UCL: Mbappe double sends PSG into quarter-finals

Kylian Mbappe capped a fine display with two goals as Paris St-Germain comfortably moved into the quarter-finals of the Champions League at the expense of Real Sociedad.

With the trip to San Sebastian billed as a potentially tricky second leg for PSG to negotiate, all eyes were on Mbappe, who has agreed to join Real Madrid this summer.

And the France forward turned in a superb performance to register his 27th and 28th goals of the campaign for Luis Enrique’s side.

The 25-year-old served an early warning to the hosts by accelerating past Hamari Traore to tee up a chance for Bradley Barcola, which was well saved by home goalkeeper Alex Remiro.

And six minutes later Mbappe opened his account for the evening, latching on to Ousmane Dembele’s pass and teasing home defender Igor Zubeldia, before whipping a right-foot effort into the bottom-right corner with such power and precision that it temporarily dislodged the netting.

Mbappe’s second of the night arrived shortly after the break as he raced clear down the left to collect Lee Kang-in’s pass and then emphatically dispatched a disguised low shot past Remiro at his near post.

It was no more than the Parisiens deserved with Imanol Alguacil’s Sociedad team far too passive in the opening stages and only sparking into life after they had fallen four goals behind on aggregate.

By then it was far too late with Mikel Merino’s driven effort in the closing minutes proving merely a consolation.

The draw for the last eight of the competition takes on Friday, 15 March.

    PSG midfielder admits Mbappe leaving

PSG midfielder Danilo Pereira has confirmed the players have been told Kylian Mbappe will leave at the end of the season.

Danilo was speaking after their 2-0 win with Nantes, where Mbappe started the game on the bench. It’s also claimed Mbappe has committed to a five-year deal with Real Madrid.

“It was a two-speed match,” Danilo reportedly in the mixed zone afterwards. “It was easy for Nantes to defend at the start, we weren’t in a good position, but then in the second half, we improved. The first goal gave the team peace of mind.”

He continued: “What is it like to play without Kylian? The dynamic changes, but we still have good players who can make the difference.

“We were surprised to see him on the bench because he plays a lot.

“What was the reaction to his decision to leave PSG at the end of the season? It’s not a decision that creates problems. It didn’t bother us…”

What PSG president told me after Mbappe meeting – Rothen

Former France midfielder and now pundit Jerome Rothen has spoken to PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi since it broke that Kylian Mbappe will leave at the end of the season.

Real Madrid target Mbappe informed Al-Khelaifi earlier this week his intention to leave this summer.

Rothen told RMC: “The PSG president told me that there will be disappointment, but he is a businessman, he had already gotten used to the idea of losing part of the investment made six years ago in Mbappé.

“He appreciated that Mbappé went to announce his decision face to face, there will be no sanctions. He is happy overall with how this investment went.”

Then he added: “We could have imagined it. The more time passed, the less likely it was that Mbappé would stay. He spent seven years at PSG, almost half of his career! He gave it his all.”

I can help Real Madrid with Mbappe transfer – Nadal

Tennis great Rafael Nadal is backing Real Madrid to move for PSG striker Kylian Mbappe.

It’s been claimed Mbappe has informed PSG his intention to leave this summer.

Real fan Nadal said on Cadena Cope: “If it were up to me, I would buy Kylian Mbappé for Real Madrid. Real has a super team, also capable of going beyond the chain of injuries that have affected them this year.

“With Mbappe they would be even better, if I can help the club with this transfer in any way, I will.

“This year I am following the team assiduously and it is a pleasure to see Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham playing.

“Choose between the two? I can’t, they are really very strong with their different mentalities. I think Vinicius is spectacular and Jude Bellingham incredible for what he has done since he arrived in Madrid, at just 20 years old.”

I’ll talk once PSG and Mbappe conclude – Luis Enrique

PSG coach Luis Enrique has decided not to discuss Kylian Mbappe’s departure.

Ahead of facing Nantes, Enrique was asked about claims Mbappe had informed PSG that he would leave at the end of the season, with Real Madrid his favoured destination.

But Enrique would only say today: “I can’t say anything.

“I cannot settle this information. Until the parties involved speak out, I do not intend to comment on anything. And the parties involved have not spoken.

