The 21-year-old is going to cost Chelsea a minimum of £85 million, if they are serious about securing his signature.

The previous record is also a sale by Leicester – the transfer that took Harry Maguire to Manchester United for £80 million in 2018.

EPL: Brentford fight back to draw at Leicester

Brentford produced a terrific fightback from 2-0 behind to secure a point against Leicester in a thrilling match at the King Power Stadium.

A header by Belgium defender Timothy Castagne opened the scoring for the Foxes, the only Premier League club not to have signed a player in the summer transfer window so far.

Leicester were the dominant side in the first half with Youri Tielemans hitting the post before Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall doubled the lead 25 seconds into the second half.

Brentford hit back when Ivan Toney scored from close range after a move that started when Leicester lost possession from a throw-in.

Toney wasted a great chance to equalise when he headed wide after Leicester’s Wesley Fofana nodded against the post at the other end.

But Brentford were not done as substitute Josh Dasilva struck an 86th-minute equaliser after cutting inside on to his left foot, starting the Bees’ second successive season in the top flight with a point.

  • Arsenal agree personal terms with Leicester midfielder

Arsenal agree personal terms with Leicester midfielder

Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans.

Earlier in the window, manager Arteta refused to be drawn on Belgian international Tielemans.

However, CBS says the Leicester man could be on the verge of a move to the capital.

Tielemans only has a year left on his contract and has agreed on terms with Arsenal.

There had been suggestions of a swap deal involving Tielemans and Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno. Leicester are reportedly interested in the German international, who is effectively third choice at the Emirates, but Leno’s preference for a London move makes Fulham the more likely destination.

  • Chelsea agree personal terms with Leicester defender

Chelsea agree personal terms with Leicester defender

Chelsea have agreed personal terms with Wesley Fofana of Leicester City.

The Blues made a step forward in their pursuit of a new centre-back.

According to French journalist Ignazio Genuardi, the London club are working hard to bring the 21-year-old to Stamford Bridge.

They have already sealed personal terms, but there is the small matter of agreeing a fee with Leicester.

The Foxes are loathe to lose Fofana so close to the new season, given their other centre-back options.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently stated that Chelsea do admire Fofana, but no deal is close.

Chelsea missed out on signing Jules Kounde and Presnal Kimpembe this summer.

  • Mikel Arteta places Leicester midfielder high on transfer list

Mikel Arteta places Leicester midfielder high on transfer list

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has placed Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans high on his transfer list.

The Mirror says Arteta, who signed a new three-year deal at the Emirates last week, wants to strengthen his midfield for what he hopes will be a first Champions League campaign for his club since 2017-18. And with Mohamed Elneny is out of contract this summer at Arsenal and doubts also surrounding Granit Xhaka’s future, Tielemans is firmly on his radar.

The Belgian will enter the final year of his contract with Leicester in July and the fact he is no closer to agreeing a new deal means there is a growing feeling within the East Midlands club that they will be best served cashing in on his services this summer.

Leicester are bracing themselves for offers, with Manchester United also linked. But if Arsenal can offer immediate Champions League football by finishing in the top four this season then they will be in the box seat to land the player who scored the winning goal in last season’s FA Cup final.

  • I’ll never forget what I gained from Mourinho – Leicester coach

I’ll never forget what I gained from Mourinho – Leicester coach

Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers has hailed Roma coach Jose Mourinho ahead of their Europa Conference League semifinal.

The Foxes welcome Roma for the first leg on Thursday.

It is Mourinho’s first game back in England since being sacked by Tottenham last year.

Rodgers, who worked with Mourinho at Chelsea, said: “He has nothing to prove to anyone. He will always be a winner. I cannot speak any higher of him. He is one of the greats of our generation.

“He had the X-Factor. There wasn’t one single thing. He was brilliant in so many aspects of the game. Detail orientated, man management of the players, his understanding of the tactical adaptation of the game, he had that special quality I was able to see.

“I have got nothing but admiration for him. I became a manager in my own right but I will never forget what I gained from him as a young coach. I studied him and watched him and at that time it was a really special period.”
