  • Woman arrested for smuggling phone, kept inside soup for her imprisoned lover

    Operatives of the Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS) in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, yesterday foiled an attempt by a 33-year-old mother of two, Fatima Balogun, to smuggle a phone to her armed robbery suspect boyfriend, Ganiyu Ajibode, who is in prison custody.

    According to reports, Fatima hid the phone inside a cooler of soup he brought fro her boyfriend.

    She was apprehended by men of the Special Intelligence Unit of the NPS at the gate lodge of Abeokuta Maximum Prisons in Ibara.

    Fatima who claims to be a divorcee, said she lives in Fagba, Iju-Saga in Lagos.

    According to her, she met Ganiyu two years ago after her divorce from her children’s father.

    Fatima said this would be the first time she would be visiting Ganiyu who had been in prison for six months.

    She added that she tried to smuggle in the phone so she could have access to communicate with her lover.

    The Controller of Prisons, Ogun State Command, CP Benson Abolade, said the suspect was arrested for trafficking in Prison, which he said was against the operation of the prison and that the command has contacted the police for prosecution, saying,

    A Lagos-based building engineer identified only as Ogundare has reportedly killed his lover, Oriyomi Folarin and his rival, Akinade Omole, aka Currency for allegedly jilting him.

    The incident, which happened on Ebijimi Street in the Meiran area of the state, has left residents in awe.

    Ogundare and Folarin had been in a romantic relationship for years until sometime in 2016 when he (Ogundare) reportedly had financial challenges and could no longer meet his lover ’s needs.

    Before their relationship went sour, Ogundare had allegedly rented a shop for the woman and rented an apartment for her in the Agbado area of Ogun State.

    The woman, a divorcee popularly called Iya Corner, operated a beer parlor on the street and had three children.

    According to a report by The Punch, Ogundare, on Sunday had seen a Highlander Jeep that Omole parked at a filling station a few metres away from the beer parlour and had allegedly trailed him to his lover’s shop.

    He stormed the shop with a gallon of petrol, allegedly poured the content on the woman and his rival and set them ablaze.

    The fire was also said to have spread to Ogundare’s hand while fleeing the scene.

    It was learnt that Omole and Folarin died in a hospital in the community on Monday from the burns they suffered.

    Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the police had launched a manhunt for Ogundare.

    The PPRO said, “Two victims are dead; the suspect is missing but believed to be on the run.

    “Effort is on to track him, although, we are yet to confirm if he is still alive as news have it that he poisoned himself to death.

    “The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, Yaba for further investigation,” the PPRO added.

    Horror: Man stabs lover to death over refusal to make him next of kin

    A Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC female staff, Miss Sophia Phillips Horsefall, was killed by her boyfriend and his two accomplice early November, 2016 following her refusal to give him one million naira and make him, (the boyfriend) her next of kin.

    Subsequently, the deceased boyfriend and his two accomplices were, on Wednesday, summoned at a Port Harcourt magistrate’s court by the Department of State Services, DSS.

    The accused, Sotonye Martin, Innocent Oluche and Wachukwu Ugochukwu committed the murder on November 8.

    Counsel to the DSS, Mr. Eze, told the court that the first defendant, Mr. Sotonye Martin, lured the deceased, who he had a 13-year-old daughter for, to the house of the second defendant, Innocent Oluche, where he allegedly stabbed her to death.

    He claimed the first and second defendants later buried the deceased in a shallow grave, noting that they invited the third defendant, Wachukwu Ugochukwu, a spiritualist, to perform some rituals.

    According to him, the accused were brought before the court on a three-count charge which included “stabbing to death with a jack knife and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Law, Laws of Rivers State 1999.”

    The accused did not take plea.

    Chief Magistrate Alikor referred the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecution, saying her court did not have jurisdiction to entertain matters over murder which was the second charge.
    She remanded the accused in prison custody and adjourned the matter indefinitely.

    Elder brother to the deceased, Mr. Amatu Phillips, while speaking with newsmen, alleged that his sister was murdered by her boyfriend of 13 years, Mr. Martin because of her wealth.

    He claimed she had some money in her account and confided in the boyfriend who later kept on pestering her for financial support.

    According to him, after the sister had allegedly given him money several times, he came again demanding for N1million which she refused.

    He alleged that the boyfriend later lured her to his friend’s house, offered her a fruit juice drink which, unknown to the sister, was drugged.

    He alleged that when the boyfriend noticed that she was dizzy from effect of the drug, he stabbed her on the neck, demanding her ATM card and password.

    He claimed the boyfriend had before that day persuaded his sister to change the name of her next of kin on her bank details to his name.
