Chelsea reject approach from Man City for Cole Palmer

Chelsea have reportedly turned down a massive €170 Million from rivals Man City for the services of star player Cole Palmer, demanding £250 Million.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Chelsea wasted no time in rejecting Man City’s offer for the 23-year-old and have no intention of letting him go any time soon.

The report adds that the West London club sent back a counter-offer of £250 Million, which would make Palmer the most expensive player in the sport’s history.

Palmer has made no indication that he is interested in leaving Chelsea having grown into one of the best players in the Premier League during his short time at Stamford Bridge.

Now an established England international, Palmer played a key role as Chelsea won both the Europa Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup, scoring 18 goals and providing 13 assists in his 52 games.

Transfer: City willing to sell six players this summer

Manchester City are ready to offload as many as SIX senior players in a clearout this summer.

The Athletic says defender John Stones and veteran midfielder Ilkay Gundogan headline the list of those up for sale.

Mateo Kovacic is also being touted to clubs across Europe.

Meanwhile, prospects Nico O’Reilly, Claudio Echeverri and Oscar Bobb can also leave for the right price.

The latter three could leave for loan, however, rather than be sold in the coming weeks.

Why Grealish may leave Man City – Guardiola reveals

Pep Guardiola denied falling out with Jack Grealish but admitted the winger might leave Manchester City.

During the 2024-25 season, the Englishman’s game time at Etihad Stadium dropped, totaling just 715 minutes across 20 Premier League matches.

When asked about Grealish being left out of the final game, the Spaniard responded:  “It was selection. The last two months, I’ve had to leave five or six players at home every time.

“This time, I decided it was these guys. No more than that. Of course, Jack has to play. Jack is an unbelievable player who has to play football every single day, every three days.

“It didn’t happen this season and last season neither, they need to do it with us or in another place. But that is a question of Jack, his agent and the club. If he stays, we’ll be fine, he will fight like he fought since day one when he arrived.”

De Bruyne reveals tears, Guardiola clash

Kevin De Bruyne said he was filled with emotion when Manchester City beat Real Madrid on their way to winning the Champions League.

The Belgian scored a stunning goal at the Bernabeu to secure a 1-1 draw for the Citizens before going to win 4-0 in the return leg, reached the final, and beat Inter 1-0 to win the title.

During the second leg against Madrid, De Bruyne was seen shouting “shut up” toward his manager Pep Guardiola after being told to pass the ball.

“It’s probably one of the best weeks and the worst that I’d ever had in my life. I remember we played on the Tuesday and my wife’s grandfather, who was really close to us, was dealing with cancer,” De Bruyne told the club media.

“Obviously he was not really good and I think a lot of people already said goodbye. I was basically the only one who didn’t say goodbye so on Sunday I flew to Belgium to say goodbye.

“He was in really bad pain, then on Monday I had to fly here, train in the morning, then fly to Madrid and then on the Monday evening he died.

“It was a really emotional time, then obviously the next Sunday I had to go before the other Madrid game on Sunday or Monday to attend the funeral.

“Then at the time of his funeral my grandmother died so I had to drive five hours to say goodbye to her, it was an absolute mess. I just played on pure emotion, no sleep. There’s that clip where I got angry with Pep in the Madrid game because I was all over the place. I did what I had to do to play football.”

Sell players or I quit – Guardiola threatens Man City

Pep Guardiola says he’ll quit Manchester City unless his squad is reduced in size for next season.

Guardiola was speaking after victory over Bournemouth on Tuesday night.

Despite City’s strength in depth, Guardiola wants to work with a leaner squad next term.

He said: “I said to the club I don’t want that (a bigger squad).

“I don’t want to leave five or six players in the freezer. I don’t want that. I will quit. Make a shorter squad, I will stay.”

    “I don’t want that”

City’s manager admits he is finding increasingly difficult to leave accomplished players out of his matchday squads.

Guardiola also stated: “Maybe (for) three, four months we couldn’t select 11 players, we didn’t have defenders, it was so difficult. After people come back but next season it cannot be like that.

“As a manager I cannot train 24 players and every time I select I have to have four, five, six stay in Manchester at home because they cannot play. This is not going to happen. I said to the club. I don’t want that.”

FA Cup: Pep Guardiola furious after Man City defeat

Man City manager Pep Guardiola was in no mood to speak in depth regarding the VAR controversy in their 1-0 FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Eberechi Eze’s 16th minute goal proved decisive as Crystal Palace secured the first piece of major silverware in their history.

Perhaps the biggest talking point of the game came at the other end of the pitch, however, after Dean Henderson appeared to handle the ball outside of the box, denying Erling Haaland a goal scoring opportunity.

VAR intervened and decided against giving Henderson his marching orders, something Guardiola strongly disagreed with, storming the pitch after the final whistle to confront the goalkeeper.

Speaking to the press after the game, Guardiola was in no mood to talk in depth about the situation, simply saying: “Ask the referee.”

On why Omar Marmoush took the penalty over Haaland, he added: “I don’t know, I didn’t speak to them. They made a decision. They decide.”

Relegated Southampton shut out lifeless Man City

Relegated Southampton shut out lifeless Manchester City to move past the Premier League record low mark of 11 points with a goalless draw at St Mary’s.

This season’s Saints are now up to 12 points to ensure Derby County’s record low from the 2007-08 season remains intact for at least another year.

