  • Glazers to resume Man Utd sale talks

Glazers to resume Man Utd sale talks

The Glazer family’s plans to sell Manchester United remain on track.

Bidders will be invited for a new round of talks next week.

Both Qatari Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos have had no contact from United since submitting new offers of around £5bn a fortnight ago.

The Sun says the Glazers, however, now want to discover how serious the main bidders actually are about coming close to their £6bn valuation by inviting them for a further conversation.

It is said the Americans are still demanding £6bn to sell United.

If an offer at the right level is not made, the sale could be called off, with the family said to be “open minded” about their options.

  • Martial important at Man Utd but fragile – Ten Hag

Martial important at Man Utd but fragile – Ten Hag

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag concedes he remains wary of starting Anthony Martial after victory over Brentford.

Martial, a 70th minute substitute, has missed much of the season with hip, back, Achilles and hamstring injuries – playing just 11 Premier League games this term.

Asked why Martial didn’t start, Ten Hag replied: “He was an option but I don’t think he was fit enough.

“Also it’s prevention. Obviously, when you see his record over the last years you have to be really careful to plan it.

“Even then still he can be fragile physically.

“So I don’t want to take that risk because I know when he is on the pitch he has a great impact on our performance.”

But Ten Hag claimed he is “happy” Martial is back and, once he’s back to full fitness, is excited at his attacking options.

The Dutchman claimed: “We have a very good frontline… a lot of creativity, a lot of intelligence, a lot of pace, a lot of togetherness…

“I think we can create more and then we will have more of a threat.

“And the balance of that frontline will be good.

“But obviously you have to play more together. So happy it looks like (Martial)’s back and hopefully he stays fit until the end of the season and we can play him.

“But we have seen with other players we have got results, we proved that… Martial is often not available but still we are there.”

  • ‘I’m a better man’ – Ronaldo reflects on Man Utd exit

‘I’m a better man’ – Ronaldo reflects on Man Utd exit

Cristiano Ronaldo has declared himself a “better man” for going through this season’s controversial departure from Manchester United.

His final months at the club were filled with trouble as he struggled to star under new manager Erik ten Hag.

Ronaldo even refused to come on as a substitute against Tottenham before his appearance on Piers Morgan’s TalkTV show.

In that he criticised the Dutch manager and the club’s Glazer ownership, leading to his contract being mutually terminated.

He has since joined Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr on a staggering £173-million-a-year deal.

During a Portugal press conference ahead of their international fixtures, Ronaldo said of his issues at the Red Devils: “Sometimes, you have to go through some things to see who is on my side.

“I have no problem saying, I had a bad career run, but there’s no time for regrets.

“Life goes on and, doing well or not, it was part of my growth.

“When we are at the top of the mountain, we often cannot see what is below.

“Now, I’m more prepared and learning that was important because I had never been through this, like in the last few months.

    “Now I’m a better man.”

  • EPL: I slept well after dropping Ronaldo – Ten Hag

EPL: I slept well after dropping Ronaldo – Ten Hag

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag says he “slept well” after dropping Cristiano Ronaldo for victory over Liverpool earlier this season.

Embarrassed by defeats against Brighton and Brentford, the Dutchman made the bold and some thought a brazen move to drop Cristiano Ronaldo and captain Harry Maguire.

United fans turned up at Old Trafford fearing a serious beating from Jurgen Klopp’s team. Instead, United won 2-1 with a brand of thrilling counter-attacking football spearheaded by Marcus Rashford.

“I do consider big decisions like that, definitely,” he says ahead of today’s trip to Anfield. “I have to look at the impact they make, not only in the short term but also for the longer term. You always have to think strategically as a manager and face the consequences. I am aware of it but that is my job and my responsibility.

“I had reasons to choose that team against Liverpool. They were obvious. And I knew the reaction if it had been a negative outcome, which is always possible in football.

“But I am not worrying. I sleep well also in those nights. I have to take the decisions in respect of the club and the team. I have to stand by those decisions.”

Ten Hag doesn’t beat about the bush when asked if he inherited a lack of discipline on arrival.

“There was and I don’t have to lie about it,” he says. “Top players like structure, not only on the pitch. So you need some rules.

“I think it’s obvious in every organisation that when there are no rules and no discipline in taking those rules seriously, then you create a mess.

“That’s not only at a football club but in every job, also in broadcasting or newspapers. It was quite obvious because I could see on the pitch what was going on.”

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen says he’ll consider his future at the end of the season.

The Nigerian is being watched by Manchester United and Barcelona.

But he said: “I just want to help my team to win matches and win trophies.

“At the end of the season, we will see what is going to happen, but that is not up to me.

“It is for the club to decide.”

  • Xavi admits injury concerns ahead of Man Utd clash

Xavi admits injury concerns ahead of Man Utd clash

Barcelona coach Xavi admits he has injury concerns facing Manchester United in their Europa League playoff second-leg.

The tie is delicately poised following last week’s thrilling 2-2 draw at the Nou Camp.

And Barca boss Xavi is facing a potential selection headache ahead of Thursday’s return fixture.

