    New Alaafin of Oyo ‘ll emerge soon – Makinde

    Oyo State Government has assured the people of Oyo Town that new Alaafin of Oyo would emerge soon, urging them to be patient.

    Gov. Seyi Makinde gave the assurance at the eighth day fidau/interdenominational prayer held in honour of the late Oba Adeyemi at the palace arcade in Oyo.

    The late Oba Adeyemi died on April 22 at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti.

    Makinde, represented by Chief Bayo Lawal, the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Matters, said he was awared that people were anxious to have new king.

    “People are eager to see the next king, but we have to follow due process.

    “We promise not to compromise and another Alaafin will come in due time,” the governor said.

    Earlier, in their separate sermons, Imam Masud Ajokidero and Rev. Eyitayo Sulola, urged the people to always embrace orderliness as observed by the late Alaafin when he was alive.

    They called on the kingmakers “Oyo Mesi” to follow the path of peace and not moneybags in the selection process of the new king.

    In her remarks, Chief (Mrs) Alaba Lawson, the Iyalode of Yorubaland, described the late Alaafin as father of Yorubas, who always fight for the right of his people.

    Lawson said, “He always listen to the cry of Yorubas and was great historian. I wish the incoming king will sustain the legacies he left behind.”

    In his remarks, Oba AbdulRashid Anikulapo, the Onibode of Igboholand, said that something bad had happened to the Yorubas with the death of Alaafin.

    Anikulapo said that the traditional ruler had enthroned many kings across the South-West, including Oke-Ogun, who were not beaded crown wearing Kings before he was enthroned in 1970.

    Makinde gifts Olubadan-designate brand new SUV ahead of coronation

    The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday evening presented a Toyota Land Cruiser SUV to the Olubadan-designate, Oba Olalekan Balogun, ahead of his coronation as the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland on Friday.

    Mr Emmanuel Alawode, Chairman of Ibadan South-East Local Government, on behalf of the governor, presented the car’s key to the Olubadan-designate at his residence at Alarere area of Ibadan.

    The younger brother of the new Oba, Sen. Kola Balogun (PDP- Oyo South), received the car and a Jac Pick-Up vehicle on behalf of the Olubadan-designate.

    The appointment of the new traditional ruler of Ibadanland was approved by Makinde on Feb.14.

    Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun, the Chairman of the Olubadan Coronation Committee, who is also the Secretary to the State Government, had on Wednesday, said the state government was ready to host a grand event, befitting the status of the highly revered oba.

    All markets in Ibadan would be closed tomorrow as a sign of respect for the traditional institution of Ibadanland.

    It was also revealed that all the market leaders across all markets in the 11 local government areas in Ibadanland had ordered the closure of the markets.

    They, however, advised traders to use the period to attend the coronation at Mapo Hall, in the ancient city.

    Makinde approves date for installation of 42nd Olubadan

    The Oyo State Government has approved March 11 as the date for installation ceremony of Sen. Lekan Balogun as the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland.

    This is contained in a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Dr Bashir Olanrewaju.

    The letter was addressed to Balogun with the titled: “Installation Ceremony: Olubadan of Ibadan”, which further affirmed Gov. Seyi Makinde’s approval of the appointment of the new Olubadan of Ibadanland.

    The letter reads: “I wish to refer to a letter No.18SELG.243TI/17 of Feb.16, 2022 on the above subject and inform you that His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo State has approved Friday, March 11, 2022 as the date of the Installation of the New Olubadan of Ibadan.”

    Makinde had on Feb.14 approved Balogun’s emergence following a recommendation to that effect by the Olubadan-in-Council, which was communicated to the governor.

    The stool of Olubadan of Ibadanland became vacant following the death of the 41st Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji on Jan. 2 at the age of 93.

    Osinbajo, Makinde, others to pay tributes to late Alao-Akala

    Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Gov. Seyi Makinde and other prominent Nigerians are among dignitaries expected at the ‘Day of Tributes’ in honour of the late former Oyo Governor, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala.

    A statement signed by Alhaji Kehinde Olaosebikan on behalf of the organisers in Ibadan on Sunday said that the event would feature tributes from prominent Nigerians, lecture and cultural display.

