I ask for forgiveness in supporting APC – Dino Melaye

Former Kogi senator, Dino Melaye, has seek for forgiveness for previously backing the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Speaking on Politics Today on Friday, Melaye acknowledged his past alignment with the ruling party but said he had since turned a new leaf.

“Once I was blind, now I can see. I regret in totality.

“Just like you confess your sins daily in the Lord’s prayer, I ask for forgiveness.

“Anyone who has moved with the devil, anyone who has aligned with an unholy tendency, should regret it,” the former lawmaker said.

Melaye slammed the APC administration for worsening socio-economic conditions, saying hunger and poverty have reached dangerous levels across Nigeria.

“You don’t need a prophet to tell you what is happening in this country. It is visible even to the blind and audible to the deaf.

“The hunger in the land is shattered. People are dying of malnutrition in rural communities.

“Take a trip today to your village and just announce that you want to share two bags of rice.

“If you are not careful, there will be dead casualties from the struggle to get something,” he said.

Turning to 2027 politics, Melaye said the ADC was focused on building a stable party platform that would produce a credible presidential candidate to defeat Tinubu.

“Especially those of us in the ADC, we need to create a comfortable, stable platform.

“I believe that platform will produce a candidate that will unseat President Ahmed Bola Tinubu in 2027,” he said.

Melaye denies collecting N3bn from Atiku, Dangote for Kogi polls

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate, Dino Melaye has denied collecting the sum of N3 billion from the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and Aliko Dangote for the Kogi elections.

Melaye disclosed this at a dinner organised in his honour by members of his campaign organisation, in Abuja.

He described the claims as the handiwork of his detractors who wanted to derail his campaign.

According to Melaye, the speculation that he collected “N1 billion from Atiku and N2 billion from Dangote was fake news peddled by betrayers.

“One of the lessons is that the east now know more than ever before, that they cannot become governor alone. You will have to collaborate with other zones to become governor.

“The second lesson is also for those of us from the west. Next time, we should listen to the words of wisdom from our elders and not from commercialized characters who because of their individual and selfish interests created problems for us.

“Because at the end of the day, what our elders have been saying that this will be the worst (election) for us, is eventually what happened.”

  • Kogi guber: This election is a walkover for PDP – Dino Melaye

Kogi guber: This election is a walkover for PDP – Dino Melaye

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Dino Melaye has said the November 11 governorship poll in Kogi State will be a walkover for his party.

He stated this in Lokoja during the inauguration of the PDP Local Government election campaign committee of the 21 local government councils held at the party Secretariat on Thursday.

The former Kogi West Senator who berated the ruling party over alleged maladministration, non-payment of salaries, and insecurity, admonished electorates not to be intimidated, before, during and after the November Governorship election.

Melaye, while appreciating the Local Government Chairmen for their steadfastness towards securing victory for the party, posited that, when elected, Kogi State will be wearing a new look.

The PDP candidate said ” This election is a walkover for PDP because of maladministration, poverty, non-payment of salaries, gratuity, promotion are not being cash backed and many more. The people of Kogi State are not happy as they are looking for a messiah that will save them from captivity.

“Dino Melaye and Habiba are saying here we are, send us. I want to advise especially our Local Government Chairmen, you have all become evangelists and Imam to encourage our people to come out and vote. Our people are afraid because APC has sold fear in the minds of the people. I am telling you that as Dino Melaye, I am not afraid of Yahaya Bello or the APC.

” I am assuring us, let the people of Kogi State show that we are not cowards. As citizens of Kogi State, we are not a conquered territory. We will come out and vote, and campaign in all the nooks and crannies of the State including Agasa, the home town of Governor Bello.

“The PDP is a party with plans, well organized, who uses power for the interest of the People. Today, any Kogites that are still thinking of voting for the APC have what I call Arthritis of the brain. No sane logical human being will today vote for APC in Kogi State.

