BREAKING: EFCC makes u-turn, cancels arrest warrant against Mercy Chinwo’s manager

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has revoked the arrest warrant for the Founder, Eeze Conceptz Limited, Mr Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, the manager of a popular Nigerian gospel artist, Mercy Chinwo.

TheNewsGuru reports that Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court granted a warrant of arrest brought by the anti-graft agency against Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, the manager of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.

The arrest warrant stemmed from a petition filed by Mercy Chinwo with the EFCC, where the singer accused her manager of withholding royalties from her digital platforms and events without proper disclosure.

Chinwo further alleged that Onyedikachukwu had diverted $345,000 for her, prompting her to seek legal redress.

In response, Onyedikachukwu, through his legal counsel, Maxwell Opara, noted that Mercy Chinwo’s allegations against the him were untrue and baseless

Opara said Chinwo allegedly reneged on the record label and management contract with her label, Eeze Conceptz Limited, and presented falsehood to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against his client.

The lawyer, who clarified that Onyedikachukwu was never Chinwo’s manager, said his client was her producer who, sometimes in 2017, scouted and discovered her singing talent, developed the talent as well as promoted and brought her to the limelight in the  gospel music industry.

He also said that the allegation that the embattled producer diverted the singer’s $345,000 U.S. dollars in royalties was false.

Embattled Mercy Chinwo’s producer opens up on issues with gospel singer

The Founder, Eeze Conceptz Limited, Mr Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, has told popular gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo, that her allegations against him were untrue and baseless.

Onyedikachukwu’s lawyer, Mr Maxwell Opara, stated this in a statement he signed and made available to newsmen on Saturday in Abuja.

“The members of public must take note; that the allegations made against our client by Mercy Chinwo and the EFCC before obtaining the arrest warrant order for the arrest of our client were false and unfounded.

“This is evident as contained in the processes presented by the EFCC before the Honorable Court prior to obtaining the said order, wherein the EFCC alleged our client was Mercy Chinwo’s manager which he is not and never was.

“Again, the allegation that our client diverted Mercy Chinwo’s funds is also totally false and that our client could not be reached, which both Mercy Chinwo, and the EFCC very well know how our client could be reached and apprehended in such events.”

“Consequently, we have commenced the procedure in line with the rules of the Honorable acourt to have the said order set aside or vacated.

“And we strongly believe that, once the facts and evidences are truthfully placed before the Honorable Court, the Honorable Court will do that which is right and just in the circumstance.

“Hence, we urge the members of the public to disregard every smear publication and campaign coordinated by Mercy Chinwo against our client.”

He alleged that Chinwo signed a Label and Artist Management Contract for a five-year term beginning from 2017 to 2022 with their client but reneged.

According to Okpara, the contract covers among  other things, ownership of the catalogue and splits of all royalties derived from the exploitation of music catalogue developed, financed and promoted  by the record label.

The lawyer said in the midst of the dispute, Onyedikachukwu was allegedly detained at the EFCC Ilorin office between April 16, 2024 and April 25, 2024.

He said during the period, the commission carried out extensive audit of Onyedikachukwu’s bank accounts and found no evidence of wrongdoings.

He said a fundamental rights enforcement suit was filed at the Federal High Court (FHC) in Lagos Division on July 17, 2024, against the anti-graft agency, Chinwo and others, to restrain them from further harassment, arrest and detention of their client.

“It therefore came as a rude shock for the same commission to claim that Mr Onyedikachukwu’s had not been located and procured an ex-parte warrant of arrest on him.

“These schemes are targeted to malign the Label and its Founder and they will be very firmly resisted within the ambit of the law,” he said.

Justice Alexander Owoeye of a FHC in Lagos had, on Thursday, issued an arrest warrant against Onyedikachukwu.

The order followed an ex-parte motion moved by EFCC’s lawyer, Bilikisu Buhari, over alleged diversion of the singer’s $345,000 in royalties from her digital platforms and events.

Justice Owoeye adjourned the matter until Jan. 24 for Onyedikachukwu’s arraignment.

Despite receiving $625,000, you weaponise law enforcement against me – Mercy Chinwo’s manager speaks amidst arrest order

Renowned Gospel music manager Ezekiel Onyedikachuckwu has broken his silence amid ongoing drama with popular gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo.

