  • Gunmen kill Dangote’s manager

Unidentified gunmen killed the manager of a plant owned by Nigeria’s Dangote Industries Limited in Ethiopia on Wednesday after he was attacked in the restive Oromiya region while returning to the capital from the factory, officials said.

Oromiya, which surrounds the capital Addis Ababa, was plagued by violence for over two years, largely fueled by a sense of political and economic marginalisation among its young population.

Hundreds died in the violence that was triggered in 2015 by demonstrations over land rights, before they broadened into rallies over freedoms that spread to other regions.

The company’s director died following an attack by unknown gunmen that took place while returning from the factory alongside two company employees,” a government statement said.

Security forces are currently pursuing the assailants,” it added.

The statement called on residents in the area to help gather details.

Representatives of the company in Nigeria were not immediately available for comment.

It was not immediately clear whether it was the company’s country representative or the plant manager who died in the attack.

During the unrest, some vehicles belonging to the firm were torched by protesters.

Company heads have been in discussions with the region’s authourities to boost employment opportunities.

The plant – Ethiopia’s largest cement producer – was inaugurated in May 2015.

The country remains under a state of emergency imposed in February, a day after prime minister Hailemariam Desalegn resigned.

Former army officer Abiy Ahmed has since replaced him.

Since taking over amid the unrest that threatened the ruling coalition’s tight grip, Mr. Ahmed has vowed “a new political beginning” including more democratic rights.

Thousands have been released since January, including journalists and dissidents who have been jailed for a variety of charges including terrorism.

Massimiliano Allegri, Luis Enrique emerge favourites to replace Wenger

Arsenal want Massimiliano Allegri or Luis Enrique to replace Arsene Wenger but both candidates have concerns about taking the job because of the club’s management structure, according to Sky sources.

Arsene Wenger bid an emotional farewell to the Emirates on Sunday ahead of his departure this summer and the search to find his replacement is well underway.

Arsenal appointed a head of football relations (Raul Sanllehi) and a head of recruitment (Sven Mislintat) last year and the new manager would have to work closely with both.

Allegri, who has two years left on his contract at Juventus, looks set to lead the club to a fourth successive Serie A title this season.

The Italian is the favourite to succeed Wenger, while Carlo Ancelotti and Liverpool assistant coach Zeljko Buvac are also still among the front-runners.

Former Barcelona manager Enrique is ready to return to the game after taking a year off following his departure from the Nou Camp last summer.

Mikel Arteta has also been linked to the job. The former Gunners midfielder is working as an assistant to Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola.

  • Copyright theft: Davido, Small Doctor used KSA’s lyrics without his consent- KSA’s manager

It is amazing that decades after Juju maestro, King Sunny Ade composed some of his evergreen songs like Ja Funmi, Mo beru Agba, new generation pop stars still find them relevant and they adopt these songs in their music.

Clement Ige who is KSA’s manager as a guest at Goldberg’s Ariya Repete Roundtable Discourse in Abeokuta revealed that Davido and Small Doctor didn’t obtain copyright permission from KSA before using his lyrics in their songs.

In his words:”They use English language to speak Yoruba. Like the young man who sang ‘makole marale’: how do you build house before buying a land?

Many of them don’t give credit to the original composer of the song they adopt. They just sing it without seeking permission. That’s a copyright infringement. It’s not done in developed societies. Till today Small Doctor didn’t get our permission before and after singing “ijó tí m’ojó l’àná, tí wọn n’pariwo, oni nkọ, ola nkọ”. And many of them are guilty of this. The Davido that used Sunny’s lyrics in his song didn’t even get it right and that’s because he didn’t ask for permission; if he did we would have corrected him. What is ‘Kuluso ewe, agbagba ewe…?” The line is actually ‘Seleru agbo, agbara agbo’. I know because I co-wrote the song!”

At the event, the panelists discussed the evolution of Yoruba traditional music and its influence on modern pop music and it featured ace musicians such as K1 De Ultimate, Sir Shina Peters, Lekan Babalola and a host of others.

  • Cow invasion: FAAN sanctions Manager, Head of Security of Akure Airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) says it has suspended the head of security at the Akure Airport, Ondo State after cows strayed onto the airport runway, disrupting flight operations.

  • Swansea City sack manager Paul Clement

Swansea City has sacked manager Paul Clement after less than a year at the helm as the Premier League bottom club desperately search for a way out of the relegation mire.

As the season approaches its halfway point, the Welsh side are already four points adrift of safety following Monday’s 1-3 defeat at Everton, with just three wins in their first 18 Premier League matches.

“We can confirm that the club has tonight (Wednesday) parted company with head coach Paul Clement,” the club said on its Twitter account.

TheNewsGuru reports that Clement is the sixth English Premier League (EPL) manager to lose his job so far this season.

Other EPL managers who had earlier been dismissed include Frank de Boer (Crystal Palace), Craig Shakespeare (Leicester City), Ronald Koeman (Everton), Slaven Bilic (West Ham) and Tony Pulis (West Brom).

Swansea’s owners will be banking on fresh impetus from a new boss to lift the team up the table, with the likes of Leicester and Everton boosted by new appointments in recent weeks.

“To change the manager, especially at only the halfway point of the season, is the last thing we wanted to do as a club,” said Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins in a statement.

“We had three different managers last season and as a result we all wanted to give Paul as much time as possible to turn things around.

“But we felt we couldn’t leave it any longer and needed to make a change to give us the best chance of an uplift and a turnaround in fortunes with the club bottom of the Premier League.”

Jenkins praised Clement’s role in helping keep the club in the English top flight last season.

He took over at Swansea in January, replacing Bob Bradley, with the club bottom of the Premier League and tipped as odds-on favourites for relegation.

But he masterminded four wins from his first six games, including an impressive victory at Liverpool, to earn himself the Premier League manager of the month award for January.

  • Lose title to Chelsea again, get fired – City Warns Manager, Pep Guardiola

Manchester City management has said they would not tolerate another trophy-drought season with Pep Guardiola as wouldn’t afford to lose the league title again to Chelsea.

Guardiola took over as the coach of the team last summer but failed to win a trophy -the first time in his coaching career.

However, the team’s Oasis frontman, Liam Gallagher, said winning the Premier League trophy; any other title, is “absolutely necessary” for the former Bayern coach to keep his job at the Etihad.

“It is absolutely necessary to win the title next season, we cannot leave it to Chelsea again. If we don’t win anything then he won’t be able to stay,” Gallagher told French football magazine So Foot. “We have gone beyond that stage. We have to win the title and we must do well in the Champions League.”

Gallagher also faulted the Catalan’s decision on the goalkeeper, Joe Hart, saying he should have kept him in the team.

“Pep,” Gallagher said, “made a mistake in getting rid of Joe Hart so soon. He shot himself in the foot.”

City have thus far signed Portugal international midfielder, Bernardo Silva and Brazilian goalkeeper, Ederson as they prepare for the next football season.
