Transfer: Man Utd send scouts to watch Nigerian striker

Manchester United sent scouts to watch Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen at Galatasaray as they search for a new forward for the summer transfer window.

The Napoli winger who netted 26 goals in 32 games during the Neapolitans’ title-winning season and was named African Player of the Year for 2023 is currently on loan with the Turkish giants who are chasing the title this season. United are keen to bolster their attacking options this summer and he could be first on their shopping list.

Osimhen scored twice against Rizespor on Monday night to extend his club’s lead at the top of the table to six points. United sent scouts to watch the Nigerian in action as they seek a new striker despite signing Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee in recent windows who have failed to make an impression so far at the club.

The 26-year-old has previously spoken of his desire to play in England and the Premier League which led to a number of clubs to enquire about him before being put off by his £113million release clause at the time.

“Future in the Premier League? Of course, I would like to play it one day, for now I have other plans for my career. When the time comes you will know everything.”

If United were to bid for the impressive forward then they would have to trim down some of their current squad to make funds available so that they comply with financial rules. The club may also have to sell or loan out one of their existing strikers to make room for his arrival.

Injury: Man Utd star undergoes surgery

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has undergone surgery to repair his torn ACL.

The centre half is expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering the injury against Crystal Palace on February 2.

Martinez went down following an innocuous clash with Palace winger Ismaila Sarr late in the game.

“Licha is really important for us, not just as a football player, but as a character, especially in this hard moment,” boss Ruben Amorim said earlier this month.

“Now, it’s time (for United) to help Licha.

“I think it’s a bad situation. Let’s wait to assess things with the doctor, but I think it’s a serious situation.”

There is hope Lisandro will be available again in August.

5 players set to return to help Tottenham ahead of Man Utd clash

Five first-team players are all pushing to return to full training for Tottenham this week as they prepare to face Manchester United.

After Spurs were eliminated by Aston Villa in the FA Cup, manager Ange Postecoglou opened up on how he hoped to have a number of players back available in a game that could decide his future at the club.

He said he hopes for a “reset” and that “three, maybe four, players back this week, with the possibility of one or two others in the week or two after that”. Spurs have fallen to 14th on the table and have crashed out of both domestic cups in the space of four days as the manager relies on the vast injuries as an excuse.

However, Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie, James Maddison, Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner are all set to return to the side which will give Postecoglou a major boost in the coming weeks after many have called for him to step down from his position. Striker Dominic Solanke is behind the five stars with Postecoglou forecasting he would be out for around six weeks with the knee injury.

The likes of Richarlison, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero are all ruled out, however, but after Postecoglou allowed his players Monday, Tuesday and Thursday off those who have returned may get the chance to get back up to speed before Sunday’s game. The Tottenham head coach explained how injuries have disrupted his season and have had a major effect on their inconsistent form.

“Two and a half months of asking 18-year-olds and 17-year-olds and senior players, with no rest, to play Thursday, Sunday, Thursday, Sunday, Thursday, Sunday, Thursday, Sunday,” he said. “If you think that is not at all a factor of how this team is performing then there’s nothing else I can say. There’s nothing else I can explain.”

EPL: I know I’m risking Man Utd job – Amorim

Manager Ruben Amorim admitted his job is at risk after Manchester United’s decision not to sign a striker in the transfer window.

With United struggling in 13th place and losing five of their last six home games, Amorim acknowledged that sticking to his system without adding attacking reinforcements was a gamble.

He conceded that poor results have increased the pressure on his position ahead of their FA Cup clash with Leicester.

“I knew when I chose this profession that you have the risk of results,” said Amorim.

”We are fighting for our jobs until the summer.

“I knew when I came here, I looked at the schedule, I looked at the team, and I understood my decision of changing everything in the middle of the season, without new signings, was a danger for a coach.

“But since day one, with good results or bad results, I’ve had a clear idea of what I want to do and I take these risks because, in the end, I think it’s going to pay off.

“But I’m not naive, I’ve said that many times. This is a sport of results and we are in a difficult situation. But the board already knew and I explained all the risks. Everything that has happened, I explained to the board and they said the same thing: ‘We need to start now – we’re doing that.’

“But I understand, at this moment, with a lot of losses, especially at home, that the environment is really hard. We’re taking some risks, but it’s the way we want to proceed. It’s hard to turn things around in just a few games.

“It’s going to be like that, really hard until the end of the season, but we are taking that risk, because we want a different thing in our team and different profiles. That was my decision.”

EPL: Crystal Palace pile on more pain for Man Utd

Manchester United suffered their fifth home defeat in six Premier League games as Jean-Philippe Mateta’s second-half double gave Crystal Palace their fourth victory in six seasons at Old Trafford.

As Marcus Rashford prepares to leave for Aston Villa, United head coach Ruben Amorim chose to leave out £100m-worth of attacking talent in Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee and instead use Kobbie Mainoo as a false nine.

Despite a bright start, the experiment didn’t work and Palace were looking dangerous before Eberechi Eze, who was supposed to be missing the game due to a foot injury, came on as a substitute and floated an excellent 64th-minute free-kick deep into the penalty area.

