  • No more the war of the sexes – Owei Lakemfa

    By Owei Lakemfa.

THE Hungarian Parliament in Central Europe on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 made a startling discovery that: “The mother is a woman, the father is a man.” This is an open secret we in Africa have known for thousands of years. It took 134 Members of the Hungarian Parliament to ratify this despite the determined efforts of five parliamentarians who remain unconvinced.

The victorious parliamentarians say their intention is to protect Hungarian families, children and individuals’ rights to self-identify in accordance with their sex at birth. In giving way to religious intrusion in a secular state, the politicians said under the new law, children will be nurtured and cultured on the basis of the country’s new constitutional identity and Christian values. A fundamental part of the new law is Paragraph 1(L) which states that: “Hungary protects the institution of marriage as the association between a man and a woman and the family as the basis for the survival of the nation. The foundation of the family is marriage and the parent-child relationship. The mother is a woman, the father is a man.”

This law, in the areas of sexual relations, marriage and definition of the nuclear family, fundamentally, aligns the Hungarians and the Africans in emphasising collective, traditional and cultural rights over individualism in an increasingly globalised but fractured world.

I have come across some Africans who feel alienated in a world that seems confusing. They had been taught by the church that their traditional polygamy is not only sinful, but criminal because it is called bigamy. Now they are being taught that gayism and lesbianism which they thought were a sin and a crime, are neither sinful nor criminal, but are actually fundamental human rights, sanctioned, for instance, by The Church of England. Now, I ask, if the habitually conservative English gentry can be so radical, where can the traditional radicals seek sanctuary?

In France, a new gender war is imminent as there is an attempt at reversal of roles with women oppressing men. This creeping discrimination against men was evident in Paris with the city appointing almost twice as many women to leadership positions as men. Paris Mayor, Anne Hidalgo revealed that: “In 2018, the city hall employed 11 women and five men for management positions, meaning that 69 per cent of the appointments went to women.” This violates the French quota system which states that representatives of the same gender cannot hold more than 60 per cent of leadership positions.

Consequently, the Paris City Hall was fined 90,000 euros (109,477 dollars). This will serve as a warning to French women that they will not be allowed to ride roughshod over the Emmanuel Macrons and Dominique Strauss-Kahns of this world. It is also necessary to ensure that the gender peace treaty in France is not violated.

The Hungarians and Africans seem light years away from the world of the American, Bruce William Jenner who at 64 in 2015 called his children Kylie, Kendall, Brody, Cassandra, Brandon and Burt to declare that their father was now a woman. Bruce, now calls himself Caitlyn Marie Jenner with all former documents and organs remaining valid.

While the Obama administration had been supportive of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender, LGBT, community, the Trump administration has not. But don’t worry, help is on the way as President-Elect, Joseph Biden, credited with pushing the Obama administration to support gay marriage, is like a cowboy hero, galloping to the rescue.

He has started on a good footing by appointing former Presidential Aspirant, Pete Buttigieg as Secretary of Transport. Buttigieg who may make history as the first openly gay to make it to a cabinet rank, had in 2019, made world headlines by openly hugging his husband, Chasten Buttigieg after winning the Iowa caucuses. If he had won the American Presidential elections, would he had been referred to as Mr. President, mindful of the fact that he is a wife?

The American President-Elect has also appointed another gay, Carlos Elizondo as White House Social Secretary while Vice-President-Elect, Kamala Harris has named Karine Jean-Pierre, a Lesbian, as Chief of Staff.

In Nigeria, the most famous ‘Jenner’ is Mr. Okuneye Idris Olarenwaju better known as Bobrisky who has amassed some wealth building his image as a woman. But he states quite clearly that ‘Bobrisky’ is a business brand he built to sell his cosmetics and beauty products and that he is no transgender, but merely a cross-dresser.

In sports where marked discrimination exists especially in the prize money of female and male athletes, there are no plans to end the gender war. In fact, when the Williams sisters; Serena and Venus were playing good tennis, some in the international sports establishment concluded that they must be males and subjected them to various tests. At a point, the Head of the Russian Tennis Federation, Shamil Tarpishev said on television that the sisters are the “Williams brothers.”

