  • ODD! Man bites dog, says it’s to teach it a lesson

Florida man, Patrick Shurod Campbell, 27, was booked into Palm Beach County’s Main Detention Centre, allegedly for abusing his dog, Dimitri.

Authorities received a complaint about the abuse after a 911 caller reported hearing “slamming noises” from Campbell’s apartment, according to the arrest report.

Policemen arrived and talked to the suspect’s roommates. They said the noise was caused by Campbell disciplining the dog, adding that “he beat the hell out of him.”

Upon questioning, Campbell said Dimitri was in the bedroom closet. The room smelled like urine and faeces, the arrest report said.

There was a “red like substance” on the carpet that was consistent with blood, and more of it on a recliner arm rest.

The couch was pushed against the closet door, and Campbell moved it away. The closet was dark and the police saw that Dimitri seemed to be shaking, ears flat. The dog had a “red like substance” on his right ear consistent with blood.

It was later determined the dog appeared to have sustained a laceration near the bottom of the ear.

Upon questioning, Campbell admitted to biting the dog “to establish dominance.”

The arrest report goes on to detail that, after he was Mirandized (informed of his legal rights), Campbell said he had received a text message that Dimitri escaped the closet and destroyed items in the apartment, including a pack of cigarettes.

Upon returning to the apartment, he confronted the dog with a replacement pack of cigarettes, and tried grabbing Dimitri by the neck in order to discipline him.

Campbell was charged with aggravated animal cruelty.

Palm Beach County records stated that he is in the process of getting a public defender, while a court hearing is set for June 11.

Wear revealing cloths to entice him. Put on cloths that expose your cleavage, thighs and you will be shocked at the kind of compliment you husband will rain on you.

Very few men will think ‘outside’ when you tease them with this great sensual feeling especially if you can end it gracefully in bed, nothing as good as giving your man your best.

    3. If he drinks, Buy alcohol in your fridge

Your husband could be the type who always enjoys social time-out with friends at the detriment of the family-Madam! You need to take him back.

Don’t rush it, plan it. Find out his favourite brand of drink, buy it in a reasonable quantity and this will be a good surprise to communicate how much you want him to be in the family.

Getting your man to drink at home can be difficult in the beginning because he is already accustomed to drinking outside. Don’t give up, keep trying.

The most important thing is that you can also curtail his alcohol intake once you win him over to your side.

Create a private moment where both of you feel comfortable to share this good time.

    4. Appreciate your husband

Compliment him frequently on the things you like about him. When he does something kind of special for you, acknowledge that you appreciate him. Be positive and encouraging of your man’s goals. Being positive and loving is important for maintaining a successful relationship

For example, you can give him a small unexpected gift or send him a random, loving text. Something simple like this will let him know that you appreciate him.

    5. Initiate outing with your husband / Spend quality time together

Make time for just the two of you. Date nights and quality time may improve your current relationship.

Try taking some time away from your cell phone and focus only on your time with your boyfriend or husband.

Try going to a new location, such as a beach a couple hours away from your house or a restaurant you’ve never been to before. Sharing new experiences together will strengthen your bond further.

Man bags 4 months imprisonment for stealing cell phone

A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday, sentenced a 20-year-old man, Ismail Ibrahim, to four months in prison for stealing cell phone valued at N75,000.

Ibrahim, of no fixed address, was arraigned on a two-count charge of joint act and theft which he pleaded guilty to.

Delivering judgment, Justice Abubakar Sadiq said the court had no option than to sentence Ibrahin accordingly.

Sadiq, however, denied the convict an option of fine “because he was not a first time offender.”

He, therefore, sentenced the convict to four in prison, saying the punishment would serve as deterrent to others.

The Prosecutor, Dalhatu Zannah, had earlier told the court that Babangida Sirage of Karu, Abuja, reported the incident at Life Camp Police Station, Abuja, on May 4.

Zannah said the convict committed the offences on the same date at about 8 p.m. at Jabi, Abuja.

He added that the complainant went to buy date fruit from a shop at Jabi, Masalashi, when the convict and one other now at large followed him.

The prosecutor noted that while the complainant was busy buying the fruit, Ibrahim and his partner also came to the shop and bought a sachet of honey.

He said as the complainant left the shop; Ibrahim followed him and suddenly pushed him down, stole his Infinix Note 3 cell phone valued at N75,000 from his pocket and ran away.

Zannah said the complainant raised alarm which attracted people and the convict was caught, but his partner escaped with the phone.

The prosecutor said the convict confessed to the crime during police investigation, adding that the offences contravened sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.

  • Saraki calls for review of Nigeria’s tax laws

The President of the Senate, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has called for the urgent review of the nation’s tax laws, to achieve a more efficient and productive tax regime.

Saraki gave the advice on Wednesday while inaugurating the Technical Committee on Reforming Nigeria’s Tax System at the National Assembly, Abuja.

He said the Federal Government’s target should not only be that of increased revenue, but how to evolve a tax system that would be efficient.

According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Sanni Onogu, Saraki said Nigeria should adopt a productive tax system, to grow her economy.

He also lamented the existing duplications in the current tax regime and called on the committee to harmonise the various tax instruments in the country.

“It is not just to increase revenue alone; I think it is also to address how efficient and the level of harmonisation of taxes across board, particularly as we operate a three tier system of government.

“One of the difficulties or frustration you find from business people is where they have to pay similar taxes at the local, state and federal levels.

“This at the long run makes business unproductive. I hope that at the end of the day you should have an approach that will bring in a system that is efficient.

“A system that reduces all these barricades and the different challenges on the ease of doing business,” he said.

He also called for the expansion of the technical committee to include major players in the private sector.

According to him, “It is better to engage and get their input rather than giving them directives during the implementation of the expected reforms.”

“We need to engage them rather than just giving them directives. I think there is need for the committee to expand its membership to include stakeholders from the private sector,” he stated.

Leader of the Technical Committee and Director-General of the National Institute of Legislative Studies (NILS), Prof. Ladi Hamalai, said the outcome of the committee’s assignment would ease payment of taxes.

“The expected report and pieces of legislation from the work of this Technical Committee will harmonise the various disparate legislations.

“It would also facilitate the ease of paying taxes in the country and at the same time, impact on the overall ease of doing business,’’ Hamalai said.

Members of the committee include representatives of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN).

Others are Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) and state commissioners of finance.

“The youths went on a protest without any weapon or arms; they went to register their grievances over the arrests. “It shows they have respect for authority and law; it was during the demonstration that Isong, one of the community leaders, was shot dead by Police.”

Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Irene Ugbo, said some herdsmen had complained some months ago that indigenes of the Itigidi community killed their cows. Her words: “The youths got wrong information; they thought the Police at Ugep had taken their chief and youth leader to Calabar, not knowing they were only invited for a peace talk and for the matter to be resolved amicably.

“On that strength, we invited the community leader to make peace. Unfortunately, the youths in the community read a different meaning to the invitation of their community leaders. “They became restive and threatened to burn down Itigidi Police Station.
