Gov Makinde not dumping PDP for ADC – Aide

The Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Mr Taiwo Adisa, says that the governor is not leaving Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for African Democratic Congress (ADC) or any other party.

Adisa said this in a statement issued to newsmen in Ibadan on Monday, while reacting to rumours making the rounds in a section of the media that the governor is set to dump PDP under whose platform he was elected governor in 2019.

He described the report as “a concocted falsehood from purveyors of fake news, who are bent on maligning the governor at all cost.”

Adisa maintained that contrary to the fake news report, Makinde had no plan whatsoever to join any other party.
According to him, the governor has remained a strong pillar of PDP for many years and was already leading the mission for its resurgence in the South-West zone.

The governor’s aide stated that the report in question raised all the red flags of fake news, as it was based on unverifiable claims from an unnamed source.

He added that if the writers of the report and the editors of the media through which it was reported had done due diligence, such falsehood would not have found its way into the public sphere.

Adisa further stated that the attempt to launch the concocted story shortly after some media outfits had tried to exaggerate the governor’s exit from a WhatsApp platform purportedly belonging to PDP was negatively ingenious.

“The noble profession of journalism dictates that if a party makes insinuations about another, the second party’s response should be sought.

“The reporter in question had access to the media unit of the governor, but he chose to fly with the falsehood.”

Adisa maintained that apart from the governor not contemplating joining ADC or any other party for that matter, he would also not be distracted by the ridiculous lies being circulated by the enemies within and without.

Lanlehin, others seeking to derail Oyo’s economy – Makinde’s CPS

The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, on Sunday, accused opposition figures in the state of a deliberate plot to chase away investors and slow down the state’s economy.

Adisa, who was reacting to a statement credited to the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2019 election in the state, Chief Femi Lanlehin, said that the opposition leaders’ penchant to raise the alarm around issue of insecurity and exaggerate the same beyond the realm of reality is a ploy to create fear in the minds of residents of the state and slow down its thriving economy.

Adisa, who wondered whether Lanlehin has just woken from sleep to issuing a statement attacking Makinde over a matter that is already being handled by the Governor and the appropriate security agencies, counseled against trying to profit unduly from a sensitive matter as security.

He said: “The whole nation applauded Governor Seyi Makinde for leading the state’s economy out of the difficult situation he met in 2019.

“Rather than allow the economy to stagnate, verified statistics indicated that the governor grew Oyo State economy by as much as 26 percent last year despite the spiral effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“And that is besides the landmark developmental projects that all can see across the state.

“But it is obvious that the opposition in Oyo State is unhappy with the developmental strides of the Makinde-led administration in the state and that they will do anything to drag attention to pockets of insecurity, which the administration is striving daily to bring under control.

“Rather than join hands with the Governor to find lasting solutions to the incidences of crime and criminality occasioned by the general failure of the APC-led Federal Government to secure Nigerian borders and stop the influx of bandits and criminal elements, leaders of the APC have been gloating over such instances.

“It is a clear signal of the measure of the evil they wish for the state and an obvious demonstration of their unpatriotic conducts.

“Whereas cases of insecurity are widespread across the 36 states of the federation and the FCT Abuja, it is disheartening that only the opposition in Oyo State including Chief Lanlehin has been known to attempt to grab the headlines in celebration.”

Adisa, who called on residents of the state not to yield to the false alarm being created by opposition elements, said security measures put in place by the government are already yielding results.

“Let us put it on record that every attempt to create a sense of fear in the people of Oyo State will fail, as the security measures put in place by Governor Makinde is already yielding positive fruits.

“While we know that the opposition in Oyo is seeking to gain cheap popularity from portraying Oyo in bad light over insecurity, we can only wish they desist from such inhuman conduct, which is capable of destroying the state beyond repair,” the statement added.

Oyo bans movement during environmental sanitation

The Oyo State Government has declared that there would be total restriction of human and vehicular movements during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise holding on Saturday.

The restriction of movement, according to a statement signed and made available to newsmen by the Commissioner, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Dr. Abdulateef Oyeleke, would, however, not affect those on essential duties, including health workers, journalists, and the law enforcement agents.

The statement, which stated that the exercise would hold between 6am and 9am on Saturday, warned against the violation of the environmental sanitation law as deviants would face severe penalties.

It read, “There shall be total restriction of both vehicular and human movement except for those on essential duties.”

It directs chairmen of Local Government and Local Council Development Areas in the state to ensure compliance in their respective domains as it is expected that citizens utilize the period to clean their surroundings.

The release further directs all directors of Environmental Health Services in the 33 Local Governments and 35 Local Council Development Areas within the state to monitor the exercise as a matter of duty.

The statement, therefore, enjoined shop owners, market men and women, security operatives, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, Tricycle Owners and Operators Association of Nigeria, the Association of Commercial Motorcycle Riders of Nigeria and the general public to comply with this directive.

The meeting might not be unconnected with the ultimatum issued Fulani herdsmen in Igangan, Ibarapa North Local Government Area to quit.

