Tuchel opens up on Guehi’s failed move to Liverpool

England manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed his thoughts on Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi and his failed move to Liverpool.

Guehi underwent a medical ahead of joining the Premier League champions, but Crystal Palace pulled the plug in the final hours after manager Oliver Glasner got his way in heated discussions with chairman Steve Parish in what was a devastating for the England international.

These discussions also focused on Palace’s failure to sign Igor Julio, who instead joined West Ham United on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion, which effectively blocked Guehi from leaving in the final few hours.

Speaking to the media ahead of this weekend’s World Cup qualifier with Andorra, Tuchel revealed that the Palace star is doing just fine despite his dream move being destroyed with just hours to spare.

“We had a chat with him and he looks absolutely fine,” said Tuchel.

“He looks very impressive on the field. He has a couple of very impressive weeks behind him on the sporting side and the performance side.

“He is the main driver of Crystal Palace’s success. He is the captain and the leader. He played very impressively at the end of last season and at the start of this season.

“He continued exactly like this in camp, so it was very impressive. He handles it with respect and with grace, and with a brilliant attitude.”

The centre-back is one of England’s best, and he will compete with the likes of Newcastle United’s Dan Burn for a spot under Tuchel. Guehi does not want to pen a new contract at Palace, and it looks certain that he will leave the side in what is only a matter of time as manager Arne Slot monitors him closely.

EPL: Szoboszlai’s late strike sinks Arsenal as Liverpool top table

Liverpool defeated Arsenal 1-0 at Anfield on Sunday, with Dominik Szoboszlai’s stunning free-kick ensuring the Reds maintained their perfect start to the season.

The Hungarian midfielder curled in an unstoppable strike from distance in the 83rd minute, sparking wild celebrations and leaving Arsenal’s resilient defence finally undone.

Arsenal’s afternoon worsened when William Saliba limped off early with injury, disrupting their backline. In spite of periods of possession, the Gunners lacked cutting edge in attack.

Liverpool, meanwhile, enjoyed strong support and pressed relentlessly. Arne Slot’s side now sit top of the Premier League table with three wins from three games.

Elsewhere, Manchester City suffered a surprise 2–1 defeat at Brighton, raising questions about their early form after dropping vital points in consecutive matches.

Manchester United edged Burnley 3–2 at Old Trafford. Bruno Fernandes converted a late penalty, ensuring United secured their first home league victory of the campaign.

Chelsea recorded a comfortable 2–0 win against Fulham, while Bournemouth stunned Tottenham with a narrow 1–0 success, denting Spurs’ hopes of maintaining momentum.

Everton claimed a thrilling 3-2 victory over Wolves, whereas Sunderland delighted home fans with a late 2–1 comeback win against Brentford.

West Ham impressed with a dominant 3-0 triumph away at Nottingham Forest, signalling intent after an inconsistent opening fortnight.

After three rounds, Liverpool lead the standings on maximum points, with Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham among the early chasers. City remain unusually unsettled.

Liverpool’s Ngumoha headlines dramatic EPL matchweek

Liverpool’s stunning 3–2 victory at Newcastle provided the standout drama of the English Premier League Matchweek Two, as 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha struck a sensational stoppage-time winner.

The teenager became Liverpool’s youngest goalscorer, finishing superbly after Newcastle had fought back from two goals down in spite of Anthony Gordon’s red card.

Bruno Guimarães and Will Osula had briefly restored parity for Newcastle.

At the Emirates, Arsenal overwhelmed Leeds with a commanding 5–0 win. Viktor Gyökeres scored twice, but injuries to Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard overshadowed celebrations.

Manchester City suffered a shock 2–0 home defeat to Tottenham. Richarlison led the line impressively, with Spurs exploiting City’s defensive gaps to secure a famous victory.

Chelsea produced a ruthless display, thrashing West Ham 5–1 away. The defeat intensified pressure on Hammers manager Graham Potter after another disorganised defensive performance.

