Suarez demands £12m payoff from Barca

Luis Suarez has agreed to join Juventus from Barcelona, but will only make the move if he can finalize his £12m payoff from the Catalans, Guillem Balague reports.

The 33-year-old striker looks set to line up alongside Cristiano Ronaldo next season rather than Lionel Messi.

However, Suarez is happy to be paid one season’s wages by Barca to get him off their books.

The Uruguayan does not have to leave Camp Nou and has one more year on his existing contract.

If Suarez plays 60 percent of the games next season, he would trigger another year extension, but it appears all parties are ready to move on.

He will join Juventus as either a free agent or for a small nominal transfer fee.

Suarez joined Liverpool for £74million six years ago.

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has agreed personal terms with Juventus, according to reports in Italy.

Sky Sports Italy and Gazzetta dello Sport say Suarez has reached an agreement to join Juve on a deal worth €10m a year.

Andrea Pirlo’s side are reportedly waiting for the 33-year-old Uruguay international to terminate his Barca contract before securing his services. Terminating Suarez’s contract would reportedly cost the La Liga club £22m in severance.

Should Suarez join Juventus then he would likely take advantage of the Italian government’s growth decree that will allow the forward to save the club almost 50 per cent of his wages in two years.

Juve’s veteran striker Gonzalo Higuain is expected to leave for MLS or Inter Milan.

Suarez gives condition to leave Camp Nou

Luis Suarez has told Barcelona they would have to pay £12million (€14million) in order to cancel his contract, Goal reports.

The Uruguay striker has been informed by new manager, Ronald Koeman, that he is not in his plans.

However, Suarez is not ready to just walk away and wants a significant pay-off.

The 33-year-old is into the final year of his current deal at the Camp Nou and earns around £400,000-a-week.

The player wants the La Liga giants to pay him the full worth of what is left on the deal before he leaves.

Suarez scored 21 goals in 36 games for Barcelona last season.

Barca president, coach clash over Depay move to replace Suarez

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman is facing an early clash with president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Koeman only took charge of Barca last week after the sacking of Quique Setien.

Mundo Deportivo says Koeman was tempted to return with the promise of full control of transfers. However, there is already a disagreement between the coach and his president.

Koeman wants to bring Lyon ace Memphis Depay to Barca as a replacement for Luis Suarez, but Bartomeu is insisting they continue their pursuit of Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.

Barca and Inter have been negotiating over a fee for Lautaro for several months, but despite protracted talks, Bartomeu is demanding the Argentine remain their top attacking target this summer.

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez is being offered a bank-busting move to Qatar.

Bein Sport reports Al-Arabi are keen to tempt the Uruguay international to Qatar’s competition. Contact with Suarez has already been established.

Now 33, Suarez has a contract with Barca to 2021, though a 12 month option will be triggered should he meet certain targets.

Al-Arabi coach Heimir Hallgrimsson is a big fan of Suarez and has personally requested his signing to the club’s board.

The contact for now has been exploratory, with Al-Arabi sounding out the veteran about his interest in extending his career in Qatar and Asian football.

UCL: Suarez hits brace in Barca comeback against Inter

Luis Suarez scored a fine double as Barcelona came from behind to beat Inter Milan in the Champions League.

Lautaro Martinez gave Antonio Conte’s Inter a deserved lead and went close to a second, with Marc-Andre ter Stegen expertly keeping out his header.

Suarez levelled with a wonderful volley from Arturo Vidal’s cross.

Then Lionel Messi, on his return from an injury, found Suarez – whose first touch took him past defender Diego Godin – and he blasted in the winner.

Those were Suarez’s first two Champions League group goals in over three years.

Barcelona, who are unbeaten in 33 Champions League home games, are level on four points with Borussia Dortmund, whom they drew 0-0 with in their opening game, at the top of the table.

Earlier on Wednesday, Dortmund won 2-0 at Slavia Prague thanks to two excellent solo goals by Achraf Hakimi, the first two Champions League goals of the Real Madrid loanee’s career.

La Liga: Ten-man Barca edge past Getafe

Luis Suarez and Junior Firpo got the goals as Barcelona moved back into La Liga’s top four with victory at Getafe.

Suarez latched on to Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s long clearance before lifting the ball over onrushing Getafe goalkeeper David Soria.

Firpo doubled the visitors’ lead, slotting home after Soria had spilled Carles Perez’s goal-bound effort.

Barcelona’s Clement Lenglet was sent off late on for a second yellow card.

The hosts created several first-half opportunities but were profligate in front of goal, with forward Angel thwarted by Ter Stegen from close range and Jaime Mata blazing over the crossbar.

Soria saved at the feet of Suarez soon after half-time, before the lively Perez dragged a shot wide from a tight angle as the visitors dominated the second period.

Lenglet’s dismissal for a late challenge on Jorge Molina set up a nervy finish, but the visitors held on to claim the win.

The victory – Barcelona’s first away from home in the league this season – lifts Ernesto Valverde’s side up to second, one point behind leaders Real Madrid, who face city rivals Atletico later today.

  • Higuain has same problem as Luis Suarez, says Sarri

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has compared Gonzalo Higuain to Luis Suarez and says the on-loan striker “needs time” to improve.

The 31-year-old, who joined Chelsea on loan from Juventus in January, was an unused substitute in the 3-0 win over Brighton on Wednesday.

Sarri insists he wants to keep Higuain next season but wants him to improve physically for the Premier League.

“It was a problem for Suarez in the first season at Liverpool,” Sarri said.

Suarez joined Liverpool in January 2011 and scored four Premier League goals before the season ended. The following season he scored 11 league goals, before going on to score 23 and 31 respectively in those that followed.

“He has to improve physically, mentally, but I think also he will be able to be very useful for us in the last part of the season,” Sarri said of Higuain, who has scored three goals in eight league appearances for Chelsea.

“It’s not easy in the first months to play in the Premier League. It was a problem also for Suarez in the first season at Liverpool. He scored only a few goals. In the second season he scored more. So it’s not easy, especially for a striker, to play immediately well in the Premier League.

“I think he needs time to improve his physical condition and time to be suitable for the Premier League. I think he is able to do it.”

Sarri hopes to keep Higuain at Stamford Bridge next season but said it was dependant on both Chelsea and his parent club. Chelsea have the option to buy the Argentine for 36m euros (£31.3m) or to extend his loan deal until June 2020 for 18m euros (£15.6m).

“Yes of course [I want to keep him], but it depends on the club, it depends on Juventus,” said Sarri.

“It’s not clear the situation at the moment.”

Fifth-placed Chelsea face West Ham at Stamford Bridge on Monday.

  • Barca striker Luis Suarez hints at Liverpool return

Barca striker Luis Suarez hints at Liverpool return

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has said that he would relish the opportunity to play under Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Suarez is a former Anfield favourite, having scored 69 goals in 110 appearances for the club after joining from Ajax in 2011, and was the Reds’ top scorer in the 2013-14 season as the Merseyside outfit narrowly missed out on their first top-flight title since 1990.

The Uruguayan exit from Anfield inevitably spelled a downturn in form for Liverpool, though they have since re-established themselves as a genuine force at home and abroad due to the exploits of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

“Currently we work for two different clubs, so that’s not an issue for me at the moment,” Suarez told 11Freunde when asked if he’d like to play for the former Borussia Dortmund coach. “But yes, every player would like to train under Jurgen Klopp.”
