EPL: Manchester United re-appoints Alex Ferguson

Ferguson retired from coaching in 2013 but has been working with the team ever since.

The Scot alongside four others has been given a free role to have their influence on the team as they prepare for next season’s campaign.

They will be effective in offering advice to the management and coaching staff of the club.

The Red Devils’ chief-executive Richard Arnold has put together a think-tank of significant Manchester United figures and has brought Ferguson into the fold.

According to Daily Mail, the 80-year-old Ferguson will be joined in the club’s think-tank by iconic captain Bryan Robson, former CEO David Gill, and the current football director John Murtough.

The five-man group held its first meeting on Tuesday at the club’s training ground.

Ferguson and Gill have held the non-executive director position of the club since 2013 but their new roles are believed to be more influential than that.

This new think-tank is not thought to have a direct impact or influence on manager Erik ten Hag.

They will be dealing with issues like the redevelopment of Old Trafford and Carrington and also the club’s relationship with the fanbase.

Sir Alexander Chapman Ferguson CBE is a Scottish former football manager and player, best known for managing Manchester United from 1986 to 2013. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest football managers of all time and has won more trophies than any other manager in the history of football

Cancel my contract, name your price – Ronaldo tells Man Utd

Portugal international and Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has informed the Old Trafford side that he has received an offer from a club and would love to terminate his contract.

Ronaldo has now urged United chiefs to name their price for him, so he can trigger a move away.

The 37-year-old’s claim comes even as top clubs like Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Atletico Madrid have distanced themselves from signing him.

Ronaldo held showdown talks with United this week, alongside his agent Jorge Mendes.

It is believed Mendes told the club that Ronaldo has a “live offer” and that a transfer fee must be set for his client.

Ronaldo, alongside his agent Jorge Mendes, has held showdown talks with United’s hierarchy this week – after telling the club of his intentions to leave earlier this summer.

He only returned to Carrington on Tuesday after missing all of United’s pre-season tour to Thailand and Australia.

Manchester United is still trying to win the forward over to have him play his remaining one year on the contract.

Talks have failed to change the 37-year-old’s mind about wishing to leave but he will carry on professionally.

Meanwhile, the report has it that the five times Balon d’Or winner may be pitching his tent for Italian side Napoli next season in his quest to play Champions League football.

Cristiano Ronaldo has told Manchester United he wants his contract terminated by the club.

The 37-year-old returned to the club on Tuesday with his agent, Jorge Mendes, and has made it clear he wants to leave Old Trafford.

Although, Manchester United have made it clear that they do not have any plans to let me go as there are no suitors for him at this time.

Talks between Ronaldo’s camp and the club have failed to change his mind about leaving to play in the Champions League, but he will carry on professionally.

He underwent medical tests and then trained on Wednesday before watching his teammates in a behind-closed-doors friendly match against Wrexham.

Ronaldo is seemingly dead set on pursuing a 20th consecutive season in the Champions League, which he won’t be able to fulfill at United after they finished sixth in the Premier League last term.

The team flopped despite the veteran’s best efforts, and the owners disposed of two managers before appointing Ten Hag this summer.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo hasn’t revealed any plans or his next move concerning the destination that he’s headed should his Manchester United contract be canceled.

Cristiano Ronaldo would not fit our philosophy – Bayern Munich chief

Bayern Munich chief Oliver Kahn admits Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo cannot fit into the German club system.

Ronaldo has been linked with Bayern as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, now of Barcelona.

Kahn told BILD: “We discussed Cristiano’s situation internally.

“I consider him one of the best footballers in history. We came to the conclusion that, despite our admiration for Cristiano, he would not fit our philosophy at the moment.”

Kahn’s comments came in the same day as Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerez branded links with Ronaldo as “an invention”.

Bundesliga: Bayern Munich turn down C. Ronaldo’s bid

The Portuguese was offered to the LaLiga giants despite his history with their bitter rivals Real Madrid.

Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United after just signing last season for the English club side.

The five times Ballon d’Or winner is yet to return to training and pre-season games for the Red Devils.