    The event is the first in a week-long of events organised to celebrate the life of Alao-Akala who died on Jan. 12.

    The event is organised by a conglomerate of politicians across party lines in Oyo State under the joint chairmanship of Chief Wale Ohu and Rep. Olusegun Olayiwola.

    Olaosebikan said that a lecture entitled ‘Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala: The Life of a Humane Politician’ would be delivered by retired federal permanent secretary and eminent scholar, Prof. Tunji Olaopa.

    He said that Osinbajo and Makinde would lead other prominent Nigerians to the occasion, where they would express their views on the life of the departed governor

    Olaosebikan said that among others expected at the event are labour, market, associations, students, women and youth leaders as well as captain of industries.

    He said that necessary arrangements had been concluded to give the late former governor a befitting burial in all ramifications.

    “As a governor for four years and 11 months, Alao-Akala was exceptional in governance; pragmatic, compassionate, sagacious and uncommonly generous.

    “All these virtues and his delightful relationships with the high and low in the society earned him the appellation of ‘Oyato Governor’. He was indeed unique and uncommon,” he said.

    Oyo gov, Makinde to name new Olubadan on Monday

    Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, says he will on Monday, officially announce the new Olubadan of Ibadanland.

    Makinde made this known on Saturday, at the grand finale of the burial ceremony of late Oba Saliu Adetunji, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan.

    He said all issues hindering the announcement and installation of the new Olubadan had been resolved.

    “This is another victory for Ibadan traditional institution, the process and the system was never broken, so we have reverted to the age long system.

    The governor said he had received a letter from Olubadan in Council in respect of the announcement of the new Olubadan.

    According to him, Ibadanland has a unique procedural steps as regards enthronement of new Oba and this has been in existence for ages.

    Makinde thanked all Ibadan indigenes and well-wishers that came to witnessed the final burial ceremony.

    He prayed that Ibadanland would continue to witness more developments.

    The late Oba Adetunji, who was the 41st Olubadan of Ibadanland, died on Jan. 2, at the age of 93.

    In a tributes to the late Olubadan, President Muhammadu Buhari described Oba Adetunji as a visionary and compassionate leader who used the spheres of his influence to advance the progress of his people.

    “We trust that the process of selecting his successor will be guided by wisdom, understanding and good judgment that exemplified the life he lived,” the president said.

    Hijab: We’ll respect everybody’s religious rights – Makinde

    Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has on Tuesday in Ibadan assured people of the state that his government would not trample on their religious rights.

    Makinde said this in a statement by his Special Assistant on Islamic Affairs, Mr AbdulRasheed AbdAzeez, to mark the 2022 World Hijab Day.

    The governor congratulated the Muslim Ummah in the state, especially the female adherents and pledged that his administration would not oppose activities and practices that would promote godliness and modesty.

    “Hijab is a covering which not only beautifies the wearer but also helps in advancing decency in the society.

    “Muslim students who wish to wear hijab in public schools in Oyo State have not been denied their right to do so,” he said.

    “I have instructed those in positions of authority in the state’s public service and across all our public schools not to intimidate or harass anyone because of their religious beliefs or practices.

    “Our government is God-fearing and we will continue to preach religious tolerance, equality and justice, which will further engender peaceful coexistence, love and togetherness.

    “As the theme of this year’s celebration suggests, hijab is the pride of every female Muslim and it remains sacrosanct,” he said.

    He appealed to various religious heads and leaders to always seek engagement with the state government on any issue in order to avoid religious crisis.

    “Our doors are open for advice, suggestion and consultation on ways of moving our dear state forward”, he said.

    Makinde launches app to tackle ‘Omo Onile’ in Oyo

    Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the launch of a mobile app to help residents have easy access to land information services, without physical presence and the hassle of dealing with the notorious land thugs known as ‘Omo Onile’.

    A statement by the Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Olusegun Olayiwola, said that the application, also known as “Ilè D’olà Exchange” under the Private Networks Nigeria Limited (PNN) initiative, would be the first of its kind in the country.

    Mr Olayiwola said the app, to be launched on February 11, will avail residents of the state the opportunity of making inquiries and suggestions on government services and also get faster responses on all issues.

    The commissioner also said that the initiative was part of the government’s strategic measures to shore up its internally-generated revenue (IGR).

