People say we don’t give ‘shishi, it’s not true – Peter Obi

The presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi, has denied claims that he doesn’t want to give people money for his political campaign.

Obi disclosed this on Monday during an interactive session between him and north-eastern stakeholders in Abuja.

“People say we don’t give people ‘shishi’. It is not true. But I want to use your money for your good. I want to use it to educate your children and give them opportunities.

“I don’t want to steal your money. That’s not what I am doing because it is wrong. Rather, I want to be part of you and your children,” Obi said.

The former Anambra State governor also said he is committed to the Northeast, adding that he is not going to be President from Abuja.

“I am going to be your President from the Northeast. There’s no way I will not tour every single state of Nigeria. I’ll be everywhere,” he said.

Aisha Buhari: Release Aminu now, this is not a military junta-Sen Baba-Ahmed

Vice Presidential candidate of Labour Party, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has called for the unconditional release of the detained undergraduate of the Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State, Aminu Mohammed held over his criticism of Aisha Buhari.

Mohammed was arrested by the police over a post on Twitter, alleging Aisha Buhari, wife of the President, was ‘feeding fat on poor citizens’ money.’

The VP candidate disclosed this in a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Baba-Ahmed said citizens had the right to criticise the government without fear.

While we will never as a party condone indecorous speech and disrespect to elders, we wish to remind the Buhari State House that they rode to power on the personal denigration of their opponents and empty promises without slightest clues of good governance.

“Individuals must be free to express themselves freely and any infraction of law be pursued as civil matter and not through high-handed abuse of power. This is not 1984. We lend our voice to the genuine calls for his immediate release,” Baba-Ahmed said in condemning the arrest of Aminu over his post on Aisha Buhari.

President Muhammadu Buhari was the military Head of State in 1984, but his regime, which was accused of poor human rights record, was toppled in 1985.

Assassination: LP mourns Victoria Chintex, says price too costly for liberal democracy

The Labour Party mourns assassinated women leader, Victoria Chintex, declaring that her death is too costly for liberal democracy.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) reports this was contained in a statement issued late Wednesday condemning the assassination of Mrs. Victoria Chintex, the Labour Party’s women leader in Kaura, Kaduna State on Tuesday in her home.

The LP described as an act likely to send all the wrong signals that this country is yet to find the starting point on the mark of freedom of association, choice and security desired in Nigeria.

“This killing is condemnable in serious terms and the present ruling party of APC and President Muhammadu Buhari should understand that political assassination in a thoroughly insecure country is a recipe that could derail the march to a fee and fair election, to which all contesting parties signed a Peace Accord.

“This singular act should be thoroughly investigated and appropriate steps taken to forestall similar occurence in the future, because we are all in a common market where stones of sling can not be allowed to fly, else it could hit anybody.

“The party condole with the immediate family of Mrs. Chintex and sympathizes with Labour Party and ObIdients the world over.

“This is a price too costly that no one should pay for liberal democracy.

2023: Ex-SGF Babachir Lawal’s group dumps APC, endorses Obi

A group coordinated by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Babachir Lawal, has endorsed the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi, as its preferred candidate for 2023 poll.

In a statement released in Abuja, Lawal said that the group comprising some Northern Christian politicians settled for Obi, after a painstaking review and analysis of the alternative presidential ticket holders.

According to reports, the group, in endorsing Obi, also endorsed his running mate, Mr Ahmed Datti.

Besides endorsing Obi and Datti, the group recommended LP candidates to Nigerians,  saying they would ensure justice, equity, fairness and unity of the country.

“As one of the foremost critics of APC’s single-faith presidential ticket and also in difference to those who have patiently waited for our guidance as to where to pitch our tent, after a painstaking review and analysis of the alternative presidential tickets, we now wish to recommend the Obi/Datti presidential ticket.

“We wish to briefly narrate some few reasons among many, why we have endorsed this ticket and recommend it to all Nigerians of good conscience who desire justice, equity and a harmonious co-existence of all Nigerians across tribes, religion and geopolitical regions.

“It is an indisputable fact that the whole of Northern Nigeria is currently mired in several intractable socio-economic problems, due to the activities of several nebulous criminal groups.

“Agriculture, the mainstay of the northern economy, is all but abandoned because kidnappers and bandits have prevented people from venturing out of the safety of their homes,” he said.

Lawal also decried the lack of safety in interstate and intercity travels for either business or leisure.

He said this was not only due to un-motorable roads but for fear of attacks by criminals such as kidnappers, armed robbery and bandits.

“In our quest for justice and equity in the socio-political and religious space of the country, it is obvious that only the Obi/Datti ticket has the potential to deliver.”

He said that the Obi/Datti ticket can speak on the genuine clamour for power shift to the South-East as well as the cry of marginalisation by people of the South-East.