“Is it about our roads? In the last year, there has been no drop of water in Lokoja, the capital city of Kogi State. Is it about the dilapidated hospitals that have become mere consulting clinics? Is it about non-payment or percentage payment of salaries? Is it about insecurities of lives and properties?

“This is the first time in the history of our State that House of Assembly members and Commissioners have no vehicles. This is the first time in the history of our State that a permanent Secretary will be using Okada to move to office. This is the first time in the history of our State where workers were retrenched for frivolous reasons.

“This is the first time in the history of our State that 120 Professors were ceremoniously sacked from Kogi State University. They are qualified Professors who graduated from first-generation Universities in this Country. The screening at Kogi State University took them out of the system. By the grace of God, we are going to build a new Kogi State”

While appealing to electorates to kick against any form of ethnic agenda ahead of the November Governorship election, Melaye assured Kogites that his administration would reunite the people when elected.

Earlier in his remarks, the caretaker Chairman of PDP in Kogi State, Sen. Philip Aduda said the opposition party will put an end to bad governance in the state.

” We want activities to start immediately for the PDP to win convincingly in Kogi State. The party is fully on ground to deliver for Dino/Habiba in November. It is operation deliver your polling units and guide them from any obstacles.”

Speaking on behalf of the 21 Local Government Chairman, Olajide John from Kabba/Bunu assured his party faithful that no stone will be left unturned to guarantee victory for the PDP.

He maintained that the Chairmen will work in synergy and support the newly constituted Executive to deliver for the opposition party.

“It is all about the party, our destiny and setting Kogi State free from the hand of a tyrant. By the special Grace of God, Kogi State will be free. We must work together by having trust, and confidence in each other. With this, we will attain our desired victory” he stated.v

Atiku not afraid of investigation, he’ll come out clean – Melaye

A spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council, Dino Melaye has said its party presidential candidate for the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar is not afraid of investigation.

Melaye disclosed this while featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday.

He e said Atiku has always been available for investigation.

“Atiku Abubakar is a democrat; he’s a Nigerian. He has always been available for investigation. He has been investigated time and time again and come out very clean with clean status.

“So, you do not need the permission of Atiku to investigate him. We are not afraid of an investigation, because he’s the most investigated Nigerian and if you investigate him again he will come out clean,” he said.

Melaye stressed that Atiku’s counterpart in the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu should be investigated and prosecuted.

“He is the one that has been indicted already in a certified court indictment. He is the man that has faced the Code of Conduct before,” he said.

No responsible man will go back to his vomit, Melaye downgrades rumours of returning to APC

Former Senator and member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dino Melaye has shut down rumours of defecting to his former party, the ruling All Progressives Congress saying ‘no reasonable human being should go back to his vomit’.

The former lawmaker also accused the ruling party of sponsoring crisis in the PDP.

Senator Melaye made the remark on Thursday during his appearance on a monitored Channels Television programme.

“PDP is not in a dilemma. My party is solid. There is no fear, no agitation. The agitation is rather from the APC, who are part of those orchestrating what we are saying,” he said.

The PDP’s convention, scheduled to hold this weekend, is hanging in the balance due to court battles between erstwhile PDP Chairman, Uche Secondus and the party framework.

The Court of Appeal is set to give a verdict on whether the Convention will hold on Friday.

But Senator Melaye insisted that the verdict will go the way of the PDP and the Convention will hold as scheduled.

The Court of Appeal is set to give a verdict on whether the Convention will hold on Friday.

But Senator Melaye insisted that the verdict will go the way of the PDP and the Convention will hold as scheduled.

“I want to tell you that we are not perturbed.” he said. “There is calmness in the PDP, all our programs and preparation towards the convention is ongoing.”

Senator Melaye, who is a former member of the APC, said he has no plans of returning to the ruling party.

“No reasonable human being will go back to his vomit,” he said. “The APC is a disaster. For every human being, there is a journey of life. You will definitely pass through your Egypt to the land of Canaan. So I pass through Egypt, and that is APC; but I am in Canaan and I am comfortable and enjoying my stay.”

