Fulham manager, Silva describes Everton’s Iwobi as a great talent

Fulham manager, Marco Silva has identified the talent of Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi ahead of match day 14 with Everton in the English premier League.

Silva said Alex Iwobi is  a  great talent and Everton’s key man ahead of the Premier League meeting between both clubs.

Fulham play host to Everton at the Craven Cottage on Saturday evening.

Iwobi was signed by Silva in 2019 during the Portuguese reign as Everton’s manager.

The Nigeria international initially struggled at the Merseyside failing to impress under managers, Carlo Ancelotti and Rafa Benitez.

But the arrival of Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard has seen him become an important player at the club.

Iwobi was adjudged Man of the Match in Everton’s 3-0 home win against Crystal Palace last weekend.

The 26-year-old provided two assists in the encounter.

“Iwobi is doing well and showing the quality I knew he had,” Silva was quoted as saying by West London Sport.

“He can play out wide or in the middle like he is now and is a dynamic player.

“It is clear to me that he is helping Everton a lot on and off the ball and the players around him are giving him the support to play with a bit more freedom as well.”

Iwobi has so far scored one goal and recorded five assists in 12 league appearances this season.

Fulham coach speaks after draw with Liverpool

Fulham boss Marco Silva was delighted with two-goal Aleksandar Mitrovic for today’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool.

Darwin Nunez helped Liverpool rescue a point with a goal and assist for Mohamed Salah.

Silva said, “We have to respect Liverpool but of course do our job and trust ourselves, we did a great first half, almost perfect the way we controlled and blocked. Second half we matched them every time.

“I know the quality Mitrovic has and I’m here to take the best from my players, Mitrovic is not just goals he puts on the constant pressure and the overall job he did is fantastic.”

  • Everton sack manager Marco Silva

Everton have sacked manager Marco Silva after 18 months, with the club in the Premier League relegation zone after their Merseyside derby humiliation.

Wednesday’s 5-2 defeat by Liverpool at Anfield was their ninth of the season and leaves them 18th in the Premier League after three successive losses.

Silva, who took charge in May 2018, won 24 and lost 24 of his 60 games.

Former striker Duncan Ferguson has been put in temporary charge and will manage the side against Chelsea on Saturday, BBC reports.

The club said they aim to appoint a new manager “as swiftly as possible”.

Everton are now searching for their fourth permanent boss since Roberto Martinez was sacked in May 2016.

Former Everton manager David Moyes has been considered as a potential interim successor, but the suggestion has sparked a largely negative reaction from supporters and it remains to be seen whether majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri and his boardroom colleagues ignore that and invite the 56-year-old Scot to return.

Moyes spent 11 years as Everton manager, and his return has been seen by fans as a retrograde step given his lack of success since leaving for Manchester United in 2013.

He was sacked at United and Real Socieded and was in charge of Sunderland when they were relegated from the Premier League before having a short spell at West Ham.

It has been suggested that if Moyes does return he could bring another Everton old boy, Tim Cahill, back as his assistant.

Portuguese Silva, 42, is the fifth managerial dismissal in the Premier League this season, after the departures of Javi Gracia – who had replaced Silva at Vicarage Road – and Quique Sanchez Flores from Watford, as well as Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino and Arsenal’s Unai Emery.

Former Hull City boss Silva succeeded Sam Allardyce at Goodison Park. He was brought in with the hope of his side playing more attractive football and backed with almost £90m of signings in the summer of 2018.

Everton finished eighth in Silva’s first campaign but, after spending more than £100m on players in the summer, they have won just four league games this season.

The Toffees face a tricky run of league fixtures over the next month when they face Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City, and also Leicester in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

After Martinez was dismissed in 2016, Ronald Koeman led Everton into the Europa League in his first season in charge, but was sacked after the club fell into the relegation zone following a poor start to his second campaign.

David Unsworth then lost five of eight games as interim boss, while Allardyce made way following an eighth-placed finish after fans frequently expressed their displeasure at the lack of attacking flair under the former England coach.

  • Former Watford boss Silva appointed as new Everton manager

Everton have appointed former Watford and Hull City boss Marco Silva as their new manager on a three-year deal.

The 40-year-old replaces Sam Allardyce, who was sacked at the end of the season after six months in charge.

Silva was sacked by Watford in January, with the Hornets blaming the decision on Everton’s approach for the Portuguese in November.

“I know what our fans expect. I want our fans to be proud when they see our team on the pitch,” Silva said.

“I’m excited and I’m really happy to take this big challenge for us as a club and for me as a manager.

“I want to express my thanks to Farhad [Moshiri, owner], to the chairman, to the board and to Marcel [Brands, director of football] for the confidence in my work.

“I know the huge history of Everton as a club and what the fans expect. I’m sure with everybody working together I will be ready for this challenge.”

Silva will be joined by long-term assistant manager Joao Pedro, plus goalkeeping coach Hugo Olivera, technical scout Antonis Lemonakis and fitness coach Pedro Conceicao.

Everton have confirmed their former striker Duncan Ferguson will continue as part of the coaching team.

Everton’s major shareholder Farhad Moshiri said: “His abilities are underpinned by a strong footballing philosophy, a fierce work ethic and his enthusiasm in embracing Everton, our values and our ambitions has hugely impressed me, as I hope it will each and every Evertonian.”

Former Sporting Lisbon and Olympiakos boss Silva spent four months at Hull in 2017 but left after they were relegated from the Premier League.

Two days after leaving Hull he joined Watford in May 2017 and took the team into the top four during his first few months in charge.

But he was dismissed after a dismal run that saw them win just one of his last 11 Premier League games.

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri had pursued Silva since the club sacked Ronald Koeman in November.

The Hornets fiercely resisted the Toffees’ approach and complained to the Premier League with a demand for compensation.

Everton finished 13th in the Premier League under Allardyce, but his style of play was unpopular with fans and the club said the decision to sack the former England boss was part of their “longer-term plan”.

Silva guided Estoril into the Portuguese top flight and they qualified for the Europa League the following season.

In one season at Sporting he won the Portuguese Cup and then the Greek League title in his year at Olympiakos, who he also managed in the Champions League.