Caster Semenya, the reigning 800 metres Olympic champion has been subjected to international harassment since 2009 for running quite well and dominating the tracks. The International Association of Athletics Federations, IAAF, made rules specifically to knock her off the tracks. It ruled that female athletes whose bodies produce high testosterone which is a hormone that promotes increased muscle and bone mass, must take drugs to suppress such hormone. As far as the male-dominated body is concerned, no woman should run so fast. In challenging this stereotype, she declared: “I am Mokgadi Caster Semenya. I am a woman and I am fast.”

There have been gender conflicts since evolutionary times when according to the good book, God carried out the first act of genetic engineering when he created the woman from the ribs of Adam who was clearly on anaesthetics. There might be a debate whether the Original Sin which resulted from Eve giving Adam the forbidden apple, might have been avoided had the latter been absent from the Garden of Eden. But what is clear is that there have been the mythical War of The Sexes in which both sexes flex muscles or try to out-play themselves rather than accept that all human beings are equal.

One advantage of the LGBT ascendancy is that the gender lines might be blurred leading to calling a truce in The War of The Sexes. I am not sure United Nations peacekeepers will be needed to maintain a buffer zone. Also, titles like Mr, Mrs, Miss or Ms will become obsolete or undergo transformation as it would be difficult to determine the sex of a husband, wife, boyfriend or girlfriend.

I need to apply the brakes here before I get into trouble. There are three things you do not debate: religion, Zionism and homosexuality.

I caught my wife with lover at midnight – man tells court

Displeased at his wife’s alleged adulterous life, a 55-year-old civil servant, Mr Sola Ola, on Monday prayed an Igando Customary Court in Lagos to dissolve his 16-year-old marriage.

Sola said that his wife, Tola, with whom he had three children, was wayward and promiscuous.

“I got information from people in our community that my wife was having extra martial affairs but I ignored it since there was no evidence to support it.

“In March, I received a call from somebody at 12:30a.m. to come and see my wife with one of her lovers at their hiding spot.

” I rushed to the scene and caught her and her lover in a compromising position, touching each other,” he said.

According to the petitioner, since that day, his wife refused to return home.

“Whenever we had a misunderstanding, she would bring out either a knife or a bottle threatening to stab me.

“My brothers seized three knives from her at different times; those knives are still with them,’’ told the court.

He said that Tola was troublesome and frequently fought with him and their neighbours.

Sola added that Tola was uncaring, allowing her children to go to school without food.

He told the court that he could no longer tolerate his wife’s infidelity.

Responding, 50-year-old Tola denied being wayward and promiscuous.

She submitted that Sola became hostile to her since he married another wife.

“I never had any extra martial affairs.

“My husband and I did not have any problem until five years ago when he married another woman.

“Since that time, he refused to eat my food and make love to me,” she said.

The respondent also said that she cared for the family while Sola did not.

“When I was sick and admitted in a hospital for days, my husband never came to check on me nor paid the bills,” she added.

She prayed the court not to dissolve the marriage, saying that she still loved her husband.

The Court President, Mr Adeniyi Koledoye, urged both parties to be peaceful.

He adjourned the case until Dec.17 for judgment.

Man confines wife for four years over alleged witchcraft, impregnates her thrice

The Delta State police command has detained a man for caging his wife in a room for four years and subjecting her to debasing conditions.

The suspect allegedly impregnated her three times while she was in bondage at their home in the Orerokpe area of Delta State.

The husband, who has eight children with the victim, was said to have fed her with only bread throughout her time in bondage and she was not allowed to shower or use the restroom.

However, things fell apart for the man when some concerned citizens reported the case to Behind Bars Defenders foundation which quickly took up the matter.

The Director-General of the foundation, Harrison Gwamnishu, said that the suspect, who holds an OND, accused his wife of being behind his financial afflictions.

He then locked her up and subjected her to dehumanizing conditions.

Gwamnishu in a chat with Punch said, “We got tagged via Facebook and we responded. Behind Bars, the intelligence team from the Warri office first visited Orerokpe and verified the story.

