Barca capable of signing Man City players – Guardiola

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola admits transfer business could be done with former club Barcelona.

Barca are eyeing a swoop for Sterling, 26, with reports suggesting that a player-plus-cash deal involving Frenkie de Jong may be on the cards.

Sterling’s future has been up in the air recently, with the England international saying that he would consider a move away from the Premier League champions if he is offered more game time elsewhere.

While Guardiola did not reference Sterling specifically, he admitted at a golf charity event in Spain this week that he cannot rule out a move to Barcelona for any of his players.

“Honestly I have no idea,” he said. “I don’t know anything. Not that I would tell you anyway.

“If Barcelona are interested in any of our players, I am convinced that they can get them. Barca continues to be an attractive club, more than attractive. The city, the club, the history and this for the trainers, for the players always seduces a lot.

“If Barcelona interests one of our players, they will set up the machinery into operation, it is a liner.

“Barca can use their media to influence signings. That’s the thing about Barcelona; they can do what they want, good or bad.”

EPL: Pep Guardiola reveals tactics behind Man Utd win

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says their possession game was a tactic to win at Manchester United today.

City bossed the game and won 2-0 via an Eric Bailly own goal and a Bernardo Silva effort.

Guardiola spoke of Phil Foden’s performance before explaining their possession game on the day: “More to come – he is so young. We play more games of our life. The City Blues, we know how important it is.

“Here at Old Trafford always a good performance in general since we are together, We have won many times, much more than at any other stadium. Solid performance, good game and deserved victory. Three more points.

“You have to put the ball in the fridge. A lot of passes, a lot of passes. Except 10 minutes in the middle when I thought we lose stupid ball, really good.

“The move is the ball, everyone has to be in their position. When you move much, not good. The ball comes where we are.”

Asked of City should have scored more, he continued: “It is OK. I am so demanding, we are so demanding for ourselves but I am very pleased. This is the game we needed.

“They [Manchester United] are so dangerous. That is why we had a game with a lot of control. If you let them run at Old Trafford it is a little bit like Anfield. They are built for that.

“We played the game we needed today. You have to play quick, to move the ball and do the touches every player need but also try to put the ball in the pocket.

“The game was 2-0 and everything was comfortable. I felt didn’t need to change.

“Three games now 27 left. We dropped points at home. Right now Chelsea are unstoppable. We know we cannot drop much points to be close to them but against the big six we performed well.

“The most important is we came to Old Trafford and can say these guys played good. This is what I am happy the most after six years here. We tried to play our game.”

EPL: I need a derby goal today – Jesus

Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus is desperate to score in today’s derby at Manchester United.

The Brazilian forward has scored in big games against Chelsea, Liverpool and Real Madrid but is yet to net against United.

“I think what’s missing is goal at a derby,” he told mancity.com.

“I hope to have again the opportunity to be part of it and try to score. I always try to.

“Sometimes I hit the post, others it was offside, but as I said, I hope it comes and when it does it well help my team-mates.”

Man City will never be bigger than Man Utd – Solskjaer

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists they remain the biggest club in the city.

United have fallen behind over the last decade, winning one Premier League title to Manchester City’s five.

But when asked if he could ever see City eclipsing United, Solskjaer replied: “No, I can’t. The thing is, you have to have respect for what they’ve done in the last 10 years — even more so in the last four or five, with how dominant they’ve been in England and Europe. But we are Manchester United, we are always going to come back. I think we are the No 1 club in Manchester and that also probably means in the world.”

On Saturday at noon, United face City in the 186th derby looking for a win to put them level with Pep Guardiola’s side in the Premier League table.

Solskjaer insisted his team have put their 5-0 humiliation by Liverpool a fortnight ago behind them, adding: “We’ve taken the flak and we deserved it because it was nowhere near good enough on many levels, and now we have to play another very good team. It will show if we have learned enough.”

EPL: How you beat Man City… – Zaha

Crystal Palace attacker Wilfried Zaha was delighted with victory at Manchester City.

Zaha and Conor Gallagher struck for the visitors, which had Aymeric Laporte sent off.

Zaha says Crystal Palace succeeded in stopping Manchester City playing as they secured a clean-sheet victory at the Etihad.

“It was just about getting in their faces and not letting them play,” he said in his post-match interview. “We know how good they are, but today was about us not letting them play, and showing them what we can do. That’s what we did.

