Man Utd: Ten Hag defends Rashford’s poor form

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has come to the defence of Marcus Rashford.

The England and United forward has been in the firing line for his poor displays over the past 12 months.

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer criticized Rashford on BBC’s Match of the Day, stating: Shearer said: “He’s had two games this season Marcus Rashford and he’s not had one shot at goal.

“Fifty-seven goals they (Man Utd) scored last season. That was the worst in the top half. Ruud van Nistelrooy has been brought into there. He’s going to have to work his magic somehow.”

In response, Ten Hag told reporters: “Everyone gets criticism from you guys, it doesn’t matter what we are doing, if we are winning or if we are losing.

“If I take a player off, the conclusion is I was not happy with him. But I was very happy with Rashy in pre-season, against Fulham (in the opening game) and also against Brighton.

“I didn’t take him off because his performances or level were not right – no, we had to rotate because we have good players on the bench who bring new energy.

“There will be rotation. Then there is the conclusion the player is not performing. It can be sometimes but definitely it wasn’t in this case. In this case, it was stupid analysis from the pundit.”

Premier League side Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood is eager to move to Marseille this summer.

The striker wants to switch to the Ligue 1 club on a permanent basis after a year on loan at Getafe.

Greenwood is one who United are very keen to sell, as they view him as surplus to requirements.

Per The Mirror, the two clubs are now holding talks about a transfer that would happen before pre-season.

Greenwood has not played for the club since he was charged by the CPS for an incident with his partner.

While the charges were dropped, United then conducted a six-month internal investigation and decided to loan out Greenwood instead of reintegrating him into the first team.

Manchester United investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe has admitted that he is unpopular among the club’s staff.

Since acquiring a 27.7 percent stake in the Red Devils, his INEOS group are conducting reviews of all departments at the club.

“Well, I think he… I mean, I think he’s a very sensible man. And he’s an intelligent man. I don’t know,” he said to Bloomberg when asked about Labour leader Kier Starmer, regarding the upcoming UK elections in July.

“I think you probably have to do some unpopular things to get those types of issues dealt with. It’s like at Manchester United, I’m having to do some things which are unpopular.

He added: “I mean, I think at the end-of-the day doing difficult things, and you know, a degree of unpopularity, in a funny sort of way, might make you more popular.

“Because somebody’s seeing that you’re standing up and making some difficult decisions rather than just sort of blowing with the wind a bit.”

REVEALED: Erik ten Hag makes two requests at Man Utd

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is said to have made three demands of the club.

The Dutchman has committed his future to United for the time being, but has some criteria before he agrees a new contract.

According to The Sun, Ten Hag wants Jadon Sancho sold by the club’s new investors INEOS.

He will only take back Sancho if he gets an apology for last season’s issue between the pair.

Attempts from technical director Jason Wilcox to dictate Manchester United’s playing style may not be met kindly either.

Finally, he hopes the club will bring back his forwards coach and ex-striker Benni McCarthy.