“She spent the last four years of her life locked up by her supposed husband. She was peeing and defecating in the same room where he fed her bread. Not the regular sweetened bread though. She gave the said man eight children, three of which she had while she was locked up by him in Orerokpe community.

“The husband who is the primary suspect has been arrested and currently in police custody while she is in the hospital.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, said the suspect informed the police that his wife was mentally unbalanced and he had to keep her in such a condition because nobody was willing to help her.

The police spokesman said, “The DPO said the man alleged that his wife had a mental problem and that she is a witch. He said he took her to her family but they rejected her. He said he equally took her to several herbalist homes but after sometime, he had to take her back home.

“He said he was taking care of her with his little resources. The DPO said when the report came, he took her to the hospital and the man is with the police now but he cannot ascertain the amount of time she spent in that position”.

Help, my wife wants to send me to my early grave – Man cries out

An electronics repairer, Samson Babalola, has petitioned the Ile-Tuntun Customary Court, Ibadan, to dissolve his 10 year-old marriage to his wife, Abosede, over death threats and alleged use of demonic powers.

Testifying on Monday before Chief Henry Agbaje, the court’s President, Babalola, who resides at Oke-Bola area, Ibadan, said that his wife often told him that she would use her demonic powers to send him to his early grave.

He said that Abosede often issued the threat whenever she saw him with any woman, not caring whatever relationship he might have with the lady.

The petitioner also claimed that his wife was trying to foist on him a pregnancy that was not his.

“After Abosede failed in her attempts to lord over me, she started inciting my first child I had with my late wife against me.

“She poisoned that child’s mind that I was responsible for his mother’s death, and that I was also making desperate efforts to kill her.

“Worse still, she instigated her younger brother and mother to ensure they ruined me because I reported her at Oyo State Welfare Department for her evil acts.

“Abosede now has an extra-marital affair with a man and they go to parties together.

“She is currently forcing me to accept a pregnancy I know nothing about because I have stopped having any conjugal rites with her,” Babalola said.

The respondent, who earns a living as a fashion designer, however, opposed the suit.

She defended the allegations against her, insisting that her husband was responsible for her pregnancy.

In his ruling, Agbaje held that there was need for Babalola and Abosede’s relatives to intervene in the matter.

He therefore, adjourned the case until Dec. 3, for continuation of hearing and advised the estranged couple to maintain peace.

Man in police net for allegedly killing, burying lover at construction site in Lekki

Operatives of the Lagos Police Command have arrested 29-year-old, Segun Titilayo, for allegedly killing, burying his lover.

The deceased, Oritoke Manni, 26, who was a bar attendant at KC Hotel, Apakin Town, Lekki, was declared missing last month after she was said to have gone to Titilayo’s house.

According to sources, Titilayo allegedly called Manni to come to his 29, Otulu Town, Lekki residence but never returned.

Following her disappearance, a missing person report was made at the police and a search commenced with no trace of her until November 7 when her decomposing body was excavated by a Caterpillar at Adron Homes construction site in Otulu.

In the course of the investigation, it was learnt that police found out Titilayo went to the deceased’s place of work to ask after her, a move being considered as a possible cover-up for the alleged crime.

Confirming the suspect’s arrest Thursday, the Lagos State Police Command spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi said an engineer, David Adegbago, of Adron Homes and Properties, reported to the Police Station at Akodo that while the company was excavating its site at Otolu Town, their Caterpillar exhumed a decomposing corpse.

“The police detectives swung into action and the corpse was identified by the staff of the hotel to be Oritoke’s. The corpse was evacuated to a public morgue for autopsy.

“The police placed a manhunt on the suspect and he was arrested. He is being detained at the SCID Panti and giving useful information to help the police investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has condemned the crime and directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State CID, DCP Yetunde Longe to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter.

“CP Hakeem Odumosu cautions the youths, especially ladies, against keeping unscrupulous and destructive friends. He also encourages Lagosians to promote moral values and shun crimes and criminality.”