    Also, the Managing Director PNN, AbdulRahman Odunowo, was quoted as saying that the new innovation was to key into the emerging global market, with a view to unlocking the full potential in technological advancement in all land-related matters.

    “Through the use of Ilè D’olà Exchange, the ministry can now easily create an enabling environment for both local and international investors, validate ownership of properties and ensure transfer of ownership, among others,” he said.

    “Other features of the app include easy detection and location of files and easy access to external users.

    “Hitches hitherto encountered by residents in the purchase of title of ownership, transfer of ownership, and land allocation will soon be a thing of the past, with the aid of the app,” he said.

    Ekiti PDP primary: Makinde earned my respect – Fayose

    Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has hailed Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, over Wednesday’s primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

    The Ekiti State governorship primary election produced Bisi Kolawole as party’s flagbearer for the June 18 poll.

    Fayose thanked PDP aspirants, members and supporters for their conduct during the exercise.

    In a statement by spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, Fayose said the Oyo helmsman proved to be “a man of his words and he deserved to be appreciated.”

    “By ensuring a level playing ground before and during the primary election, Governor Makinde has further earned my respect”, he noted.

    Fayose urged him to support Ekiti PDP to win the election so that his position as the only governor in the South-West “will be further strengthened”.

    The politician further commended former governor, Segun Oni “for his exemplary display of the spirit of sportsmanship”.

    He advised that whatever happened before and during the primary be allowed to slide as no group can win an election alone.

    “All stakeholders should be rest assured of their rightful place in the new arrangement,” Fayose said.

    2023: Presidential aspirants above 70yrs should rethink – Makinde

    Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has urged presidential aspirants above 70 years to have a rethink ahead of 2023 general elections.

    Makinde made this disclosure on Tuesday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

    He spoke during the 65th birthday anniversary and thanksgiving service of Rev Samson Ayokunle, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and launching of a ministry.

    Recalled that former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu; and former Vice President of Nigeria, Abubakar Atiku, have indicated interest to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

    Tinubu had told Buhari that he will contest on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

    Atiku on the other hand had said that he would contest on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

    But, Makinde, who is a chieftain of the PDP has charged Nigerians to choose wisely in 2023.

    He advised them to elect people that have the energy to serve the country.

    “We have seen a lot of elder statesmen who want to run this country at age 75 or 78. I want them to think twice and I am saying to the people of Oyo State and Nigeria that this world is not easy.

    “It is possible for you to delegate, ask people to go all over the place but when they are reporting to you, if something has not been added, a few things may have been removed,” he said.

    “We are in election season basically and what I will say to us as a people is that we need to choose wisely and elect the people who have the energy to truly serve the country.”

    Oshiomhole denies calling Makinde ‘over hyped social media governor’

    Adams Oshiomhole, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has denied tweets describing Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State ‘an over hyped social media governor’.

    The tweets ascribed to Oshiomhole denigrated the governor amongst other issues.

    However, the former, in a statement signed by his media aide, Victor Oshioke on Sunday, distanced himself from the handle.

    The APC National Chairman described the Twitter handle as fake.

    According to the former Comrade governor, the handle is not operated by him or any of his aides.

    The statement reads: “The attention of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has been drawn to a series of tweets from a twitter account @A_Oshiomhole commenting on recent national issues. Specifically, there was a tweet that originated from this account on January 20, 2022 which seem to insinuate that H. E. Seyi Makinde, Executive Governor of Oyo State is an “Overhyped Social Media Governor.”

    “We wish to alert the general public that this twitter account is fake as it is not operated by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole or any of his aides.”

    The APC chieftain stressed that he holds Makinde in high esteem; hence has no reason to disparage him privately or publicly.

    “Let it be on record that all tweets that have originated from this account or will originate from it in the future do not represent the opinions or sentiments of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.”

    Oshiomhole also disassociated himself from some Twitter handles carrying his names and photographs.

    “Some of them are: @adamsoshiomhole, @Oshiomhole, @adamsosh, @_adamsoshiomole, @adamsOshiomhol, @Adamsoshiomol4, @Adamsoshiomol5”

    Disclosing his handle, the former APC National Chairman said his “official handle which will be verified soon is @aoshiomhole.”
