Manchester United mock Guardiola over his Julia Roberts’ post

Manchester United have thrown a jibe at Manchester City, boss boss Pep Guardiola for posting a throwback tweet referencing the occasion Julia Roberts visited Old Trafford.

Despite his side defeating Leipzig 7-0 Guardiola appeared undone over the visit of  Julia Roberts to Old Trafford and not the Etihad.

“Julia Roberts years ago came to Manchester – not in the 90s when Sir Alex (Ferguson) was winning titles and titles and titles. She came in the period where we were better than United, in these four or five years, right?

“Even if I win the Champions League it will not compare to this disappointment I had.”

“And she went to visit Man United. She didn’t come to see us,” Guardiola cried out during his post-match press briefing.

Following the Spaniard’s outcry, Manchester United took to their official social media page to note Guardiola’s disgruntlement and referenced the Pretty Woman actress’ Old Trafford visit with a cheeky caption.

“Throwing it back to when Julia Roberts visited Old Trafford,” United wrote.

Guardiola spoke out on the Hollywood superstar’s decision to snub a trip to the blue side of Manchester following the Citizen’s 7-0 win over RB Leipzig in the Champions League Round of 16 last night.

Pep Guardiola’s side made it to the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite competition following their 8-1 aggregate victory over the German side to underline their status as favourites to win the competition this season.

Despite the win, Guardiola was still in a thorny mood during his post-match press conference following the rejection he felt at Roberts’ snub.

“Julia Roberts years ago came to Manchester – not in the 90s when Sir Alex (Ferguson) was winning titles and titles and titles. She came in the period where we were better than United, in these four or five years, right?

“Even if I win the Champions League it will not compare to this disappointment I had.”

Europa League: How Manchester United defeated Real Betis 4-1

Manchester United returned to the pitch few days after being annihilated by Liverpool 7-0 at Anfield on Sunday evening.

The Red Devils had an encounter with Real Betis of Spain in the round of 16 Europa league encounter.

Inform striker, Marcus Rashford had put the host ahead in the encounter before, Ayoze Perez equalized for the visitors to leave the game 1-1 at halftime.

But once Antony’s curling effort had restored their advantage, they blew Betis away. Fernandes’ booming header from a corner was too powerful for Claudio Bravo to handle, and Wout Weghorst added a fourth after fine work from substitute Facundo Pallestri.

Antony and Weghorst both missed glorious chances to extend United’s lead further, but Erik ten Hag’s side will still travel to Spain next Thursday in pole position to reach the Europa League quarter-finals.

But goals from Antony and Bruno Fernandes – two players heavily criticised in that Anfield defeat – put United in the clear before Wout Weghorst completed the rout late on to secure a morale-boosting victory for Ten Hag’s men.

Scholes singled out Luke Shaw and Casemiro’s jaded performances, with the former substituted late in the second half, and believes the pair could do with a rest now that United are virtually assured of a place in the last eight.

Though Ten Hag will claim United still have work to do in Spain next week, the United manager will be delighted with the response from his side, and supremely confident that they will play a part in the draw for the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
