    A certain distraught bride, Loretta Adesuwa Sawyer made headlines weeks back when she slammed Maryam Elisha of Rikato by Me, for giving her wedding reception dress to actress Mercy Aigbe to use for her 40th birthday photo-shoot.

    In the midst of the controversy, Mercy Aigbe felt the heat and was slammed on social media over being involved in the scandal.

    Recall that Maryam in a post shared on Instagram, apologized to the aggrieved bride online, adding that the bride had refused to pick her calls.

     

    Mercy in a recent interview reacted to the controversy, adding that her lawyers will henceforth handle the case.

    The last has not been heard about the controversial red dress Mercy Aigbe wore for her 40th birthday photo-shoot. The beautiful actress has taken to her Instagram page to address the issue, adding that she sincerely sympathize with the said bride. Aigbe noted that she never knew the dress belonged to someone else, let alone a bride.

     

    According to her: “I have followed events as they unfold following a particular dress I wore for a photoshoot. First, I must say that I sincerely sympathise with the bride as this situation is painful, unfortunate and regrettably avoidable.

     

     

    “I hired and paid Seun for the photo-shoot as a stylist and got four dresses for the shoot. Seun and I were unaware that one of the dresses was meant for someone else.

     

    “I am embarrassed that the designer was not professional enough in handling events leading to this moment. It is also painful that a bride is made to go through what the bride has been made to go through. I have reached out to both the stylist and designer (whom I have never met nor hired directly) to express my displeasure.

     

    “I have also instructed my lawyer to look into this and see how best to approach this from a legal point of view without festering an already open wound. Thanks.”

     

    Recall that Mercy Aigbe was slammed by Nigerians on social media after a certain bride lamented on Instagram that a designer ‘Rikato by me’, gave her wedding dress to Mercy Aigbe for her birthday photo- shoot.

    Following countless accusations from the owner of the now-famous popular dress Mercy Aigbe wore for her 40th birthday photo shoot,the actress has blamed the designer for not handling the issue professionally.

    The beautiful actress said the designer, ‘Rikaoto by me’ needs to clear the air, compensate the original owner of the dress and also compensate her.

    She made these statetments as a guest on TVC’s Entertainment Splash.

    She said:”I was wondering when people came online and were saying all sorts and I am like people are so opinionated and judgmental. I did not meet the designer, nor did I talk to her. People were saying I must have paid a huge amount of money to spoil someone else’s big day.

    “The thing is people already have opinions about celebrities so if anything happens, they just go on and attack you without hearing your own part of the story .I will like to sympathize with the bride because the situation is really sad. No bride should go through what she went through.

    “I will like to say sorry to the bride because she didn’t have to go through the pain. I really don’t want to talk about the issue because my lawyers are handling it, but I feel the designer put me in a very embarrassing situation .I was not happy about it when I saw it online.

    “I am so disappointed in her because I feel she did not handle the situation professionally. It’s all her fault and she needs to come out and clear the air, compensate the bride and also compensate me, because I am her client”.

    Mercy Aigbe red dress controversy: Stylist apologizes over involving actress

    Following online condemnations over a red dress worn by Mercy Aigbe for her 40th birthday photo-shoot on Monday, with the angry bride claiming ownership of the stylish dress, Mercy Aigbe’s stylist has tendered an apology.

     

    In a post shared on his Instagram page, Styled by Seun noted that the actress had nothing to do with the situation, claiming that he wasn’t told the dress was custom-made for someone else.

     

    He wrote: “I would like to apologize to my Client regarding the ongoing ” RED DRESS SAGA ” involving my client “MERCY AIGBE” who contracted me to style her for her 40th birthday photoshoot .

     

    I picked up (4) four dresses on behalf of my client (Mercy Aigbe) from the Fashion Designer ” RIKAOTO BY ME” on 28th December,2017 for my client’s photoshoot of which the “Red Dress” was one.

    However, I was in no way informed it was a custom-made dress for RIKAOTO’s BRIDE.

     

    This has put a dent in my client’s image for which I am truly sorry for as I handled the transaction on her behalf.

    I would like to clearly state that my client Mercy Aigbe wasn’t aware the dress was for anyone prior to when the news broke.

     

    My heartfelt apologies to the affected bride as well; No bride should be without her dress on her big day. I wasn’t aware the Red Dress was hers and I am truly sorry for the disappointment she exprerienced”

    Contrary to what many believe that Mercy Aigbe and her estranged husband, Lanre Gentry don’t longer communicate, Gentry has stated that they communicate every day.

    The businessman even wished her a happy birthday when she recently celebrated her birthday.

     

    He wrote on Instagram: “Today, you are @40. Even though we are fighting I still say happy birthday to you because you are still my wife and my children mother as I use to call you ones again happy birthday to you Mercy Aigbe Gentry. Long life and God bless you”.

     

    When asked why he was absent at his wife’s birthday bash, he said: “The main reason I was not at her birthday party was that I was not in Nigeria on that day. I travelled to Dubai and I returned on Wednesday. Despite the fact that I was not in the country, I bought her a birthday cake and other gifts I would not want to mention because it is an issue between husband and wife. Mercy and I are not fighting. We talk every day. I know that in the birthday wish I sent to her via Instagram, I wrote that we are still fighting but what I actually meant was not a real fight but the normal lovers’ quarrel. I am a very peaceful person and I don’t like fighting, most times, I compare myself to water which has no enemy.

     

    “Mercy follows me on Instagram, so, I was surprised that the news went round that she is following me again. If she had ‘unfollowed’ me before, there was no way I would have noticed because I have a lot of followers on Instagram” he said in a chat with Punch.

    Lanre Gentry in a recent interview claimed that his estranged wife, Mercy is back and he is okay with that. Mercy Aigbe who has a court case against him has however debunked claims that she has reunited with Lanre Gentry.