TheNewsGuru reports that Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court granted a warrant of arrest brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, the manager of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.

In a lengthy Instagram post on Friday, Onyedikachukwu revealed that the gospel singer used law enforcement and a religious organization against him, despite offering a 50/50 gross earning split.

He further alleged that Chinwo failed to fulfill her obligations under their agreement, including the delivery of a third album, and withheld funds intended for the label.

According to him, despite the breaches, he proposed reconciliation and transparency through an independent audit, which he claims Chinwo avoided.

He also recounted how anti-graft agency illegally detained him for nine days far from Lagos, where their business took place. He further questioned the singer on her rationale for bullying him, rather than using  multidoor resolution process he suggested to her.

Thanking the public for their prayers and love, he wrote: “625,000 – that is how much you have received from eeZee concept till date. But you would prefer to insulate that part so as to keep deceiving people and weeping sentiments on how you signed a bad contract or had been treated badly. Same deal, you desperately pursued me for years and had to get third parties to impress on EeZee conceptz to sign you.

“Despite offering a 50/50 gross earnings ratio.. you are still trying to weaponize law enforcement and religious organizations, all in a bid to take over a catalogue you did not spend one Naira on. You’ve received over 625,000 to date, still, this situation persists. While claiming and singing it’s all for Jesus, your actions paint a different picture. You started as my backup singer in the studio and on stage. Unlike some music talent producers and label executives, it is not something I stumbled into through marriage or association.

“It’s disheartening to see lies being spread and efforts to weaponize law enforcement and religious affiliations against me. I invested my blood, sweat and hard-earned money into you. I housed you for months before securing two-bedroom apartments for you and your band leader. You breached our contract by failing to deliver a third album and withholding funds meant for the label from content and events. When this happened, i didn’t attack you. Instead, i reached out, proposing a reconciliation meeting and even suggesting an independent audit for transparency. Last year, i was illegally detained by EFCC for nine days, far from Lagos, where our business took place. Under duress, 274,000 was extorted. Yet, I still haven’t resorted to dragging you publicly. As a law-abiding citizen, I chose to follow the legal processes outlined in the contract you signed with Eszee conceptz.

“If your hands are clean, why avoid the multidoor resolution process in our agreement? Why manipulate institutions to bully me? You deny the contract when it speaks of your obligations and our benefits, but quote it when it benefits you. Discrediting the same documents from which you have hugely benefited. Kindly post your bank statements and songs recorded 3 years before you were signed and 3 years after you got signed

“You’re now attempting to claim ownership of a catalogue I fully funded, a body of work you never contributed financially to. For years, you’ve received both quarterly royalties and immediate remittance from the 50/50 agreement, but this greed and betrayal that persists are beyond comprehension. Let me remind you: I founded that label that built your platform, put food on your table, and gave you opportunities beyond your dreams. Through God’s grace, I did this, and no one can erase the role the Eezee concept played in building your influence. I will continue to act lawfully, trusting the legal system and God to defend my peace and reputation. As proverbs 17:13 says, ” Who ever repays good with evil, evil will never depart from their house.” I appreciate the outpouring of prayers, support, and love. May truth and justice prevail.”

TNG reports that a few years after winning the Nigerian Idol music contest, Chinwo signed with EeZee Global Records, where she released several hit songs and videos.

However, in 2022, the artist quietly parted ways with the label without making any official announcement, which led to many speculations about an unresolved rift between her and the label.

Court orders arrest of Mercy Chinwo’s manager

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday granted a warrant of arrest against Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, the manager of  gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.

Justice Alexander Owoeye granted the order following a motion exparte brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seeking arrest of the manager.

When the case was called on Thursday, Mrs Bilikisu Buhari, announced appearance for the EFCC.

She then informed the court of an application brought by EFCC pursuant to Section 35(1) (c) of the 1999 Constitution and Section 35, 36, 37, 38 and 39 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.

The counsel consequently moved the application seeking an order to issue a warrant of arrest against the manager.

She said that the warrant would be to compel the manager’s appearance in court to answer to criminal offences he allegedly committed.

Buhari submitted that if the commission would not be able to arrest the manager, it would bring public summons to declare him wanted.