But the 37-year-old’s exit strategy has become increasingly desperate

Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has offered him to top European clubs but has been unable to find a buyer for the striker.

The player was rejected by Atletico Madrid because they cannot afford to fund the transfer because of their financial situation, while Real Madrid have no intention of re-signing him.

Spanish radio station Cope has outlined how Mendes even sensationally offered his client to Barcelona this summer but received a negative response.

That Ronaldo would rather play for the Catalan club next season rather than United speaks volumes of his intentions to leave.

Atletico Madrid remains a favourable option for the forward despite being the fierce rivals of former club Real Madrid. The 37-year-old has grown frustrated at United after shouldering much of the responsibility last season.

Dutch giants Ajax have signed Calvin Bassey from Rangers for a fee of 23 million euros (23.5 million dollars) that could rise to 26.5 million euros with add-ons.

The 22-year-old Nigeria defender is likely to be the replacement for Lisandro Martinez.

Martinez is close to sealing a move to Manchester United to be reunited with his former manager Erik ten Hag.

Bassey has signed a five-year-deal at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

The Eredivisie champions confirmed on Wednesday he has already joined his new team-mates in Austria at their pre-season training camp.

Though born in Italy, Bassey is a Nigeria international, and became a regular at Rangers last season.

He starred in their run to the 2021/2022 Europa League final, dispatching the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Braga and RB Leipzig along the way.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men ultimately lost in Seville to Eintracht Frankfurt on penalty kicks.

But Bassey impressed on the night and had been subject of interest from several clubs across Europe during the transfer window.

He made 65 appearances in all for Rangers after signing from Leicester City in 2020, winning the Scottish Premiership in 2020/2021 and the Scottish Cup last season.

Rangers moved to replace Bassey on Tuesday when they signed centre-back Ben Davies from Liverpool.

However, Record in Portugal now states that Ronaldo has turned down the move.

The attacker has indicated his desire to leave Manchester United, but he wants to remain in a top European league.

For their part, United have indicated they are not willing to part with Ronaldo this off-season.

Good luck on going to the wrong side of Manchester – Solskjaer writes Haaland

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has revealed former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been in touch since he signed for Manchester City.

The pair worked together at Molde and Solskjaer tried to sign Haaland before he left RB Salzburg for Borussia Dortmund.

“When I signed with City he congratulated me and wrote to me ‘Good luck on going to the wrong side of Manchester’. We talk sometimes. As you know, he had a huge impact on my career when I was at Molde. He’s a good guy,” he told the Manchester Evening News.

“Three years ago City didn’t want me because they had [Sergio] Aguero up front so then there was no choice about coming to Man City.

“Basically, my feeling was I felt more going to the other place than coming here to England. I could have come here a lot of times in my career but I felt the other place and I think it was a really good choice.

“I have made perfect choices ever since I went to Molde, then Salzburg and Dortmund. I’m not complaining about that.”

  • Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp speaks on new signing, Darwin Nunez

Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp speaks on new signing, Darwin Nunez

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has said that new signing, Darwin Nunez showed positive signs after making his debut for Liverpool in a pre-season game against Manchester United on Tuesday.

Manchester United defeated Liverpool by 4-0 in a pre-season game in Bangkok to begin, Ten Hag’s journey as Manchester United’s coach.

Jadon Sancho, Fred, Anthony Martial and Facundo Pellistri all scored for the Red Devils as they coasted to victory in Thailand.

Liverpool were already three goals down when Nunez came off the bench.

The Uruguay striker almost pulled one back in the 87th minute, but blazed his effort over the bar from 10 yards.

When asked about Nunez after the match, Klopp said: “He is a number nine and he can play on the wing as well. We will see where he will play.

“But what you could see is the boys were already searching for him.

“It was his third session (since arriving for pre-season training) and I think after the third sprint his lungs were nearly ready to explode.

“We nearly killed him with these balls but he offered the runs and the boys wanted to pass the ball, that is for sure one of his strengths. He was dangerous, all these kinds of things.

“So Darwin, we will see. I think his profile is a proper number nine so that’s helpful with speed and aggression and using his body, all these kinds of things.”