“Mbappe has not publicly left nor anyone else from the club. When the parties speak, I will give you an opinion. The team is above all players.

“The club is above everything and all individualities. When the parties involved speak out, I, as coach, will give my opinion.”

    I deserve money I earn, I didn’t steal it – Mbappe

Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe has dismissed criticism of the money he earns.

Off contract in Jun, it’s suggested Real Madrid are offering Mbappe €30m-a-year to move to Spain. PSG, meanwhile, are claimed to be willing to pay the striker €100m-a-year to stay.

The truth is that I don’t know exactly…,” he responded when asked for his salary;. “At 12 years old, I also thought that there was too much money in football.

“I deserve the money I earn. I didn’t steal it from anyone. That’s how the world works.”

Mbappe’s lawyer Delphine Verheyden also said on Envoyé Spécial: “There is no guilt or shame. If we had been able to accept 10,000 million, we would have done it because it is the system that wants that.”

  • Real Madrid release official statement on Mbappe negotiations

Real Madrid release official statement on Mbappe negotiations

Real Madrid have released an official statement on claims of negotiations with PSG star Kylian Mbappe.

Off contract in June, Mbappe has been linked with a Bosman move to Real.

But amid reports of talks being well underway, Real have launched an official denial today.

    The full release read:

“In view of the information recently issued and published by various media outlets, which speculate on alleged negotiations between the player Kylian Mbappé and our club, Real Madrid CF wishes to declare that this information is categorically false and that no negotiations of this type took place with a player belonging to PSG.”

  • Ancelotti rules out Real Madrid move for Mbappe

Ancelotti rules out Real Madrid move for Mbappe

Real Madrid have ruled out signing Kylian Mbappe before the transfer window closes next week.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti said on Thursday as the Paris St Germain forward continues to be linked with the LaLiga club.

Ancelotti said that Real are unlikely to do any more transfer business in the current window which closes on Sept. 1.

When asked about France striker Mbappe, he told reporters: “No, I rule it out 100 percent.

“I think our squad is closed and our players are thinking about our season.”

The transfer window remains open in Saudi Arabia beyond Sept. 1, which means clubs from the Gulf nation could still poach Europe’s best players, but the Real boss was not concerned.

“Someone may change their mind, but I am not afraid of that,” he added ahead of Real’s LaLiga game at Celta Vigo on Friday.

Midfielder Luka Modric did not start Real Madrid’s first two league games, leading to speculation that the Croatian is unhappy with the situation, something which Ancelotti denied.

“Luka has already defined his future. He has no problem, he will contribute,” Ancelotti said.

“It’s a special situation for everybody, for him it’s strange not to play from the first minute but he will contribute as always.”

Ancelotti also said new signing Kepa Arrizabalaga, who joined on loan from Chelsea, will make his debut in goal in Real’s first home league game of the season.

Andriy Lunin was the keeper in the opening two wins of the campaign after Thibaut Courtois underwent surgery on a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee.

I’ll pick up Mbappe from the airport – Ex-Real Madrid GM

Former Real Madrid GM Jorge Valdano is eager to see the arrival of PSG star Kylian Mbappe.

Inside the final year of his PSG deal, Mbappe has been banished to train with the B squad this week as he refuses to trigger the 12-month option in his contract.

Valdano is keen to see Real Madrid rescue the striker from Paris this month.

Speaking from Luque, Paraguay, Valdano told Efe: “If people are still angry with him, don’t worry, I’ll pick him up at the airport.

“At the moment it is not a case. It is, for now, a non-case. I hope it becomes a case…”

Kylian Mbappe banished to PSG B team

French striker Kylian Mbappe will be training with Paris Saint-Germain’s ‘B’ squad in the coming week.

The 24-year-old is refusing to sign a new contract with PSG, with his present deal running out in a year.

The owners of PSG, the Qatari royal family, want Mbappe to either renew or move to a club that puts in an acceptable bid for his signature.

Per The Mail, Mbappe will be training with the reserves as part of his punishment.

The Qataris are hopeful that Mbappe will blink if he realizes he may spend the entire season on the sidelines.

PSG want a fee of at least £250 million, even though they are set to lose Mbappe for nothing in a year’s time.
