  • Why West Ham will be difficult for Leicester City – Iheanacho

Kelechi Iheanacho has predicted a ‘difficult’ encounter for Leicester City when they take on West Ham United on Wednesday.

Brendan Rodgers’ men have suffered back-to-back losses in their previous two fixtures, with their last league victory coming against Newcastle United on New Year’s Day.

West Ham, on their part, are also struggling to secure maximum points in the Premier League with their last win dating back to January 1 against Bournemouth, and they have picked up just a point in their last two matches.

Despite their recent poor run of results, Iheanacho thinks Wednesday’s game would be tough following David Moyes’ return to the London Stadium.

In the Premier League when there’s a change of manager you will see they are different from the previous one,” the Nigeria forward told LCFC TV.

“It’s always going to be difficult with a team that changed their manager, always going to be a difficult one.

“And in the Premier League this season every game is hard. It’s going to be a tough one because they’ve become stronger, they are just like a proper team now.

EFL: Iheanacho earns Leicester first-leg draw with Villa

Kelechi Iheanacho’s equaliser gave Leicester City a deserved draw to leave the Carabao Cup semi-final against Aston Villa delicately poised after an entertaining encounter at the King Power Stadium.

Substitute Iheanacho finished emphatically from Jamie Vardy’s pass with 16 minutes left to give The Foxes the reward their incessant second-half pressure merited to set up a tense second leg at Villa Park.

Villa, struggling with injuries after goalkeeper Tom Heaton and striker Wesley were ruled out for the season, defended with organisation and resilience to protect the lead given to them after 28 minutes when Frederic Guilbert stole in at the far post to meet Anwar El Ghazi’s cross.

Ezri Konsa’s header also struck the bar for Villa but Leicester applied most of the pressure with keeper Orjan Nyland saving twice from James Maddison and Vardy, who also shot just wide late on, before he was beaten by Iheanacho’s powerful strike from 12 yards.

The second leg at Villa Park takes place on Tuesday, 28 January.

  • EPL: Leicester lose ground at top with draw against Norwich

Leicester were dealt a huge blow in the Premier League title race as they were held to a draw by a battling Norwich at King Power Stadium.

The Foxes, who remain second, now lie 10 points behind league leaders Liverpool, following their hard-fought win over Watford in Saturday’s early game.

Norwich, who were impressive, deservedly took the lead when Teemu Pukki slotted home after being sent through by Emiliano Buendia.

But their lead only lasted 12 minutes as Leicester equalised when Jamie Vardy’s bullet header was turned into the net by Norwich keeper Tim Krul.

Both sides pressed for a winner in an entertaining second half, with Vardy twice going close, but neither side could find a way through.

The point sees Norwich close the gap on Aston Villa and Southampton, who play in Saturday’s late game, to three points but they remain 19th.

  • Liverpool must learn from Salzburg scare – Saido Mane

Liverpool must learn from Salzburg scare – Saido Mane

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane admits his side cannot afford to be less than 100 per cent against Leicester otherwise an in-form Jamie Vardy will take full advantage.

The Reds were uncharacteristically lax in allowing a three-goal lead slip against Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League before eventually prevailing 4-3 on Wednesday.

It was only the second time since losing to Real Madrid in the 2018 final that Liverpool had conceded more than two goals in a match and Mane said they have to be tighter at Anfield on Saturday.

“I think if we want to win we have to play better because we know Leicester, especially this season they are very strong and a very good team,” he said.

“For sure we are going to learn from it (the Salzburg game) and be ready for Saturday, which will be a massive game for us. It is a lesson for us to be on our toes in the next game.

“I think they started the season very well and are a very good team and if we want to beat them we have to be 100 per cent ready.”

EPL: Rashford penalty helps Man Utd beat Leicester

Manchester United returned to winning ways and ended Leicester’s unbeaten start to the season by edging to a Premier League victory in a pulsating contest at Old Trafford.

After thrashing Chelsea 4-0 on the opening day, United had failed to win any of their last three games but took all the points to inflict Leicester’s first defeat of the campaign.

Marcus Rashford scored the only goal from the penalty spot in the eighth minute after being tripped by Leicester defender Caglar Soyuncu.

Rashford could have got another in the second half, but his wonderful free-kick from 30 yards curled over the wall and onto the angle of crossbar and post.

Defender Harry Maguire, given a torrid reception by the Leicester supporters, came close to scoring against his old side but headed straight at Kasper Schmeichel.

Leicester grew into the contest with the lively James Maddison twice coming close and left-back Ben Chilwell saw his dipping effort tipped over by David de Gea.

The result means United leapfrog their opponents into fourth place, while Leicester drop down to fifth.