Maxence Lacroix’s header came back off the bar but with Andre Onana at full stretch, the Cameroon international keeper was unable to prevent Mateta turning the bouncing ball into an empty net.

Mateta took his Premier League tally to 10 for the season – and six in five games – when he tapped home Daniel Munoz’s low cross in the final minute.

A disappointing day got worse for the hosts as central defender Lisandro Martinez was stretchered off in tears after suffering what appeared to be a serious knee injury following a tangle with Ismaila Sarr.

The result meant Palace have won three successive Premier League away games for the first time since 2019 and extended their recent impressive recent record away from Selhurst Park. Oliver Glasner’s side have now collected 16 points on their travels since the beginning of December, more than any other top flight side.

United meanwhile slipped back to 13th place, having still failed to record successive league wins under Amorim.

United have also now lost seven of their first 13 home league matches this season – their joint-most at this stage of a league campaign and matching a mark set in 1893-94.

Man Utd players must take responsibility – Maguire defends Amorim

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire admits he’s enjoying playing for manager Ruben Amorim.

Maguire has seen his form revived under the Portuguese.

He said, “I’ve been really impressed ever since he came in through the door.

“He really demands a lot. Tactically, he is really good and he really knows what he wants to free his team and players.

“We are still in the process at the moment, and in some matches we have not been good enough.

“But we players must take responsibility for that. We all need to perform better.”

Man Utd: Amorim, Rashford no longer on speaking terms

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim and Marcus Rashford aren’t on speaking terms, it has been claimed.

Amorim took fresh aim at Rashford after victory against Fulham on Sunday, claiming his performance in training didn’t warrant inclusion in United’s matchday squad.

The Guardian says the pair are now not on speaking terms. Thus, the parties no longer have one-on-one conversations.

Shortly before Christmas, Rashford stated that he was ready to leave United in search of a new challenge.

Since then he has been in the matchday squad just once, without getting on the pitch.

  • Man Utd release statement after Ratcliffe is questioned over rising ticket prices

Man Utd release statement after Ratcliffe is questioned over rising ticket prices

Manchester United fans have put out an open letter to Sir Jim Ratcliffe, requesting an end to his controversial ticketing policy.

Ratcliffe’s financial decisions, including redundancies and cutting popular staff roles, have left fans and former stars disgruntled.

The new ticketing policy, which removes concessions and raises prices, has further fueled fan anger.

The letter to Ratcliffe read: “As you consider forthcoming decisions on match ticketing policies and pricing, we urge you to pause and carefully reflect on the timing, potential consequences, and long-term impact of any major changes.

“We recognise the club ultimately makes these decisions but our intention here is to offer honest counsel, some of which your employees may be reluctant to deliver to you, to help inform these decisions. We also want to put this on public record in the form of an open letter to ensure supporters understand our position too.

“Judging by your own public comments it seems you may have come to the conclusion that ticket pricing and policies are in need of a major review. However, we strongly believe that now is the worst possible time to implement significant changes. With the team struggling on the pitch and fan sentiment already at a low ebb, we all need to pull together to lift the team’s performance, not risk deepening divisions or creating further dissatisfaction.”

  • Europa: Fernandes scores late as Man Utd beat Rangers

Europa: Fernandes scores late as Man Utd beat Rangers

Bruno Fernandes marked his 50th Europa League appearance on Thursday with a stoppage-time winner as Manchester United snatched a 2-1 win over Rangers.

The win moves United  closer to the round of 16.

After Cyriel Dessers levelled in the 88th minute, Fernandes popped up with a crucial strike that will come as a huge relief to Ruben Amorim.

United had seen a first-half header from Matthijs De Ligt controversially ruled out but led through a bizarre own goal from their former back-up goalkeeper Jack Butland.

The win moves United up to fourth in the standings, two clear of the cut off for the top eight places.

But Rangers, who at least scored against United for the first time in five meetings, dropped to 13th, with the play-offs looming large.

  • Man Utd boss, Amorim smashes TV in dressing room

Man Utd boss, Amorim smashes TV in dressing room

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim’s frustrations have been revealed as he smashes a tv in the dressing room after his side lost to Brighton.

As reported by the Daily Mail and The Athletic, Amorim reportedly damaged Manchester United’s tactics screen during a lively dressing room rant at his squad who put in a dire performance against the Seagulls as they lost 3-1 at the weekend.

The Portuguese head coach is said to have accidentally caught the TV and it will need to be fixed ahead of their Europa League match against Rangers this Thursday night. Amorim was clearly furious at his side who now sit 13th in the Premier League with just one win in five games.

This victory came against bottom-of-the-league Southampton as Amad Diallo scored a hat-trick in the final moments of the game. His United side have been named the worst team in the club’s history and many have even stated that former manager Erik ten Hag has done a better job during his tenure.

Amorim will be looking to secure a victory against Scottish side Rangers on Thursday. A win would push United further up the table and firmly into the qualification spots for the next round. Another loss could raise tensions amongst the squad to new heights as the former Sporting Lisbon manager starts to feel the pressure.