Melaye bares it all in explosive interview: ‘Nigerians are tired of this NGO called APC’

The former lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Dino Melaye on Friday said he is full of regret for supporting the candidacy of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that President Buhari contested under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) six years ago and defeated ex-President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the first time an opposition would floor a ruling party in Nigeria’s presidential election.

Melaye was among those that canvassed support for Buhari’s presidential ambition, having earlier dumped the PDP for the ruling APC.

Six years down the line, the former federal lawmaker and PDP chieftain asked God and Nigerians for forgiveness, noting that this current administration is the worst in the nation’s history. The controvercial lawmaker spoke in an interview on Channels Televison on Friday night.

“I apologise to God almighty who is the supreme controller of the universe and Nigerians for supporting Buhari.”

“The Buhari agenda is the greatest scam that came out of Africa. The Buhari presidency in 2015 is the greatest scam that came out of Africa.

“The subject Buhari is the greatest common that came out of Africa. Once I was blind, now I can see. How can one remain in a political party and support the presidency with what is happening today in Nigeria? I regret seriously supporting that because we were scammed,” he stated.

Senator Melaye also bemoaned what he described as corruption inherent in the ruling APC, noting that the current administration would inflate the mount of road contract.

Giving an instance, he wondered why the government would budget ₦2.1billion for the rehabilitation of one kilometre of road.

The PDP chieftain also spoke about the 2019 general elections where the main opposition fielded ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its candidate.

He said based on available statistics the PDP won the election, accusing the APC-led Federal Government of ousting former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen during the electioneering period.

When asked if Atiku would join the 2023 presidential race again, the ex-lawmaker said although he is qualified to aspire for the highest office in the land, he (Melaye) is not in a position to speak for the ex-Vice President.

“Atiku Abubakar is qualified in all ramifications to run for the Presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is not for me to ask him to run or not to run. Whether he should or not, my opinion is immaterial.

“When we get to the presidential primaries, I will vote for an aspirant I feel is qualified to run for the PDP. That is my personal opinion,” he added.

On the security challenges facing the country, the PDP chieftain faulted the APC’s handling of the security issue in the land.

He noted that the Nigerian Army that has excelled in international peacekeeping operations have been reduced to a boy scout under the APC’s government.

Melaye stated further: “Nigerians are fed up with this NGO called the APC. The insecurity in this country, we have never seen anything like this, I cannot fathom it.

“The same Nigerian Army that did well in Sudan, Liberia, that went to Congo Brazzaville, that went to Sierra Leone, that has been going for United Nations’ assignments and flying in brighter colours is the same Army, Air Force, Navy that is behaving like a boy scout today all because of corruption, ineptitude.

“There is no governance in government. We have no President, the President is not available. It has never been this terrible.”

Photo: Melaye reacts to viral wedding invitation card with strange woman

Senator Dino Melaye (SDM) has broken the silence on his wedding invitation card that recently surfaced online.

Dino, who is a divorcee, noted that his purported wedding to the lady identified as Susu is not true.

He added that he has never met the lady.

“419 taken too far. General Public, I don’t know this person talkless of marriage. Even for film, it can’t happen. SDM is not available,” he captioned the photo.

Dino Melaye also shared another picture and stated that it was photoshopped.

“See photoshop ooo. How I go marry when she never pay my dowry,” the Kogi politician posted.

Dino Melaye experienced the same social media-induced ‘wedding’ earlier this year with rumors of his engagement to Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo.

It was reported that Dino and Iyabo got engaged in late 2019 when she added the ‘Olori’ title to her Instagram profile page.

They were also rumoured to have concluded plans on their upcoming wedding spearheaded by Canada-based actress Lola Alao who brought them together.

However, Dino Melaye quashed the rumours. He noted that bloggers who came up with the engagement story needed a name to sell their story, which is why they came up with such a story.

He added that he can never have a secret engagement.

Dino also promised to release a ‘single’ about the rumors about him flying around.

