    Diri seeks Jonathan’s, Lyon’s support

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has called on the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate David Lyon, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva and opposition parties in the state to support his administration.

He said he needed their support and that of former President Goodluck Jonathan to succeed.

He presented his Certificate of Return to the former president a few hours after he received it from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He spoke on Sunday at a thanksgiving service at Gloryland Chapel in Government House Yenagoa.

While acknowledging God for giving him the mandate, the governor urged all his supporters to be generous in victory as he was ready to appoint people in opposition into his cabinet.

He said: “I will be governor of all, be it PDP, APC and others. We must remain united and ensure peace in our land. That is the only time we can be talking of development. Let us work together.”

The governor said his priority was to bring development to every part of the state but warned that his administration would have zero-tolerance for crimes.

“Our administration will not condone crimes and criminalities. No development can take place in the atmosphere devoid of peace, he said.

In his sermon, the guest preacher, Apostle Zilly Aggrey of Royal House of Grace International, said no man should take the glory for the declaration of Diri as governor by the Supreme Court.

Aggrey warned against frivolities in governance and advised the governor to be wary of bootlickers who, according to him, have the habit of running down other people for personal gains.

Noting that Bayelsa State was too rich in resources to be poor, he urged the governor to initiate projects that would have direct bearing on the people.

He said: “Every community in Bayelsa State should have good drinking water. You should work with competent Nigerians, Koreans, the Chinese, Germans and people of other good nations to bring development to our people. Our youths need jobs”.

Aggrey called on the people of Bayelsa to continue to pray for the governor and his deputy to provide them effective leadership.

Bayelsa: PDP commends Lyon‘s sack, urges Supreme Court to right wrongs on Imo

The Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday lauded the judgment of the Supreme Court, which nullified the election of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Mr David Lyon, and his running mate, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo and declared the PDP candidate, Senator Douye Diri, and his running mate, Senator Lawrence Ewrujakpor, as the winners of the November 16, 2019 election.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement, however, insisted that the apex court must, according to him, right the wrongs in the Imo State governorship election judgment which sacked its candidate, Chief Emeke Ihedioha and declared the APC candidate, Senator Hope Uzodinma, as the duly elected governor of the state.

Ologbondiyan said the Bayelsa judgment will not change the course of its demand that the Supreme Court rectifies the perceived manifest mistakes contained in its judgment on the Imo State governorship election.

According to him, the Supreme Court will be redeeming its image and restoring public confidence on its infallibility by reviewing the Imo verdict given the manifold unjustifiable mistakes contained in that judgment.

He congratulated the people of Bayelsa State, the governor-elect, Senator Douye Diri and his deputy governor-elect, Lawrence Ewrujakpor, as their mandate has been restored.

Sack of APC’s Lyon: Supreme Court listened too voice of reason – Lagos PDP

The Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lauded the judgment of the Supreme Court, sacking the governor-elect of Bayelsa State, David Lyon.

While reacting to the Supreme Court judgement on Thursday, the Lagos State chairman of PDP, Engr. Adedeji Doherty told newsmen that the apex court deserved commendation for listening to the voice of reason by taking a decision not minding the consequences from those who thought they must use power maximally.

He maintained that the apex court as the last hope of the common man had not allowed those who believed that the country belonged to them but went ahead to act in tandem with justice and fairness.

“This judgment will make Bayelsans, Nigerians and the PDP family happy because people were beginning to lose confidence in our judicial system with the kind of judgements we have been getting in recent times.

What happened on Thursday is a welcome development. It is good for our democracy. It is good for our judicial system” he said

BREAKING: Supreme Court sacks Bayelsa governor-elect, Lyon

The Supreme Court has sacked the governor-elect of Bayelsa State, David Lyon, and his Deputy, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremieoyo.

A five-man panel of the apex court led by Justice Mary Peter-Odili ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to the All Progressives Congress’ candidates as the winners of the November 16, 2019 governorship election in the state.

The apex court ordered INEC to issue fresh certificates to the candidates of the party with the next highest votes and with the required constitutional spread of votes in the results of the election, which are the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidates.

Justice Ejembi Ekwo, who read the lead judgment of the apex, made the orders after disqualifying the APC’s deputy governorship candidate, Degi-Eremienyo, as a candidate in the election.

The court upheld the November 12, 2019 judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja which had disqualified Degi-Eremienyo in the election for submitting forged certificates to INEC.

The court ruled Degi-Eremienyo’s disqualification had infected the joint ticket with which he and the governorship candidate, Lyon, ran for and won the November 16, 2019 election.

He then took Roma to a second-place finish in the Serie A in 2014.

Garcia moved on to Marseille in 2016, leaving the club at the end of last season after leading them to the Europa League final in 2018.

He will sit on the Lyon bench on Saturday when they take on one of his former clubs, Dijon.

  • JUST IN: [Bayelsa guber] Court orders substituted service on Lyon, running mate

JUST IN: [Bayelsa guber] Court orders substituted service on Lyon, running mate

A frontline aspirant in the concluded governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bayelsa State, Preye Aganaba, has moved a suit he filed against the party and its candidate, Chief David Lyon, from the state to the Federal High Court, Abuja.

A copy of the court proceeding showed that the case came up on Wednesday for mentioning at the Federal High Court 4, Abuja presided over by Justice I.E. Ekwo.

Granting a motion ex parte file by Aganaba, Ekwo ordered substituted service of all the processes in the suit on David Lyon and his running mate, Biobaekuma Degi.

The judge ordered that the substituted service should include pasting the originating process or other processes on the wall or any part of the National Headquarters of the APC.

Ekwo also described the mode of service he issued against the APC candidate and his running mate as sufficient.

But the court turned down one of the prayers by the plaintiff asking the court to abridge the time which the defendants may enter appearance, file and serve their respective defence process to 14 days.

Ekwo, who said he could not issue such order in the absence of other parties, adjourned the case to October 16.

Aganaba in the substantive suit asked the court to void the primaries that produced Lyon as the candidate of the party for the November 16 governorship election in the state.

Aganaba, a founding member of the APC in Bayelsa, dragged the APC, Lyon, Degi and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to the court as defendants in a suit he personally filed on September 12.

The aspirant urged the court to make a declaration that the primaries scheduled for September 4 across the 105 wards in the eight local government areas of the state did not take place.

He also asked the court to make a declaration that since there were no primaries, the declaration of results that produced David Lyon as the candidate of the party was illegal, unconstitutional, null and void and of no effect.

The aspirant further demanded an order setting aside the results of the APC primary election, which returned Lyon as the candidate of the party for November 16 election.
