The Police Command in Ogun on Sunday said it has arrested a 25-year-old man, Bisi Omoniyi, for allegedly killing another man he met in his woman friend’s house at Ajilete area of the state.

Police Spokesman in Ogun, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, stated this in a press statement in Ota, Ogun, indicating that the suspect was arrested on Oct. 15.

Oyeyemi explained that Omoniyi was arrested following a distress call received by the police in Owode Egbado Divisional Headquarters, that a young man has matcheted another man to death in Ajilete town.

“Upon the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Owode Egbado, CSP Olabisi Elebute, quickly mobilized the divisional patrol team to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested,

“The victim was rushed to hospital but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, Akinyemi Alani, was with the woman friend one Kafayat Sakariyau in her room apartment at Ajilete.

“Alani, whose intention was to pass the night with the woman, was already settled in when the suspect, who also wanted to sleep with the lady, Kafayat, came knocking but was denied entry.” he said.

The PPRO said that the suspect who came from Ibasa area of Okeodan, forced his way into the woman’s room and met the victim in a position the suspect described as unacceptable to him.

He said that a fight ensued between them and the suspect picked a cutlass in the room and matcheted the victim to death.

The corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the general hospital mortuary for autopsy, while the woman in the center of the crisis has since run away.

Meanwhile, the commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.

  • Ondo houseboy machetes madam to death while asleep, absconds to Ogun State

Ondo houseboy machetes madam to death while asleep, absconds to Ogun State

The Police Command in Ondo State on Thursday paraded one Emmanuel Akpan, a houseboy, and his accomplice, Goodness Ekpe, for allegedly killing his employer, Mrs Febisola Caroline Adebayo.

Bolaji Salami, Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, made this known while parading the suspects along with 25 others, arrested for various crimes in the state, before newsmen in Akure.

The CP explained that On March 29, 2021, at about 2300hrs at Ifokanbale Street, Ondo town, Emmanuel Akpan, a house boy allegedly killed his “madam”, late Mrs Febisola Caroline Adedayo, a food canteen operator, in Ondo town with a machete while the woman was asleep.

According to the CP, the houseboy received information from Goodness Ekpe, a man from his hometown, who also worked at Ondo town, that the late woman had a lot of money and this was the reason they gave for carrying out the dastardly act.

“Akpan carted away the sum of N3,500, two phones, some jewelries and a power generator from the house before he absconded,” he said.

The police commissioner, who said that Apkan and Ekpe were arrested at a village in Ogun State, explained that investigation was ongoing and after the investigation the two suspects would be charged to court accordingly.

“Last month, we paraded some criminals who were involved in various kinds of crimes, some of whom are cooling their heels in some correctional centres across the state today.

“Though, advertising our exploits had never been my style of policing, it sometimes looks inevitable to do so, with the hope that criminals to stay away from crimes.

“Within the period under review, my officers and men have maintained high sense of professional competence and this has brought about arrests and parade of the suspects,” he said.

  • Pandemonium in Ebonyi as man machetes father, sister to death

Pandemonium in Ebonyi as man machetes father, sister to death

A community in Ebonyi State was on Sunday thrown into pandemonium following the murder of one Nwode Nwignoaka and his seven years old daughter by his 25 years old son, Julius Nwode.

The incident happened at Ifelemenu community, Ekpaomaka in Ikwo Local Government Area of the state.

According to an eyewitness, Julius went berserk killing his father and sister before attacking six other residents of the community who came to intervene in the matter.

He inflicted serious machete cuts on the six other residents of the area before he was later gunned down by a husband of one of the victims of his attack, a source said.

While the reason for his actions could not be ascertained, a source who did not want to be named, said the suspect had taken hard drugs when he came into the house.

An altercation reportedly occurred between him and his father who asked him where he had been.

When he was attacking his father with machete, Julius’ sister came out and asked him why he was attacking their father. And he descended on her and macheted her to death after killing the father.

Some neighbours who saw what happened came to the scene. Julius attacked about six of them with the machete. As he was leaving the area wielding the machete, a man called Peter whose wife was among those macheted, went inside his house, brought his gun and shot him and he died instantly,” he narrated.

The corpses of the victims have been deposited at the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki while the injured are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the state.

The spokesperson of the police in Ebonyi, Loveth Odah, confirmed the incident.

She, however, said Julius reportedly killed himself after killing his father and sister.

The boy is about 25 years and he burns candle and reads some religious books. So he came home and attacked his father and seven years old sister with Axe and machete. Thereafter he killed himself,” she said

She said the police were still investigating the incident and she has not been properly briefed on the number of casualties.

  • Badoo cult: Whistles, machetes now cogent needs to survive in Ikorodu

Badoo cult: Whistles, machetes now cogent needs to survive in Ikorodu

Virtually every household in Ikorodu area of Lagos now owns whistles and machetes and other implements as survival strategies against the dreaded Badoo cult, terrorising the area.

It will be recalled that scores of women and some family members have been killed in the area in recent times, the latest being a family of five hacked to death in their sleep.

Mr Kazeem Yusuf, the Chairman of the Egba-Otun Community Development Association (CDA) in Itaolowu, Ikorodu, told NAN that residents had resorted to self-help.

He said that able bodied-people in families were being drafted by the CDA to participate in vigilance-keeping during the night.

“It is the government that asked every CDA in Ikorodu to sensitise its members to the need to have whistles and machetes ready at hand, especially at nights.

“The whistle when blown will indicate the presence of those terrorising us.

“It will urge close residents to come to the aid of the `whistle blower so that the bad people can be over-powered,’’ he said.

According to Mrs Yemisi Toluope, the Vice-Chair of Ereko-Central CDA at Muti, Ikorodu, residents are now united in their battle against the Badoo group.

She commended the government of Lagos and Ogun States for working assiduously with the CDA to combat the menace of the group.

“The CDA structure is the best way to get the people to be involved in their safety and survival,’’ she said.

However, a cleric, who preferred not to be named, advised the residents not to adopt jungle justice in dealing suspected members of the cult.

“Mob killing will only bring further curse and woes to Ikorodu.

“No society grows in glory when it does not encourage natural justice.

“We know that the Badoo cult has caused us heartache and pain but that is not enough reason for us to have recourse to jungle justice and burning and maiming suspects.

“Our government must ensure that we the people do not condescend to the level of these miscreants and killers by our actions,’’ he argued.

A Muslim cleric, who also pleaded anonymity, appealed to Ikorodu residents to allow the police take apprehended suspects into custody for further investigation.

“Natural justice must rule over justice of the jungle,’’ he said.