    He wrote on Instagram;
“OHUN TO BA WU ELENU LO LE FI ENU SOO..EFI WON SILE..EJE KAN MA SO LOO…
Meaning people can decide to they whatever with their mouth

#EdoDecides2020: Melaye releases special song for Oshiomhole, APC after Obaseki’s victory [VIDEO]

Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye has released a video ridiculing the former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole over the loss of the just concluded Edo State governorship to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Recall that Governor Godwin Obaseki fell out with his predecessor, Oshiomhole who was instrumental to his ascending the governorship seat in 2016 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the then PDP candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

However, in the just concluded election, Oshiomhole’s annointed, Ize-Iyamu who was the APC candidate, lost to Obaseki of the PDP.

In a viral video, Melaye ridiculed Oshiomhole, by downgrading his nickname.

He said Oshiomhole should no longer be called ‘Oshio Baba’, but ‘Oshio Pikin’, henceforth.

Melaye recorded the video in Benin shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) affirmed and declared Obaseki as winner of the 2020 Edo governorship poll.

Dino Melaye is not a fool – Azu Ishiekwene

    Azu Ishiekwene

I’m not sure what his daytime job is, but if there was ever a politician permanently parked on social media that politician is Dino Daniel Melaye.

He was in the Senate and tried to contest as governor of Kogi State. Before that, he was a member of the House of Representatives; before that he was the kingpin of his school’s students’ union; and later, Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Council on Youths, under President Olusegun Obasanjo.

But for some reason, we love to think of and remember him as a clown. Not just any clown, but one with credentials. On one occasion when the police were looking for him and it was feared he had been kidnapped, he later emerged to tell a tale of how he had spent 11 hours on top of a tree.

At another time, he jumped out of a moving police car, almost to his death, and said he took the plunge to save his life because the police officers in the car had diverted away from where they were taking him and were also trying to drug him.

And yet again, during police stake out, which lasted for days, Melaye holed up inside his house and was only sussed out after the weary officers cut off electricity and water supply.

From time to time, he composes and releases music videos comprising improvised songs by the Dino Melaye one-man band, taunting real and imaginary enemies.

There’s hardly any controversial subject on which he has not produced a music video, often viewed and shared by thousands on social media, although the frequency has reduced since he failed reelection to the Senate and lost his National Assembly address.

The new Melaye video now trending was not made by him; it was made for him. Within two days of its release on Dele Momodu’s Ovation Instagram TV, the video which is about Melaye’s curated lifestyle of luxury, had clocked 15,000 views and was still climbing.

We have seen Melaye in many poises before. We have seen him preening over his collection of exotic cars and fast bikes; we have seen him showing off his collection of designer shoes. We have seen him striking runway postures in garish attires at the airport lounge in some faraway country.

And we have also seen Melaye in flip flops in his former life, struggling to fit into his undersize trousers while protesting the neglect of the Chibok Girls, the hike in the price of petrol or some perceived injustice at the Eagle Square, Abuja, as organiser, as he then was, of the Anti-corruption Network.

But nothing we have seen before, not the images of his former life of struggle or even those of his dramatic transition from grass to grace, compares with the luxurious splendour portrayed in the Ovation TV video. It’s luxury uber alles; one that kept Dele Momodu, himself no stranger to luxury tours, wowing like a fire truck throughout this particular tour.

Some people have been outraged that Ovation TV indulged Melaye by recording and publishing the video. It was the same reaction that greeted the Ovation interview with former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Allison-Madueke, who pleaded ill-health as excuse for evading extradition. When she miraculously recovered, she purchased a Dominican Island diplomatic passport, as permanent cure for both her ailment and her extradition.

I don’t know why they are outraged. Ovation has never pretended to be anything other than a celebrity playground. And it has done it very well.

Others have been outraged, as indeed I was at first, for a different reason. Where did Melaye who, other than being a politician, has never had a paid day job all his life get the kind of money for this lifestyle of curated luxury? One Chopard wristwatch alone, depending of the features, costs between $4,000 and $11,000.

