Messi’s father in Saudi to discuss Al-Hilal move

Lionel Messi’s father Jorge is seemingly in Saudi Arabia to hold talks with Al-Hilal.

According to Tribalfootball Messi already has an ambassadorial deal with the Saudis as part of their attempts to win the 2030 World Cup hosting bid.

The Argentine World Cup winner plays for Paris Saint-Germain, and French reports had suggested that a renewal was possible.

However, Mundo Deportivo is now reporting that Messi’s father Jorge is in Riyadh discussing terms with Al-Hilal.

Any move would happen at the end of the season when Messi is a free agent.

The Saudi side are prepared to pay him £245 million-a-year to get him into the same league as Cristiano Ronaldo.

Lionel Messi receives $1m offer for Arabic bisht

A $1m offer has been made to Argentina captain Lionel Messi for the Arabic bisht he wore when lifting the World Cup.

Ahmed Al Barwani is a lawyer and a member of Oman’s parliament and made the proposal on social media.

He posted: “From the Sultanate of Oman I congratulate you for winning the World Cup Qatar 2022. The Arabic bisht, a symbol of chivalry and wisdom. I’m offering you a million dollars (£829,000) in return for that bisht. I was at the stadium watching that moment live when the Emir of Qatar gave Messi the bisht.

“This moment told the world that we are here, and this is our culture, please know it well. It will be displayed to commemorate that moment of pride, and to help us relive it, and to also remind us that we can (do anything). This tournament was a source of pride and has highlighted important facts about how we didn’t forget about Palestine and that Arabs are one and united.”

But Messi is unlikely to sell, he understands how massive this honor was to a foreigner and a person with no Arab cultural background. The more likely place where this Bisht will sit is the Leo Messi museum in his native town of Rosario.

I want Messi to return to Barca – Laporta

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has declared he wants to bring back Lionel Messi from Paris Saint-Germain.

Messi, 35, is off contract at PSG in June, though there’s claims he has informed the Parisians he wants to stay next season.

Laporta, meanwhile, said today: “I want him to return to Barca, I want that. But it is not something that we can expect. He has just won the World Cup and that has made ‘Culés’ very happy because he has fought for it.

“For us, he is the best player of all time. The club is in his heart and he will always be linked to Barca regardless of whether he returns as a player or not.

“He is now a PSG player. But we would very much like him to return to Barca, so we have to look at it.”

World Cup hero, Messi to stay with PSG for another year

Argentinian World Cup winner, Lionel Messi is planning to play another year for Paris Saint-Germain, French daily Le Parisien reported on Wednesday.

Messi moved to PSG from FC Barcelona in 2021. The Argentinian has repeatedly said he would decide on his future after the World Cup in Qatar.

Messi has reportedly been in talks with MLS franchise Inter Miami and repeatedly linked with a return to Barcelona.

Qatar-backed PSG however has the greatest financial resources.

Messi helped Argentina win their third world title in Qatar, where on Sunday they defeated defending champions France 4-2 on penalties after a 3-3 deadlock.

Lionel Messi speaks after iconic World Cup victory

Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi says he always believed he would win the World Cup for Argentina.

After a dramatic penalty shootout victory over France, the Argentina captain says he knew that God would reward him with the ultimate prize in Qatar.

“It’s impressive that I can finish like this,” Messi told reporters. “I knew that at some point God was going to give it to me and I don’t know why, but I felt it was going to be like this. Once again he made me very happy.”

Messi noted that the match with France was “very strange” given how the European side equalized twice, comparing it to the match against the Netherlands in the quarter-finals.

“We wanted it, but it finally came,” said Messi shortly after raising the World Cup to the sky. “We suffered a lot, but we did it. We can’t wait to be in Argentina to see how crazy it’s going to be.”

Despite accomplishing so much in his career, Messi recognized that being world champion is the greatest thing to happen in his career.

“There is nothing after this. What else can there be after winning the Copa America and the World Cup near the end of my career,” he added.

“But on the other hand, I love football, I enjoy what I do, I enjoy the national team. Everyone wants this trophy, it’s everyone’s childhood dream. I was lucky enough to have achieved everything in my career and now this is going home to enjoy it with you.”

Messi added that he isn’t retiring from the Argentine national team after winning the World Cup in Qatar.

“I am not retiring from the national team,” he said. “I want to continue playing for Argentina to honor the title of world champion. It is the title I was missing and here it is. It’s crazy. It’s been a long wait.”

Messi clears air on using Mexico jersey to mop the floor

Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, has cleared the air concerning the allegations from football fans, saying that he used mexico national team  jersey to mop the floor.

