Man Utd give Solskjaer £50m for January transfer

Manchester United have given £50million to their new manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to sign two centre-backs when the transfer windows opens in January.

Solskjaer was appointed on Wednesday as Manchester United’s caretaker manager until the end of the season following Jose Mourinho’s sack.

Mourinho’s reign at Old Trafford ended with a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool which left United 19 points behind Jurgen Klopp’s side and 11 points off fourth-placed, Chelsea on the Premier League table.

According to The Daily Mirror, the Red Devils have made signing a new centre-back as one of their top priorities in January.

Meanwhile, Napoli confirmed yesterday that Mourinho made £95million bid for centre-back, Kalidou Koulibaly before he was sacked by Manchester United.

Solskjaer will hope to lead United to victory when they tackle Cardiff City this weekend in the Premier League.

    Ole Solskjaer arrives Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrived at Carrington on Thursday morning ahead of his first training session as caretaker manager of Manchester United.

Solskjaer landed in England on Wednesday evening after being confirmed as manager until the end of the season, following the sacking of former boss Jose Mourinho.

The former striker, who spent 11 seasons at Old Trafford during his playing career, returns to the club after a spell in charge of Norwegian side Molde.

Solskjaer arrived at United’s training base in Carrington on Thursday to meet the squad and take his first training session as interim manager, Sky Sports report.

The 45-year-old is expected to face the media for the first time as United manager on Friday ahead of Saturday’s trip to Cardiff, another of his former clubs.

Solskjaer arrives at United with the club sixth in the Premier League – 19 points behind league leaders Liverpool and 11 points adrift of the Champions League places.

However, Solskjaer is looking forward to the challenge on offer at Old Trafford.

“Manchester United is in my heart and it’s brilliant to be coming back in this role,” said Solskjaer, who scored the winning goal in their Champions League final victory in 1999.

“I’m really looking forward to working with the very talented squad we have, the staff and everyone at the club.”

Solskjaer will run the first-team while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new full-time manager, with Mauricio Pochettino, Zinedine Zidane and Laurent Blanc all linked with the role.

Sky sources understand United paid £1.8m to loan Solskjaer from Molde until the end of the season and it will cost the Premier League club an additional £7.2m in order to make the arrangement permanent next summer.

  • Man Utd to fine Pogba over ‘disrespectful’ post on instagram minutes Mourinho’s sacking

Man Utd to fine Pogba over ‘disrespectful’ post on instagram minutes Mourinho’s sacking

Paul Pogba is set to be fined by Manchester United for posting a ‘disrespectful’ picture on social media in the wake of Jose Mourinho’s sacking.

The photo of a smirking Pogba appeared on the player’s Instagram account on Tuesday with the message ‘caption this’.

The post was deleted 10 minutes later but not before it was liked by more than 64,000 people and drew a response from Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville who wrote: ‘You can do one as well!’

According to Dailymail, United bosses were angered by the post which they believe was in bad taste and disrespectful by the club’s £89million record signing. Pogba, who earns £300,000 a week at Old Trafford, is expected to be fined for his actions.

The breakdown of the Frenchman’s relationship with Mourinho has overshadowed much of the season at United.

Pogba was stripped of the vice-captaincy in September and left on the bench as an unused substitute for the manager’s last two league games.

  • Mourinho is so strong, will bounce back – Guardiola

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said Jose Mourinho will bounce back after he was sacked by Manchester United on Tuesday due to re-current bad results.

The Spaniard believes he and Mourinho will cross paths again in the near future.

Guardiola and Mourinho established a generation-defining rivalry during their time in opposition as coaches of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Speaking after his team’s penalty shoot-out win at Leicester City in the EFL Cup quarter-finals, Guardiola insisted there should be no doubts over Mourinho’s capacity to overcome this significant career setback.

“When that happens, always I am sad for the mangers all the time,” he told Sky Sports.

“We are alone, the managers – when the situation is not good we are alone.

“Always I am close to them. In football, that happens.

“You know what happens when you are sad. It is because the results are not good

“He doesn’t need me, he is so strong. Soon he is going to come back and we will play again.”

Guardiola and Mourinho clashed six times in Manchester derbies, with City winning three and United prevailing twice.

  • Man Utd reveals first player to sign after Mourinho’s sack

Manchester United executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward has reportedly identified Juventus winger, Douglas Costa as the first player the club will sign following the sacking of manager, Jose Mourinho.

Recall that Mourinho was on Tuesday sacked by United following the club’s poor run of form this season.

According to The Sun, Woodward wants Costa to join the Old Trafford club when the transfer window opens in January.

Costa is considering his future in Juventus, after falling down the pecking order in Max Allegri’s squad.

The Brazilian joined the Serie A champions from Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich in January.

The 28-year-old will hope to feature for Juventus when they tackle AS Roma on Saturday at home in the Serie A fixture.