And that’s at the lower end, with the top end, like Chopard 201 Carat costing up to $25million. In the Ovation video, we saw boxes full of different exotic brands from Chopard to Rolex and from Richard Mille to Patek Phillippe neatly tucked away in troves, with designer cuff-links in another box.

That was not all. There was Hayabusa, a Suzuki toy bike that could buy a street in any middle-brow neighbourhood in Lagos or Abuja; there was Harley Davidson CC 1500; then there were the hat-shaped chandeliers; the bronze-plaited grandfather clock; the bronze bust of Julius Caesar from Athens; the intricate marble carving purportedly from a 97-year-old Chinese woman; the crystal plates laid out on exquisite marble dining table; the Persian carpets; and the box of 18th century hand-crafted Haddad-brand knives from Lebanon.

And inside the house, somewhere that looked like a converted drive-in garage, sat a Rolls Royce in all its splendour overlooked by a photo gallery of icons from Martin Luther King to Mandela to Mahatma Ghandi, and from Mother Teresa to Bob Marley and Barack Obama, who must all be wondering how on earth their images became fair game in this treasure hunt.

For those who endured the video to the end, Momodu asked Melaye the soft version of the Daily Trust reporter, Eyo Charles’s question to Fani Kayode. He didn’t ask him who “bankrolled” this luxurious lifestyle, of course. Instead, Momodu said there were suggestions from viewers as he was streaming the tour that this must be money was from taxpayers, meaning that Melaye may have stolen the money while in office as senator.

It’s hard to blame anyone who thinks that video was Hushdino 2.0. The grandeur of the opulence, its audacity and sheer grossness in a country where the majority don’t know where the next meal is coming from, not to mention the air of vainglory with which Melaye conducted the tour, can make you mad. And in a time like this?

But something from Adebayo Faleti’s book, Won ro pe were ni (They thought she was mad), gives me a feeling that Melaye is not a fool. He knows what he’s doing and just like many of the stunts he pulled in the past, that luxury tour may just have been another stunt to show the world – that is, those who can still afford luxury items – his showroom. The poor can eat their heart out.

Anyone sharing the video, like I did angrily, may just have been unintended victims of Melaye’s well managed stunt. The guy is in business and social media is his accessory. No one with his mountain of transgressions against this government and his frosty relationship with the security services would keep a bunch of skeletons in his cupboard and still invite the press to stream it live.

And you only need to think twice to realise that for a politician, it’s improbable to live, work and play – with family, friends and all sorts of company coming and going – in a place like that. Except of course, it’s what I suspect it is: a showroom! Whether the wares are original or what they call s’agbe l’oju yoyo (all that glitters…) in my part of town, is another matter.

How he stocked it? Only he can tell. My best guess is that there are luxury item dealers in Europe, US and Asia happy to flog imitations or defective originals well below cost price. In a COVID-19 year, it’s a tough market.

There are also curators, who are desperate for partners in parts of the world with a growing population of avaricious elite, and who would be very pleased to work with the Dino Melayes. It’s up to the regulatory authorities, especially the tax office, to plug any gaps and ensure that the treasury is not shortchanged.

After falling out with the ruling party, losing an attempt to be his party’s flag-bearer in the governorship race, and then, losing his seat in the Senate, Melaye may have finally found a daytime job: selling a lifestyle of imaginary or curated luxury.

Kogi West: Melaye loses final bid to return as 9th Assembly senator

It is end of the road for Senator Dino Melaye as the Appeal Court in Abuja on Tuesday dismissed his appeal against Senator Smart Adeyemi.

The court upheld the victory of Adeyemi as winner of the Kogi West Senatorial District election held last year.

The Electoral Tribunal had thrown out Melaye’s suit, but he went to the Appeal Court to challenge Adeyemi’s victory and lost.

The three-man panel of the court unanimously resolved all seven issues, identified for determination, against Melaye.

The court upheld the judgment delivered on June 10, 2020 by the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, which affirmed the declaration of Adeyemi as winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
