Man walks from Benue to Abuja, says he want to meet Tinubu

A man who started trekking from Benue state in celebration of President Bola Tinubu’s successful inauguration has arrived Abuja.

Nyor David, the coordinator of Benue Youth Volunteer for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, started trekking on May 29th and arrived June 2nd.

David while speaking to journalists at the All Progressives Congress (APC), secretariat requested for a photo shot where he can be standing beside the president, so that when he returns back to Benue, everyone will see him with Tinubu.

“I was hanging out with some of my mates majorly Obidents and we were discussing who will win the presidential election and I said Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win due to his track records in Lagos state as governor, relationship with people across the country that made all his associates from 1999 are still with him unlike Peter Obi who has no relationship with Nigerians .

“The only relationship he has is in Anambra State which is not strong. One of them now said if Tinubu emerges as president, he will leave Nigeria and I said if Tinubu becomes president, I will trek from Benue to Abuja to honour his victory.

“I thought it was going to be easy but when I started my legs were paining me and that was when I knew that trekking that far is not easy but because of the promise I made to the people, I kept on trekking.”

Speaking on his expectations on the new administration, he said Tinubu governed well while he was in charge of Lagos state, so he expect that the president will do well.

” My only request is to take a photo shot standing beside my president so that when I return back to Benue, everyone will see me with my president,” he said.

There was confusion in Kaduna when a man took his life by blowing himself up with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in order to evade arrest.

The incident occurred at Ibrahim Haske Road in the KEKE community of Kaduna Millennium City, on Monday morning.

According to eyewitnesses, gunshots were heard around 1 am when officials from the Department of State Services (DSS), soldiers, and the police arrived at the suspect’s residence.
gathered that when the man realised he was surrounded, he resorted to using explosives to end his life.

He was said to have exchanged gunfire with the security operatives before taking his life.

A security source revealed that an AK-47 rifle was discovered inside the house, along with two other IEDs that were later defused by the Anti-bomb squad.

“The man’s body was mutilated due to the explosive device, while his wife and children were taken away by DSS officials in their vehicles,” the source said.

A community leader, Malam Samaila, confirmed the incident, noting that the security operatives had barricaded the street to prevent people from approaching the suspect’s house.

The operation was jointly conducted by the DSS, police, and soldiers, who arrived in Hilux trucks, Jeeps, and ambulances. They left the community at approximately noon.

The Kaduna State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Jalige Mohammed, couldn’t be reached for comment as calls to his phone remain unanswered and is yet to reply to a text message sent to him over the man that blew himself up and caused not small pandemonium.

  • My mother in-law told me to get her daughter pregnant before marriage, man tells court

My mother in-law told me to get her daughter pregnant before marriage, man tells court

A divorce-seeking man, Basiru Sodiq, on Wednesday told a Mapo Grade ‘A’ Customary Court in Ibadan that his mother in-law begged him to get her daughter, Amdalat pregnant before marriage.

Sodiq, made this known in his counter argument against his wife’s allegation of lack of care and gross irresponsibility leveled against him.

”I acted according to the wishes of my mother in-law, She later did a 90 degrees and denied me in the presence of the entire household.

“I don’t actually know what went wrong. Her parents simply told me that they will never allow their daughter to be with me.

“She also denied me access to the child,” Sodiq said.

Amdalat, a fashion designer, had earlier informed the court that her estranged lover was not responsible, hence, not caring for her and the three-year-old child.

“My lord, since I gave birth, Sodiq only gave me N1,500 twice and a baby dress, he kept dodging his responsibilities.

“Sodiq has no regards for my parents because he disrespects them.

“When our child was ready to start school, I contacted Sodiq, but he did nothing concerning the school fees and any other payment.

“There is no valid marriage between us, please compel him to take full responsibility,” Amdalat stated.

Delivering judgment, the court’s President, Mrs S.M. Akintayo held that there was nothing to dissolve between Sodiq and Amdalat because there was no marriage in the first place.

Akintayo said that there was no evidence before the court that bride price and other important things necessary for a marriage to be described as a customary one were presented by the respondent.

She however, granted the order awarding custody of the child to the petitioner.

Akintayo also directed Sodiq to pay a monthly feeding allowance of N10,000 for the child’s upkeep.

She granted the order restraining Sodiq from disturbing, harassing, intimidating and interfering in the private life of Amdalat.

The court’s president directed the duo to be jointly responsible for the child’s education and other welfare.

Furthermore, she ordered Amdalat not to deny Sodiq access to the child.

45-year old man allegedly beats wife to death

A 45-year-old carpenter, Segun Omotosho, who allegedly beat his wife, Olubukola to death, has been arrested by the Police in Ogun.

The Police Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Monday.

Oyeyemi said detectives arrested the suspect on Sunday in Akinseku Village, Abeokuta, where he had gone to hide after committing the alleged crime.

The police spokesperson stated that the deceased, an NCE holder, had established a private school registered in both in her name and that of her husband.

Oyeyemi alleged that the suspect, who had always wanted to take over the school from his deceased wife, physically assaulted her by hitting her with a padlock on her head after a disagreement.

According to the PPRO, the wife sustained serious injury and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta, where she died.

” She, however, left behind a voice note for her family relating what transpired.

” The arrest of the suspect followed a complaint lodged at Kemta divisional headquarters on Nov.  14, by the deceased elder sister, who reported that the deceased was beaten and seriously injured by her husband over a minor disagreement.

“Unknown to the husband, the deceased had sent a voice note to her family members, informing them that her husband has used a padlock to hit her on the head while beating her.

“And that if she died, they should be aware that it was her husband who killed her.

