Man Utd, Dortmund find peace agreement over Sancho talks

Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund have agreed to resume talks for Jadon Sancho in a more respectful manner.

The Bleacher Report says Dortmund have come to an agreement with United over negotiations for Sancho.

The two clubs have agreed to adopt a ‘respectful manner’ in talks after months of speculation over the 20-year-old’s future.

The report goes on to state that United were aggrieved by the level of detail being leaked to the public during initial stages of discussions.

While no deal for Sancho has been agreed as of yet, it is understood that the Premier League club could be reaching a more feasible stage of negotiations.

    Harry Maguire accepts England axe

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has accepted being dropped by England coach Gareth Southgate.

Maguire was selected for next month’s Uefa Nations League games against Iceland and Denmark but was later cut from the squad after his guilty verdict in a Greek court.

The Manchester United defender was convicted of repeated bodily harm, attempted bribery, violence against public employees and insult after arrest on Mykonos but has launched an appeal.

Regarding Southgate’s decision to drop him, he said: “I understand, obviously I am disappointed, I love playing for my country and I am physically good and mentally strong. Mentally I feel I can get over this, I am a strong lad. I feel more for the girls who were on the minibus and my little sister who are suffering most from this.

“It has been a tough time, but the hardest thing is speaking about it. It makes me angry and I feel myself working up a bit when I speak about the events and what happened.”

Lawyers for Harry Maguire appeal Greek island brawl convictions

Lawyers for Manchester United captain Harry Maguire have appealed against Greek court convictions on multiple charges following a brawl on the island of Mykonos last week, according to sources.

Two of the sources close to the process told Reuters that the appeal was filed on Wednesday morning.

They added that the case would be retried within the next two years by a court on the nearby island of Syros.

The 27-year-old England and Manchester United defender was found guilty of repeated bodily harm, attempted bribery, violence against public employees and insult.

This was after his arrest in a brawl in which two police officers were assaulted.

He was handed a suspended prison sentence of 21 months and 10 days.

Following the verdict, Maguire, who was not present at the trial, said in a statement: “I remain strong and confident regarding our innocence in this matter —- if anything myself, family and friends are the victims.”

Maguire’s brother Joe and friend Christopher Sharman were also found guilty of offences related to the incident and received suspended prison sentences.

    They denied any wrongdoing.

England coach Gareth Southgate withdrew Maguire from his squad for next month’s UEFA Nations League matches against Iceland and Denmark.

Ioannis Iakovos Paradisis, the lawyer who represented the police officers on Tuesday, confirmed an appeal had been filed on behalf of all three men.

He said that since the case would be heard again, the defendants would have the opportunity to appear in court this time and provide explanations.

“Even if they believe that they are innocent, they could have said they are sorry,” Paradisis said.

  • Man Utd captain Maguire to avoid jail time

It is highly unlikely Manchester United captain Harry Maguire will serve jail-time in Greece, according to Mykonos lawyer.

Maguire spent two nights in police custody after a fight broke out on the Greek island of Mykonos.

The 28-year-old has denied allegations of assault, disobedience and bribery during the incident, in which a police officer was allegedly assaulted.

According to Zannis Panayotakopoulos, a lawyer in Mykonos, via Sky Sports, the Englishman will not be found guilty of any serious offences.

“Bribes are very serious crimes in Greece,” said Zannis.

“But I believe that it has become a misdemeanour. The highest sentence can be five years imprisonment and a fine.

“But most of these crimes have big and heavy fines and definitely not prison time. In Greece, in our legal system, we have second chances.”

  • Sevilla edge Manchester United to reach Europa League final

Sevilla edge Manchester United to reach Europa League final

Manchester United were made to pay for their profligacy in front of goal as Sevilla enjoyed another special night in the Europa League by coming from behind to reach Friday’s final with a 2-1 win in Cologne.

Bruno Fernandes’s early penalty was cancelled out by Suso’s strike for Sevilla in a fiercely contested first half.

But United made and wasted almost all the big chances after the break as Bono produced a string of stunning saves until substitute Luuk De Jong turned home Jesus Navas cross 12 minutes from time.

United had already secured their place in the Champions League next season by finishing third in the Premier League, but their three-year wait for a trophy continues and a third semi-final defeat of the season exposed the work that still lies ahead of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to restore the Red Devils to their former glories.

Sevilla have now won 25 of their last 26 Europa League knockout ties and will believe they are destined to win the competition for a sixth time when they face Inter Milan or Shakhtar Donetsk in the final after riding their luck.