Everton delighted their home fans with a 2–0 triumph against Brighton at Goodison Park, collecting their first points of the season in convincing style.

Manchester United endured further frustration at Fulham. Bruno Fernandes missed a penalty, and Emile Smith Rowe’s late strike earned the hosts a valuable 1–1 draw.

Elsewhere, Burnley eased past newly promoted Sunderland 2–0 at Turf Moor. Bournemouth edged Wolves 1–0, while Brentford beat Aston Villa by the same scoreline.

Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest shared the points in a 1–1 draw at Selhurst Park, where off-field protests by supporters overshadowed events on the pitch.

Matchweek Two delivered surprises and statement performances, with Tottenham’s resilience, Arsenal’s firepower, and Ngumoha’s heroics ensuring a weekend rich in storylines across the Premier League.

  • Transfer: Alexander Isak claims Newcastle broke promises

Transfer: Alexander Isak claims Newcastle broke promises

Alexander Isak accused Newcastle United of breaking promises and misleading supporters in a social media statement on Tuesday that confirmed he wanted to leave the Premier League club.

The 25-year-old striker said he informed Newcastle of his desire to leave a long time ago.

“When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue,” Isak wrote on Instagram stories.

“Change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.”

The Sweden international, who was the subject of 110 million pounds ($148.34 million) bid from Liverpool earlier this month according to media reports, was named in the PFA Premier League Team of the 2024-25 season.

However, he chose not to attend the ceremony due to ongoing issues surrounding his future.

“I’ve kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken.

“This silence has allowed people to perpetuate their own version of events, even though they know it doesn’t reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors.

“The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time.

“ Acting as if these issues have only just emerged is misleading,’’ he added.

Newcastle said in a statement that no commitment was made by a club official that Isak could leave this summer.

“We are clear in response that Alex remains under contract …,” Newcastle said.

“We want to keep our best players, but we also understand players have their own wishes and we listen to their views.

“As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take into consideration the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired.

“ We do not foresee those conditions being met.

“This is a proud football club with proud traditions and we strive to retain our family feel. Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates.”

Isak missed Newcastle’s goalless draw with Aston Villa in their Premier League opener on Saturday, and Eddie Howe’s side are set to play defending champions Liverpool on Monday.

Liverpool edge Bournemouth in 6-goal EPL opener

Liverpool opened their Premier League title defence with a 4-2 victory over Bournemouth in an emotional night at Anfield on Friday.

The match began with a poignant tribute to late forward Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, with fans observing a heartfelt 20th-minute applause.

New signing Hugo Ekitike marked his debut in style, firing home in the 37th minute after a swift attacking move involving Dominik Szoboszlai.

Shortly after the restart, Cody Gakpo doubled Liverpool’s advantage, finishing neatly from Ekitike’s precise pass to make it 2-0.

Bournemouth refused to fold, and Antoine Semenyo reduced the deficit in the 64th minute with a cool finish from a counterattack.

Twelve minutes later, Semenyo struck again, weaving through Liverpool’s defence before driving a powerful shot past Alisson to level the match.

Liverpool responded late, with substitute Federico Chiesa volleying in from close range in the 88th minute to restore their lead.

In stoppage time, Mohamed Salah sealed the win with a fierce strike, extending his record as the Premier League’s top scorer on opening days.

The evening was briefly marred by an incident in which Semenyo reported racial abuse from the stands, prompting officials to pause the match.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot praised his team’s resilience, highlighting Ekitike’s impact and the collective spirit in honouring Jota’s memory.

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola commended Semenyo’s performance but admitted defensive lapses proved costly in the closing stages.

The win ensures Liverpool start their campaign with momentum, combining attacking flair with emotional resolve in a fixture that will be long remembered for its intensity and sentiment.

BREAKING: Crystal Palace thrash Liverpool to win Community Shield

FA Cup winners Crystal Palace have thrashed Premier League champions Liverpool to win the FA Community Shield 2025.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Crystal Palace defeated Liverpool 3-2 via penalties on Sunday after the game ended 2:2 draw after 90 minutes.