“Acting on the report and the recorded evidence, the Divisional Police Officer, Kemta, CSP Adeniyi Adekunle, detailed detectives to go after the killer husband and fish him out from wherever he might be.

“He was subsequently traced to Akinseku village, Abeokuta where he has been hibernating, and was promptly apprehended.

“As soon as the voice note was played to his hearing, the husband took to his heels, having realised that his evil deed had been exposed,” he said.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspect be transferred to Homicide Section of the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.

Man chops wife to death with cutlass for touching his phone without permission

A 37-YEAR-OLD Mutasa man last weekend gruesomely hacked his wife on the neck, shoulder, chest and mouth with a machete after she took his cellphone and unlocked it without his consent, hardly three months into the couple’s marriage.

Mirriam Joni (27) died on the spot from the injuries sustained during the brutal and heartless attack.

Police confirmed the murder which happened in Matsapa Village in Chief Mutasa’s area last week on Saturday.

Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident and said the suspect, Gwaramba Jimu, disappeared from the scene soon after committing the heinous act.

It is alleged that a few minutes before vanishing from the scene, Jimu instructed his mother, Ms Kandala Maluwiza (72), to take care of his children when he was gone.

“The two who were customarily married for three months had a domestic dispute after Joni took Jimu’s phone without his consent. After a heated altercation, Jimu went to his aunt, Ms Netsai Jolomile (48) of Mhandire Village, to ask her to solve the dispute.

“Ms Jolomile accompanied Jimu back to his home and she counselled the couple, advising them to live in peace. Ms Jolomile left the couple and went back home.

“On October 28, at around 2am, Jimu woke up and armed himself with a machete. He hacked Miriam several times on the shoulder, neck, chest and mouth,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.

He said after the heinous act, Jimu proceeded to his mother, Ms Maluwiza’s homestead in the same village and told her to take care of his children. He then disappeared.

“Ms Maluwiza became suspicious and proceeded to Jimu’s homestead. Upon arrival, she saw Joni’s body lying in a pool of blood. She alerted other villagers.

“A report was made to the police who attended the scene,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.

  • Man accused of killing 22 older women goes on trial again

Man accused of killing 22 older women goes on trial again

After Mary Brooks was found dead on the floor of her Dallas-area condo, grocery bags from a shopping trip still on her countertop, authorities decided the 87-year-old had died of natural causes.

Even after her family discovered jewellery was missing — including a coral necklace she loved and diamond rings — it took an attack on another woman weeks later for police to reconsider.

The next capital murder trial for Billy Chemirmir, 49, begins Monday in Dallas in the death of Brooks, one of 22 older women he is charged with killing. The charges against Chemirmir grew in the years following his 2018 arrest, as police across the Dallas area reexamined the deaths of older people that had been considered natural, even though families raised alarm bells about missing jewellery. Four indictments were added this summer.

Chemirmir, who maintains his innocence, was convicted in April of capital murder in the smothering death of 81-year-old Lu Thi Harris and sentenced to life in prison without parole. He will receive the same punishment if convicted in Brooks’ death. His first trial in Harris’ death ended in a mistrial last November when the jury deadlocked.

Loren Adair Smith, whose 91-year-old mother is among those Chemirmir is charged with killing, will be among the many relatives of victims attending the trial, which, she said, brings a “huge bag of mixed feelings.”

“At the same time of having that dread feeling, we are really glad to go back and bring this chapter to a close,” Smith said.

It was Mary Annis Bartel’s survival of a March 2018 attack that set Chemirmir’s arrest in motion. Bartel, 91 at the time, told police that a man had forced his way into her apartment at an independent living community for seniors, tried to smother her with a pillow and took her jewellery.

Before Bartel died in 2020, she described the attack in a taped interview that was played at Chemirmir’s previous trials. She said the minute she opened her door and saw a man wearing green rubber gloves, she knew she was in “grave danger.”

Police said they found Chemirmir the next day in the parking lot of his apartment complex. He was holding jewellery and cash, and had just thrown away a large red jewellery box. Documents in the box led them to the home of Harris, who was found dead in her bedroom, lipstick smeared on her pillow.

At trial, prosecutors presented evidence that Harris and Chemirmir were checking out at the same time at a Walmart just hours before she was found dead.

In a video interview with police, Chemirmir told a detective that he made money by buying and selling jewellery, and that he had also worked as a caregiver and a security guard.

Most of Chemirmir’s alleged victims lived in apartments at independent living communities for older people. The women he’s accused of killing in private homes include the widow of a man he had cared for while working as an at-home caregiver.

Brooks’ grandson, David Cuddihee, testified that he found her body on Jan. 31, 2018. He said she had sometimes used a cane but was still healthy and active.

“She would walk to church, she would walk to the dentist down the street,” Cuddihee said.

Police testified that grocery receipts showed Brooks was at Walmart the day before her body was found. Surveillance video from the store showed a vehicle matching the description of Chemirmir’s leaving just after Brooks, going in the same direction.

Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot, a Democrat, decided to seek life sentences rather than the death penalty when he tried Chemirmir on two of his 13 capital murder cases in the county. His Republican opponent has criticized that decision as he seeks reelection in the nation’s busiest death penalty state.

In an interview with The Dallas Morning News, Creuzot said he’s not against the death penalty, but among things he considers when deciding whether to pursue it are the time it takes before someone is executed, the costs of appeals and whether the person would still be a danger to society behind bars. Chemirmir, he added, is “going to die in the penitentiary.”

Prosecutors in neighboring Collin County haven’t said if they will try any of their nine capital murder cases against Chemirmir.
