EPL: What Lampard told Mount during Sheffield match

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard pulled Mason Mount into line during victory over Sheffield United.

Lampard has deployed Mount in a deeper position back in midfield rather than as a wide attacker and reminded him of his responsibilities during the 4-1 rout over the Blades.

The Telegraph reports Lampard told Mount to ‘stop f***ing about’ and embrace his new role 30 minutes into the game.

The manager urged the 21-year-old to move the ball faster out to the flanks.

Lampard was keen for dangerous duo Reece James and Hakim Ziyech to receive the ball on the right wing.

Mount clearly took on board the instructions as his selfless display helped the West Londoners recover from going a goal down to run out convincing winners at Stamford Bridge.

World class Ziyech driving me forward – Mount

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is full of praise for Hakim Ziyech after the pair helped achieve victory over Sheffield United.

Chelsea have scored at least three goals in all four games Ziyech has started since injury delayed his admission to the side.

England midfielder Mason Mount gushed: “He’s a brilliant player. He knows what he can bring to the team with his quality left foot.

“The gaffer always speaks about having the competition to keep our standards high, and Hakim is a world-class player. We want players of that calibre coming in.

“To have 14 different scorers has been brilliant. We need that threat from set-pieces, which I don’t think we really had last season.

“This season we’ve definitely worked on that and it’s been working and to have that many scorers gives us a different dimension to our game and teams definitely fear us more.”

Mason Mount unhappy as Chelsea sign Havertz

Mason Mount is unsettled at Chelsea, it has been revealed.

BILD says Mount is unhappy with the arrival of Kai Havertz at Chelsea which is set to reduce his game time at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues completed a deal for the £89million-rated Bayer Leverkusen forward this week as part of Frank Lampard’s £230million transfer spending spree this summer.

Havertz’s arrival is likely to provide extra competition in attacking midfield for Mount, who played in every single Premier League game bar one for Lampard’s side in his debut season in the top-flight.

The 21-year-old is not pleased at Chelsea making a new mega-money signing for a player in his position.

The Englishman greeted new signing Thiago Silva on social media with a welcome tweet – but has yet to do the same with Havertz who could steal his midfield starting spot this season.

  • Coronavirus: Chelsea player defies self-isolation protocol

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount was spotted playing at a football park along with West Ham’s Declan Rice on Sunday, defying the club’s self-isolation protocols which came into place last week.

Chelsea’s first-team players and coaching staff are all in self-isolation after winger Callum Hudson-Odoi tested positive for the coronavirus last week.

It was reported that Mount and Rice, both England internationals, were playing a five-a-side game at the Trent Park Football centre near Barnet.

It is understood that Chelsea players have been reminded about the self-isolation protocols and are expected to resume training only when they are out of isolation on March 22 to March 23.

West Ham said last week that some club personnel are self-isolating after making direct contact with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta —- who also tested positive for the virus.

But the players were not self-isolating.

The English Premier League has been suspended until April 4 due to the coronavirus pandemic which has been responsible for an unprecedented shutdown of world sports.

Globally, the coronavirus has infected more than 170,000 people and over 6,500 have died.

The UK has nearly 1,400 cases with 35 deaths.