‘We agreed to die together’ – 92-year-old man tells court after killing wife of 70 years

A 92-year-old German man – name withheld, on Tuesday in Court admitted to killing his infirm wife after almost 70 years of marriage.

His defence lawyer argued that he acted out of love, rather than self-interest or ill will.

“All these years I cared for my wife to the best of my ability,’’ the elderly defendant said in a statement that was read out to the court in Wuerzburg, a city in the German state of Bavaria.

The husband looked after the 91-year-old woman, who suffered from dementia, essentially round the clock for decades, receiving help just twice a week from a welfare centre, the court heard.

The man is said to have acted out of desperation, overwhelmed by the burden of care and fearing that his wife will be sent to a care home.

The couple, who had no children had purportedly agreed to die together. An attempt by the man to commit suicide was unsuccessful.

According to prosecutors, he smothered his partner with a cover and suffocated her on Nov. 3, 2019.

Prosecutors also believe that the man had seen no other option due to his determination to live a healthy and independent life together with his wife.

The defendant must answer to a manslaughter charge “without being a murderer’’, the chief prosecutor said.

It is assumed that the man was severely depressed when he killed his wife, meaning that his culpability could be reduced in the eyes of the court.

Emmanuel Ben was said to have hurt, Ismaila Lukman, a LASTMA official on Sunday at the Jakande Junction in Lekki while on duty.

Lukman said he was controlling traffic manually owing to the destruction of the traffic light when Ben approached him, asking that traffic be stopped for him to cross despite a pedestrian bridge situated nearby.

The LASTMA official told him to use the bridge. Ben, Lukmqn said, proceeded to step into the carriageway in front of moving traffic causing disruption of traffic flow.

On warning him to leave the road and stop disturbing his work, Ben was said to have threatened that LASTMA officials would be chased off the road like the police.

Thereafter, Lukman said he attacked him with a weapon on his head, causing serious laceration resulting in flow of blood.

Ben was said to have been joined in the officer’s assault by two passersby currently at large.

He was detained by the military patrol and police around the area and detained at the Ilasan Police station.

Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Olajide Oduyoye said the Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo has directed that Ben be made to face the full wrath of the law.

This, he said, was to serve as deterrence to others with similar motives.

Oduyoye in a statement by LASTMA’s Assistant Director of Public Affairs, Olumide Filade, vowed the agency will not shy away or be cowed into submission from carrying out its lawful duties “no matter the intimidation and promised that anyone caught assaulting LASTMA officers henceforth would be made to face the music under the law.”

Man disguises as Facebook lover to catch ‘cheating’ wife

Mlekeleli Masondo, a South African man, has recounted how he posed as an online lover to discover his wife was allegedly cheating on him.

In a Facebook post, Masondo said it all began about four weeks ago when he used a “fake” social media account to initiate a conversation with his wife.

Ignorant that she was conversing with her own husband, Masondo said his wife had agreed to date her supposed new lover (him).

He said his wife spends hours chatting with the new lover every day and would even send him airtime and money.

Masondo recalled how his wife had lied to him that her aunt was sick and would need R500 (about N121, 133) — just to raise money for her “new man”.

He said his wife told her new lover that she was happy with her husband (Masondo) and was merely cheating for fun.

Masondo said both have agreed to meet at a secret place on November 11 — a development which had made her deny him sex for over a week ahead of her planned date with the said lover.

“My wife met someone on Facebook, their thing is going on for almost for weeks now. The guy is unemployed, as soon as I leave for work they start chatting, she sends him airtime and money,” he wrote.

“Last week she told me about her sick aunt and she needed money to send to her, it was a lie, she sent R500 to her guy. She told the guy that she is happy with me and she is doing this just for fun.

“They spoke about sex and they agreed to do it on their first date, the guy told my wife not to have sex with me for at least one week before the day because he wants her fresh, from last week she is telling me that she is not ok to sleep with me.

“They will meet on Thursday and she doesn’t know that I am the new guy with a fake account.”

As of the time of filing this report, the post has been shared over 11,000 times with some users taking to the comment section to air their different views on the man’s decision to trick his wife.