Herders crisis: Makinde vows to end banditry in Oyo, deploys 200 additional Amotekun operatives to Ibarapa, Oke Ogun

Gov. Seyi Makinde announced this in Ibadan on Wednesday at the end of a meeting held with representatives of the communities and security stakeholders.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mrs Ngozi Onadeko, was also present at the meeting.

“The Amotekun operatives will launch missions to rid forests in the areas of criminals.

“The operatives will be presenting daily reports of their activities to the governor in the short run and periodic reports in the long run.

“The government will continue to enforce the Oyo State Open Rearing and Grazing Regulation Law, 2019 as the law also regulates the activities of herdsmen in Oyo State.

“The authorities have directed the Amotekun Corps to continue collaborating with other security operatives and local vigilance groups in enforcing this law.

“You will recall that in the security meeting of southwest governors and other stakeholders two days ago, it was agreed that open grazing be banned in the entire southwest zone,’’ the governor declared.

Gov. Makinde stated also that his administration would adopt continuous dialogue, “as one of the measures aimed at ending insecurity in Ibarapa and Oke-Ogun axis.

“In the next few weeks, the government will hold town hall meetings and community outreaches so as to bring together residents and security agencies to talk about security issues of immediate concerns.

“The meetings will also examine how those security issues of immediate concerns can be resolved through dialogue and more effective community policing,’’ he stated.

The governor added that the state government would ensure the documentation of foreigners resident in the state as one of the strategies to combat crime.

He said that the documentation would ensure that only foreigners who had legitimate interests in Oyo State remained in the state.

Another measure contained in the security strategy was the decision to further collaborate with federal security agencies operating in the state.

Gov. Makinde stated that his administration was aware of how some farmers had been killed while others lost their means of livelihoods to criminal trespass and damage by pastoralists.

He said the state government was considering the possibility of paying compensation to families of victims or victims of such criminality who could prove their claims.

He declared that the state government had started the process of prosecuting all suspects arrested over criminal activities in Ibarapa and the Oke-Ogun, especially in connection with the on-going tensions in the area.

Gov. Makinde thanked residents of Oyo State who complied with the directive to remain peaceful, and called on them to stay vigilant and always contact security agencies empowered by law to deal with security issues.

Sunday Igboho: I won’t permit criminal response to criminal actions – Makinde

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Monday restated that his administration would not support anyone taking law into their hands or solving criminality with criminality.

Makinde, in a veiled reference to Sunday Adeyemo (aka Sunday Igboho), said he would continue to back security agencies in the state instead of those carrying out jungle justice against perceived wrongdoers.

He spoke during a meeting of Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) with the national leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association (MACBAN) and heads of security agencies in the Southwest in Akure, Ondo State.

Igboho had reportedly led some Ibarapa youths to attack a Fulani settlement in the area last week. While Makinde condemned the action, the Police Inspector-General, Mohammed Adamu, declared him (Igboho) wanted.

The governor told the meeting that his administration would promote good neighbourliness by encouraging residents of the state to live together in peace and to face their common enemies, who are criminals of all shades and tribes.

Makinde, in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, said his government had foreclosed the option of backing anyone taking up arms against other ethnic nationalities or residents of the state in the name of seeking justice.

He also stated he would do his best to provide opportunities for the people, as that is another way to reduce the tension in the land.

“One of the things we found out is that opportunities are very limited at the top. We will continue to do our best to strive to expand our economy and provide opportunities for a whole lot of our people. And we believe when we do that, the tension will definitely go down,” he assured.

The governor added: “We will continue to promote good neighborliness among our people and we will ensure that all of us go after the criminals together.

“We will continue to support our security agencies because they are also trying to maintain law and order in an atmosphere of pandemic and economic challenges. We will continue to provide support for the security agencies for them to do their work.”

The governor also said that some elements seeking political powers were misinforming the public and causing division among them.

“I can tell you for a fact that when the Kisi area of Oyo State, which shares an international border with the Republic of Benin was invaded, all hands were on the deck. MACBAN, Operation Burst, local hunters and the communities all worked together to clear the bush.

“During my electioneering, a major decision I was going to take was to scrap all the LCDAs in Oyo State and stick with only the LGAs that are known to the Constitution of Nigeria.”

Makinde lacks courage, leadership acumen to tackle security challenges in Oyo – Buhari’s Minister

Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, has carpeted Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde over rising insecurity, especially herdsmen attacks in the state.

He said the worsening situation was due to the inactions of a “ temporising fiddling leader.”

In a statement on Monday, Dare accused Makinde of being scared to take a decision that would protect indigenes of his state from attacks.

Herdsmen attacks have escalated in the state, especially in Igangan Ibarapa North Local Government where Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho, issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Fulanis to leave or be flushed out.

In the statement titled ‘Minister wants Makinde to be more decisive on security’, Dare said: “For several months, citizens of Oyo state have watched with increasing concern as the security situation in our beloved state degenerated. Troubling accounts about killings, kidnappings, and herdsmen versus farmers conflicts abound.