  • ‘I have nothing to say’, Mourinho keeping quiet after Man Utd sacking

‘I have nothing to say’, Mourinho keeping quiet after Man Utd sacking

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has told reporters that he has nothing to say about his dismissal from Old Trafford, a day after he was booted from the hotseat at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese led the Red Devils to Europa League and domestic success during his tenure at the helm, but a poor run of form across the first half of the 2018-19 campaign has seen him pay the price.

Former United forward Ole Gunner Solskjaer has taken charge on an interim basis until the end of the season.

And, while much of the football world has been discussing United’s decision and what the future might hold for Mourinho, the departed manager was not entertaining questions as he appeared publicly for the first time since the news broke.

Trailed by members of the media as he left his house in London, Mourinho responded to queries by saying: “Let me walk. I have nothing to say.”

Originally arriving at Old Trafford in 2016 to replace Louis van Gaal, Mourinho endured a tough domestic campaign in the Premier League during his first season in charge, but brought the club silverware in both the Europa League and the League Cup.

He then took United to second in the Premier League during the 2017-18 campaign, ensuring Champions League football for the second season in a row at Old Trafford, and had only secured progression to the last 16 last month.

But his strained relationship with key signings at the club, namely Paul Pogba, saw rumours of a split between him and the squad, and a 3-1 loss to Liverpool on Sunday effectively ended any title ambitions for the third season in a row.

Despite his glittering career across the rest of Europe, the 55-year-old was unable to convert his time in his coveted position at the Red Devils into the success he attained elsewhere at the likes of Porto, Premier League rivals Chelsea and Serie A side Inter.

With United sixth in the table at the end of Mourinho’s tenure, Solskjaer’s reign will begin with a trip to the Norwegian’s former club Cardiff City on Saturday.

  • Man Utd shares rise after Mourinho’s exit

Man Utd shares rise after Mourinho’s exit

Frankfurt-listed shares in Manchester United climbed in early deals after manager Jose Mourinho left the English Premier League football club on Tuesday.

It was an indication that investors welcomed the move after the club’s dismal start to the season.

The stock rose 1.4 percent by 1030 GMT after extending gains following the news.

Manchester United’s primary listing in the U.S. had not yet started trading as at the time of this report.

Mourinho was sacked as Manchester United manager on Tuesday following a 3-1 defeat by arch-rivals and Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday.

It was a result which left the club in sixth place in the standings, 19 points off the top.

His departure marked the first time since his days as Uniao de Leiria coach in 2002 that Mourinho has left a club without winning a domestic league title.

He has spent two years at Old Trafford, which was perceived to be his dream job.

  • Ole Solskjaer in contention as Man Utd caretaker manager

Ole Solskjaer in contention as Man Utd caretaker manager

Former Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is being considered as caretaker manager at the club following the sacking of Jose Mourinho, BBC reports.

The Portuguese, 55, was dismissed after two and a half years in charge because of the team’s style, results and a poor record of developing young players.

Molde manager Solskjaer, 45, played for United between 1996 and 2007 and would fit the club’s philosophy.

United hope to appoint a caretaker before facing Cardiff on 22 December.

Former Norway striker Solskjaer has been in charge at Molde since 2015 in what is his second spell as manager, but their 2018 season has finished for the winter and does not re-start until March.

Solskjaer scored 126 goals in 366 appearances during his 11 years at Old Trafford and is best remembered for scoring the winner in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich in 1999.

He also won six Premier League titles and two FA Cups with United.

After his first spell as Molde manager, during which he won two Norwegian league titles and a cup, he returned to the Premier League as Cardiff City boss in 2014.

But he failed to save them from relegation from the top flight and left the club nine months after being appointed with the Bluebirds 17th in the Championship after three defeats in seven games.

It is understood the new caretaker boss will not be assistant manager Michael Carrick or academy boss Nicky Butt.

It is also unlikely to be former Manchester United defender Laurent Blanc, who has been linked with the vacant role.

Jose Mourinho has been sacked as Manchester United manager following Sunday’s defeat at Liverpool, ending a tenure that began in May 2016

The Portuguese, 55, won the League Cup and the Europa League at Old Trafford.

But United are sixth in the Premier League, 19 points behind leaders Liverpool, who beat them 3-1 on Sunday.

“A caretaker-manager will be appointed until the end of the season while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager,” United said in a statement.

“The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.”

  • Man Utd extend deal for French star till 2020

Manchester United have triggered the option of a year’s extension on the contract of France forward Anthony Martial.

The 23-year-old’s current deal would have expired in the summer but will now run to 2020.

United took a similar move with their Spain keeper David de Gea last month.

Martial’s representatives remain in discussions with United over a new separate deal beyond the contract that has been extended to 2020.

However Martial’s agent Philippe Lamboley told French TV station RMC he is “very pessimistic about a positive outcome of the discussions”.

“They have already sent us offers that do not meet our expectations, starting at bases very far from our wishes. We are far from an agreement for the time being,” he said.

United signed Martial from Monaco for an initial £36m in 2015, making him the world’s most expensive teenager in the sport.