  • Transfer: Man Utd bid £70m for Leicester's Maguire

Transfer: Man Utd bid £70m for Leicester's Maguire

Manchester United have made a £70m bid for Leicester defender Harry Maguire.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to sign an experienced central defender and Maguire also has the leadership qualities he is looking for.
It is understood that Leicester’s board have been made aware of Maguire’s wishes and that the 26-year-old would welcome the chance to step up to what he regards as a higher level.
However, £70m would also be short of Leicester’s valuation of the player.
The England defender, who has also attracted interest from Premier League champions Manchester City, signed a five-year contract last September and manager Brendan Rodgers made it clear at the end of the season he feels Maguire can develop even more if he remains at the club.
Maguire, who is currently on holiday, has been concerned at the prospect of Leicester pricing him out of a move away from the King Power Stadium.
United have already signed youngsters Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Swansea and Crystal Palace respectively. The addition of Maguire would take their summer spending to almost £140m.
United have had a long-standing interest in Maguire but they backed away from a deal 12 months ago because they felt the £70m that would be needed for a transfer to be concluded was too high.
Leicester would be loathe to lose one of their key men ahead of a campaign that, with no European football to distract them, offers genuine hopes of marking Rodgers’ first full season as manager with a top-six finish.

  • EPL: Man Utd still want Leicester’s Maguire

EPL: Man Utd still want Leicester’s Maguire

Manchester United are continuing to show interest in Leicester’s England defender Harry Maguire, even though the Foxes have no wish to sell the player.

United backed away from talks last summer as they felt the 26-year-old’s £70m price-tag was excessive.

However, with United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to bolster his central defensive options this summer, Maguire remains on the club’s radar.

Leicester are in a strong bargaining position though.

The defender signed a five-year contract last September and new manager Brendan Rodgers made it clear at the end of the season he feels Maguire can develop even more if he remains at the King Power.

The England centre-half is not the only defender United are keen on.

Solskjaer also retains an interest in Crystal Palace’s England Under-21 full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The 21-year-old was named Palace’s player of the year this season, the first full campaign of his senior career.

United would have to pay a fee well in excess of £40m if they were to try to push forward with a deal for the youngster.

EPL: Jamie Vardy brace dent Arsenal’s top-four hopes

Leicester inflicted a blow to Arsenal’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League with a dominant victory at the King Power Stadium.

The unmarked Youri Tielemans headed in a cross from James Maddison just before the hour mark, and Jamie Vardy scored twice late on with a header and a tap-in from close range.

Arsenal played almost an hour of the contest with 10 men after Ainsley Maitland-Niles was sent off.

A third successive Premier League defeat left the Gunners a point behind fourth-placed Chelsea, who face Manchester United at Old Trafford at 16.30 BST on Sunday.

Leicester still have a slim chance of finishing seventh – they are five points behind Wolves – which could earn a Europa League place depending on the outcome of the FA Cup final.

  • Leicester sack Claude Puel as manager

Claude Puel has been sacked by Leicester after just 16 months in charge at the King Power Stadium.

The decision has been made in the wake of a 4-1 loss at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday, which leaves Leicester 12th in the Premier League, eight points above the relegation zone.

Puel has been under increasing pressure in recent weeks and Leicester have now gone six games without a victory.

A Leicester statement read: “The club would like to thank Claude for his efforts in leading the team during his 16 months in the role and wish him well in his future career.

“Assistant Manager Jacky Bonnevay also departs with the club’s best wishes.

“First-team coaches Mike Stowell and Adam Sadler, supported by the club’s established backroom staff, will assume responsibility for the senior squad while the club begins the process of appointing a new manager.

“The Board will make no further comment until this process is complete.”

  • Leicester City to honour late owner with statue

Leicester City will erect a statue of late chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha at King Power Stadium following his death in a helicopter crash last month, BBC reports

Srivaddhanaprabha and four others were killed in the crash on 27 October.

His son Aiyawatt made the announcement in a souvenir programme for Saturday’s Premier League game with Burnley.

“We will never be able to repay what he did for us – for me as his son, us as his family, everyone connected to Leicester City and beyond,” he said.

“We are committed to honouring his memory and upholding his legacy.

“Our continued growth as a club, our state-of-the-art new training ground and our planned stadium expansion will help realise his vision for Leicester City.”

Further details regarding the commissioning and the statue’s positioning will be released in due course.

Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha added the statue would be a “permanent and fitting tribute to the man that made it all possible”.

“He will forever be in our hearts. He will never be forgotten,” he added.

Leicester will wear shirts embroidered with their former owner’s name against Burnley.

A special video will be played before their game, which kicks off at 15:00 GMT on Saturday, while fans have also planned a tribute march to the ground.

Tributes left at the stadium are to be moved to a memorial area.

The club will present supporters at the game with scarves, pin badges, clap banners and a special matchday programme as commemorative gifts.