The court granted the application, and adjourned the case until Jan. 24, for arraignment of the manager.

In an affidavit in support of the application, EFCC averred that it received a petition from Chinwo against the manager.

The affidavit was deposed to by Mr Michael Idoko, an investigator with the commission.

It averred that the gospel singer alleged that the manager was receiving royalty on all her digital platforms and events  without disclosure.

According to the EFCC,  the gospel singer claimed that the manager diverted about 345,000 dollars without remitting her share.

It said  that  efforts to arrest the manager failed,  necessitating the application for a warrant of arrest. The court adjourned the case until Jan. 24 for arraignment of the manager.

Paternity allegations: Gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo, husband drag defamers to court

An Abuja Magistrate Court sitting in Wuse Zone 6, has issued Criminal Summons on five persons, Okoronkwo Ejike, Kingsley Ibeh, DJ Spoiltkid, Terrence Ekot, and Samuel Agozie, for alleged defamation of  Gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.

The summons is signed by the Registrar of the court, Emmanuel Iyanna.

They are to appear before the court on April 23 for alleging that popular Gospel Singer Nathaniel Bassey fathered Mercy’s son.

This followed a Direct Criminal Complaint  filed  by Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa,  husband of Mercy, against the five individuals for Criminal Defamation through his lawyers led by Pelumi Olajengbesi Esq.

Uzochikwa said the alleged acts of Criminal Defamation was carried out through deliberate circulation of injurious falsehood, cyberbullying and cyberstalking.

The defendants recently alleged that popular Gospel Singer Nathaniel Bassey fathered the son of Chinwo, an allegation that has gone viral on the  social media space.

They made the allegations on their social media accounts when Mercy and her husband posted pictures of their son and themselves on different social media platforms on March 29.

According to them, the Uzochikwas’ son has a vivid semblance of Bassey, insinuating he could possibly be the real father of the child.

Ejike’s post read: “This Mercy Chinwo’s child she was hiding after giving birth, but the truth is that this baby looks exactly like singer Nathaniel Bassey.

“Nothing anybody wants to reason with me oh. This child is Nathaniel Bassey’s Baby. Maybe a secret away match occurred; otherwise, how can we make empirical sense of this.”

Terrence Ekot post on the platform “X” reads: “Take a look at the stunning resemblance of Mercy Chinwo’s son and Nathaniel Bassey.

“Though the duo has been working together on several projects, what do you have to say?”

The posts have since caused buzz  on social media, with many calling out  Bassey on why he should be involved in such an appalling act .

Similarly, Bassey, who has done several  music collaboration with Chinwo,  also  petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, over the  allegation.

In a petition filed by his lawyers, Peter Abraham, Uche Matthew, Gbenga Agunloye, and Anthony Abia,  he asked the IGP to investigate and prosecute the  social media users who accused him of alleged paternity fraud.

The lawyers said the social media posts by the individuals amounted to complete assassination of Bassey’s character and therefore urged the police authorities to urgently treat the petition against them.

Many of you have illusion about love, that’s why we watch relationships and marriage go down everyday and
    has become a joke.

Everybody say I don’t like stress, I don’t want to work , u want soft life, baby gal life, and I laugh so hard yet they want marriage and love.

Listen to me marriage and relationship is work so much hard work and intensional effort. I see so many babies going into marriage and I laugh so hard.

Marriage is tough, and until you realize that how you feel for people is a lie you will put in effort to sustain what you have not what you feel.

    Feelings change everyday with circumstances.

Blessing CEO reveals why she is single, as she reacts to Mercy Chinwo’s wedding thanksgiving sermon

Love is how you CHOOSE to treat people not what you FEEL for people.

    (Intensional and conscious effort)

Until I find that man who shares the same school of thought with me, I am so sorry my lover I will remain single and productive instead of become an embarrassment again to the institution of marriage.

Marriage don’t trill me because I know so much that happens behind closed doors.

Marriage is one of the most beautiful thing God created but marrying wrong is the most bitter thing to happen to you.

I get crase but I get morals, standard and boundaries.

When will you get married still remains noise to me because the people who constantly ask these questions know nothing about marriage.

    Good night lovers❤️”