Julen Lopetegui’s men are now unbeaten in a club-record 20 games but were unsettled by the pace and movement of United’s front four early as Marcus Rashford was wiped out by Diego Carlos after his initial effort was saved by Bono.

Fernandes has ensured United’s early-season woes from the spot are long forgotten as the Portuguese converted his eighth penalty for the club and the 22nd the Red Devils have been awarded in a 13-month long campaign.

Fred then fired wide with just Bono to beat and United were made to regret not making more of their bright start.

Ever Banega ran the game as Sevilla knocked United out of the Champions League two years ago and the Argentine began to take a hold once more as Sevilla grew back into the game and levelled with a fine team goal on 19 minutes.

French champions PSG are interested in signing Manchester United’s Odion Ighalo as an option to replace Edinson Cavani, according to Foot Mercato.

The Parisians are said to have met with the Nigerian forward’s representatives with the hope of bringing him to the French capital to provide competition for new-signing Mauro Icardi.

Ighalo temporarily joined Manchester United from Shanghai Shenhua on a short-term deal in January but the loan has been extended until January 2021. He has scored five goals so far for the Red Devils across all competitions.

  • Lukaku, Sanchez will want revenge, Berbatov warns Man Utd

Lukaku, Sanchez will want revenge, Berbatov warns Man Utd

Manchester United title winner Dimitar Berbatov believes Inter Milan pair Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez will be gunning for revenge in the Europa League.

The two teams are on track to reach the final next week.

Berbatov wrote for Betfair: “Lukaku is a concern for me, he’s scored 23 goals for Inter this season which is a great achievement.

“I always said I liked him as a player, that if he got chances he would score goals.

“He’s very quick, and very strong, and his goal on Monday was spectacular. He’s the main danger for whoever they play against.

“Inter also have Alexis Sanchez and Ashley Young, who will know United very well.”If they play United in the final, these players will want revenge, to show United that they were wrong to let them go.

“Lukaku would love the chance to bang in some goals against the team that let him go. Lukaku took a lot of criticism in Manchester, and he was right to leave.

“Look at him now, he has been fantastic for Inter.”

  • Sancho makes final decision on Man Utd move

Sancho makes final decision on Man Utd move

In-demand winger Jadon Sancho says he is happy at Borussia Dortmund and is enjoying helping some of the younger players develop at the Bundesliga club.

Sancho has been linked with a move to a host of top clubs including Manchester United, but Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc says the England international is going nowhere.

The 20-year-old left with his team for a pre-season training camp in Switzerland this week and on Wednesday played the first 45 minutes of Dortmund’s 6-0 victory over Austrian side SCR Altach.

“I love playing with this lot. It’s a special bunch. We’ve got some special young players coming up,” said Sancho, who scored 17 league goals and set up another 16 last season

“I’m really happy to share the pitch with them and guide them.

“I joined when I was 17, some of the lads are the same age. I’ve been there and done that. I can guide them in what’s good and what isn’t. I can hopefully motivate them as well.”

  • Man Utd in late bid to overtake Chelsea for Havertz

Man Utd in late bid to overtake Chelsea for Havertz

Manchester United are considering a late move to trump Chelsea for Bayer Leverkusen ace Kai Havertzm.

The Manchester Evening News says United could hijack Chelsea’s transfer bid to sign Havertz if they cannot get a deal done for Jadon Sancho.

Havertz is widely expected to join Frank Lampard’s side this summer, although the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder had previously been linked with interest from Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool.

United have made Sancho their top target for this transfer window – although Borussia Dortmund have so far played hardball over their £100million-rated star man.

The Bundesliga club said on Monday that Sancho would be staying in Germany with the Red Devils having so far failed to meet their asking price.

And while United have not given up hope of signing Sancho, if they continue to be frustrated they could turn instead to Havertz.

  • Solskjaer responds to Jadon Sancho transfer talk

Solskjaer responds to Jadon Sancho transfer talk

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused to talk about rumoured transfer target Jadon Sancho after the Red Devils advanced to the Europa League semi-finals.

United booked their spot in the final four of Europe’s secondary club competition after edging Danish opponents Copenhagen 1-0 in extra time on Monday.

But attention turned to Borussia Dortmund star Sancho post-match amid ongoing speculation over the England international’s future.

Asked about Sancho, Solskjaer replied: “I can’t comment on other team’s players, I can’t do that. You know that. I never do.”

On the match itself in Cologne, Solskjaer said: “I am delighted that we’re through. I think we deserved to win tonight. It could have been one of those nights that you ended up with a penalty shootout. They made it hard for us.

“It’s a good team we played against, well organised. They had a gameplan – we knew they were going to be hard to break down. We knew we would get chances.”