City could have moved level on points with second-placed Arsenal with a win but served up a dismal attacking display a week before their FA Cup final against Crystal Palace.

They stay in third place but the dropped points on the south coast could prove costly in a tight race for a top-five finish and a place in the Champions League next season.

Erling Haaland returned from injury but offered little as Pep Guardiola’s side were content to play at walking pace against an admittedly packed Southampton defence, and looked devoid of ideas for most of the game.

Defender Manuel Akanji headed wide from a corner and Bernardo Silva saw a shot hacked off the line by Saints captain Jack Stephens.

Saints goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale was only called into serious action inside the last few minutes, clawing away a header from Ruben Dias before Omar Marmoush rattled the crossbar from long range.

But there were cheers from the stoic home crowd at the whistle as the hosts held on for just a third clean sheet all season.

  • Man City strike twice late on to beat Everton

Man City strike twice late on to beat Everton

Manchester City remain on track to qualify for next season’s Champions League after winning at Everton with two late goals.

An uninspiring contest looked to be heading for a drab draw before being brought to life with six minutes remaining when young full-back Nico O’Reilly stole in from close range to convert Matheus Nunes’ cutback.

Substitute Mateo Kovacic added a second in injury time on the stretch as Pep Guardiola’s men climbed to fourth in the table, four points clear of sixth-placed Chelsea, who face neighbours Fulham on Sunday.

The first half was often flat and made for a poor spectacle, with Everton’s best chance going the way of centre-back James Tarkowski, who rose highest to James Garner’s corner and flicked a header against the post.

On the stroke of half-time, City could have gone ahead with a rapid break forward but Kevin de Bruyne saw his goalbound strike brilliantly cleared off the line by Jake O’Brien’s diving header.

Savinho’s low drive was kept out by Jordan Pickford’s sharp save in the second period, before City had the final say.

  • Man City rediscover best form in win against Palace

Man City rediscover best form in win against Palace

Manchester City completed a remarkable comeback, coming from 2-0 down to beat Crystal Palace 5-2 and end the Eagles’ eight-match unbeaten away run.

With how this season’s gone for Manchester City, Pep Guardiola probably can’t wait for it to come to an end.

His side are still battling for a top-four spot though, and their chances took a hit inside 10 minutes, when a sweeping Palace move culminated in Ismaïla Sarr squaring for the unmarked Eberechi Eze to tap home at the far post.

City ought to have drawn level within minutes when the departing Kevin De Bruyne freed Omar Marmoush in behind, but he was thwarted by the midriff of Dean Henderson when one-on-one.

Guardiola felt Chris Richards pulled Marmoush at the vital moment as he went to shoot and felt he should’ve been sent off.

His mood won’t have been helped soon after then, when Richards climbed highest inside the area to head home Adam Wharton’s corner from inside the six-yard box.

He must’ve been feeling worse still when Eze swept home a third, but fortunately for the Spaniard, the offside flag spared his side’s blushes.

City took full advantage of that reprieve too, halving the deficit shortly after the half-hour mark through De Bruyne, who crashed a 30-yard free-kick in off the post.

James McAtee should’ve equalised almost straight from the restart, but with City’s tails firmly up, they didn’t have to wait too much longer for a leveller.

There was an element of fortune to how the ball fell to Marmoush inside the area, but there was nothing lucky about the finish as he leathered home from six yards out.

The comeback should’ve been complete before the break, but within two minutes of the restart, City had the job done.

There was an element of simplicity about it, as De Bruyne teed up Mateo Kovačić on the edge of the area who simply swept the ball into the bottom corner.

McAtee had spurned at least two great chances to mark his inclusion today, and he did eventually get his goal as he burst in behind to latch onto Ederson’s measured ball in behind, bringing the ball down, rounding Henderson and rolling into an empty net.

City looked close to their irrepressible best at times today, and duly added a fifth goal 10 minutes from time, with Nico O’Reilly providing it as he volleyed home from the edge of the area. That rounded off a great win for City, who have now heaped a wealth of pressure on their top-four rivals to perform later this weekend.

Man City held by Brighton in EPL clash

Manchester City stumbled again in the battle to secure a return to the Champions League as they were pegged back twice by fellow top-five challengers Brighton in an entertaining encounter at Etihad Stadium.

Erling Haaland became the first player to reach 100 Premier League goal involvements in fewer than 100 games when he marked his 94th appearance in the competition with his 84th goal by sending Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen the wrong way with his 11th-minute penalty.

In a game of superb goals, Pervis Estupinan levelled with a curling free-kick that bounced in off a post, although City keeper Stefan Ortega, in for injured first-choice Ederson, did not cover himself in glory as he initially moved to his right before changing direction and eventually watching the ball go in with a shocked look on his first.

Omar Marmoush levelled with a superb 20-yard strike into the bottom corner, only for City’s brittle defence to let them down again three minutes after the restart as Abdukodir Khusanov diverted Jack Hinshelwood’s effort into his own net.

In a frenzied finish, City manager Pep Guardiola grew increasingly irritated at referee Simon Hooper following challenges on Josko Gvardiol and Bernardo Silva, who had to be replaced 18 minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Nico Gonzalez hit a post as the hosts pressed but it was Brighton, who have never won an away game against City, who should have claimed victory, only for Carlos Baleba to balloon a shot over the bar when he had arrived with a perfectly timed run to meet Joao Pedro’s cross unmarked in a central position 12 yards out.