Hugo Ekitiké, making his debut for the Reds, netted a tidy finish in the 4th minute. However, the Eagles restored parity after Jean-Philippe Mateta converted a penalty in the 17th minute. Virgil van Dijk had fouled Ismaila Sarr.

Around the 21st minute of play, Jeremie Frimpong’s cross looped in off the post, restoring a 2–1 advantage for Liverpool. Ismaila Sarr went on to smash in a superb late equaliser in the 77th minute to make it 2–2.

In the penalty shootout, big names such as Mohamed Salah, Alexis Mac Allister, and Harvey Elliott all failed to convert their spot kicks. However, Mateta, Sarr, and substitute Justin Devenny scored for the Eagles.

Dean Henderson, the Lions’ shot-stopper, delivered heroics with crucial saves, cementing his man-of-the-match claim.

Devenny’s calm, decisive spot-kick sealed the shootout and gave Crystal Palace their first-ever Community Shield title.

  • Liverpool winger rejects Mourinho’s offer

    Liverpool winger rejects Mourinho’s offer

Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa is being scouted by several Serie A sides this summer, as he rejects approaches from Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce.

The Italian international found first-team action hard to come by last season under manager Arne Slot who saw him as a player who could make an impact off the bench rather than being in the starting eleven each week.

Slot excluded the Italian winger from the club’s pre-season tour, confirming he’s no longer in the Reds’ plans and now Calciomercato reports that Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe made a move for the winger who scored 2 goals and bagged 1 assists in 14 appearances for the Reds.

Chiesa, who joined from Juventus for around €15M is said to have rejected the approach from Mourinho to head into the Süper Lig which is arguably one of the most underrated leagues for European stars to head to.

In June he spoke about his first season with Liverpool and revealed his slight frustrations with no playing regularly.

“At the beginning, I felt the frustration of the radical change and of being far behind the group, and then there was the injury.

“Up until the match against PSG, Liverpool was ahead of everyone, in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup, and among the favourites in the Champions League, which PSG won,” Chiesa, speaking to Corriere dello Sport, continued.

“Could I start to discuss the choices of Slot who has always been very respectful towards me, as well as the club? The desire to play was there, but I put it aside. I understood the situation. I put aside every form of individualism.”

The 27-year-old is in his prime and is wanted by the likes of AC Milan, Napoli, Atalanta and a range of other Italian sides who see Chiesa as an underrated gem in a Liverpool side who are busy trying to sign Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak who would displace Chiesa in the side even further.

Premier League champions Liverpool will pay the remaining £14.5 million of Diogo Jota’s contract to his family following his tragic death at 28 in a car crash in Spain, which also claimed the life of his brother, Andre.

Jota, who recently married his longtime partner Rute Cardoso, signed a five-year extension in 2022, earning £140,000 weekly.

The Portuguese striker joined Liverpool in 2020, making 182 appearances, scoring 65 goals, and winning multiple trophies, including the Premier League title last season.

Meanwhile Photos have surfaced showing the wreckage of the Lamborghini crash that claimed the lives of Liverpool star Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre, in northern Spain.

The accident occurred around 12:30am on Thursday near Zamora, close to the Portuguese border. Reports say the car’s tyre blew out while overtaking, causing it to veer off the road, roll over, and burst into flames.

Emergency services arrived at the scene but were unable to save the brothers. The Portuguese Football Federation and Liverpool FC later confirmed their deaths.

Just hours before the crash, Jota had shared a heartfelt Instagram post celebrating his recent wedding to Rute Cardoso, calling himself the “luckiest man in the world.”

‘The 1-1-2 Castilla y León operations room received several calls reporting a vehicle accident at Km. 65 of the A-52, in the municipality of Cernadilla, Zamora. A car was reported to have been involved in an accident and the vehicle was on fire,’ a statement read.

‘From there, a Medical Emergency Unit (UME) and the Primary Care Medical Staff (MAP) from the Mombuey Health Center were sent, who confirmed the de@th of two people on the scene’.