“I feel like we’re a threat going forwards, but the difference you see now is that we keep the ball from the back. We keep the ball around the pitch and we make our chances. We’re now exploiting the talent we have up-front and all around the pitch.

“I scuffed it [for the opening goal] but a goal is a goal. I was just buzzing that I saw it go in, and that’s the way you want it to start. I was happy.”

Crystal Palace stun Man City at Etihad Stadium

Wilfried Zaha became the first player to score 50 top-flight goals for Crystal Palace as 10-man Manchester City suffered a shock defeat at Etihad Stadium.

Zaha struck after just six minutes when Conor Gallagher robbed Aymeric Laporte inside his own half before Gallagher wrapped up the points when he fired home two minutes from time.

Laporte was red-carded by referee Andre Marriner in first-half stoppage time when he committed a professional foul by bringing down Zaha 35 yards from the City goal.

Even a man down, the hosts remained a goal threat and Gabriel Jesus thought he had levelled when he turned home Phil Foden’s superb far-post cross, only for video assistant referee Lee Mason to rule the England forward was offside in the build-up.

City fans were infuriated by what they saw as time-wasting from Palace, which started in the opening period, and manager Pep Guardiola was less than impressed with what he saw too, judging by the number of times he spoke to fourth official Anthony Taylor.

But Palace were a danger on the break, with Jordan Ayew and Gallagher both wasting decent chances before Gallagher finished Michael Olise’s lay-off to give Patrick Vieira’s men victory and end a frustrating run of four consecutive Premier League draws.

West Ham knock Man City out of Carabao Cup

Holders Manchester City were knocked out of the Carabao Cup after West Ham United won 5-3 on penalties in front of an ecstatic London Stadium.

Pep Guardiola has made the competition his own by claiming the past four Carabao Cups.

But City will not be the winners since 2016 thanks to West Ham’s penalty heroics.

Phil Foden fired wide to give the Hammers the advantage in the shootout.

Said Benrahma then stepped up to score the decisive penalty.

Despite peppering West Ham’s goal with 25 shots, Guardiola’s side are now out of the Carabao Cup.

  • Man City set price for Barca target Raheem Sterling

Man City set price for Barca target Raheem Sterling

Manchester City have set their price for Raheem Sterling as Barcelona monitor developments.

Marca says City have told any club interested in signing Sterling that they will have to pay £67m to get a deal done.

Barcelona’s need for a new winger is exacerbated by Ousmane Dembele’s contract situation – his deal is set to expire at the end of the season. The club could look to move him on in January for a cut price to avoid losing their £135million signing on a free transfer.

Recent reports in Spain have linked Barcelona with an initial loan move for Sterling because their financial woes mean they could not afford to pay a huge fee for the former Liverpool star at present.

Sterling has 18 months remaining on his current contract at the Etihad Stadium but has opted against opening discussions over an extension until his short-term future is resolved.

I can’t guarantee Sterling playing time – Guardiola

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has defended his management of Raheem Sterling.

Following the news that Sterling may be prepared to Manchester City in search of regular football, Guardiola said he cannot “assure” players of how much they will play.

“I cannot assure how many minutes players are going to play, they have to show it on the grass,” he said.

“That is the best moment, not for Raheem, for all of them.

“They are all involved. What I want for Raheem and for everyone is to be happy. They have to be satisfied, and if they are not, they are free to make decisions that are best for them, their family and everyone who loves them.

“As a football player, they all want to play 90 minutes, but I cannot assure them, they have to prove it in training.”

  • Barca in talks to sign Raheem Sterling from Man City

Barca in talks to sign Raheem Sterling from Man City

La Liga side Barcelona are in talks with Manchester City attacker Raheem Sterling.

Sport reports that Barcelona are looking to bring the forward to the Nou Camp on loan.

Mateu Alemany, the Spanish club’s sporting director, has been in Manchester to hold talks regarding a potential switch.

The Catalans saw the likes of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann leave in the summer, leaving them light in attack.

Sterling is thought to be open to the move, understanding that he can be a leading light at Barcelona due to their lack of options in the final third.

Sterling has grown frustrated at his lack of minutes under manager Pep Guardiola.

His current deal is due to enter its final 18 months and Arsenal are thought to be keen.
