It is clear that our economy still fragile, MAN tells Buhari

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria told President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday that the country’s economy remained “fragile”, much as it valued his commitment to perform better in his second term in office.

“It is clear that our economy is still fragile,” the President of MAN, Mr Mansur Ahmed, said when the National Council on Manufacturers Association of Nigeria visited Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Ahmed added, “With the Gross Domestic Product at 2.0 per cent and below the population growth rate, the clouds are still threatening and the task of driving the economy upwards is still enormous.

‘‘But, Your Excellency, we are encouraged by the very strong commitment you expressed only last week in your Democracy Day address.

‘‘You did say that in your second term, your administration will do, even more, not only to continue to drive the economy on the path of sustained growth but indeed to create a more inclusive and sustainable economy.”

He applauded some of the administration’s policies, including measures introduced on the ease of doing business, “fight against corruption, focus on poverty reduction, job creation and inclusive growth as well as the launch of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan.”

A speech by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, said Buhari used the visit to explain why Nigeria had yet to take a decision on the agreement establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Buhari informed the MAN officials that an impact assessment committee set up by the government to guide it properly was working, adding that Nigeria’s decision on AfCFTA would be based on “national interest.”

The statement said, “The Presidential Steering Committee on the AfCFTA Impact and Readiness Assessment Committee was inaugurated on October 22, 2018, with the mandate to assess the extent to which Nigeria was ready to join the agreement, and what the impact of doing so would be.

“The Committee was initially given 12 weeks to conclude its assignment, after holding wide consultations with industry groups and stakeholders, including the MAN.”

The African Union Summit scheduled for July in Niamey, Niger Republic, is expected to address the AfCFTA.

The statement quoted Buhari as saying, ‘‘I don’t think Nigeria has the capacity to effectively supervise and to ensure that our colleagues in AU don’t allow their countries to be used to dump goods on us to the detriment of our young industries and our capacity to utilise foreign exchange for imported goods.”

  • Court sentences man to prison for stabbing wife 38 times

Court sentences man to prison for stabbing wife 38 times

Mohammad Qoraishi, aged 27, of Hull, was jailed for a minimum of 16 years and 82 days on June 7, 2019, for murdering his teenage wife.

Maidstone Crown Court heard he stabbed 19-year-old Parwin Quriashi 38 times on Christmas Day in 2018 at her home on London Road, Maidstone.

Qoraishi and the victim were cousins and had an arranged marriage in August 2018. He moved into her home five days before the attack.

The prosecutor Alexandra Healy explained that there had been tensions leading up to and following the marriage.

It was heard that Qoraishi hit his wife over the head with a frying pan before launching a “frenzied” attack with a kitchen knife.

He stabbed her in the head, neck, chest, thighs and abdomen. One wound to her neck was 6cm in depth.

Ms Healy said: “Parwin was just 19-years-old and was the victim of a ferocious and sustained attack in her own kitchen.

“She had 38 stab wounds to her head, chest and thighs.

“She had also been strangled and had been hit to the back of her head with a frying pan.”

Ms Healy added that some of the knife wounds could have been inflicted after Parwin was already dead.

Following the attack, Qoraishi drove to the port in an attempt to flee, however, it was shut as it was Christmas Day.

Qoraishi was arrested at the wheel of his car wearing blood-stained clothes.

Parwin was discovered in the flat when neighbours became worried after hearing noises and a woman’s screams.

Qoraishi was questioned four times by police. He claimed Parwin’s father had threatened him.

During a hearing in May 2019, Qoraishi pleaded guilty when he was expected to enter a not guilty plea.

After private talks with his barrister, Qoraishi appeared at his hearing via prison video link and repeated: “Guilty, guilty, guilty, guilty.”

Judge David Griffith-Jones QC told Qoraishi: “This was a senseless murder of your wife.

“Whilst I’m prepared to accept the murder was not premeditated but occurred in a fit of rage in which you snapped, it is clear that you knew what you were doing and your intention was to kill her.

“The inescapable fact is you performed these acts of utter barbarity and in the cold light of day you’ve had to face the enormity of what you’ve done.

“Given the extent and obvious ferocity of the attack and the injuries caused, there can be no doubt that your intention, whilst not premeditated… must have been to kill your wife.”

Defending Qoraishi was Bernard Tetlow QC who stated that the trigger for the attack was because of the arranged marriage.

He also explained that he was happy living in Hull and that Parwin’s father refused to let her move to Hull where her husband had a home and a job.

