I feel happy while on international duty – Pogba

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba admits he feels “happy” when away with France.

While not running down the atmosphere at United, Pogba says he feels more relaxed while on international duty.

He said, “Coming to the national team? It’s a window that opens. I speak with Antoine Griezmann and Raphaël Varane, we realise that the group is huge. And when we are on the field, we have fun.

“It is not that in the club, we do not do this, but here, it is not the same. We laugh. It really is a family. And the group that we have, holders or substitutes, it’s really magical. And that’s why we are happy to come to the national team. The coach has enormous confidence in us. And we trust him too.”

EPL: Man Utd board stand on Ronaldo return

Manchester United insiders are cooling talk from Portugal of a move for Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Manchester Evening News says United sources are laughing off the suggestion any deal was currently being discussed.

Ronaldo’s future at Juventus has been questioned amid reports the Italian club will look to slash their hefty wage bill at the end of the season to help ease the financial losses from the coronavirus pandemic.

As their highest earner it makes sense why Ronaldo would be the one linked with an exit, although he is currently contracted to the club until the summer of 2022.

His current contract situation at Juventus means United would not only have to match his high wage demands themselves but also pay a transfer fee to secure his exit.

Van der Vaart urges Van de Beek to get angry with Solskjaer

Former Netherlands international Rafael van der Vaart has urged Donny van de Beek to get angry with Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The 23-year-old is yet to start a Premier League game – despite United’s poor start to the season.

And Van der Vaart believes Van de Beek has to find out why after claiming that inferior players are getting into Solskjaer’s team.

Van der Vaart raged: “Wait? Patience? Would you like it if you are stuck on the bench?

“The players in front of you can’t even kick a marble and he (Solskjaer) still does not put you in the team.

“I would not be happy. I would certainly not be enjoying my football there.

“Look at the player Donny is and how he performs at international level. I would not have it.”

Man Utd in talks with Ronaldo about sensational return

Manchester United are making a sensational move for Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Juve are believed to be keen to offload the former Real Madrid star next summer.

United are claimed to be in talks with Ronaldo, according to well-respected FOX America journalist Christian Martin.

Ronaldo is claimed to be ‘considering’ the offer, with Juventus ‘willing to negotiate’ with United.

Martin tweeted his 400,000 followers: “Our sources in Manchester and Porto confirm that Manchester United tempted Cristiano Ronaldo with a return to the club for next season.

“The Portuguese star is considering it.

“Juventus will negotiate a deal it if Ronaldo asks for it.”

  • Pogba cannot be happy at Man Utd – France coach

Pogba cannot be happy at Man Utd – France coach

Paul Pogba “cannot be happy” with his situation at Old Trafford, says France manager Didier Deschamps.

Pogba has featured in 11 games for Manchester United this season but started in just five of those.

He was again on the bench at Everton last Saturday before coming on after 82 minutes in a much-needed 3-1 win for United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Pogba is with France’s squad for games against Finland, Portugal and Sweden.

“He is in a situation with his club where he cannot be happy, neither with his playing time, nor with his positioning,” said Deschamps.

“He is not in his best period, he has had a series of injuries and the Covid-19 which has hit him quite hard. He needs to find his rhythm.

“With me, there is no such concern. When a player is in discomfort in his club, obviously, he is happy to play for the France team.

“He will tell me about his feelings and, as I know him very well, it will go in a positive direction.”

Pogba, 27, re-joined United when he signed for £89m from Juventus in 2016.

The last time he was on international duty in October he said it was “a dream” for him to play for Real Madrid one day.

Later that month, United triggered the one-year option on Pogba’s contract as they extended his deal with them until 2022.

  • Fernandes admits giving up hat-trick for Cavani

Fernandes admits giving up hat-trick for Cavani

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes admits he considered going for his hat-trick before passing for Edinson Cavani to score in victory at Everton.

It marked Cavani’s first goal for the club and Fernandes declared getting their No7 off the mark was more important than his hat-trick.

Fernandes told BBC Sport: “The point is winning the game. [I set up Edinson Cavani because] for a striker it is important to score for his confidence, he will be important for us and the first goal will give him confidence.

