    Veteran actor, Okonkwo appointed spokesperson of Peter Obi presidential campaign council

    Veteran Nollywood actor, Kenneth Okonkwo, has been appointed Spokesperson of Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Council.

    Appreciating the appointment on Twitter, the actor cum lawyer said: “I give special thanks to God Almighty for this appointment. More importantly, my special love and thanks to all the obedient family for your prayers, love and support for this appointment.”

    He is known for his role in the movie Living in Bondage as Andy Okeke.

    TheNewsGuru.com recalls that Okonkwo resigned from the APC on 11 July over the party’s Muslim-Muslim Ticket.

    The presidential candidate of the APC, Bola Tinubu, a Southern Muslim, recently picked Kashim Shettima, a former governor of Borno State and Northern Muslim, as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election.

    The actor announced his defection to the LP in a series of Instagram posts on Wednesday.

    Okonkwo said he was joining the LP to help enthrone good governance and achieve a new Nigeria.

    He said the LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is the symbol of the new Nigeria and called on all Nigerians to support the former governor to emerge the country’s president in 2023.

    “It was an honour and a privilege to be welcomed into the Labour Party on the 23rd of August, 2022, at the Supreme God House, Apo, Abuja, by the entire executive of the FCT Labour Party, representing the National Executive of the party,” he said.

    The actor attached some photographs of himself and some LP officials as he was being welcomed into the party.

    “I feel loved and cherished by the visit of these distinguished officials of this people-centric party to our chambers which culminated in my officially joining the Labour Party as a member,” Okonkwo stated.

    He said his membership of the LP would help him to contribute to working for the emergence of Obi as Nigeria’s president in 2023.

    Okonkwo thanked the Dynamics Ambassadors for Peter Obi (DAPO) for facilitating his defection to the party.

    The actor is the national spokesperson of DAPO, a political group canvassing support for the LP candidate.

    “I am passionate for a new Nigeria and I will stop at nothing to see it come to pass,” he added.

    He said although Nigeria is “so blessed” but regretted that the country had been “battered by bad leaders”.

    In 2019, the ‘Living in Bondage’ actor explained the rationale behind joining the APC, which has shaky roots in South-east Nigeria.

    In an interview, he said that he told Igbo people to join the All APC in 2019 to get a chance at fixing what he termed as “16 years of misrule”.

    He said Nigeria needs a president of Igbo extraction to fix the South-east and engender political inclusion.

    Nollywood actor and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo has revealed how he feels over the sequel of ‘Living in Bondage’ tagged ‘Breaking Free’.

    Asked about how he feels about being featured in ‘Breaking Free’, the sequel to the movie, Okonkwo said it makes him fulfilled.

    “It makes me feel fulfilled. Nobody gave us a chance that it was going to be like this. If after 27 years the first movie has sustained the tempo to the point that modern people started yearning for it, which led to a sequel, I feel very fulfilled and I thank God for it”, he told newsmen at the media parley for the movie.

    Speaking further, the actor revealed the differences between the Living in Bondage of 27 years ago and the sequel.

    “If you talk about technology, it would be like comparing the stone age to the modern age. But in terms of artistic perfection, it’ almost the same thing. The depth of acting when I started is better than the depth of acting now. A lot then depended on the creativity and dexterity of the actothe depth of acting that was selling the movie, there was no much film trick”

    Nollywood legendary movie ‘Living in Bondage, ’gets sequel

    fter 26-years, a sequel to Nollywood’s foremost blockbuster film ‘Living in Bondage’ is set to hit cinemas.

    News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the sequel titled ‘Living in Bondage: Breaking Free,’ is written by Nicole Asinugo and Chukwudi Obasi, and directed by veteran actor Ramsey Nouah.

    The new movie scheduled for release on November 8, features Kenneth Okonkwo, who starred as ‘Andy’ in the original thriller, among other cast members.

    Other actors in the sequel include Kanayo O. Kanayo, alongside Enyinna Nwigwe, Nancy Isime, and Munachi Abii.

    The plot of ‘Living in Bondage: Breaking Free,’ tells the story of Nnamdi, Andy Okeke’s mysterious son, and his unbridled quest for the ‘big life’ that pushed him into a perilous journey.

    NAN reports that ‘Living in Bondage’, acclaimed to be the movie that chronicled Nollywood’s journey to prominence, is a 1992 Nigerian two-part drama thriller film.

    The film was shot ‘straight-to-video’ and produced in Igbo, and starred Kenneth Okonkwo and Nnenna Nwabueze in their breakout roles.

    It tells the story of Andy (Kenneth Okonkwo) and Merit Okeke (Nnenna Nwabueze), a young couple facing harsh economic challenges that eventually pushed Andy to join a cult.

    Members of the fraternity swore their loyalty to ‘Lucifer’ and kill their loved ones in ritualized sacrifices for wealth.

    Andy met the ‘demands’ of the cult and eventually became very rich, however the nemesis that unfolded became the intrigues that define his ‘Living in Bondage.’