The Seven times Ballon d’or winner has once again reiterated that he never used any jersey to mop the floor.

Messi stated this after multiple world boxing champion, Canelo Alvarez, apologized to him after accusing him of using a Mexico jersey to clean the floor following Argentina’s World Cup win.

Alvarez acknowledged his mistake and offered apologies to the Paris Saint-Germain forward on Wednesday.

The Mexico boxer tweeted he got carried away by passion and love for his country and apologized to Messi and the people of Argentina.

He said, “These last few days I got carried away by the passion and love I feel for my country and I made comments that were out of place. “So I want to apologize to Messi and the people of Argentina.”

However, speaking on the development after Argentina’s World Cup 2-0 victory over Poland on Wednesday night, Messi assured that he does not have to apologize because he didn’t disrespect Mexico.

The former Barcelona captain said, “I saw that he spoke now, but I think it was a misunderstanding, those who know me know that I don’t disrespect anyone. I don’t have to apologize because I did not disrespect the people of Mexico or the shirt or anyone.”

  • Qatar 2022: We’re dead right now – Messi reacts after Saudi defeat

Qatar 2022: We’re dead right now – Messi reacts after Saudi defeat

Argentina captain Lionel Messi has reacted 2-1 humiliation by Saudi Arabia in the World Cup fixture in Qatar.

The first half was marked by a series of Argentina goals ruled out for offside. The calls were the correct ones by the refereeing and VAR teams, but they appeared to affect Argentina nonetheless.

“We had those disallowed goals, at that time we thought we would have a lot of chances and we made the mistake of speeding up and going route one, instead of moving the ball from side to side,” said PSG attacker Messi.

“We knew that they would play a high line and we got caught up in that a bit.

“Then we went 2-1 down and we became disorganised, playing desperately.”

An honest assessment, but one that should be worrying for Argentina and showed their inability to navigate difficult situations in what should have been, overall, a relatively simple game for them. There will be bigger tests to come and they will have to improve quickly if they are to live up to their tag as contenders.

Barcelona legend Messi also conceded that scoring so early may have not been the best thing for them. He also confessed that the squad took the result hard, but insists they remain united and ready to bounce back.

“The goal so early wasn’t good for us, it confused us. We knew that in the first game it could happen that we didn’t play as well as we can and we have been,” commented Messi.

“When the scoreline goes against you, it becomes even more difficult. The group is dead right now, because it’s a tough blow to take, because we were confident of getting off to a good start, of winning, and that calms you.

“But this group stands out for its unity, its strength and now is the time to be more united than ever and know we can go back to the start, to our way of playing to try to win.”

Despite the setback, Messi wanted to end on a positive, looking ahead to the coming games. Next up for the Albiceleste is Mexico on Saturday.

“Calmness [is my message for the fans]. We know it’s a tough blow, one that hurts,” said Messi.

“But we have to keep believing and we need the people to keep believing that this group won’t let them down.

“We’re going to go and try to win against Mexico.”

The disallowed goals undoubtedly affected Argentina, but Messi doesn’t want to make excuses. VAR got the calls right, even though many pointed to how tight they were.

“I saw some photos, they were very tight,” said Messi.

“I couldn’t tell from the images, but if they ruled them out then it’s because they were no doubt offside.

    “There’s no excuse.”

    I don’t think I’ll play much longer – Messi

Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi admits he’s coming to the end of his career.

The Barcelona great’s current PSG deal expires in June.

Ahead of leading Argentina at the World Cup, 35-year-old Messi spoke with former national teammate Ezequiel Lavezzi for Conmebol.

“I love soccer, I love playing it and I enjoy it, the only thing I’ve done all my life is play soccer and I’m sure that I will stay connected when I stop, although I don’t know what. I don’t think I’ll play much longer,” he said.

Asked about playing his final days with Rosario Central, Messi also said: “I don’t know, so many things happen… It was a dream I always had as a child, to be able to play in Argentine soccer.

“But today it depends on many things, I have my family, three children, I just had a very big change in my life that cost me and my whole family a lot. Today I got over it and we feel spectacular.”

Guardiola did a lot of harm to football – Messi

Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi feels Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has harmed the game.

The Argentine forward played some of his best football under the guidance of Guardiola at Barcelona in what is widely regarded as the best club side in history.

Speaking during an interview with Universo Valdano, he recalled his time at Barcelona with Guardiola.

“Guardiola did football a lot of harm because everything we did seemed very simple and everyone wanted to copy him,” Messi remarked.

“After that period I’ve met a lot of Guardiola-style teams and then you realise what we did.

“Pep has something special to prepare the games, to see them, to analyse them and to communicate.”