“I don’t need to think about a hat-trick, I need to think about the future.

“Every game is important, we are not good in the league so these three points are important. We have a game in hand so we can go closer to the top of the table. We are not the best team now, and we are not the worst team after Istanbul.

“We will get better if we do the right things.”

  • EPL: Solskjaer blows hot after Man Utd win

EPL: Solskjaer blows hot after Man Utd win

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hit out at “authorities” after victory at Everton.

United won 3-1 to ease pressure on the manager, who was fuming after playing a midday game after being away in Turkey for their Champions League defeat at Istanbul Basaksehir on Wednesday night.

He snapped: “We were set up to fail. The kick-off time set us up to fail. We have been to Turkey, played loads of games this season already, we got back Thursday morning and we are playing Saturday lunchtime, it’s an absolute shambles.

“These boys deserve better. Luke Shaw has got injured because of it. It’s a hamstring which might be a long one and Marcus Rashford might be struggling.

“The authorities set us up for fail, who is responsible? We’ve had enough of that. Players this season, in these times, a pandemic, mentally and physically it’s draining. Let us play on a Sunday, there’s an international break after this, it’s a joke.”

Edinson Cavani struck a first goal for the club in injury-time and Solskjaer added: “The players were brilliant. Cavani is getting better and better.”

  • I’m not about to fall like a house of cards – Solskjaer

I’m not about to fall like a house of cards – Solskjaer

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is adamant he’s the right man for the job.

United go to Everton tomorrow on the back of consecutive defeats.

But Solskjaer is adamant he still believes in himself.

“If I don’t trust my beliefs and values, who else will?” he said. “I don’t look at one or two results and fall like a house of cards.”

Solskjaer says he is confident his players will react at Goodison Park.

“We have to be tough mentally,” he said. “We are the best and biggest club in the world. (After Wednesday) we didn’t expect anything but criticism. It is how you deal with it.”

Solskjaer says he has had ‘open and honest dialogue’ with senior club officials throughout his time as manager.

He continued: “I’ve always had a good, open, honest dialogue with the club. They have shown strong leadership and good dialogue since I’ve come in.

“It’s sunny in Manchester today and I don’t expect the wind to turn. There is always pressure and expectation. I grew up here and became a man at Manchester United.

“I learned how to deal with the good and the bad times. You’re a top coach or manager when you win and a bad one when you lose.

“I don’t look at one or two results and fall like a house of cards. It’s a setback, definitely. There has been too much made of not scoring against Arsenal or Chelsea, there has been pretty much nothing in those two games.

“It’s not too long ago we were the best thing since sliced bread when you beat Leipzig and PSG. So there’s ups and downs in football and that’s just the way it has to be.”

  • Moyes warns under-fire Man Utd manager, Solskjaer

Moyes warns under-fire Man Utd manager, Solskjaer

West Ham manager David Moyes has warned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he will need to improve results soon if he is to remain at Old Trafford.

Scrutiny on Solskjaer has been building in the wake of back-to-back defeats to Arsenal and Istanbul Basaksehir.

Fomer United boss, Moyes was sacked eight months after replacing Alex Ferguson in 2013, with his final match a 2-0 defeat at Everton, the team Man Utd face next at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Moyes knows only too well that pressure on Solskjaer will continue to build if United do not start winning games.

“All managers are under pressure,” he said on Friday.

“At Manchester United there is more pressure than any club in the world. It comes with the job. We know what happens if you don’t win enough games.”

  • Solskjaer explains benching Pogba in Champions League loss

Solskjaer explains benching Pogba in Champions League loss

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says rotation was the reason for Paul Pogba’s benching in the loss to Istanbul Basaksehir on Wednesday.

The Frenchman was brought on in the second-half but was unable to turn around the 2-1 scoreline.

“It’s just man or game management [having Paul Pogba on the bench]. We’ve got loads of games, and we’ve just rotated a few names,” Solskjaer told BT Sport.

“We want to go and win the game. We’ve had a great start in the group, and if we can go and win tonight that’s a good response from the disappointment at the weekend.”