Gavi’s yellow card in the first leg means he is suspended, while Pedri is also out after he limped off in the same game.

But elsewhere, Xavi has been left sweating on whether key duo Robert Lewandowski and Frenkie de Jong will be match fit.

The Barca gaffer said: “Frenkie de Jong and Robert Lewandowski played more minutes.

“I think they have been playing a lot of minutes, that’s why I made the changes. The other day Pedri was injured, and we can’t afford more injuries.

“Let’s prepare for Thursday’s game from tomorrow and see how tired they are.”

  • Man Utd plot EPL transfer record fee for Osimhen

Man Utd plot EPL transfer record fee for Osimhen

Premier League club Manchester United are firm on signing Napoli star Victor Osimhen after making him a priority summer target.

La Gazzetta dello Sport says United are prepared to break the bank and match the British transfer record Chelsea paid for Enzo Fernandez by launching a £107m bid for Victor Osimhen.

The Nigerian international has become United’s top summer transfer target off the back of impressive performances that have seen him score 16 goals and become Serie A’s top scorer.

Osimhen continued his stunning form with a brace in Napoli’s 3-0 away win over Spezia on Sunday which saw them extend their lead at the top of the Italian league to 13 points.

United first-team manager Erik ten Hag has had to rely on an injury-prone Anthony Martial and January loanee Wout Weghorst to lead the line in United’s three-pronged attack this season.

But the Dutchman is keen to bring in a new superstar striker in the summer as he attempts to build on what has been a brilliant stellar debut campaign in charge of the Red Devils.

And Napoli believe the Premier League giants will match the £107m asking price inserted in the 24-year-old’s existing contract.

  • Proud to have already made history at Man Utd – Sabitzer

Proud to have already made history at Man Utd – Sabitzer

Marcel Sabitzer is excited to be a Manchester United player.

The former RB Leipzig captain has arrived on-loan from Bayern Munich, with Christian Eriksen having been ruled out until late April or May with an ankle problem.

“I will give my all for the jersey,” he told manutd.com.

“I’m very happy to be here, I will give my best and we will see what happens, but I am here to win trophies.”

Sabitzer is already well-versed on the club, having previously played against us for RB Leipzig in 2020.

But now Sabitzer is very happy to be on the other side.

“Manchester United is a big club with fantastic fans,” he continued. “Old Trafford is a big stadium, I’ve played there once – it was empty – but I felt it was very nice.

“It is a great feeling to have the badge on my chest and I’m looking forward [to it].”

In his own words, Sabitzer is a ‘box-to-box player and creative in the offensive third.’

He adds: “You can have a lot of expectations from me: good shots, duels.

“I’m excited to be on the pitch at Old Trafford.”

The 28-year-old is the first Austrian to join Manchester United’s senior team.

    “That’s history,” he said.

“I talked with my agents before, I’m the first one. I feel proud and I will do my best to be a good Austrian player.”

  • Attempted rape charges against Mason Greenwood dropped

Attempted rape charges against Mason Greenwood dropped

Charges of attempted rape and assault have been dropped against Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood.

The 21-year-old was arrested in January 2022 amid allegations surrounding images and videos.

He was later charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The Crown Prosecution Service said the charges were discontinued after key witnesses withdrew their involvement.

A spokesman said: “We have a duty to keep cases under continuous review.

“In this case a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction. In these circumstances, we are under a duty to stop the case.

“We have explained our decision to all parties.

“We would always encourage any potential victims to come forward and report to police and we will prosecute wherever our legal test is met.”

Within hours of the allegations surfacing at the beginning of 2022, the forward, who has made one appearance for England, was suspended from playing or training with the Old Trafford club.

In a statement, a Manchester United representative said the club noted “the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped”.

“The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps,” they said.

“We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.”

Greater Manchester Police said it was “only fair” to announce Greenwood would no longer face criminal proceedings.

Ch Supt Michaela Kerr said the decision had “not been taken lightly”.

She added: “I would, however, like to use this opportunity to reiterate the force’s commitment to investigating allegations of violence against women and girls and supporting those affected, regardless of their circumstances, throughout what can be a hard and upsetting time for them.”

  • Ten Hag reveals central plans for Jadon Sancho

Ten Hag reveals central plans for Jadon Sancho

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag sees Jadon Sancho playing centrally in the future.

Sancho, 22, came off the bench in United’s 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford. Second-half goals from Anthony Martial and Fred were enough to secure United’s spot in the Carabao Cup final – their first Wembley cup final since May 2018.

Sancho received a brilliant reception from United fans, who will be hoping he can fulfil his potential under Ten Hag. T

Ten Hag was asked about Sancho’s central role during his post-match interview with Sky Sports.

He said: “I think we have done that before. You move Bruno out and create also a different dynamic in the team, that is what we intended to do.

“Jadon, I know he can play as a 10 as well. He can play as a winger – he can play as a 10 – but often we mix it around and that is what I like. The position has to be occupied and it’s about the players keeping discipline to do that.”
