Serie A: Real reason i joined Juventus from Man Utd – Paul Pogba

The France international sealed a move back to Juventus on Monday after spending 6 years at Old Trafford.

The 29-year-old failed to raise any silverware in five of his six seasons with Manchester United.

Pogba will now begin his second stint with the Serie A giants, making the move from Old Trafford for the second time in his career.

At the age of 19, Pogba opted to leave United for Juve, only to return four years later in a club-record deal worth £89million.

And his return to Old Trafford got off to a decent start, as he won the EFL Cup and Europa League in his first campaign under Jose Mourinho.

But those trophies in 2017 would be his only ones back in a United shirt. Pogba endured a difficult relationship with Mourinho and success still eluded him under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The France midfielder, however, played a pivotal role in his country’s World Cup-winning campaign in Russia in 2018.

Pogba is now back at Juventus, where he won the league title in each of his four seasons with the Italian side.

And having finally completed his move, signing a lucrative four-year contract, he told supporters that he is desperate to be in the mix for major silverware once again.

In a video posted on social media, he said: “As you can see, I’m back and I’m very happy – I can’t wait to start with you and win trophies again. We’ll be there on the pitch in the stadium, all together.”

Juventus released a statement after Pogba’s return was confirmed. It read: “When we say goodbye after an intense adventure shared, there is always a glimmer of hope that we will see each other again, sooner or later.

The case will go to trial at the same court on January 24.

The former Manchester United player has been on leave from his post since November 2020 and faces a domestic violence trial in Manchester on 8 August.

In his place, Wales’ caretaker manager Robert Page masterminded his country’s playoff win over Ukraine to book their place at this year’s World Cup in Qatar – the first time Wales have qualified for the finals since 1958.

Giggs is accused of controlling and coercive behaviour against his former girlfriend Kate Greville between August 2017 and November 2020.

He is also accused of assaulting Ms Greville, causing her actual bodily harm, and of the common assault of her younger sister, Emma Greville, at his home in Worsley, Greater Manchester, on 1 November 2020.

At the time he was charged, the former footballer said he “looked forward to clearing my name”.

    Giggs

In a statement, Giggs said he resigned as it is “only right that the Wales FA, the coaching staff and the players prepare for the tournament with certainty, clarification and without speculation around the position of their head coach”.

He added: “Whilst I am confident in our judicial process, I had hoped that the case would have been heard earlier to enable me to resume my managerial responsibilities.

“Through nobody’s fault the case has been delayed.

“I do not want the country’s preparations for the World Cup to be affected, destabilised or jeopardised in any way by the continued interest around this case.”

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) acknowledged Giggs’ statement, adding: “The FAW places on record its gratitude to Ryan Giggs for his tenure as manager of the Cymru Men’s National Team and appreciates the decision he has taken, which is in the best interests of Welsh football.

Three lions of England and Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has taken a final decision on his future with the club after speaking with former teammate, Daley Blind about new manager, Erik ten Hag.

  • Chelsea ladies clinch third straight WSL title

Chelsea ladies clinch third straight WSL title

Chelsea ladies won their third successive Women’s Super League title in dramatic fashion, after defeating Manchester United 4-2 at the final on Sunday.

Sam Kerr scored two stunning volleys in the second half as Chelsea came from behind in a six-goal thriller.

The Blues, who win the league by a point over second-placed Arsenal, knew victory would give them the title.

Manchester United led 2-1 at half-time before Kerr’s double and a Guro Reiten strike at Kingsmeadow.

It is the first time in WSL history that a club has won the title in three successive seasons and Emma Hayes’ side can make it a domestic double with victory over Manchester City in next Sunday’s FA Cup final at Wembley.

The Blues, who won the league by a point over second-placed Arsenal, knew victory would give them the title.

Arsenal won 2-0 at West Ham but had to settle for finishing as runners-up.

Manchester United finish the season in fourth place and miss out on qualification for next year’s Champions League – although Manchester City’s 4-0 win at Reading meant a United victory would not have been enough.

Fans were on their feet at full-time and sang “Champions of England, we know who we are” on a joyous day which concludes one of the most thrilling WSL seasons since its introduction.

It promised to be a dramatic day at Kingsmeadow and that is exactly how it turned out.

Chelsea fans poured into the ground with flags and banners. They were in carnival voice before kick-off.

But Manchester United’s rapid start threatened to ruin that and there were ripples of tension throughout the crowd when Martha Thomas’ header put the visitors in front.

Erin Cuthbert’s powerful equalizer quickly lifted the mood again, while news came through of Manchester City breaking the deadlock at Reading which came as a double blow to the travelling United fans.

“That’s why we’re champions”, sang the Chelsea supporters in response but United were keen to spoil the party and England international Ella Toone’s deflected strike once again put them in front.

But Chelsea was not giving up the title that easily. They scored two goals in five minutes in the second half – the first a sensational volley from Kerr on the rebound.

Reiten put Chelsea in the lead for the first time when she drilled it into the bottom corner following a sublime through-ball from substitute Ji So-yun, playing in her last WSL game for the Blues.

Chelsea fans were already celebrating – despite title rivals Arsenal taking a second-half lead over West Ham on the other side of London – and Kerr stole the show with a sensational volley from 30 yards out which dipped over goalkeeper Mary Earps to make it 4-2.

Ji came close to capping off a hugely successful Blues career with a goal when her powerful shot was blocked late on, while home fans serenaded Pernille Harder as she walked around the pitch after being substituted.

The fans chanted “Chelsea, champions” for the remaining minutes and left Kingsmeadow – and London – in blue.

Chelsea have dominated English women’s football in recent seasons with Hayes having now clocked up six WSL titles during her time in charge.

The Blues boss, who won Fifa coach of the year in January, led the team to their first WSL trophy in 2015 and this was Chelsea’s fifth success in six years.

Rivals Arsenal finishes the season without a trophy for the third year in a row.

Hayes, who celebrated with her players after Kerr’s stunning second goal, must now prepare for the FA Cup final where they meet Manchester City in a domestic cup final for the first time.

But first, Hayes will celebrate this latest victory with her family, while it provides the perfect send-off for departing trio Ji, Drew Spence and Jonna Andersson – who have all played their role in another Chelsea title-winning campaign.

  • C. Ronaldo to get paycut at Manchester United next season

    C. Ronaldo to get paycut at Manchester United next season

Manchester United’s failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League will see some of their players’ wages cut by 25% the club website says.

Manchester United suffered a massive 4-0 loss to Brighton at the community stadium Saturday evening. That loss condemned Manchester United out of top four.

There will be financial consequences for yet another disappointing campaign, because of the way the Old Trafford club structures their player contracts.

The cut in wages is designed to protect United from the drop in revenue that results from not qualifying for Europe’s top club competition.

Manchester United would have made more money had they qualified for the UEFA Champions League, it remains to be seen if they will make Europa or conference league.