“Like all the people of Oyo State, I expected the Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to act prudently but with reasonable dispatch to quell the security situation before it got out of hand. We all waited for proactive steps and responses from the state authority certainly in vain.

“Governor Makinde seems to be paralysed by fear regarding this important security situation. This is the first serious test of his leadership of the state.

“Instead of tackling it, he has retreated. His policy has not been proactive enough to resolve the issues so that security of lives will be guaranteed and our people spared the mourning over dead ones. Instead, his policy has been to act as if nothing was happening in forlorn hope that all would simply go away as if it were a bad dream.

“The worsening developments in the state in the area of security are a direct result of a temporizing fiddling leader.

“The Governor has paid more lip service to the issue of security instead of offering solutions or taking proactive steps to stem the attacks and chart the path of resolution. For this is a complex issue that requires political courage and vision to resolve.”

Arresting Igboho will escalate tension, Fayose warns IGP, Makinde

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has cautioned against any attempt to arrest Sunday Adeyemo, a youth activist popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

He told Oyo governor Seyi Makinde and Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, that arresting Igboho would escalate tension in the South-West region.

Recall that the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhumadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, during an interview with BBC Hausa, said IGP Adamu, had ordered the arrest of Igboho for giving Fulani in Oyo State an ultimatum to exit the state.

Shehu also claimed that the IGP had ordered the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Ngozi Onadeko, to immediately transfer Igboho to Abuja after his arrest.

Makinde had also directed Onadeko to arrest “persons found guilty of stoking ethnic tension”.

However, Fayose wondered why Igboho would be arrested, saying northern governors had a dialogue with terrorists.

He tweeted, “Gov Seyi Makinde should rather use dialogue and persuasion instead of escalating tension in his own State by calling for the arrest of Sunday Adeyemo or anyone at this time.

“If FG and some governors could ‘dialogue’ with Boko Haram terrorists, Gov Makinde calling all stakeholders to a round-table discussion will not be a misplaced action.

“Any attempt to arrest anyone will cause a further threat to the already fragile peace in the West and the country as a whole. Above all, any unchecked escalation may lead to a state of emergency.”

‘Sunday Igboho’: Arrest those stoking ethnic chaos like common criminals, Makinde tells Oyo’s CP

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has asked the new Commissioner of Police in Oyo, CP Ngozi Onadeko, to arrest and treat those igniting ethnic tension in the state as criminals.

Makinde said this on Friday when Onadeko paid him a courtesy visit at the Governor’s Office, Agodi, Secretariat, Ibadan.

Makinde’s remark is coming in the wake of the quit notice given to herdsmen in Oyo communities by a supposed activist, Sunday Igboho.

The governor said that attempt to fuel security tension under any guise that would threaten the corporate vision of Nigeria would not be tolerated by his administration.

He said that his government was not against any ethnic group, but was determined to flushing out criminal elements anywhere in the state. He stressed that the Hausa/Fulani ethnic group residing in the state was not his government’s target, but hoodlums, bandits, irrespective of their tribes and religion.

“For people stoking ethnic tension, they are criminals and once you get them they should be arrested and treated like common criminals.”

“For this administration, the major pillar for us is secure because we know that all the good things we want to do economically won’t be possible in an atmosphere of chaos and insecurity.

“So, when people say things that are not lawful and within the spirit of Nigeria’s constitution, it is not acceptable here.
“And they cannot hide under being people protecting Yoruba interest to perpetuate chaos in the state,” he said.

Makinde reiterated that security remained one of the pillars of his administration, noting that all the good policies of his administration could not be actualised in an atmosphere of chaos and insecurity.

He promised to give maximum support to the Nigerian Police and other security agencies to ensure the safety of lives, property and economic prosperity of the state.

Makinde called for more synergy between the police and the Western Nigeria Security Network, code-named Amotekun. He noted that those who demonised Amotekun were the ones issuing an ultimatum to certain ethnic nationalities to vacate the state.

The governor welcomed the new police boss and assured the CP of his support in tackling insecurity in the state.

“We won’t make the job difficult. We will be sincere, open and support you,” he added.

In her remark, Onadeko pledged to make lives and property of residents of the state safe and secure saying that visibility policing had started in earnest. She assured the governor that men and officers of the command would display a high level of professionalism and that corruption would be shunned, with the view to achieving a common goal.

“I’m here to formally tell you that I have assumed duty, we promise to make the lives and property of the people of Oyo State safe and secure. “Since I came in, we have started with our visibility policing.

When I came in, I noticed that there were no policemen on the road, maybe it was still the aftermath of the EndSARS issue, but we have been able to draft them back. “We have asked them to occupy their space because it is their constitutional duty. We have to nip crime to hit the barest minimum in Oyo state. “We are going to be professional about our work, shun corruption, synergise and work with other sister agencies.

“We are all working toward one particular goal, that is, to make sure that Oyo State is safe and secure,” the CP said. Onadeko further pleaded with the governor to assist the command with operational vehicles.