In a letter, Qoraishi said: “I am deeply ashamed about what I did and can only apologise from my heart and plead for forgiveness.”

Mohammad Qoraishi sat impassioned as he was jailed for life, to serve a minimum of 16 years and 82 days.

After the sentencing, senior investigating officer DCI Ivan Beasley said: “This was an unprovoked and savage attack on a defenceless young woman.

“Her tragic death at the hands of her husband has left a family mourning her loss.

“Qoraishi fled the scene and was tracked down by officers near Dover.

“It is only right that he will now spend a considerable time in prison for this brutal crime.”

  • Dangers of Feminism to Man and Marriage Exposed

Dangers of Feminism to Man and Marriage Exposed

The agony men endure in marriages has been traced to the philosophy behind feminism, the propelling force that has altered the mindset of woman who sees herself as equal partner in marriage, resulting in agitation for equal rights, opportunity and authority with men.

These revelations which are contained in a new book published in the United Stated of America are mind-boggling, as it reveals the woman and feminism, and why many men are groaning silently in pains under them, subordinating their authority as head of the family to the woman with the ultimate aim of achieving peace without result, prompting many men to cooperate with their wives, and in the process, unwittingly subvert natural role responsibilities.

The book is entitled, Feminism: The Agony of Men, and written by Michael Owhoko, a renowned author and journalist. It was published by WestBow Press, a Division of Thomas Nelson and Zondervan, and has been formally released to the public. It is available in major bookstores worldwide, including Amazon, Banes and Nobles, WestBow Press.

Until the philosophy behind feminism is curbed, men will continue to experience pains under cold relationships that will eventually lead to the collapse of their marriages. Feminism: The Agony of Men is an exposition of the silent pains men go through in marriages induced by feminism and the need for restraint, allowing natural order to prevail”, Michael Owhoko disclosed in the new book.

The author asserts that the advocacy of the World Conference on Women, which encourages women to defend and fight for their rights in relation to equality with men are unwittingly setting the tone for tension and, by extension, conflict between the woman and her spouse, saying the growing band of single parenthood resulting from broken marriages is abysmal and should be of concern to the World Conference on Women.

Owhoko further revealed in the book that the feminist propaganda is part of a worldwide phenomenon playing out in homes, corporate organisations, societies, and marriages, apparently designed to dispute and diminish the superordinate position of the man, provoking an illusion of equal authority with him. “Unfortunately, this is the fire behind the unexplainable suspicion, rivalry, competition, ego, and animosity between the man and the woman, resulting in unstable marriages and relationships”, the author disclosed.

The book is a must read not only for couples, but important for young male children on what awaits them in their marital lives and how to adapt to the realities in order to make the union compatible and pleasurable..

    About the author

  • Man butchers lover, roasts and eats her brain

Man butchers lover, roasts and eats her brain

A cannibal, who butchered his lover, roasted and ate her brain then drank her blood and tried to summon the devil, has been jailed for 19 years in Russia.

Dmitry Luchin brutally killed his older lover, Olga Budunova, 45, hitting her head with a wine bottle before dismembering her body with a meat cleaver.

The 23-year-old went ahead to tear out her insides, a court in Novgorod was told.

Luchin also daubed swear words, including the word ‘whore’ on her body in blood and purple-coloured nail polish.

He was found guilty of murder committed with special cruelty and would serve his sentence in a harsh regime penal colony.

The young man, who had been declared mentally fit to stand trial, read a bizarre poem to the court in which he denied that he was a maniac, murderer and cannibal.

He had carefully planned the ‘ritualistic cannibalistic murder’ after becoming obsessed with reading about serial killers on the web, alleged prosecutors during his trial.

He admitted to police that he got sexual pleasure from the attack, although he later retracted his confession of guilt, after a crime scene re-enactment in which he showed police how he killed and dismembered the woman.

Budunova was killed after her ‘toy boy lover’ went to her flat in Valdai for ‘romantic’ drinks to mark International Women’s Day, a major public holiday in Russia, Daily Mail UK, reports.

Alexandra Dedova, 21, a neighbour, who witnessed the grotesque crime scene soon after the murder, was present at Luchin’s initial police interrogation.

He wanted to summon the devil,” she said. “He waited for five minutes but the devil did not appear.

Next he took the meat cleaver and smashed her skull. He cut pieces out of her brain. He roasted and ate them. He liked it. He ate another piece. Then poured a glass of her blood and drank.

Next he cut out her stomach and chopped off her ears. One he put into her mouth, the other into the cat’s bowl.”
